Pyukumuku @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Block
- Recover
- Soak
- Toxic

Pyuku is the best thing we have as a counter to this, this set just walls kommo-o it takes all it's attacks with ease such as clanging scales and boomburst, and ignores the boosts via unaware. Once it blocks it can soak to weaken the clanging scales and toxic to beat it 1v1.

+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Unaware Pyukumuku: 91-108 (28.9 - 34.3%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Unaware Pyukumuku: 77-91 (24.5 - 28.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
Blacklisted mons or items: Pyukumuku, Shedinja

Thank you UrAverageHuman but yeah HydreigonTheChild pyukumuku is blacklisted due to its ability to heavily invest in one end of bulk or the other and KO back with counter/mirror coat. It also can do toxic stalll cheese and what not. It discourages creativity when finding Pokemon to slap a cheap answer every week. You will have to change your submission for this week. Luckily, there are still a few good options left, if you have any questions feel free to message me on discord.

Grimmsnarl (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 132 SpD / 124 Spe
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt
- Spirit Break

Grimmsnarl is a check to komm-o with its stab hitting kommo-o for 4x super effective damage, it can absolutely destroy it even at +1 defense. Grimmsnarl can just OHKO it back with spirit break or it can light screen up and just hit it on the next turn, and the worst case scenario, it at least gets a screen up for the teammates to more easily deal with it.

0 Atk Grimmsnarl Spirit Break vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Kommo-o: 208-252 (71.4 - 86.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 132+ SpD Grimmsnarl: 250-295 (63.4 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 132+ SpD Grimmsnarl through Light Screen: 125-147 (31.7 - 37.3%) -- 88.4% chance to 3HKO

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Stealth Rock
- Mystical Fire

This mf is a counter to soul kommo-o. With its high special bulk and typing Kommo-o can touch it while you KO back with moonblast.
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Diancie: 73-86 (24 - 28.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Diancie: 47-55 (15.4 - 18%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Diancie Moonblast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Kommo-o: 264-312 (90.7 - 107.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO (you guarantee kill since its at 2/3 health)

Now, its time to vote for this week! Checks and counters are down below
Checks
by Bandkrook
by Flare219 (moved this to checks as lack of reliable recovery, reliance on hurricane hitting, and straight up dying if it takes rocks makes it not really a counter)
jirachi big sprite.png
by Mygrein (going to be a hard check as if it switches in on flamethrower it gets 2HKOd)
by Codename Magnum (max spdef calm mind hatterene isnt really a set, if i change the spread to a more viable one it becomes a check instead)
by HydreigonTheChild
Counters
by TotomonGang
by Twilight
by UrAverageHuman
by Lolito
by Monky25
by BigFatMantis

You must vote for 2 checks and 2 counters this week. You CANNOT vote for yourself. I repeat, vote for 2 CHECKS and 2 COUNTERS this week! Voting ends Thursday, April 8 at 11:59 PM PST. My votes are..
Checks: Primarina and Hatterene
Counters: Sylveon and Kommo-o

Remember when there were only 3 counters last week? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Checks: Primarina and Jirachi
Counters: Kommo-o and Diancie

Just saying imo, grimm is a check not a counter, it takes far too much from boomburst to switch in and kill clanger. on the flip side, if it comes in safely, it can screen and kill in one fell swoop

Check: Primarina and Grimmsnarl (goltres if this isn’t accepted)
Counter: Diancie and Kommo-o

Voting time is over! For the checks, we have Bandkrook taking first place with a near unanimous vote while Codename Magnum taking a close second. Meanwhile, there was a tie between TotomonGang and Twilight for the counters, so I had to break the tier and give TotomonGang the win this time, as I feel sylveon represents the go-to Kommo-o counter more rather than soundproof kommo-o. Still, great job to the winners and all of those who submitted. Now, onto the next Victim!
:ss/Keldeo:
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Air Slash
- Flip Turn

This week we have Keldeo! Keldeo has shot straight up to the top of the tier, being the most menacing breaker out there. It absolutely annihilates teams with its choice specs set boosting its already high power attacks. Its high speed tier lets it outspeed Pokemon like Nihilego, Thundurus-Therian, and Kommo-o, being able to send them packing. Keldeo has been so dominant that some players think keldeo is broken to a degree. However, to asses that claim, we have to find the checks and counters to this guy. How will you take down keldeo? Submissions are due Tuesday, April 13 at 11:59 PM PST

Gyarados @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Power Whip

Gyarados's typing and good SpDef let it take up to 3 specs hydros from Keldeo, meaning it can switch in directly, but ideally you'd bring Gyarados after something else was KOed to set up DD. +1 Power Whip OHKOes and Bounce has a good chance of doing so without any boosts.
+1 252 Atk Gyarados Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 418-492 (129.4 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gyarados: 133-157 (40.1 - 47.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Draining Kiss
- Substitute

