Back again to post another RMT! This time I’m taking a massive shift from my previous para & stall phase towards Special Offense!
A rare epiphany occurred when I thought: “Hey, y’know how Special offense is hailed as the best offense in ADV?” “Since Specs was introduced, why not DPP?” & so begot this team I’m sharing:
https://pokepast.es/782e78bd4b2481b1
Starmie (Timid)
Choice Specs
252 Sp Atk/4 Sp Def/252 Spd
-Hydro Pump
-Rapid Spin
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
I was conflicted with either a Trick Starmie or an all out attacker, but I went with 3 attacks instead to act as an offense momentum machine.
The idea is to capitalize on Starmie’s blazing speed with acceptable Special to punch holes & divide the opposing team, LO is a relic in the past as weather + 4MSS hinder Starmie immensely. Rapid Spin can be used as a memento to clear Rocks off the battlefield.
Metagross (Adamant)
Custap Berry
248 Hp/60 Atk/20 Def/180 Sp Def
-Stealth Rocks
-Meteor Mash
-Explosion
-Earthquake
Between the 3 Psychic/Steels, Meta is the offensive explosion variant, Zong is Defensive, & Rachi is all around with some unpredicatibility.
The idea of Meta is to solve the Physical offense launched out in DPP, Meta has solid bulk enough that on many occasions can leave a sliver of HP enough to either Explode or set Rocks. The most important thing about Meta is flexibility since every turn weights in gold.
Zapdos (Bold)
Leftovers
248 Hp/228 Def/32 Spd
Ivs: 2 Atk/30 Def
-Discharge
-Heat Wave
-HP Ice
-Roost
An offense team needs a Gyara & Loom check in case if the defensive structure falters, I went with Bold as:
a) Gyara flinch aka “Unfortunate doesn’t begin to describe my series” is something I worry.
b) Rocks are annoying, on Azelf teams there’s double rocks in case Azelf goes down.
c) SubLoom is annoying
d) Acts as a soft Rachi check. (Not Superrachi tho)
Nonetheless, Zap does check plenty of threats as electric/flying is an awesome dual typing & goes well with Starmie as Zapmie. Discharge is needed to solve the 4MSS.
Suicune (Modest)
Leftovers
88 Hp/188 Sp Atk/232 Spd
Ivs: 30 Sp Atk
-Hydro Pump
-Hp Electric
-Ice Beam
-Calm Mind
The Blue Dog returns, while not as formidable as it was in ADV, terrorizes teams with Calm mind if underestimated.
Suicune is also Gyara check #2 with just enough speed to outpace Jolly Loom with an Ice Beam. Modest is much more customizable so Suicune can have enough bulk to take hits, which is hard since hazards + sand makes Suicune’s life hard. Calm Mind is useful at breaking Clef.
Latias (Timid)
Choice Scarf
60 Hp/52 Def/144 Sp Atk/252 Spd
-Draco Meteor
-Trick
-Thunder Wave
-Healing Wish
With both Zap & Cune checking Gyara, this helps lax Latias’s role enough to forgo Thunderbolt for Thunder Wave. Providing both a Trick option & Paralysis to slow down crucial Pokemon & to annoy Stall further.
Latias provides this team a Speed check & support with Healing wish, granting Suicune a 1 Up in late game scenarios.
Heatran (Mild)
Choice Specs
4 Atk/252 Sp atk/252 Spd
-Overheat
-Flamethrower
-Earth Power
-Explosion
With Heatran, I was conflicted with either giving it Hp Grass due to Swampert or Dragon Pulse for Kingdra, but decided to use Explosion as a final gambit to punch even more holes mid game.
I love the idea of double specs ever since I’ve tried out duo specs in DPP UU (With Molt & Sceptile), again to make Clef cry & preventing it from setting up too easily. Could also be used as a soft Rachi check.
Checks:
T Spikes: Does annoy Cune a bit, so make sure to be aggressive against T Spikes teams as Lati does provide Healing wish, which eliminates the poison late game.
Blissey: My team does capitalize on Clef’s lower defense compared to Bliss, though I do have explosion do I need to be careful not to get careless.
Latias: Mainly the Defensive set will give me some trouble, again be smart against Def Latias & boom only if you have the chance.
