SPL 7: UU Discussion Thread

Posting this cause I was bored, but the record the rankings within the 2-2 based on strength of schedule is:

Omfuga (opponent's records: 10-4)
Hikari (10-6)
dodmen (8-6)
tie between callo and xMarth (6-5) - can't break this cause they haven't played each other and the people they've won against have the same record

That being said I don't think its worth much to read into strength of schedule, as a win in SPL is a win in SPL, and I think any of the 2-2 guys could beat any of the guys playing UU in this SPL.

1. teal6
2. Kokoloko
3. Bugzinator
4. Omfuga
5. Hikari
6. dodmen
7. Calloflochie
7. xMarth
9. PttP
10. Disenchanted
10. Leftiez
10. Tesung
13. Dice
14. Mazar

The standard formula for strength of schedule is (2OR + OOR) / 3, where OR is the opponent's record and OOR is the opponent's opponent's record. So we might be able to break that tie based on the opponent's opponent's records... but honestly I think that's pretty unnecessary, since you're not going to have super accurate rankings with a maximum of four games anyhow. Your list looks right to me.

Great to see a lot of UU players being bought

Iirc it's been Christo Hogg Hairy Toenail and Ice Tea

hairy toenails are disgusting

(and play UU for the wolfpack. awoo)

(sry sacri ;_;)

rip legitimate reason to say grats Sacri'
And does this mean that fuga will realize his 3 month long dream of playing not UU in spl

UU players drafted : Hogg, Christo, Hairy Toenail, Icey Tea. I think most of them were expected, Ruiners and Falcons had trouble with UU and Omfuga doesnt want to play UU anymore which leaves the UU wolfapck's spot free.
The one i'm more curious about is Icey Tea's. I really didnt expect the Classiest to draft another UU player just because Lochie did well so far. I know for a fact that Icey Tea helped Lochie to build and stuff, but i'm pretty sure they didnt need to draft him to get this UU support. Classiest is currently the #1 team, but they still had extra money to spend, which might explain this draft. I guess if Ice Tea is now an actual player he might put more effort to help Lochie. Or I could just be wrong and he'll just play next week. Anyways, grats to every players who got drafted, I'm pretty sure the next weeks will be much more entertaining !

Icey teas role will mostly be support but he and lochie are good friends and I am sure lochie will preform much better just because now Tea will be in full support mode, whereas before it was more casual and friendly. However I think Tea will make his appearance later in the season as now the Classiest have a backup UU player that is heavily invested in the tier if lochie is unavailable. This is pretty huge considering when you look at other teams whose UUers let them down, in Lochies case it would probs be activity based not performance, they had to use a subpar replacement. For instance when Tesung was matched against dodmen, Tesung is a great player but had no real understanding of the UU meta and it showed in his game. Now the classiest have a great backup player which might workout really well for them in the coming weeks if lochie cannot play.

Haven't really followed SPL since I don't particularly find spectating tours enjoyable (I only really watched rozes, dodmen, and xMarth's games :toast:). Was hoping to see players/friends like YABO or Pak get picked up at mids, but with the pool of UU players this year I wasn't really surprised. Have to think they'll get picked up next season though :]

Regardless, hoping to see the ones that did get picked up: HT, Hogg, and Ice Tea (even if its just a support role), do well in the second half :]

Week 5 is up:

Calloflochie vs Hikari - Hikari has be very solid thus far both in terms of building and playing, so giving this to him. Wouldn't surprise me if lochie comes through though, esp now with the added support of Ice Tea.

kokoloko vs Hogg - kokoloko has been playing very well, showing almost no signs of rust throughout the weeks, even in the game which he lost. Hogg, on the other hand, is making his SPL debut, so this difference in experience could make the game. If hogg manages to gather his nerves, he could easily take it, since I know he's a good player and builder.

bugzinator vs Christo. - yet another SPL debut in Christo. Honestly not too sold on this, but gonna give it to bugzinator just because of experience and how consistent he's been. Could definitely go either way.

xMarth vs aim - After people doubting his ability in the initial weeks, xMarth has proven to be able to hold his own against the tiers top players despite the two losses. He also knows the tier like the back of his hand. aim is already a proven player, so no question on that, but I'm not sure how in touch he's been with the UU metagame. If anything, that's gonna be the killer for him. He's got the recently drafted Hairy Toenail for support if needed.

dodmen vs teal6 - can't decide on this one. Teal has been on fire in the first 4 weeks, even if he did get extremely lucky vs xMarth, but dodmen is always a solid pick. What I'm very interested in is the type of team that teal is going to bring now that Christo has been drafted. Iirc he loves playing offense, but he may surprise us.

