Tournaments SSCL I - Commencement Thread

kinda want to share my opinions/rankings on the BDSP pool post-draft so ya here you go

24 Karat Kartanas :kartana:
Predicted Starter: paysa

While this team has some BDSP to it, it is very thin. Looking at the lineup I can really only expect paysa to start, and while they were no doubt enthusiastic about signing up when I was talking to them, they do also lack experience in the tier outside of last year's BDSPPL. Dex can potentially act a bit as support, though his poor performances during the last few BDSPPLs have me wondering just how valuable said support could be.

Loire River Slowpokes :slowpoke:
Predicted Starter: :wo: Lol you thought

Slowpokes basically hogged the BDSP players lmao. Me + Tbolt + Codex is a solid enough core for the majority of prep on its own, but if you're willing to toss in Lacks and Ainzcrad, two players who have had previous experience and decent results playing in BDSPPL, for testing purposes, you basically end up with a very knowledgeable and active core/support system for the BDSP slot. This might come across as biased considering I'm on this team but even if you were to remove me and leave Codex/Tbolt as the main core with the other two as potential testing support you'd still have a solid foundation for the BDSP slot. Probably the most solid BDSP core from a drafting standpoint.

Predicted Starter: Tuthur

Tuthur was the OG circuit champion and won BDSPPL II, as I have previously mentioned, and he is a plenty solid player from a fundemental standpoint. That being said, it's been a bit since he's participated in a BDSP tournament so there might need to be a bit of catching up to do in terms of meta development, which leaves him a bit of a question mark in terms of potential performance. I wouldn't be surprised if he did do well during this tournament, however.

Clash Corviknights :corviknight:
Predicted Starter: Skittyrox

Skitty is definitely one of the most up-to-date people on BDSP's meta and is an active builder and player who can perform well most of the time. That being said there seems to be a lack of solid support for Skitty amongst their teammates, which could make preparation and testing difficult.

Silver Flare Ahris :Ninetales:
Predicted Starter: ???

Looking at this draft I have legitimately zero clue who will be starting in the BDSP slot or who can even provide support here. There are some people who have played BDSP recently who could maybe fit into this slot but they either don't have experience in BDSP OU but rather its lower tiers or they have played some small amount of BDSP OU but don't actually build for themselves (to my knowledge). This was probably the result of how the auction unfolded, leaving all the major BDSP players snagged up by other teams, or because the team management didn't see this slot as a major concern. Maybe they could pull stuff off but I don't have high hopes, I can see this slot being swapped around a bit if the team can't find its footing quickly in this tier.

Twelvefret Toxtricity :toxtricity:
Predicted Starter: TyCarter

Carter's a solid tour player in general and has solid BDSP experience while also being tier leader. Having Scarf Kricetune as support can be quite helpful even if he isn't as knowledgeable about OU compared to the lower tiers, while jawabarat could perhaps chip in to help with testing when needed despite having even less BDSP OU experience. Having in-team support is huge though, as most teams lack a solid support system for their BDSP players.

Certified Lover Browts

Predicted Starter: Baddy

It's really just Baddy who can do the BDSP work for this team but he's basically the top player in the pool so I think that balances it out a considerable amount. Mada could perhaps help with testing as a manager since they have played in BDSPPL quite a bit and even won an edition, but that appears to be the only source of support that Baddy can count on from within the team.

Eishin Flash Cannons :magnezone:
Predicted Starter: sequoia
I mentioned in my shoutout post that sequoia clearly has the playing skills to do well in BDSP, but their building capabilities are unknown to me, particularly if they even build for themselves. That and a lack of real support alongside them (maybe Zoyotte, who I remember playing BDSP back in 2022/early 2023) leaves me not very optimistic about this team's BDSP prospects.

1. Loire River Slowpokes
2. Twelvefret Toxtricity
3. Certified Lover Browts
4. Clash Corviknights
5. RAAZ
6. Eishin Flash Cannons
7. 24 Karat Kartanas
8. Silver Flare Ahris

Really the main thing separating the top teams from the middle is the amount of in-team support they have, while the bottom two teams suffer from a very shallow or even non-existent BDSP draft.

Of course I could be wrong about these ranking and how the tour actually turns out, I'd perhaps be willing to revisit this at the end of the tour to see just how accurate it ends up being.
