:throh: SS PU Beta Sample Sets :glaceon:

Hi everyone, this post will serve as a (likely temporary) resource for sample sets until we start to get sample sets/analyses on site (around the time SS PU quits the beta stage) and will be updated regularly until then. We've chosen to focus on Pokemon ranked B and above on the VR for now, but have also added a few sets for Pokemon that we believe deserve a sample set. Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions on sets to add/change or if you've noticed any mistakes.

Huge thanks to zS for providing about 95% of sets originally listed here, as well as to everyone else who contributed and keeps contributing (too many to list).

Alright I am going to Submit a really cool team I made recently and that I think that could be sample worthy since it's really easy to understand and represents well what the meta tends to be atm.
:ss/klang: :ss/shiinotic: :ss/carkol: :ss/silvally-dragon: :ss/manectric: :ss/throh:
(click on the sprites for importable)

Really standard team here, based around Shift Gear Klang which is a really reliable set-up sweeper that also provides a good defensive support. It can barely check offensive Mawile, switch into Glaceon's powerfull Ice STABs, the speed investment allows it outspeed base 95 Speed Pokemon after a Shift Gear, which is a really important speed tier to creep with all the Silvallies around. Klang struggles against Fighting Types so Shiinotic immediately came to my mind. Helmet is there to discourage opposing Throhs to just click Circle Throw and shuffle the team around. This core struggles a lot against Heatmor and Manectric. I also needed some hazard control so I added Carkol and Silvally-Dragon to the squad. Carkol provides Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin support to the team so it's really good for role compression. Silvally-Dragon is a really good switch in to both Heatmor and Manectric and also has the ability to sweep late game. I realised that my team could struggle a bit against Volt-turn cores. Manectric was all I needed: Volt Switch absorber thanks to Lightning Rod, revenge killer and speed control with Choice Scarf, and the ability to cripple defensive Pokemon and slow setup sweepers with Switcheroo. I picked Throh as the last slot because I needed a bulky Pokemon that could act as a phazer. That's pretty much all for that team, huge thanks to SergioRules for his help during the redaction of the description. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Fake Out Spam Balance
Click mons for importable version
Got this idea from wanting to build a Normal-spam team, but without many Normals in the tier, I had to settle for Pikachu which may as well be a Normal type with its insanely powered Fake Out+Espeed. It's been a very successful team for me so I thought I'd share before something on the team inevitable gets banned.
  • Persian being the fastest unboosted Pokemon in the tier (other than Eiscue-Noice) really helps this team versus opposing offense. Its high powered STAB Fake Outs and Double-Edges allow it to put heavy dents in most Silvally forms, Basculin, and Leafeon. Fast U-turns also help add momentum to the team while Knock Off has its usual great utility.
  • Pikachu acts as another Fake Out user, while also packing even more priority with Extreme Speed. Volt Switch helps continue the momentum, while Surf allows Pikachu to break through Stonjourner and Carkol, and the given EV spread allows it to outspeed the former.
  • Stonjourner is the team's Stealth Rock user and the set is pretty self explanatory. Stone Edge for STAB, Heat Crash beats Mawile and other Steels, and I like to run Heavy Slam instead of Earthquake because it allows Stonjourner to hit Vibrava harder and the former two moves hit basically everything else except for something like Palpitoad or Whiscash which you wouldn't beat 1v1 with EQ anyway.
  • The Gourgeist-Super slot has been shifted around the most, originally being a Ludicolo, then a Nasty Plot Gourgeist-Large, eventually ending up with this cursed set. Gourgeist acts as a Fighting-check and the given set allows it to beat RestTalk Pokemon like Throh and Type: Null by using Skill Swap to prevent them from using Rest and allowing them to be further worn down by Toxic. The Speed investment allows it to outpace most Throh if they aren't near max Speed, Type: Null, and Seaking which could otherwise cause problems for the team.
  • Silvally-Posion acts as the team's form of hazard control as a Toxic Spikes absorber and Defogger. Flamethrower allows it to beat Mawile, Pawniard, and most Klang with the given Special Attack investment, while Grass Pledge is there to hit Palpitoad and Stonjourner. All of these Pokemon can usually switch into Silvally-Poison, so especially Grass coverage allows it to catch opponents off guard.
  • Finally, Klang is used as a bulky setup sweeper. zS kindly passed me this spread which allows it to outspeed base 95 Speed Pokemon after a Shift Gear boost while also staying bulky enough to check Pokemon like Mawile and physical Silvally variants (though max Special Attack ones can 3HKO you).

