a huge chunk of people i know are playing delta rune and marking what seems to be the most banal shit as spoilers. like yeah it makes sense that you'd spoiler important story or character moments but sometimes it's just like. gags and jokes that are completely disjoint from story context
i feel like the undertale (which turns ten years old this year. feel old) caused a shift in how the online space talks about spoilers, and the stuff that is considered spoilers changed from "important character and plot beats" to "literally anything", probably because of how much the game intertwines the two. like it's technically a spoiler that papyrus becomes your friend. but the vast majority of interactions with papyrus happen after that point and you interact with him more than anyone else. so talking about these interactions like they were spoilers gave the illusion that the existence of papyrus himself was the spoiler even though he shows up in like 30 minutes of play.
i don't know. like it's cool that people are (generally) considerate enough that you can jump into games completely blind but at the same time going in blind wasn't a huge deal until about a decade ago. so idk. net positive probably?
in general i feel we are in turmoil over being social creatures who are compelled to share information and this conflicts with the thrills of discovery that stories can give us. and honestly modern spoiler tagging gives us the best of both worlds since we can both share information and hide it from those who do not want to know. so overall: hell yeah.
im not playing delta rune btw. ive been too busy with monster train 2. the underlegion is very silly
thank you for reading my post :)
