hi

unrank the mons below

(maybe)

-> B this might be a controversial one but since indd left, this thing is seeing less usage. it's still ok vs plume if you dont get poisoned ofc but the main reason this thing had its usage left the tier soooo

-> B+ a lot of good water resists are everywhere; mantine, croak, gastro. Perpetually getting forced out by mowtom doesnt help either. Idt it's a dogshit mon it has slightly, in my eyes, too many negatives to belong in the a ranks.

-> A- this mon is good but not A good, just A- good idk LOL

might edit this later but this is it for now..

:Virizion: B- to B
Virizion as a wallbreaker matches up well against the meta. It's a grass type that isn't weak to Groundvally's u-turn and still resists its multi attack. As a grass type, it resists both of Rotom-c's stabs while being able to fire back with a CC or sacred sword. Additionally, Virizion's access to Stone Edge make it not a free switch into flying types like Talonflame and Xatu. Its typing also allows Virizion a good matchup into common walls like Stakataka, Vaporeon, and Mudsdale. Despite that, Virizion does struggle against Mantine and Vileplume, as its OHKOd by hurricane and does nothing to Plume.
Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Sacred Sword / Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Synthesis

An uninvested Leaf Storm OHKOs Groundvally without rocks while Leaf Blade can't, which is one reason this set can get away with being mixed. Additionally, Leaf Storm is better against Mudsdale, and it's kinda funny to break out the physical coverage at halved SpA. Close Combat should probably be used over Sacred Sword for the power, but I just want an excuse to run Sacred Sword.

Silvally:
0 SpA Life Orb Virizion Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Silvally-Ground: 346-408 (104.5 - 123.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Leaf Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Ground: 312-369 (94.2 - 111.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 Atk Silvally-Ground Flame Charge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Virizion: 116-138 (35.9 - 42.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 Atk Silvally-Ground Flame Charge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Virizion: 230-272 (71.2 - 84.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Unless you are eating a +2 Flame Charge on the switch, a healthy Virizion can always KO a Groundvally.

Walls:
0 SpA Life Orb Virizion Leaf Storm over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 40+ SpD Vaporeon: 458-543 (98.7 - 117%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Life Orb Virizion Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mudsdale: 377-447 (93.3 - 110.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (obviously can guarantee the KO with more investment)
252 Atk Life Orb Virizion Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Xatu: 200-237 (59.8 - 70.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Xatu Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Virizion: 168-198 (52 - 61.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

One final update as we enter a new generation of NeverUsed. Danny has once again given his perspective towards this slate as well as now two-time Circuit Champion and NU Snake winner Xiri. Thank you both for joining us.

Previously Unranked:
:audino: UR ➡ C Audino is an unequivocal staple on stall teams due to its amazing bulk and Regenerator, as well as amazing support moves like Knock Off, Heal Bell, and Wish, making for amazing role compression which is a common theme for most of these tier rises.
:golbat: UR ➡ C Golbat is a unique support Pokemon with an amazing defensive typing and great speed to give it an edge against slow wallbreakers. It can effectively weaken walls with a combination of Super Fang, Taunt, or Toxic / Poison Fang to support its teammates while staying healthy with Roost. Golbat also makes for a solid Defog user and has a surprisingly potent Brave Bird and solid pivoting with U-Turn.
:pincurchin: UR ➡ C+ Pincurchin is an Electric Surge bot that doesn't find much use besides existing, however it enables the likes of Raichu-Alola, Sceptile, and others, making this tradeoff quite worthwhile. Pincurchin isn't entirely useless either, as it has Spikes and decently powerful offensive coverage despite its relatively poor stats. Electric Terrain also prevents Pokemon like Snorlax and Scrafty from using Rest, making them much easier to manage offensively.
:raichu-alola: UR ➡ C+ When provided with Electric Terrain, Alolan-Raichu makes for one of the fastest and most powerful Pokemon available in the tier, with coverage in Grass Knot and Psychic for common Electric resists like Mudsdale and Vileplume respectively. Electric Terrain teams have continuously been used and seen success in the tier, even in SCL and NU Circuit (shoutouts to Xiri again), so its a crime to not rank the combination as the generation comes to an end.
:sableye: UR ➡ C+ Sableye is a very specific puzzle piece that doesn't fit onto many teams, but it fulfills its role better than anyone else. Not even Mudsdale can consistently take hits from hard hitters like Tauros and Toxicroak, and Sableye can do this all while spreading burns and Knock Off and staying healthy with Recover. Sableye also shuts down HO teams very effectively thanks to Encore. Its been used periodically since even before Machamp was banned and definitely deserves a place on the VR.
:thwackey: UR ➡ C Much like Pincurchin, Thwackey provides its teammates with Grassy Terrain that enables some very powerful moves. Grassy Seed Calm Mind users can snowball very quickly with Calm Mind boosts, and Grassy Glides from the likes of Dhelmise are very difficult to pivot around given its other powerful coverage moves. The passive healing from Grassy Terrain also enables setup sweepers like Hitmonlee and Sceptile to potentially setup once more than they'd be able to otherwise. Thwackey itself has a decent offensive presence with Knock Off and U-Turn and even Low Kick for unsuspecting Steel-types.