PikaSpikes Hyper Offense (click for importable and whatnot)
This team is one that I've used to pretty good success, and I'm actually proud of it despite not feeling too warmly towards it before. It was made before Silvally-Flying was banned + sun was nerfed, and though they could be played around and didn't always beat this team, they were consistently threatening. With the most recent changes to PU, however, I feel like the team is now easier to use, as well as more fun to use. I'm not sure if Silvally-Dragon will get banned soon, but I figured that this is probably the best time to do something with the team before that happens.

I wanted to build hazard stacking offense, but I wasn't sure which Pokemon to settle with as a lead. It was then that I remembered about a hyper offense team I made in Gen 7 using Focus Sash Roselia, which caused me to use it again and go from there. With all of this introductory stuff out of the way, here's the actual team explanation.

Focus Sash Roselia is usually the lead of choice for this team, unless the opponent has a Fake Out user. It's a bit of an underexplored set (at least in this generation), though it's not bad at all. Roselia's able to pressure Hattrem and common hazard removers with Sludge Bomb poison and Sleep Powder, respectively, and access to both Spikes and Toxic Spikes allows it to pressure offensive teams and defensive teams alike.

Pawniard completes the hazard stacking core by offering Stealth Rock, deters the use of Defog because of Defiant, covers the team's vulnerability to Psychic-types, and annoys teams in general through the combination of Taunt and Knock Off. I have Pawniard running a bulkier EV spread to provide the team with a more reliable check to Pokemon like Glaceon that would otherwise be very annoying to handle.

Pikachu is something I knew I wanted to use going into making this team, and it hasn't let me down yet. Fake Out + ExtremeSpeed is very nice for wearing foes down in the early game, as well as cleaning in the late-game. Pikachu's strong dual priority also allows it to pressure opposing offensive teams (particularly in tandem with TSpikes) and serve as a solid revenge killer. Because of Light Ball and its coverage, Pikachu is also good for softening up fat teams, which helps against balance. Initially, I ran Volt Switch to complete a VoltTurn core with the next member, though Volt Tackle gives Pikachu a strong STAB move to throw out when its priority won't cut it.

Silvally-Dragon is a good offensive pivot for the team that also provides useful resistances to Water, Fire, and Electric and can remove entry hazards in an emergency. It's also decently fast, which makes pivoting, Defogging, and dropping Dracos easier. I know it's counterproductive to run Defog on a team like this, but like I said, it's only there in case things get rough against opposing hazard stack builds.

Choice Scarf Mr. Mime was added to provide the team with speed control, a check to Fighting-types, and Healing Wish support, which is especially useful if a particular teammate gets worn down too fast. I mainly use Healing Wish to bring Pikachu/Throh back, though most of the team appreciates a potential second lease on life towards the middle or end of a game.

Finally, I added Flame Orb Throh to give the team another powerful wallbreaker, since Pikachu was the only other exceptionally strong member prior. It isn't particularly fast, even with the Speed investment, but it shreds a lot of defensive teams while being bulky enough to take neutral hits as it dishes out its own damage. The Speed investment makes Throh faster than uninvested Gothitelle, and it also helps against Pokemon that might try to creep for Gothitelle, like Gourgeist.

Certain Pokemon like Basculin, Glaceon, and Lapras can be annoying to handle, though the team has tools to deal with these problematic match-ups. Similarly, opposing hazard stack / webs teams are annoying, though they're arguably easier to handle what with Defog + Throh being able to take a hit or two before KOing a foe. That's the team, hope you enjoy using it if you decide to give it a try! n_n

I'll start with a disclaimer: this team looks extremely similar to asa's team posted right above me, but it is a different team that I built a week ago, and similarities between the two are coincidental. With this out of the way, here's my sample team submission:

:ss/pikachu::ss/roselia::ss/hippopotas::ss/grapploct::ss/mr-mime::ss/silvally-dragon:
PikaSpikes Offense (ft. Double Phazers)
(click sprites for importable, dummy)

