Project SS RU Next Best Thing - On break

Aquarius Ghost ❤

Banned deucer.
Hello everyone, ima back!!!!!
(sorry for making it longer than a week)
Anyway, our next poke that we are gonna tackle is...
:ss/suicune:
Suicune has been great bulky water in ru, with it being a setup sweeper that is able to stall out most of its checks.
However, Suicune struggles to keep up in the Ru tier due to Zarude being so common.
Let's find out what else this Pokemon can do.
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature

- Scald
- Protect

Reserving Curse Suicune
:bw/suicune:
CursedCune (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Waterfall
- Rest
- Sleep Talk / Body Slam

Curse Suicune! It doesn't get much simpler than that. This is basically standard CroCune flipped on its head, with Curse boosting your physical stats and the EV spread being tailored to max your SpDef while you boost up. Why is this a physical Suicune set, you ask? Well, because I'm AVGG. That's why. Anyways, here's some light set details:
Inner Focus is the ability for 2 reasons- for starters, it's the ability because it blocks Intimidate and prevents flinches, but it's also the only legal ability due to complications with move legality and such.
As for the moves, they're all pretty self-explanatory. Curse boosts your stats, Waterfall is your STAB attack, Rest is there to make Suicune as annoying as humanly possible, and the fourth move can be either Sleep Talk or Body Slam depending on whether you want to be able to do things while you sleep or hit Water-immune mons like Gastrodon & Seismitoad. Waterfall is chosen over Liquidation as a STAB move simply because it has more PP; if it weren't for PP differences then Liquidation would be the better option due to its higher base power and more useful secondary effect.
Leftovers are the chosen item for passive recovery, which helps Suicune set up and tank more hits. This is especially useful given that this Suicune set is almost always going to be moving last due to the Speed drop from Curse.

Suicune @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 16 SpA / 4 SpD / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Agility
- Calm Mind
- Hydro Pump / Scald
- Ice Beam

Slap some screens support. go for agility and CM hope they activate your policy and sweep. in screens you can actually beat Zarude and the electrics which is pretty good so you want screens support with this suicune with a ground like Rhyperior to check the electrics. a Grass like Zarude could also check the electrics. Gweezing can prevent status for this suicune set.

Suicune @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tailwind / Agility
- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind
Suicune's access to Tailwind with it's BNB move CM can make it a dangerous late game sweeper. Life Orb is here over something like leftovers as it maximizes it's offensive potential, Ice Beam is here for coverage, as it hits dragons and grasses like Noivern and Zarude. Surf can be used over hydro pump for the consistency. Agility would also be something you could go for.
You'll want something that can beat bulky waters that otherwise wall this set, so Zarude could pair well with it. Something for status could be considered as well, so a heal bell user like Sylveon could pair well with it as well.

Reserving Offensive Tailwind Suicune
Suicune @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tailwind
- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind
Tailwind is <<<<<<<<<<<< Agility unless you are in Doubles. Otherwise, Agility is stronger than the former option because it doesn't stop working unless you switch-out.

Mirror Coat Suicune

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 76 SpA / 164 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Mirror Coat
- Scald
- Ice Beam

General idea
Here we have a defensive Suicune with three attacking moves, one of which is Mirror Coat in order to severely damage special attackers unable o OHKO it.
Scald is a good STAB picked for the burn chance that is enough to prevent some careless switch-ins to some extent.
Ice Beam is here for coverage, whereas Mirror Coat is the key of this set because it allows to tank some powerful special moves while being able to get rid of the opposing threats. Suicune is suitable to use this move thanks to the high hp stat that makes possibile to tank some supereffective hits without dying.
Rest is mandatory as 4rth move because recovery is important in a set with Mirror Coat, and don't forget the possibility to get rid of Toxic.

