Randbats Spotlight Tournament
Welcome to the eleventh bimonthly Spotlight Tour! This iteration will feature the recently elected Gen 6 Triples Challenge Cup format. This tournament is your chance to showcase your skills in Gen 6 Triples Challenge Cup in a single elimination best-of-3 series.
What is Gen 6 Triples Challenge Cup?
If you played Pokémon Black and White and/or Pokémon X and Y, there's a good chance you remember Triple Battles. As the name suggests, you'll have to juggle three pokémon on the field at the same time: the one in the middle can attack and be attacked by every position, while the pokémon on the left and right side can only target the center and the pokémon in front of them. To complicate things even further, there are exceptions such as moves that can target non-adjacent pokémon and others that have a spread effect on your opponent's entire team. Moreover, the elusive shift button offers you the opportunity to move your pokémon to the center to exploit a better position to attack and/or protect a more valuable teammate from being triple targeted.
Finally, it’s also Challenge Cup, where you’ll get no standard sets but randomized teams where the pokémon have any legal ability, moves, and item! Learn to place your pokémon correctly, use your moves wisely and become a master of Triple Battles!
Prizes
The winner of the Spotlight Tournament will receive the Room Prize Winner rank in the Random Battles room for a month and the possibility to pick a format for the next Randbats Spotlight poll!
How does the tour work?
It’s simple:
1. Contact your opponent on their Smogon wall and decide on a time to battle.
2. Battle each other in the format “[Gen 6] Triples Challenge Cup”. This format can be found under 'Randomized Format Spotlight', at the top of the third column. Alternatively, use /challenge [Gen 6] Triples Challenge Cup. You can also run the entire series and keep track of the results of each game with /challenge [Gen 6] Triples Challenge Cup@@@bestof=3
3. The first player to 2 wins advances to the next round.
Note that this tournament will end before the next Randbats Spotlight Ladder commences, i.e., before January 2025. This will determine the pace of the tournament.
Please note:
1. All scheduling attempts MUST be done publicly on Smogon Walls. No other proof of communication will count for act calls regarding scheduling attempts.
2. You MUST post replays of your wins.
