reserving Assault Vest Duraludon
884.png

Duraludon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 176 HP / 40 Def / 132 SpA / 160 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Body Press
- Draco Meteor
Duraludon is a Pokemon with fantastic Defense and good HP but bad Special Defense. However, if it is equipped with an Assault Vest and is given good investment in HP and SpDef, it becomes a really bulky Pokemon. Its naturally high Defense stat helps it take even double powered Bolt Beaks from Arctozolt with ease. With the newfound Special Defense investment, it also takes Blizzards and thus, Freeze Dries from Arctozolt with ease (hence why I don't mention the Freeze Dry calc). Its Ability, Light Metal halves its weight and it can thus take Low Kicks with ease. Finally, it can also take advantage of its high Defense stat to beat Arctozolt in the form of Body Press. The EV Spread for it helps it accomplish the following:

252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (40 BP) vs. 176 HP / 40+ Def Duraludon: 58-70 (17.8 - 21.5%) -- 6.8% chance to 4HKO after hail damage

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 176 HP / 40+ Def Duraludon: 90-106 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- 84.4% chance to 3HKO after hail damage

20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 176 HP / 160 SpD Assault Vest Duraludon: 100-118 (30.7 - 36.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage

40+ Def Duraludon Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 162-192 (50.4 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It's almost as if Duraludon was made to be a perfect Arctozolt counter.

(Katy approved this, stop telling me I can only submit VR mons please)

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Scale Shot
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance

Does this even need an explanation? Okay I guess it does

20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Yache Berry Garchomp: 254-302 (71.1 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and hail damage
252 Atk Arctozolt Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Yache Berry Garchomp: 242-288 (67.7 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and hail damage

Yeah yache berry Chomp is one of the ultimate lures. Without life orb icicle crash, Arctozolt just cannot one shot Garchomp from full. I'm gonna say sharky boi is just a check because it really needs to be careful with its health. It can turn Arctozolt into scale shot fodder and just rip it apart. Worse yet, the fastest Arctozolt in the world is still slower than +1 Garchomp so if sharky boi got that boost, good night. Stone edge is just personal preference

Checks: :Torkoal: and :Ferrothorn:

Counters: :Mamoswine: and :Rotom-Heat:

You guys are picking the ones that slowly die to hail chip? If they switch in they take 6.25% on switchin, + however much from the attacks, then 6.25% as they switch out. Without recovery all the "counters" are just temporary stopgaps until they slowly die of hail chip.

The Winners in Checks are:

:ferrothorn: by Abhi
:melmetal: by TailGlowVM

The Winners in Counters are:
with an overwhelming amount :rotom-heat: by Ruft
and :marowak-alola: by YellowPaint

Gratz y'all!! Your submissions will go into the Archive!

But now onto the next rounds Victim of the Week 26, which is none other than our good Steel-boy Melmetal:

:ss/Melmetal:
Melmetal @ Protective Pads
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 104 SpD / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Thunder Punch
- Superpower

- Thunder Wave

This Pokemon with Protective Pads packs quite the punch, it can achieve a multitude of things, it can break a lot of Pokemon with its signature Steel-type STAB in Double Iron Bash coupled with Thunder Punch to hit Corviknight, Skarmory, Slowbro, and Toxapex, alongside Superpower to break through Ferrothorn it is one of the most terrifying breakers in the game. Thunder Wave can slow opponents down, which gives it the upper bash, literally.
When the opposition is crippled due to Thunder Wave, it has more chances to flinch with Double Iron Bash, which makes it quite a scary opponent to face. But what are great checks and counters to it? What do you guys think, lets submit!

Submission deadline will end on Wednesday Good Luck everyone. :blobwizard:

Clauses and Rules:
  • Shedinja as a pokemon can't be submitted (too easy)
  • ONLY OU VIABLE POKEMON FROM NOW ON!
Happy submitting!

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Aqua Jet
- U-turn

Urshifu is a pretty decent check to Melmetal. Close Combat is able to be one of the few moves that is able to OHKO Melmetal and Urshifu is able to survive every hit, even from Thunder Punch, and only really fears Thunder Wave.

252 Atk Choice Band Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Close Combat vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 432-510 (102.6 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 138-162 (40.4 - 47.5%) -- approx. 3HKO
252+ Atk Melmetal Superpower vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 153-181 (44.8 - 53%) -- 30.5% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 230-272 (67.4 - 79.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

@ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 220 Def / 40 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Defog

Zapdos is a counter as it absolutely sits on melmetal since it lacks ice punch and earthquake and it can finish for static paralysis while also being able 2hko melmetal 100% of the time after a bit of chip. As zapdos is fast its immune to the flinches from DIB and thunder punch is not making progress on it especially as roost removes the electric neutrality and turns it into a resistance. It is also immune to paralysis to it cannot be slowed down or be full paralyzed.

0 SpA Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 40 HP / 104 SpD Melmetal: 204-240 (48.4 - 57%) -- 38.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 248 HP / 220 Def Zapdos: 126-150 (32.8 - 39.1%) -- approx. 100% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 220 Def Zapdos: 105-124 (27.4 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

:ss/Gastrodon:
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Relaxed Nature
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Toxic

Gastrodon is a counter to melmetal, being able to take several super powers and double iron bashes with ease and regain it's health with recover. It then can wear Melmetal down with scald and earthquake.
252+ Atk Melmetal Superpower over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 236-279 (55.3 - 65.4%) -- not a KO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 126-150 (29.5 - 35.2%) -- approx. 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Gastrodon Scald vs. 40 HP / 104 SpD Melmetal: 100-118 (23.7 - 28%) -- 88.6% chance to 4HKO
0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 134-162 (31.8 - 38.4%) -- 95.5% chance to 3HKO

:bw/rotom-heat:
Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Discharge
- Overheat
- Pain Split
Rotom heat's fire type allows it to come on double iron bash. Electric types make it immune to thunder wave and resisted to thunder punch. It could setup with nasty plot or just ohko melmetal with overheat.

252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Heat: 66-78 (21.7 - 25.7%) -- approx. 0.1% chance to 4HKO

252+ Atk Melmetal Superpower vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Heat: 146-172 (48.1 - 56.7%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO

8 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 40 HP / 104 SpD Melmetal: 362-428 (85.9 - 101.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

Its a check as it can get worn down quickly and its only form of recovery is pain split which is not reliable.
Also Coolcodename is a cool guy