EVs (spread) and item
76 SpA EVs are enough to ensure the kill on bulkless Noivern (thus getting rid of it immediately) and even invested Flygon:
  • 76 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 312-368 (100.3 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 76 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Flygon: 312-368 (100 - 117.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The remaining EVs spread is specially defensive oriented: now it can check a Thunder coming from Heliolisk. The preferred item is Leftovers for some passive recovery although HDB is also a good option.
  • 252 SpA Choice Specs Heliolisk Thunder vs. 252 HP / 164+ SpD Suicune: 336-396 (83.1 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Team(mates) support
Hazards control is mandatory because Suicune is hit by all hazards.
Wish support is appreciated if you want to use Mirror Coat more consistently.
Heal Bell support makes Rest more reliable as recovery move if you are able to fit into your team.

RoarCune
:ss/suicune:
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk / Calm Mind
- Roar

This is Suicune's other, somewhat less known, classic set. The idea is that Roar forces out Pokemon that can switch into Suicune usually, so Seismitoad, Gastrodon and Volcanion can gradually be worn down by Toxic Spikes or Spikes once you remove their Heavy-Duty Boots, and it helps against opposing setup sweepers, especially other Calm Mind users like Reuniclus. Sleep Talk would mostly be considered on stall teams to gradually stall out and wear down the opposing team completely, whereas Calm Mind is more useful for role compression when you have a cleric to remove sleep so don't need Sleep Talk.

Whirlpool Suicune

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Whirlpool
- Protect
- Toxic
- Scald / Ice Beam

Whirlpool is a great move to achieve chip damage on an opponent, to weaken them for something else on your team later on in the match. Protect gives you that extra turn of chip damage and recovery, whilst Toxic further enhances chip damage, and also gives you something against Gastrodon & Seismitoad. Last move is an attack, be it Scald for a STAB burn chance or Ice Beam to potentially hit Grass types (and those like Roserade which you won't poison).

yeah ik i just didnt want it to be too similar to ywt's
Being similar is a think, suboptimal another.

I think that Weakness Policy and Life Orb makes difference enough to make possible the existence of two different sets.

Weakness Policy forces Suicune to stay into the battlefield because the boost is lost upon switching-out, whereas Life Orb leaves the freedom to switch-in&out repeatedly giving up the extra power from WP.
This is already a huge difference in my opinion.

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Reflect
- Scald
- Rest

You can setup calm minds and do a lot of damage with modest scalds, and vs seismitoad you can pp stall. reflect makes sure it can take 2 hits from zarude. rest is for longevity and helps with pp stall turns

Suicune @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Hydro Pump/Surf
- Ice Beam
- Extrasensory/Toxic

lure that threat 3 attacks cune. hits a bunch of mons harder, stab water move hits quite hard vs a bunch of mons, people quite likely to send water absorb mon to check it, however u can then toxic it and put it on a timer for other mons on ur team that dont like it. also if running extrasensory, u can lure modest toxtricity (thats what the speed evs are for). ice beam hits noivern when u otherwise wouldn't and hits crobat and toge harder aswell as hitting zarude.

Aqua Pool Suicune
:ss/suicune:
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Whirlpool
- Aqua Ring
- Toxic
- Substitute/Snarl/Protect

This set turns suicune into a decent wall that you can rely on against offensive teams. The most hindering thing to suicune is a lack of reliable recovery outside of leftovers. This set fixes that. Introducing Aqua Ring+Whirpool Suicune! Specializing in beating defensive mons

Whirpool- your main source of reliable damage vs opposing pokemon. It can be really helpful in handling pokemon it's offensive partners cant break.
Aqua Ring- combined with leftovers gives it a good healing option. It can be esspecially useful in case your lefties get knocked off
Toxic- is basically another way of doubling down on pokemon with passive damage. Its esspecially useful alongside whirlpool which can do some nasty damage. It can also be used to ruin water immune such as gastrodon, seismitoad or volcanion.
Substitute- can wall pokemon like registeel, av reuniclus, status and help rack up damage with whirpool/toxic
Snarl- can beat special setup mons such as necrozma and potentially raikou if it switches in on a snarl