SubCM Primarina is a counter to Choice Specs Keldeo. Primarina can take minimal damage from any move Keldeo goes for, and can quickly turn it into set-up fodder. Primarina also recovers health with Draining Kiss, and KO Keldeo right back.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 117-138 (32.1 - 37.9%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 0 SpA Primarina Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 288-338 (89.1 - 104.6%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

CM (Codename Magnum) 3Attacks Raikou

:bw/Raikou:

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Scald
- Extrasensory

Raikou gets the absolute pleasure of being able to outspeed Keldeo AND eat a specs Hydro Pump from full, so why not capitilise? Set up a CM in it's face and OHKO the next turn, or just go for Tbolt immediately and get the 45% roll! Setting up just one Calm Mind can be incredibly dangerous, especially with Extrasensory meaning it isn't walled by Amogus.

Mantine as a counter

Mantine @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Roost
- Haze
- Defog / Toxic / Hurricane

Mantine is a fine pick atm because it's most likely one of the bests Keldeo counter that also checks some other dangerous threats like Aegislash, Chandelure and Scizor. The spread above gives a jump point in SpDef and allows it to avoid the 2hko from specs aegi while having enough phys def to take specs secret swords from Keldeo but it can be changed accordingly depending on what the team needs

Thundurus (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Thundurus is an offensive check to keldeo because it can switch into air slash or get safely put on the field by pivoting and threaten to ohko with thunderbolt.

252 SpA Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 312-368 (96.5 - 113.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Thundurus: 73-86 (24.4 - 28.7%) -- 99.5% chance to 4HKO

very surprising submission by me imo:

Azelf @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Energy Ball
- Fire Blast
- Psyshock

Azelf is a great offensive check to Keldeo. Pretty self-explanatory - after you get it in, it is faster and OHKO's with Psyshock. And if you are a super duper predict expert, you can even safely switch it in on a Secret Sword and KO it back. EZ

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD / 4 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
tentacruel is a great check to keld because ot only does it resist its stabs it can support its team by spin and the potentially game winning toxic spikes
the evs are for cruel to survive to survive 3 choice specs hydro pumps and most secret swords
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 248 HP / 160 Def Tentacruel: 118-140 (32.5 - 38.5%) -- 4.2% chance to 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Tentacruel: 105-124 (28.9 - 34.1%) -- 99.7% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery
while tentacruel may not be the most offensive mon it can sting keld decently hard
0 SpA Tentacruel Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 88-105 (27.2 - 32.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
nothing really wants to eat a burn or poison and the speed is able to outrun keld with 1 spin

Celebi @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Earth Power
- Recover

Celebi is a check to Keldeo. It is able to take any of Keldeo, attacks, even a Choice Specs Air Slash, and revenge KO it with Psychic (or Giga Drain if you get lucky or Keldeo has been chipped a bit). Since Celebi is not on the VR (yet!), see my Celebi post in the most recent NP thread for an explanation of why Celebi is viable in the current UU metagame and what other benefits it has.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Celebi: 244-288 (71.5 - 84.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Celebi Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 351-413 (108.6 - 127.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Celebi Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 289-343 (89.4 - 106.1%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

Tapu Bulu @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Wood Hammer
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge

This is one of the hardest CHECKS for keldeo as it can eat an hydropump or secret sword and just horn leech all of the life from that horse and when getting a free turn it is free to click edge or megahorn on predicted moltres/tangrowth.
(imagine using buzzwole or moongus, cring)

CALCS
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo in Grassy Terrain: 386-456 (119.5 - 141.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Bulu: 139-164 (49.4 - 58.3%) -- 67.2% chance to 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

Starmie is a super solid offensive check to Keldeo. Courtesy of Starmie's typing, it resists Keldeo's STABs and can even pivot into its attacks if it really needs to. It is able to outspeed Keldeo and KO it with coverage.
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 312-369 (96.5 - 114.2%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Starmie: 153-180 (58.6 - 68.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Make sure to write up your submissions by Tuesday April 13th at 11:59 PM PST for those who have reserved already

Noivern @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Hurricane
- Flamethrower
- U-turn
- Roost

Our lord and saviour from DLC 1 UU is back, being a really good offensive check to Keldeo. It outspeeds all of the unboosted/unscarfed metagame except Ribombee, which doesn't exist lol, it can easily stomach all moves except Hydro Pump which is a 2HKO and if you miss Hurricane you just die, but it can outstall the HPump pps with Roost if you have some luck with the rolls.

252 SpA Noivern Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 320-378 (99 - 117%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 160-189 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 124-147 (39.8 - 47.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
