item: Soul Dew / Life Orb
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid Nature
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Steel / Electric
[SET COMMENTS]
Latios is a fearsome offensive threat in the UU metagame primarily because of its already strong STAB moves being further bolstered by Soul Dew. Recover is important in this set, giving Latios longevity to directly pivot into the likes of Keldeo and Thundurus-T. It also allows Latios to outlast many of its checks, such as Tinkaton and Heatran. Surf can be used to threaten Excadrill and Heatran. Thunderbolt can be used as a midground play to reliably threaten Slowking without sacrificing too much momentum. Finally, Flip Turn lets Latios gain momentum on predicted switch-ins such as Slowking by pivoting to teammates like Lokix.
Latios can opt to use Life Orb, which sacrifices some longevity in exchange for more wallbreaking power. For example, Life Orb Thunderbolt cleanly 2HKOes Slowking, while Life Orb Surf cleanly 2HKOes even defensive Heatran and will just one-shot Tornadus-T if its Heavy-Duty Boots gets removed. Tera Steel is used on this set for defensive purposes, allowing Latios to take on Lokix and Ogerpon-C more easily. It also allows Latios to gain an immunity to Toxic, and in combination with Levitate, it lets Latios check Hydrapple and completely wall Clodsire. Tera Electric is an option when running Thunderbolt, boosting its power higher. It also allows Latios to better take on Tornadus-T and absorb Thunder Wave, easing its entrance opportunities.
Latios fits on offensive structures that can benefit from a strong wallbreaking presence. One good teammate is Lokix, as it is able to bring Latios safely against Skarmory and Cobalion. In return, Latios can use Flip Turn on a predicted Slowking or Tyranitar switch-in to bring in Lokix safely, so it can threaten either of them with huge damage from U-turn, especially with Choice Band. They also both easily overwhelm Tinkaton for one another, and Lokix is able to remove a potential Assault Vest from Tornadus-T. In general, pivots like Tornadus-T and Zarude are generally able to bring Latios safely into the battlefield. Zarude can also check Slowking and Excadrill for Latios, and Tornadus-T gives it an entrance point versus Rotom-W as well as removing Slowking's Heavy-Duty Boots, which helps Latios tremendously. Spikes setters like Chesnaught and Skarmory pair well with Latios, as the entry hazards they set help wear down Latios's checks, and they also appreciate its ability to check Heatran.
