Why isn't smogon paying for this stuff? SPL (and by extension Scrappie) drives a ton of people to visit the site. I mean I kinda get why moderators and shit don't get payed but the least Smogon can do is pay for services that are directly generating ad revenue

fully agree. there is no situation where a website which generates enough profit to provide a living wage to its owner, as well as some side hustle cash to some of its admins, should be asking its community (which assumedly are largely not employed full-time) to fund an integral component of its flagship tournament. seems really unfair for the burden to still be falling on the contributor who made the bot now it has proved to be a great addition to the website.