Overall some really cool match ups this week featuring 2 debut players that got picked up mid season. Gonna think that aim is just a stand in since Omfuga doesn't want to play uu. Hopefully that role will be passed to Hairy Toenail in the future weeks since I'm looking forward to see him play.

Calloflochie vs Hikari - I think Hikari has the edge here, even if Callo did better so far Hikari is still more solid.

kokoloko vs Hogg - Hogg has much less SPL experience + koko did really well earlier. Hopefully Hogg will prove me wrong and take his first SPL game vs one of the top players of this tournament.

bugzinator vs Christo - I feel like Christo has enough motivation to take his first spl game straight up. He also has more edge about the tier and probably builds better. Could go either way, still.

xMarth vs aim - Don't see aim losing this one. He has a ridiculously huge amount of support in UU, thanks to players like hairy toenail, Omfuga and Pearl and hes just much more experimented than xMarth.

dodmen vs teal6 : Tough one as well, I can see teal taking his 5th win in a row but could easily go either way. Probably the best game this week.

Overall I think every single match up are really good and could go either way, can't wait to watch. Gl to Hogg and Christo in particular, you guys'd better show why are you there. :toast:

ORAS UU: Calloflochie vs Hikari- Hikari is probably the best out of the pool of UUers when it comes to preparation so its not hard to see him coming out on top here
ORAS UU: kokoloko vs Hogg- Hogg is a fantastic builder and battler so I cant see him losing this unless nerves get to him
ORAS UU: bugzinator vs Christo.- similar case to hogg, think christo is the better player though
ORAS UU: xMarth vs aim- aim hasnt really played much UU as of late from what i know, and marths proved to be one of the biggest threats in spl UU so im giving it to him
ORAS UU: dodmen vs teal6- gonna be a fun one but teal6 is gonna come out on top i feel

First week that im excited to see every game, glhf to all n_n

man teal brought the one thing that fucked dodmens team, nice to see sub cm chand get some use though oO

yeah NP Hoopa and Sub CM Chandelure are the biggest threats to that team. It's a bit safer against chand since mence outspeeds and kills but teal made some nice plays to weaken it. probably gonna retire the team cause zam is a big threat too lol (we agreed to play without), gg teal.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-uu-130343 Christo vs bugzinator replay
Fantastic game honestly. Both players brought really solid teams including the newest addition to this metagame : Alakazam. Both teams were fairly offensive, bugzi brought some stuff we dont see too often at the moment, doublade, Virizion and Mandibuzz. Christo's team was a classic bulky offense featuring escavalier. Looking at the match up, Bugzinator had 2 big threats to Christo's team : Doublade and Swampert-m, which can both put a ton of work once whimsi and swampert got crippled. Christo managed to keep the bluff as bugzi definitively didnt expect SD Bulky Knock off, which just allowed Croak to lure doublade and win the game.

The start of the game was pretty straightforward, Christo got an early scald burn vs Mandibuzz which helped to get rocks off, after that Bugzinator revealed an offensive special Virizion which got some good damages on whimsicott. Then Entei damaged Swampert heavily enough to make it unable to beat double which was the biggest threat for Christo's team.
After removing the second threat of Bugzi's team being Mega Swampert thanks to Esca + Aero, it looked like Doublade was just going to pull through, however, fearing Nasty Plot Punch Croak, Bugzi decided to sack Virizion and then going back to Doublade, expecting the classic SD Sucker punch set which could beat Entei. Croak was SD Knock off, which just beat doublade as Aero was able to kill to take the win. Really well played on both side, this game definitively came down to the wire and it was a pleasure to watch.