I started the team off with the core of Pikachu, Hippopotas, and an as-of-yet undecided Spikes setter mainly as an experiment of trying to use sand pre-Drought and Heat Rock bans, and also toyed around with the idea of using a Spikes setter with Weather Ball like Roselia or Maractus that can function as a surprise lure to Glaceon. I've been wanting to build a good dedicated PikaSpikes team for some time by that point, and Hippopotas looked like a great option for a Stealth Rock setter due to the aforementioned Sand Stream, as well as its ability to take further advantage of Spikes with Whirlwind. Eventually I have decided on Roselia as a Spikes setter due to its excellent offensive capabilities allowing it to threaten stuff that can annoy the Pika+Hippo core, like Shiinotic and Gourgeist (and eventually gave up on the idea of using Weather Ball after I realized Leaf Storm actually deals more damage to most targets lol). Later on I rounded up the team with AV Grapploct for dealing with special attackers and providing additional phazing with Circle Throw, SD Silvally-Dragon for wallbreaking and easing Pikachu's task of revenge killing, and Choice Scarf Mr. Mime for speed control and Healing Wish support (which is absolutely necessary for a team like this that features no hazard removal).

Hi keppy, my dear friend from law school, the weird fishes to my arpeggi. Thanks for brainstorming with me and making this team a reality. Also thanks to everyone else who provided valuable input.

This is an offensive entry hazard-stacking team centered around the idea of forcing as many switches as possible via offensive pressure and phazing, and maximizing Pikachu's chances of successfully cleaning late-game.

Pikachu is an excellent Pokemon in the current meta that highly appreciates entry hazard support wearing down the opposing team to a point that it can revenge kill its foes efficiently with Fake Out + Extreme Speed. It also runs Knock Off for crippling switch-ins such as Gourgeist and Choice Scarf Stonjourner and breaking slow Psychic-types such as Beheeyem and Hatterm after slight chip damage, and Volt Switch for generating momentum.

Offensive Roselia can generate many opportunities to set Spikes with Sleep Powder, and also offers excellent offensive support for Pikachu, dealing considerable pressure to Grass-types such as Shiinotic, Gourgeist, and Leafeon, as well as Mawile.

Hippopotas, in addition to forcing switches with Whirlwind, provides Stealth Rock support and acts as a great defensive Pokemon, being able to switch into most physical Silvally formes, Type: Null, and Mawile, as well as Electric-types like Manectric and opposing Pikachu. It also provides further chip damage to the opposing team with Sand Stream.

Assault Vest Grapploct provides further phazing with Circle Throw, and completes the team's defensive backbone by checking strong special attackers such as Glaceon, Lapras, and Ludicolo. Its Speed investment lets it outspeed uninvested Throh and Mawile.

Choice Scarf Mr. Mime most importantly provides fast Healing Wish support, which is incredibly useful on this team as it features no hazard control, and, depending on the state of the opposing team, can be used to turn a team member like Pikachu, Silvally-Dragon, or Grapploct into a win-con. It can also switch into Psychic-types such as Beheeyem that offensively threaten the team, provides additional speed control, and checks Silvally-Dragon, Silvally-Poison, and other Silvally formes, all of which Pikachu struggles to take out from full health.

Lastly, Swords Dance Silvally-Dragon is an excellent wallbreaker that can greatly pressure bulky Pokemon like Throh and Musharna, paving the way for Pikachu to clean more easily, and can function as a secondary sweeper thanks to Flame Charge. Iron Head is used to apply further offensive pressure to Fairy-types like opposing Mr. Mime, Shiinotic, and Togetic that might try to prematurely end Silvally-Dragon's sweep.

SS PU Sand Stall:
Hey, so I built this and topped the PU Ladder with it. It's a pretty cool stall team that has a solid match-up against other stall teams due to Lapras being able to trap and kill a lot of opposing fat mons. I made an RMT for the team so Ill like that here . I did make some changes. Namely I changed Vespiquen with Vibrava in order to have a better Raichu match-up, and then made Lapras specially defensive and Pyukumuku physically defensive. But aside from that the RMT explains the function of each mon and the threats and possible replacements.

