I love Quagsires. I love him so much that I make unpredictable Quagsires. Besides, who sees Quagsire in OU? :)
So, I built a team around him as a Choice Bander with Adamant. The team is leaning toward offensive but balanced. It also relies heavily on surprise attacks that are not expected, which is why it is based around the completely unexpected Quagsire. So without further ado:
Team at a Glance:
The Team:
First up...
Spooky the Gengar @Focus Sash
Mild
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
0 Def IVs
~ Icy Wind
~ Shadow Ball
~ Counter
~ Focus Blast
A great antilead. I chose a mild nature over Hasty because of the need of another Heatran counter. It also helps him against the odd T-tar lead. Taking out the enemy or crippling it is the priority; the SR or Spikes can be spun away by the trusty spinner afterward. If lucky, he can come back later to deal with Machamps, which are always problems (everyone hates fighting a Machamp, nee?).
Punchy the Lucario @Choice Scarf
Jolly, Inner Focus
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
~ Close Combat
~ ThunderPunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Crunch
Punchy, one of most essential members of SquishySmashers. He can revenge Gyarados, Dragonite, and a few other threats, all of whom pose greatly dangerous threats to the team, Gyarados in particular. Awesome coverage provides mindgames for the enemy, who does not figure out the CS Lucario until they’ve lost a valuable member. Inner Focus is there because no flinching is better than a relatively minor speed boost, as he is already locked into one move.
Crunchy the Tyranitar @Babiri Berry
Jolly
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
~Crunch
~Fire Punch
~Dragon Dance
~Rock Slide
Another one of the unexpected. The idea is to switch into something he can easily scare off, and then DD up. With luck, they’ll send in a Scizor/Lucario to deal with the menace and scare Crunchy off. Not this Crunchy though, as you can see. Once the problematic ones are out of the way, he can also sweep using his +1 boosts and provides a few nice resistances to the team, namely Fire and Normal.
Spikey the Sandslash @Leftovers
Impish
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
~Stealth Rock
~Rapid Spin
~Earthquake
~Knock Off
Who doesn’t like Knock Off? It may save your butt against some sweeper and even walls that lack a good recovery. Spikey is the team’s resident physical wall and spinner/SRer. Stealth Rock is not imperative on this team, as punching holes in the enemy’s team is always a nice thing to do. But as always, SR is always useful, and so it is on Spikey. Earthquake is merely there to chip away at weakened enemies lacking a recovery and hit a couple switchins. I am a bit unsure about the EV’s, as his EQ barely scratches walls and merely scrapes others.
Choppy the Scyther @Leftovers
Technician
Adamant
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
~ Aerial Ace
~ U-turn
~ Quick Attack
~ Pursuit
The bug providing the team with a much needed EQ immunity is Scyther. I modified Scyther a bit to be a bit more bulky, as Sandstorm will be active and chipping at his HP, and he’s too valuable to lose after a just a couple hits. His moveset is self-explanatory; he is no sweeper, but an annoyer, picking off the weak and retreating to safety. I forewent a CB set for flexibility and perhaps a surprise to the opponent.
Squishy the Quagsire @Choice Band
Water Absorb
Adamant
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
~Earthquake
~Aqua Tail
~Ice Punch
~Stone Edge
The team’s mascot finally revealed. He can deal with Gyarados, Dragonite, Aerodactyl, and other OU that may give this team problems. He is chosen of Swampert for his Water Absorb, not to mention being a more complete counter to Gyarados due to a Waterfall immunity. After Gyarados DDs, he switches into an expected Waterfall, replenishes his HP, then Stone Edges it for a kill after SR if lucky. If not, Gyarados will most likely be picked off by sandstorm. They will most likely not switch out due to a combination of bewilderment, greed, and hope. However, he is walled easily by Suicune as long as he doesn’t get a critical hit which seems to never happen. Skarmory is even better at walling, but must beware of an EQ if he is in KO range of Aqua Tail. Ice Punch is for Dragonites who attempt to switch into EQ and for a Celebi, as minor the damage may be. As said before, when he appears, he must make a dent quickly or risk being at a major disadvantage.
Team Weaknesses:
I’ve noticed that this team has a hard time breaking through walls such as Suicune and Skarmory. Skarmory is dealt with if Lucario pummels it with CC or Thunder punch. Suicune is tricky, as Lucario cannot do enough damage. If it is a CC Suicune without Roar, Crunchy may be able to set up in time. I need to find a Suicune counter, and am thinking of Starmie replacing Sandslash as a rapid spinner. However, I would lose a great deal of physical bulk. Most other pokemon can be dealt with once their moveset has been established. As always, I may need to sacrifice Scyther to take out a Breloom using Gengar.
Help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.
