Iron Treads @ Leftovers / Assault Vest
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 HP / 248 SpD / 8 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off / Volt Switch
- Stealth Rock / Ice Spinner
- Rapid Spin

[SET COMMENTS]
Iron Treads has a valuable role in the tier with its superb role compression, serving as a great check to the tier’s Electric-types, such as Raging Bolt and Tapu Koko, as well as providing utility by setting and removing entry hazards with Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, respectively. Rapid Spin is mandatory, allowing Iron Treads to remove hazards effectively, especially with its quad-resistance to Stealth Rocks and immunity to Toxic Spikes. Knock Off can be used to force progress on would-be switch-ins, such as Ting-Lu and Corviknight, as well as removing Heavy Duty Boots to force hazard chip on Pokemon like Zapdos and Alomomola. Alternatively, Volt Switch can be used instead as a useful pivoting option, allowing Iron Treads to escape bad match-ups, like Corviknight, Alomomola and Ferrothorn. Ice Spinner is an option, giving Iron Treads an option to threaten Flying- types that switch-in on Earthquake, such as Landorus-T, Gliscor, Dragonite and Zapdos. Ice Spinner also helps dissuade Ground types from switching in on Volt Switch, allowing its pivot sets more flexibility. Leftovers is usually the preferred item, giving Iron Treads valuable chip healing. Assault Vest however is an option on more offensive teams that appreciate Iron Treads' immediate hit-taking capabilities, though it is only recommended if it doesn't need to set Stealth Rock. Notably, the added Special Bulk turns Mega Diancie's Earth Power from a 2HKO to a 3HKO, and allows Iron Treads to comfortably tank a Focus Blast from Choice Scarf Tapu Lele. The given EV spread is to outspeed Timid Raging Bolt while maximising special bulk.

Specially Defensive Iron Treads fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to check threats, like Raging Bolt and Tapu Koko, as well as support the team with its utility. Due to its immunity to Electric moves, Water-types such as Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Alomomola and Samurott-Hisui all appreciate Iron Treads to take these hits for them. In return, they can threaten the Fire-types, like Cinderace and Heatran, that Iron Treads is wary of, as well as tanking the Water- type attacks, such as the common Scald and Surging Strikes, that Iron Treads is weak to. Alomomola in particular is a great partner; due to Iron Treads's lack of reliable recovery, it appreciates the Wish support it grants. Meanwhile, Samurott-Hisui can form a hazard-stacking core with Stealth Rocks Iron Treads. Iron Treads can also effectively remove hazards, supporting Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Kyurem lacking Heavy Duty Boots, while also blocking Electric- type moves from Pokemon like Zapdos and Raging Bolt for the former. In return, Tornadus-T can defensively switch-in on the Ground- type moves that scare out Iron Treads and also threatens the Grass- types that resist Iron Treads' STABs, like Ogerpon-Wellspring and Ferrothorn, with either Bleakwind Storm and Heat Wave respectively. Meanwhile, Kyurem can threaten the bulky ground types that Iron Treads fears, such as Ting-Lu and Great Tusk. Iron Treads often struggles with bulky Flying and Water- types, like Corviknight, Moltres and Slowbro, so Electric-types like Zapdos and Raging Bolt are great teammates, with Iron Treads supporting them with hazard removal and preventing opposing Raging Bolts from setting-up. Tapu Koko is a great teammate as it can threaten said Flying- and Water-types as well providing Electric Terrain, complementing Iron Treads's ability Quark Drive, allowing it to be even more sturdy. Iron Treads has to be wary around Fire-type moves, like Flamethrower and Magma Storm, so teammates that resist those moves, such as Moltres and Slowbro, are appreciated. Moltres can threaten the Steel-Flying types that plague Iron Treads, such as Corviknight and Celesteela, while Slowbro can tank the Fighting- and Water- moves that Iron Treads must avoid. In return, Iron Treads provides an Electric immunity for both. Ogerpon-Wellspring is in particular a good teammate, threatening the bulky Fire-, Ground- and Water-types of the tier that Iron Treads struggles with, such as Great Tusk, Ting-Lu, Slowbro, Moltres and Alomomola. In return, Iron Treads can remove the hazards that Ogerpon-Wellspring is vulnerable to, as well as tanking stray Bug- and Poison- moves that Ogerpon-Wellspring doesn't enjoy, such as the many U-turns of the tier and Galarian Slowking's Sludge Bombs. Iron Treads's removal also can allow Pokemon, such as Alomomola and Slowbro, to run items other than Heavy Duty Boots.

Knock Off can be used to force progress on would-be switch-ins, such as Ting-Lu and Corviknight, as well as removing Heavy Duty Boots to force hazard chip. Knock Off’s ability to remove Rocky Helmet and threaten Ghost types I mean kinda but you mainly just EQ the ghosts is especially important in making Rapid Spin more reliable. Alternatively, Volt Switch can be used instead as a useful pivoting option, allowing Iron Treads to escape bad match-ups, like Corviknight, Alomomola and Ferrothorn. Ice Spinner is an option, giving Iron Treads an option to threaten Flying- and Grass-types that switch-in on Earthquake, such as Landorus-T, Gliscor, Dragonite and Zapdos. Mention a Grass-type here if you mention it, or just delete the mention altogether since there aren't may grasses truly threatened by this, up to you Ice Spinner also helps dissuade Ground types from switching in on Volt Switch, allowing its pivot sets more flexibility. Leftovers is usually the preferred item, giving Iron Treads valuable chip healing. Assault Vest however allows it to tank Special attacks better, but is only recommended if the team doesn’t need Iron Treads to set Stealth Rock. Give more detail here. What does AV let you check better specifically? Also mention that AV is usually a tool for much more offensive teams. The given EV spread is to allow Timid Raging Bolt while maximising special bulk.

Specially Defensive Iron Treads fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to check threats like? as well as support the team with its utility. Alomomola in particular is a great partner; due to Iron Treads's lack of reliable recovery, it appreciates the healing Wish grants it. Meanwhile Samurott-Hisui can form a hazard-stacking core with Stealth Rocks Iron Treads. It Iron Treads more GP stuff but previous read like Hamurott was the one removing the hazards can also effectively remove hazards, supporting Pokemon like Specs Kyurem Lets do some more mentions here, Specs Kyurem is a highly specific mon and shouldn't be the primary. In return, Kyurem can threaten the bulky ground types that Iron Treads fears, such as Ting-Lu and Great Tusk. Iron Treads often struggles with bulky Flying and Water- types, like Zapdos, Tornadus-T, Slowbro, Corviknight and Moltres, so Electric-types like Zapdos and Raging Bolt are great teammates, with Iron Treads supporting them with hazard removal and preventing opposing Raging Bolts from setting-up. This is a lot of examples; try to stick to 3 or 4. In return, Iron Treads can remove the hazards that Ogerpon-Wellspring is vulnerable to, as well as tanking stray Bug- and Poison- moves that Ogerpon-Wellspring doesn't enjoy. From what? Iron Treads's removal also can allow Pokemon, such as Alomomola and Slowbro, to run items other than Heavy Duty Boots.
