:moltres: but offensive

Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Hurricane
- Scorching Sands
- Roost

I asked Zeph if I could post this set and it was approved, but let me know if it's bad form to post a different set of a Pokemon already posted. I just think offensive Moltres is a much more effective option in the metagame than defensive right now. It still checks Jumbao, Rillaboom, and Equilibra but actually has firepower behind its attacks. If Jumbao loses its Life Orb, then offensive Moltres is more than effective at checking Jumbao.

252 SpA Moltres Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jumbao: 278-330 (85.5 - 101.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Moltres Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jumbao: 338-402 (104 - 123.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Jumbao's strongest attack: 252 SpA Life Orb Jumbao Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Moltres: 112-133 (34.8 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
If Jumbao loses Life Orb: 252 SpA Jumbao Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Moltres: 86-102 (26.7 - 31.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
If Moltres uses Roost and loses Flying typing: (252 SpA Jumbao Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Moltres: 145-171 (45.1 - 53.2%) -- 33.6% chance to 2HKO), eventually Jumbao will miss, so Moltres will get healed properly.

I'll call this a check to Life Orb Jumbao specifically because Moltres is pretty shaky if it loses its boots and Jumbao retains its Life Orb or if Moltres gets chipped down. It's definitely a counter to any Jumbao without a boosting item.

Subbing Amoonguss as a counter to Jumbao.

1616433568251.png

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Bold Nature
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 92 SpD
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Toxic

Amoonguss tanks anything Jumbao can throw at it and easily heals it back with Regenerator even after rocks, allowing it to cleanly KO it back with Sludge Bomb after the Life Orb recoil or Spore/Toxic on a predicted switch.

252 SpA Life Orb Jumbao Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 92 SpD Amoonguss: 105-125 (24.3 - 29%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Jumbao Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 92 SpD Amoonguss: 105-125 (24.3 - 29%) -- 98.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock, 3 layers of Spikes, and Black Sludge recovery

0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Jumbao: 328-388 (94.5 - 111.8%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Even though I didn't vote for it, I can say from personal experience that quziel's Victini is a demon and puts in way more work than it should.

Hey there again! Sorry its been a while; i've been really busy with school and exams and haven't had time to do this. That said, we should be back on track, with our next victim...

:ss/kyurem:
Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Draco Meteor
- Focus Blast

Kyurem has recently rose from UU to OU, for good reason. It's one of the best breakers in the tier, with an insane damage output and no switchins. Well, almost no switchins. How do we answer this Pokemon? That's for you guys to decide. Submissions close April 13th, 7:00 AM GMT+0, and we'll have a 1 day voting period, extensions are OK as long as you ask well in advance, happy submitting!!

Another week, another beeg counter king

Slowking-Galar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpA / 80 SpD
Calm Nature
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
- Focus Blast

Galarian Slowking is the only SpD wall this side of Blissey that can take Specs Kyurem's hits and dish them right back. G-King's Regenerator allows it to scout for whatever move Kyurem decides to lock into, and then punish accordingly. Kyurem cannot 2HKO G-King barring a crit, and Focus Blast is a guaranteed 2HKO back. Furthermore, G-King can use a Draco turn to setup Future Sight, possibly putting the opponent in a no-win scenario if Kyurem stays in to fish for a crit.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 80+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking-Galar: 183-216 (46.4 - 54.8%) -- 62.1% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 80+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking-Galar: 127-150 (32.2 - 38%) -- 96.7% chance to 3HKO

176 SpA Slowking-Galar Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 238-282 (60.8 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

ExrGKAPUYAA8nDB.jpeg

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 184 SpD / 72 Spe
Careful Nature
- Wish
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Protect

Submitting specially defensive Jirachi as a counter. Jirachi can shrug off most hits from Kyurem, with the exception of a guaranteed 3HKO from Focus Blast. Jirachi can Wish/Protect stall out Focus Blasts in a worst case scenario, but without a crit or a SpDef drop it still wins the Focus Blast matchup. Iron Head in return is a guaranteed 2HKO with Stealth Rock or a 92.6% 2HKO without. If Jirachi can force a switch, it also loves to use Body Slam to fish for paralysis on incoming Pokemon.

