Week 41: Victini
1626849460715.png

Victini is a powerful wallbreaker and interesting defensive option that has been popping up here and there for a while now, offering a check to common breakers like Lele whilst exerting a powerful offensive presence with its enormous BP stab in V-create and colorful coverage movepool.

You have until Monday to build around Victini

First of all I just want to say, fuck victini. Great in theory but hard to execute. Probably one of the best if not the best stall breaker in the game paired up with fsight support while also being a soft volc and lele check. I wanted to play around with body press bro to counter weavile to an extent. Slack off had to be dropped but you can also choose to drop scald/fsight. Vic’s last move can honestly be whatever but this team really struggles against cm clef so encore was chosen to have a better mu vs that. Corviknight serving as the defogger. With corv being one spdef drop away from being 2hkoed by pult, hydreigon was the perfect back up while also serving as the tran switchin and late game cleaner. I have tried many variants even life orb 3A but leftovers plot is definitely the best. Spdef lando as the rocker and toxic support to better help vs pult/volc. Zeraora as the last pick for better speed control, the BU version is by far the best. Great vs HO and balance once lando is chipped which is very easy to do with victini support.

Enjoy the team!

Victini-Garchomp U-Turn Offense

(Click on the sprites for the Pokepaste)

I had not tried out Victini in SS OU before this competition. But after using it now, it does seem pretty underrated.

Victini can wallbreak well due to strong moves that provide great coverage. It is also is a good pivot that U-turn out of checks like Heatran, Tyranitar, Toxapex etc.. to bring in Garchomp, who can force out these Victini checks and use that opportunity to wallbreak or setup. Additionally, they share checks like Slowbro, Hippowdon and Landorus-T, making this Victini-Garchomp core really good. Rest of the team revolves around making this core function at its best. Tapu Koko is a great speed control option and arguably Victini's best partner since Electric Terrain boosts Bolt Strike, letting Victini break past Toxapex and Slowbro. Scizor is the next Pokemon that joins the U-Turn party, being able to switch into mons like Kartana, Weavile etc.. that can threaten other team-members, while U-turning out of Heatran, Toxapex and Zapdos for Garchomp and Koko to take advantage of. Next comes another U-turn spammer in Landorus-T to set-up rocks, check Zeraora and opponent Garchomp, Toxic opponent Landorus-T (opponent Lando-T checks all the aformentioned team-members) and bait in steel birds and Slowbro for Victini and Tapu Koko. The last member of this team is utility Tapu Fini to improve Dragapult, Urshifu-R and Heatran matchup, while chipping away at fatter teams with Taunt + Nature's Madness.

tldr : Victini-Garchomp is a strong core upon which team is built around, structured as pivot spam offense to provide ample opportunities for Victini to break and Garchomp to sweep.

I have to agree with zeno420, i found it really hard to build around victini. Many ideas, but many underwhelming results. But i finally put together something that seems reasonable. I present you

Rockless Victini Offense

click on the sprites for the importable

The main checks of Victini are Heatran, bulky ground and regenerating bulky waters. He can theoretically beat them all, but combinations of Heatran + ground and water + ground make Victini very sad, because he can't deal guaranteed and/or lasting damage. So i decided to give Victini U-turn and paired him with pokés that can beat those combinations by themselves (Urshifu beats Heatran + Ground, Kyurem beats Ground + Water). At this point i had two pokémon weak to Stealth Rock, so i decided to run two defoggers and not play Stealth Rock myself. I added Scizor because he's the best looking pokémon ever it's a great defensive pivot in addition to Lando and Rotom, since it gives me a second priority, which is extremely useful in a team like this that lacks traditional speed control, and because it can easily clean up teams that have been softened by the Victini-Urshifu-Kyurem wallbreaking core.

thank you all for the submissions this week, its time to vote :victini:

Reminder: the voting system used is the Ranked Pairs format (the same as CAP uses). To vote you basically order your options like this: C>B>A>D, like this A>B=C>D, or like this D>C, assuming there are 4 team options (A, B, C, and D). If you choose not to vote for all teams, the last team(s) will be assumed to be last and valued equally if more than one got left out. Additionally, don't vote for your own submission.

