Somersault Discussion

http://www.serebii.net/attackdex-dp/somersault.shtml

This is turning out to be my favorite attack in D/P but Im having a hard time wanting to use it. Most cases it's on fast pokemon who will sault into a new pokemon before the opponents attack has been recieved meaning the new pokemon you brought out will recieve the attack. This could be terrible if you predicted wrong.

However, if we use a slow pokemon, the opponents attack will hit first, then our somersaulter will flip out to a suitable counter who gets in without a hit. Then again, there are times where this isn't really good and you pay the cost by having a slower pokemon.

What do you guys think of this move and its usebility?

Like it's been said before, Scizor deals one of the most damaging Somersaults in the game (130 base attack + STAB) and it's low speed almost guarantees you to go last and switch to an appropriate counter. You can also break a sub before leaving the field and leave the opponent exposed for Scizor's replacement.

The most common use for somersault will be for when you predict your opponent will switch. You damage the incoming pokemon and you get to switch to an appropriate counter. If your opponent does not switch, you can switch to a counter.

Also, if you are faster than your opponent you should always use somersault instead of switching if you can. It has another advantage over baton pass, that you dont have to worry about passing an intimidate when you switch.

Have a nice day.

Somersault is nice on really fast Pokemon (Ambipom, Persian, etc.) if you have the room, simply because it's always better than switching if you know you're faster than your opponent. In addition, it makes prediction a lot easier, as you only have to predict switch v. noswitch as opposed to having to predict the exact Pokemon your opponent switched to.

130 is Scizor's Base Attack, not the Base Power of Somersault. After STAB, Somersault's Base Power is 105.