Defensive Calcs:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 184+ SpD Jirachi: 93-109 (23 - 26.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 184+ SpD Jirachi: 72-85 (17.8 - 21%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 184+ SpD Jirachi: 133-157 (32.9 - 38.8%) -- 6.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 184+ SpD Jirachi: 164-194 (40.5 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Offensive Calcs:
0 Atk Jirachi Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 188-224 (48 - 57.2%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Jirachi Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 188-224 (48 - 57.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

:sm/jumbao:

Jumbao @ Life Orb
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Healing Wish

Submitting Jumbao as a Check. If Jumbao can come in, it immediately forces Specs Kyruem out with either Moonblast or Focus Blast. Too, Jumbao can support it's team through Healing Wish, allowing a team member to regain their full health; supporting sweepers like Garchomp, or fully healing bulky mons that can't heal for themselves, like Equilibra or Melmetal. Furthermore, Jumbao can switch into a predicted Focus Blast or Draco Meteor basically for free.

252 SpA Life Orb Jumbao Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 424-502 (108.4 - 128.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Jumbao Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 359-424 (91.8 - 108.4%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jumbao: 104-123 (32 - 37.8%) -- 93.8% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jumbao: 470-554 (144.6 - 170.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Scizor @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Knock Off

Scizor is a Check:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 179-211 (52.1 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 145-171 (42.2 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 180-212 (46 - 54.2%) -- 50% chance to 2HKO

It is only threatened by Draco and Focus Blast, and even then only really threatened by Focus Blast, and can otherwise outlast Kyurem pretty easily.

(check btw) Heatran gets murked by Kyurem's coverage (which is usually Earth Power ftr not Focus Blast) but can stomach Draco Meteor a couple of times and do whatever as Kyurem is forced out

After a not so short break , victim of the week is back in business !! This project will continue in a similar fashion as before, every week, I will submit a victim for you so that you can submit checks or counters to the pokemon. Then, after submissions are placed in, voters will vote which ones are the most effective in their eyes.

Here is a link to the thread introduction where you can find the rules and the list of victims already answered.

WEEK 7

Ability: Stamina
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Hurricane
- Earth Power
- Roost

The recently released CAP 30b Venomicon-Prologue has been a driving force in the current metagame, sweeping both prepared and unprepared teams alike with its terrifying Nasty Plot set along with its ability and great bulk making it almost unkillable. How do we answer this Pokemon? That's for you guys to decide. Submissions close January 9th 7:00 AM GMT+0, and we'll have a 1 day voting period, extensions are OK as long as you ask well in advance, happy submitting!!

Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psychic

Specs Tapu Lele functions as a solid check to Venomicon. While Tapu Lele cannot switch into any of Venomicon's attacks after a boost (+2 Hurricane has a 12.5% OHKO chance that is increased to 87.5% after Stealth Rock) and it doesn't really want to be switching in constantly into any of its attacks. However, Tapu Lele does avoid the OHKO from all of its unboosted attacks (Even the rare Sludge Bomb surprisingly enough, even after both Stealth Rock and Poison damage it still just barely hangs on if it was at full) and both of its Psychic-Type attacks are capable of OHKOing Venomicon in return (Psyshock does require that it hasn't gotten any Stamina boosts though. With one Stamina boost Venomicon avoids the OHKO from Timid and drops the chance of an OHKO from Modest to 43.8%).

Relevant Calcs:

0 SpA Venomicon Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 200-236 (71.1 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and poison damage
0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 121-144 (43 - 51.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and poison damage
+2 0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 241-285 (85.7 - 101.4%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
+2 0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 241-285 (85.7 - 101.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Venomicon in Psychic Terrain: 458-542 (122.4 - 144.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. +1 252 HP / 0 Def Venomicon in Psychic Terrain: 306-362 (81.8 - 96.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. +1 252 HP / 0 Def Venomicon in Psychic Terrain: 338-398 (90.3 - 106.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon in Psychic Terrain: 440-522 (117.6 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Fleekachu (Emolga) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge
- Encore
- Roost
- U-turn
Zapdos? Never heard of em. Encore stops book from setting up and gets around earth powers on predicted roosts and stuff. Discharge paras mean you'll break through eventually.