I liked concept of C team more ngl, but lack of proper Speed Control (AJ and BP ain't enough) means I vote for A
i agree, in fact i'm still working on the team; now i'm trying scarf fini > rotom, which also helps me vs dragapult and urshifu (which are extremely dangerous whenever they come in)
another option could be to give choice scarf to victini, but you still need help vs dragapult and urshifu, so i feel like some kind of tapu fini definitely fits into the team

Week 42: Magnezone
462[1].png

Magnezone stands out as the single best enabler in the tier, consistently trapping one of the most omniprescent typings in the metagame, steel. this includes pokemon such as Corviknight and Ferrothorn, whose abscence lets pokemon like Tapu Lele and Weavile preform even more effectively.
Magnezone's defensive utility is also fairly notable, possessing huge physdef and a resistance to key typings like Ice and Electric.

You have until Monday to submit teams based around Magnezone.

Zone + breaker + a few support mons = ez win. I chose pads SD kart cuz it's fun to make people think you're choice locked and then switch up moves on them. Zone does Zone things. I chose BP ID to trap ferro and Steel beam is the 4th move of choice to get a decent hit on something and give me a free switch to a mon assuming I'm under half health. Fini/gking/corv/Lando is a very potent defensive core that pivots around, sets up fs, and prevents the metagane staples from running through the team. The fini spread lets it tank hits from pult/weav/shifu and have agood chance to OHKO all of them with the tiniest amount of chip, which is helped by Corvs Rocky Helmet. Mixed defense Lando is my favorite Lando set, as it survives hits from everything and reminds me of gliscor (BDSP pls come soon ;_;). Gkings spread lives 2 pult shadow balls and ice beam hits that + greedy landos/chomps. Scald to not be walled by heatran. The build is a bit standard but it works and while a recent team of mine, is a fun one to use

:landorus-therian: :tapu-koko: :magnezone: obviously forming the volturn core here. Able to pressure each other’s checks immensely namely ferro and metal birds. Edge on lando can be replaced with knock to get rid of shed shell on corv and skarm. The evs on lando allow it to live specs Draco from pult at full. Specs zone in terrain has little to no switchins with both blissey and ferro easily 2hkoed.

:weavile: and :dragonite: were both added in to better pressure grounds such as lando and chomp while providing good defensive utility. You can also choose to run a more defense set with ice beam and heal bell. Although volc does become much more of a threat with equake now not being a 2hko.

:zeraora: was added in last for speed control and another mon to take advantage of electric terrain. Knocking off lando’s leftovers on switchin is also great for late game clean up.

Overall a much more offensive teams, try to play more aggressively and make doubles to force progress on fatter teams getting zone in as much as possible.

Who needs to trap stuff when you can break bulky grounds with Analytic SpecsZone? Magnezone forms a nice VoltTurn core with Bandshifu: they give each other breaking opportunities, with Magnezone VSwitching on special walls crushed by Urshifu (like Blissey and Slowking-G), and Urshifu U-turning on the bulky waters (Slowbro, Tapu Fini, Toxapex) that Magnezone electrifies. Bulk Up Zeraora is probably the best cleaner for a team that pressures physical walls with Shifu and grounds with SpecsZone; i was using Close Combat at first, but Drain Punch is much better on the Bulk Up set (how surprising). Then i added Slowbro for FSight support and to check lots of physical stuff, like Dragonite, Garchomp (so Ice Beam > Slack Off) and opposing Urshifus; i'm not really missing Slack Off, the team is fast enough that Slowbro doesn't have to live forever to do its job. Ferrothorn has Stealth Rock, sponges attacks from Dragapult and other special attackers and helps vs Weavile; i opted for Iron Head because with Body Press i'm too weak to SubRoost Kyurem. I tried a defensive Bisharp with Stealth Rock in his slot, but it didn't feel very good (how surprising pt.2). Landorus has Defog, checks Zeraora and gives me a needed ground immunity.