Rises:
:starmie: A- ➡ A Starmie lost some competition as an offensive Psychic-type in Indeedee-F, but it also appreciates the less Wish-centric metagame in light of Mantine (Thunderbolt food) prevailing as the current best defensive Water-type. The power of Analytic-boosted moves cannot be understated as even special walls like Scrafty and Sylveon struggle to switch into Starmie's Hydro Pumps. Starmie's utility sets are also incredibly useful, completely walling Stakataka and Mudsdale's main attacking moves and shrugging off Toxic.
:vaporeon: A- ➡ A Much like the water Vaporeon lives in, its position in the metagame comes in waves as players prepare to beat so hard it nearly fades out of existence, only for it to be forgotten about and therefore less prepped for, making it quite difficult to deal with.
:decidueye: B+ ➡ A- Without Indeedee-F's Psychic Terrain up and mandated Dark-types on every team, Decidueye can finally shine again as an amazing sweeper / breaker hybrid. Choice Band and Choice Specs still completely blow up their traditional checks, and Swords Dance variants have the natural bulk and amazing typing to either punch giant holes in teams or completely sweep already weakened teams with a +2 Shadow Sneak.
:stunfisk-galar: B ➡ B+ Galarian Stunfisk is the poster child for role-compression, providing a Volt Switch-immunity (that also doesn't get OHKO'd by Rotom-C Leaf Storm!), a Steel-type, and it gets Stealth Rock. Although it's not as good at any one of these roles as other options, this compression makes room for more offensive teammates.
:arcanine: B- ➡ B Arcanine is a much sturdier pivot than Talonflame, with Intimidate and simply better bulk stat-wise, and a less crippling Stealth Rock weakness. Arcanine simply has a better matchup against the current meta than it used to, forcing Toxic's on bulky Water-types and doing better against Toxicroak and Escavalier.
:exploud: B- ➡ B Exploud also faced very stiff competition from Indeedee-F, and now with it gone players are remembering just how powerful it is. Exploud is always one read away from completely deleting your one Boomburst switchin with a coverage move, but Boomburst can 3HKO a lot of Steel-types anyway.
:gigalith: B- ➡ B Sand Offense is a very potent strategy, with Sandslash OHKOing almost the entire tier at +2 with a largely uncontested speed tier. Again with less WishProtect seen in the meta to stall out Sand and keep physical walls like Mudsdale healthy from repeated hits, Sand is much stronger in the current meta.
:sandslash: B- ➡ B ^
:aurorus: C+ ➡ B- Aurorus makes for one of the best dedicated leads in the tier and is also a super powerful wallbreaker.
:eldegoss: C+ ➡ B- Eldegoss is another role-compression demon, with Rapid Spin and Aromatherapy while also having Regenerator, which makes it a pretty reliably Silvally-Ground check. It's quite passive but can still be a nuisance with Leech Seed and Sleep Powder.
:glastrier: C+ ➡ B Glastrier's sheer bulk and power lets it effortlessly cleave through a lot of balances, many of which have no defensive answers that can even fade its Substitutes. Close Combat and High Horsepower have been seen more as a means to KO Stakataka, and Throat Chop's use has generally gone down as Exploud and Hyper Voice Sylveon are less common.
:ninjask: C+ ➡ B- Ninjask's ability to force in its specific checks (which lack recovery) and allow free entry to a specialized breaker all while ignoring the very concept of speed control makes it a very powerful Pokemon to use if supported properly, which it admittedly demands a lot of.
:froslass: C ➡ C+ Spikes are good, Froslass doesn't really go down without at least being very annoying.
:jellicent: C ➡ C+
:magneton: C ➡ C+ Magneton's Iron Defense set is pretty much a delete button against all Steel-types barring SD Close Combat Escavalier (assuming it doesn't get crit). This kind of support is fantastic for Pokemon like CM Sylveon and Exploud which lack any real checks beyond these Steel-types.

Drops:
:tsareena: A ➡ A- As good as Tsareena is on paper, it struggles to fit Synthesis and finds itself getting easily chipped due to its weakness to U-Turn and vulnerability to status and Rocky Helmet.
:snorlax: A ➡ A- The meta simply isn't kind to it, with the top mons like SD Silvally-Ground and Glastrier, Vileplume existing, and Scrafty generally being a better setup sweeper.
:sceptile: B+ ➡ B Losing Indeedee-F was a big blow to Sceptile's placement (should have been bigger but the people have spoken). It can still make do with Pincurchin or Thwackey but obviously those are way worse than Indeedee-F.
:gallade: B ➡ B- Perhaps a bit of overhype put him too high, but Gallade is simply outclassed by other physical breakers, and it also provides 0 defensive utility that others like Passimian or Exploud have at least a little of.
:sneasel: B ➡ B- Supporting Sneasel with heavy hazard control is just extremely difficult and being constantly forced out by common revenge killers like Talonflame, Inteleon, and Scarfers is very annoying.

Thanks for a fun gen 8 y'all :3