252 SpA Emolga Discharge vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 140-168 (37.4 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Emolga: 103-122 (41 - 48.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Stratagem @ Power Herb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Meteor Beam
- Paleo Wave
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power

Submitting Stratagem as a check. Stratagem does a pretty solid job at this one, resisting Hurricane and hosting an immunity to Earth Power. Meteor Beam chunks for 77-90% first hit and Venomicon can't outspeed and gets 2HKO with a follow-up Paleo Wave. Uninvested Paleo Wave is a guaranteed 2HKO if you don't want to go the Meteor Beam route either. You don't want to chunk 2 +2 Hurricanes which is the main issue with Stratagem being a super reliable option.

252 SpA Stratagem Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 288-338 (77 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Stratagem Paleo Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 204-242 (54.5 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Stratagem: 181-213 (56.3 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Stratagem: 90-107 (28 - 33.3%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO

Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Focus Blast
- Nasty Plot

Thundurus-T is immune to Earth Power despite being electric type and resists Hurricane. It is a counter if Venomicon is unboosted, but if Venomicon already has a Nasty Plot then it cannot come in but is still a check. Thunderbolt is always a minimum of a 2hko in the worst case and Thundurus-T is always faster, and it does not take a lot from unboosted hurricane. Boosted it still only takes just over half and still checks Venomicon. The biggest problem would be the 30% chance of Hurricane confusion, but that requires that Hurricane actually hits, and confuses, and Tornadus hits itself at least once. Different coverage could be used to beat other mons, but I personally prefer Flash Cannon and Focus Blast to hit Thundurus's only weaknesses, Ice and Rock types.

0 SpA Thundurus-Therian Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Venomicon: 294-348 (94.5 - 111.8%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 82-97 (27.4 - 32.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Venomicon: 270-320 (72.1 - 85.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-Therian: 164-193 (54.8 - 64.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Thundurus-Therian Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Venomicon: 452-534 (120.8 - 142.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 68 SpA / 188 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch / Discharge
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder Wave / Nasty Plot
- Pain Split

Immune to EP, doesn't care about Hurricane and Mystical Fire, & can threaten TWave or set up in its face. Volt + status is what will be more consistent outside of Venomicon, whereas NP + Discharge is extremely strong into the book at the cost of being more of a matchup fish elsewhere. Hydro Pump doesn't always 3HKO but has decent odds to, meaning you can break Venom with just one or two paras –– frankly, just inflicting it with Thunder Wave is progress enough. The EVs lean more offensive because I don't value defensive Rotom-W a lot in the meta atm, and a lot of teams struggle against strong Electric/Water STABs so it's better to lean into that.

Ftr Rotom-H is just as good (if not better) at answering Venom but the washer is a bit more viable overall so that's what I went with.

Equilibra @ Leftovers
Level: 100
Quiet Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 84 SpA / 32 SpD
IVs: 12 Spe
- Earth Power
- Doom Desire
- Flash Cannon
- Pain Split

Equilibra is a solid Check to book as it resists or is immune to its stabs and immune to Venomicons Earth Power.
Doom desire is strong enough to force roosts which Equilibra can abuse with its own Earth Power.

Equi needs to be careful of NP sets running mystical fire or (less so) of physically defensive sets with body press, although those have been niche so far and struggle to break past Libra with pain split. The SpA drop of Mystical Fire impedes Libras ability to threaten Venom on the roost though.

SpA invest is to force Roost with Just one Doom Desire and Flash Cannon and EP being able to kill after Doom, Flash Cannon and Roost. Speed Ivs and Quiet Nature to guarantee to underspeed Venom.
Pain Split offers additional recovery and enables Equi to check even plus six venom pretty reliably. With more SpD investment (184 Evs, Sassy Nature) you can also prevent a 2hko from +6 Hurricane, although that impedes Equis versatility as a defensive mon.

Equi has struggled in the most recent edition of CAP, but as long as NP with Earth Power is Venoms Main Set it has value, especially since it soft checks a ton of other stuff and is generally very versatile as a defensive mon.

+6 0 SpA Venomicon Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Equilibra: 229-270 (56.1 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

(Venom needs 3 turns of set up to get to this and it needs to hit two canes in a row, while Libra pressures it with doom and Flash cannon)

84+ SpA Equilibra Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 210-248 (56.3 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
84+ SpA Equilibra Doom Desire vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 162-192 (43.4 - 51.4%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO
84+ SpA Equilibra Flash Cannon vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Venomicon: 93-111 (24.9 - 29.7%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO

Edit: if you want to be funny, you bring psych up Libra