Importable:

I'll also leave the importable for the original version that contained Vespiquen, but I believe the Vibrava version is slightly superior
Version One with Vespiquen

Here are multiple versions of the same offense team. Falinks and Heatmor form a powerful breaking core. Falinks with a Choice Band has sheer power but is walled by a few pokemon like Gourgeist and Dusclops that Heatmor can tackle with its Wisp absorbing capabilities. Mr.Rime acts as the reliable Spinner and also a situational check to other special attackers like Rime/Mime depending on the set, while providing adequate offensive presence. This offensive Gourgeist provides a crucial check to Fighting-types while also serving as a lure to Mawile and Pawniard. Raichu is the cleaner that brings the slower pokemon in with Volt Switch; the Volt immunities are mostly covered through the pressures of Gourgeist and Rime. Finally, Crustle with Sturdy is an emergency check to any pokemon that gets out of hand as well as a dependable sweeper. This team can function without a Choice Scarf user because of the dual priority and Crustle's sturdy.

You can also switch the sets around on this team to make Crustle a hazards set and Falinks No Retreat. Gourgeist's spinblocking capabilities make it a handy stop to Rime even if it dies to Ice Beam, and Spikes chip can be very helpful for Raichu's Volt Switch. However, I have generally preferred saving Crustle for later in the game.

Here is a replay displaying the effectiveness of mixed Gourgeist and Sturdy Crustle.

(click on Raichu for importable)

Here's a team I used against Lockjaw for PU Kickoff built around Nasty Plot Knock Off Raichu. I chose to use this set because I realised that after Raichu knocks off type null's eviolite, it was able to kill it at +2 from full health with Focus Blast. This mon is really good but it tends to struggle against Palpitoad and Vibrava, although Knock Off helps it a lot against those two mons, so I decided to pair it with Silvally Grass. Silvally Grass is a great pivot that provides a Water Resist to the team and can defog on opposing Palpitoads really easily. I added Mr. Mime to that Squad because I needed something that could revenge kill Falinks and Crustle in addition to check quite reliably Dubwool. After that, I started thinking of a core that could handle both Physical and Special Silv variants so I chose to add Mawile and Type: Null to the Squad. Mawile also provided Stealth Rocks and Knock Off which are really nice Tools to have to make a bit of progress on opposing teams. Last but not least, we have Falinks that acts here as a Wallbreaker and a Revenge Killer thanks to its access to First Impression. Its goal is to weaken the opposing teams to allow Raichu to sweep more easily late game.

Quagg's specs raichu balance;

Team is something we came up with good friend of mine quagsgone and the team functions around Specs Raichu - Its given speed tier 350 means its faster than any non-scarf mon except persian which doesnt see much usage. Pairing this with two all around attackers silvally bug+mawile meaning huge amount of meta is covered by these. Null and Roselia works as defensive backbones to support and pilot for the offensive core where Hitmontop keeps spinning and toxicing ghost types on switch ins. You need to play carefully around offensive threats like Pawniard, No Retreat Falinks and Silvallys. This alone is one reasoning to have sleep powder on roselia to provide free turns and keep up the momentum. Most mons has "filler slot" to strech hit pool eg. Sleep powder on roselia to provide free switches, thunder punch on mawile to 1v1 mareanie, surf silvally bug to ohko stonjourner and depending spread to 2 or 3hko crustle and gain progress. Toxic+Spin hitmontop to pressure ghosts out and keep field clean and then double prio mach punch Top+Sucker Mawile to provide extra speed control.

Crustle Stack HO

This is a relatively standard, easy-to-use crustle stack hyper offense team that has seen success in tournaments and on the ladder recently. Most of the time, Crustle is the team's lead, setting up multiple layers of entry hazards against both offensive and defensive teams. Its bulk investment helps it tank several attacks from pokemon like palpitoad, while its speed investment allows it to creep fast pokemon like basculin after a +2 speed boost from weak armor. Nasty Plot Gourgeist serves as the team's main wincon, checking prominent pokemon such as falinks, leafeon, and dubwool while also adding needed spin blocking utility. Next, Mr. Rime serves as the secondary wincon and main stallbreaker, as most teams have no switch into Freeze Dry and Focus Blast at +2. Mr. Rime also provides a way of checking pokemon like glaceon and removes opposing entry hazards from the field. Basculin is the main wallbreaker that was added for physical power and immediate speed, while pawniard was added for punishing both defog users and sticky web teams, and removing certain ghost-types for mr rime. Lastly, Pikachu was added as the team's main revenge killer, offensive pivot, and "electric resist" as it is good at maintaining momentum and pressuring opponents with its Fake out + Extreme Speed combo.

Here are a few replays that showcase the team well:
