Stall for lols

it's been AGES since i did my last RMT here on smogon. i was basically a noob when i did my last one, a lot of stuff has happened after that, including being blown away by the standard of play in the world cup (yes, i was in it. i subbed for oceania). anyways, let's just see how well this new team does.

team at a glance:

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge
---

kekeke. i use scarftar quite a lot and for good reason. the element of surprise lets me kill so many pokes. gengar, infernape, yanmega, forry, breloom and many more thinks it can stay in and either take the hit or OHKO me. well too bad for them cos the OHKOing is for me to do. i might give this guy more sp.atk EV's as i don't think it OHKO's breloom or mamo right now, but whatever. i was very tempted to use ice beam over stone edge because it kills gliscor and dragons. however, i have a slight gyara problem so i figured it'll be good for that.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Heal Bell
- Recover
- Perish Song
---

celebi's an amazing pokemon, it really is. this is my only true gyarados counter and it pisses me off when it flinches or freezes. should really do something about that. i love having a grass pokemon so i don't need to force one on something else just to beat swampert. heal bell's here a lot because my tenta carries rest. perish song has been really useful as a seudo-phazer. i wanted psychic for breloom but i figured i'll just deal with it this way. it also helps me kill that last poke that sticks around and helps me not get out stalled.

dpmfa472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Roost
- Stealth Rock
---

gliscor is one of those pokes that earned its place in OU by countering a lot of main threats. lucario, heracross, garchomp, DDmence, dragonite etc. are big threats that he takes care of. nothing insanely creative here.

dpffa242.png

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Ice Beam
---

wishbliss because i'm a stall team. everything here has impressive defenses but not everything can heal effectively so here we go. i chose protect over softboiled here because it helps with toxic spikes. there will be times where physical threats are poisoned and will be killed the next turn but as we all know bliss just can't take hits from the likes of machamp and heracross. the other moves are debatable. all the threats i wanted bliss to take care of were special (no shit nagai) so i didn't choose to get smart with grass knot or something and just went with the standard set. t-wave doesn't do too much on a stall team.

dpffa477.png

Dusknoir (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/76 Def/180 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Pain Split
- Shadow Sneak
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
---

hehehe here's another surprise. with heatran being such a common switch into dusknoir and with blissey issues on my team, i chose to make this guy a sub puncher. it would work better without the sandstorm because that means i can only get 4 subs in before healing but that's why i have wishbliss right? i chose shadow sneak over t-punch here because it's a better type duo and this is the only fast move of any sort on the team. i've seen quite a few reversal lucarios lately, and they just piss me off :P.

dpffa073.png

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP/86 Def/172 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Rest
- Surf
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
---

bwahahaha! who said tentacruel can't heal? rest talk to me was not an attractive option to me because then it won't spike or rapid spin effectively. surf over ice beam because this thing's my ape counter.

