Yes, but using a Choice Scarf isn't "cheating" to trick your opponent into breaking any rules.

Here you are trying to use circular logic to prove that it is an unfair thing to do...something that doesn't actually work.
I agree that doing it is being somewhat of an asshole, but I ultimately agree with Firestorm, in that it is your own fault for not checking, and making assumptions.
I don't believe anyone claimed that you should be disqualified for using Tyranniboah when it was first made by saying that it wasn't fair to trick Blissey into coming in so that you can sub and then f-punch it....

The whole point of sleep clause is to prevent the sleep status from being abused. As a general rule, the spirit of the clauses is to prevent abuse, not for giving another method of victory.

To use an analogy, the sleep clause is not to be treated like a ring out in a fighting game.

Yes, by the letter of the rule it is a violation. But remember that all clauses are to be agreed upon by the participants. So one can argue just as we agree not to abuse the sleep status, we are agreeing not to abuse the clause.

The clauses are a means to an end. If that end isnt being met, then the clause itself is pointless.

Exactly. Here is my perspective. Sleep Clause is used to prevent "cheap kills". To make the game interesting so that people don't abuse attacks like Spore and so forth.

I mean yeah, there are _always_ ways around the rules. But if we are all just going to go for the cheap "default win" instead of utilizing sleep clause to create have full blown exciting battles where the winner wins by the skin of his teeth...... then whats the point of the sleep clause in the first place?

Sleep clause is supposed to make the game more exciting, not more tedious. We are here to make a game, not to become lawyers awarding wins on technicality because of self-imposed clauses in a game.

If something gets put to sleep from an EffectsSpore say from my Breloom.
Is it still legal for me to Spore a pokemon switching in?

I would say no. And at the topic, as firestorm has been saying, it's part of the mind games, to know what they have. With this now you should never double sleep against a pokemon that can potentially not have natural cure or in the instance of Blissey, may have another preferred trait. You should discover what they have first.

Also if you sleep a pokemon, then sleep an incoming lum berry holder are you violating sleep clause?

These kinds of things are up to a Tournament Director, who, if they're remotely competent, is not going to DQ one way or another because of this.

In a standard Competitor battle, sleep clause will be enforced via software, so this isn't a point anyway.