Threat list (top 50 weighted usage on shoddy):
  • Garchomp (49876251 points): gliscor, bliss if need be
  • Gengar (44568977 points): bliss, t-tar
  • Blissey (42519664 points): celebi's perish song, t-tar, dusknoir
  • Gyarados (40592306 points): celebi, t-tar revenge kill
  • Tyranitar (37828400 points): depends on what set. gliscor can take him without ice beam.
  • Lucario (33944857 points): gliscor
  • Bronzong (32637279 points): a bit of a problem. i usually bring in dusknoir.
  • Heatran (30712308 points): it'll prob die once it switches in on dusknoir :D. bliss and t-tar.
  • Starmie (28371705 points): bliss and t-tar
  • Infernape (26873830 points): tenta (hopefully it's not asleep). t-tar revenge kill.
  • Salamence (26319741 points): once again depends on the set. bliss can take the mixed and specs sets alright, gliscor can take dd.
  • Metagross (24777297 points): gliscor mainly, it is a worry with ice punch. t-tar revenge kill
  • Skarmory (23391114 points): t-tar mainly. it does give me problems on paper but celebi can perish song it and it's not like it'll sweep me anytime soon.
  • Gliscor (22915355 points): i usually just try to outstall it. tenta can surf it but i'll have to be aware of EQ.
  • Celebi (22668055 points): t-tar
  • Swampert (22145138 points): celebi
  • Forretress (20497243 points): t-tar can fire blast it, but it is a bit of a worry since it could get stroked on the switch.
  • Heracross (17932082 points): gliscor
  • Weavile (17751011 points): uh oh, i didn't see this one. i'll prob try switching around trying to toxic kill it. t-tar can revenge kill it.
  • Azelf (17651515 points): t-tar, bliss
  • Cresselia (17037326 points): t-tar
  • Zapdos (16831168 points): t-tar
  • Togekiss (15359289 points): bliss, t-tar
  • Snorlax (14264209 points): dusknoir mainly
  • Breloom (14092526 points): celebi
  • Jirachi (14075339 points): really not too worried about this thing. t-tar can EQ it, dusknoir can set up on it.
  • Hippowdon (13185778 points): celebi
  • Vaporeon (12844302 points): celebi
  • Dusknoir (12614214 points): anything that can hit it enough times :P
  • Electivire (12594343 points): i haven't seen this thing in ages. i don't have an elec move on the team, so it'll probabl take a few hits on the switch etc and die that way. celebi and gliscor could do well.
  • Machamp (11973392 points): gliscor, celebi
  • Mamoswine (11521840 points): celebi mainly. t-tar can fire blast it.
  • Magnezone (11357569 points): bliss
  • Yanmega (11048579 points): bliss hera may do well enough once smething's asleep.
  • Milotic (10937618 points): celebi
  • Dragonite (10301846 points): gliscor.
  • Jolteon (10182545 points): t-tar, bliss
  • Porygonz (9957298 points): bliss
  • Scizor (9790695 points): gliscor
  • Suicune (9587929 points): celebi
  • Tentacruel (9368194 points): not really a threat. take care of toxic spikes and that's it.
  • Ninjask (9084846 points): pssh like that matters. anything with an attack? :P
  • Wobbuffet (9069687 points): t-tar after something's killed.
  • Dugtrio (9067375 points): celebi
  • Donphan (8396931 points): celebi
  • Gallade (7947590 points): celebi can deal with it well enough if it doesn't carry x-scissor.
  • Deoxys-e (7197470 points): dusknoir
  • Alakazam (7104123 points): bliss, dusknoir
  • Kingdra (6850702 points): t-tar can come as long as it's not using waterfall and get rid of rain dance. it is a bit of an issue, but with toxic spikes, i can deal with it.
  • Roserade (6753589 points): bliss.
looks like metagross is the boggest problem. apart from that i'm weak to walls. oh not walls :kongler:. perish song is great for that.

If there's one pokemon that completely destroys you, it's DDTar. A set with say DD/ Crunch/ EQ/ Ice Beam (Which is a suggested set on the analysis) will rip your team to pieces if it gets off a DD, which isn't the hardest thing to do when facing this team. A machamp or Hairyama would fix this but alas, no real room. A skarmory could probablly phaze it away, so that could be another option to look into.

Also that Blissey moveset reaks of setup fodder. To that end, (and since it is a Stall team) I would put Toxic somewhere on it since Toxic can hit flying types aswell and doesn't require setup unlike Toxic Spikes.

One more thing, you might want to fix up your threat list abit, as I'm pretty sure Dusknoir won't enjoy asorbing Night Slashs (esp after a Swords Dance).

Hope that helped!

might replace duknoir with skarm then. and woops about the gallade thing :P

dusknoir is not really helping this team all that much, the whole suprising heatran thing is kinda redundant, your blissey should handle it well enough.

None of your team can really switch into Mamoswine and relying on a CSTyranitar to cover a very prominent Weavile weakness is very risky.
As you suggested Skarmory would be a good replacement over Dusknoir to cover this problem.

Tyranitar won't be revenge-killing any Weaviles; Weavile is faster and can KO with Brick Break. If he's locked into CB Ice Punch that's still dealing a hefty 60+%. So yeah, big Weavile weak! Skarmory seems like the best fit as he solves most your current problems (DDtar, Mamoswine, Weavile, Metagross) but if you were to replace Dusknoir then you'd be losing your ever-important spin blocker. It might be worth considering to replace Gliscor for Skarmory and Dusknoir for Spiritomb. 'Tomb can counter SDLuke fairly well (at worst Tar can revenge kill non Bulet Punch variants) but Hera will force you to make some important predictions which is a little worrisome with all those Toxic Spikes lying around. The other problem is you'd be using a near mirror image of Obi's stall team!

i'll be honest with you lee, i don't really want to stick spiritomb in there because then i'll be getting a million "obi's team! you unoriginal fucker!" comments. it definitely wouldn't be the first time <_<. anyways, i replaced dusknoir for spikes skarm.
