STATMONS

In Statmons, teams are built around a single base stat (HP, Atk, Def, SpA, SpD, or Spe), and only Pokemon with a base stat exceeding 100 (>100) in that category are eligible for use.

For example,
Pokemon
:houndstone:
:samurott-hisui:
:garchomp:
:ogerpon:
:lokix:
:kingambit:
Atk
101
108
130
120
102
135
All pokemon on this team have an Attack stat higher than 100. This is an Attack team.

FAQs
Q: Can a single Pokemon be used on multiple stats?
A: Yes, Pokemon are not restricted to a single stat. For instance, Kingambit may be used on HP and Defense teams.

Q: Is Tera Blast legal?
A: No.

Q: Can I use Dragonite on my SpA team?
A: No you can't! Dragonite has exactly 100 SpA, and Pokemon must have more than 100 in the relevant stat to qualify for a Statmons team.

You'd think I'd be prepared for this. Absolutely not. Hi! Here's some thoughts I been thinking on for a while.

I'm so glad we went with ≥100. 100 is such a common "throwaway" stat, sure most of these 'mons aren't going to be super relevant, like nobody's running Calyrex on HP or whatever but like, the options are seriously wider open for a lot of these stats. DEF gets stuff like Iron Crown, Scizor, and even if you push it a bit higher, stuff like Ursaluna and Mandibuzz. SpDef gets Clodsire, Ceruledge, TTar, and Dragonite, and that's all at 100. HP gets Kingambit as the OP says, but also stuff like Palafin and Rillaboom.

We're not going to have a meta I think where two or three stats are irrelevant, Ocean shared a legit "oh that could just be an OU team" paste that works for SpDef but like, it's just HO Veil. These stats aren't pigeonholed into like, "wow DEF must be physdef stall with Hoodra as your only SPDEF wall", there's a lot of options and I think there'll be some surprising depth in what some of these stats will create.

I think every stat is viable, but I think even if you disregard all of the doubled up 'mons on the sheets and the Ubers, I think any team I'm going to use is going to need some means of handling the ATK beatstick teams. Look how much goodstuff is on that stat. You don't even need to rely on fully offensive teams there, LandoT+Treads+OgerW is a pretty solid defensive core to support your IVals/Meows/Pults/whatever. Don't even need to bring along Grimm screens.

HP Stall kinda gets everything it wants, though, no? Alo, Bliss/Chans, Dozo, Dirge, Clod, Suicune, Apple, Reuni, Hippo, Mandi, STail, Cress, prob more I'm missing, even a few "5 stall and a sweeper" options like both Ursas Tusk Kyu(can be stall too!) Bolt Exca Chomp Goug, others probably.

I dunno. I'm excited for this.

Funny thing I decided to look through, every pokemon above ZU that is banned by lack of stats:
:Clefable::Oricorio-pom-pom:+other formes :Quagsire::Klefki::Thwackey:(who cares tho):cramorant-gorging::Qwilfish:/:Qwilfish-hisui::Kingdra::Venomoth: as well, I counted 34 ZU mons who'd also be banned

Pretty sure the only notable losses are Clefable and Kingdra, meaning no more bulky support who eats knocks for breakfast (instead now you have to use Gliscor on defense teams) and no swift swimming dragon for rain (though rain is debatably just dead anyways). Quag is kind of unfortunate but dozo and skele are still their for HP and Def.

Some other notable things (to me) i saw while scrolling, Webs is on every stat besides HP and Def but the only options for the attacking stats are :Leavanny: for physical and :vikavolt::Masquerain: for special, which is rough compared to speed having :Ribombee::galvantula:. I myself enjoy screens, so its fun to see that :dragapult::Zamazenta::deoxys-speed: are able to basically encompass every stat, dragapult prolly being the best of them for being in the attacking stats and speed, though there is also :Grimmsnarl: for attack though he's less splashable and more one note than the others. Also I think most of the mythicals are funny for them just being able to be in literally any team, too bad half of them are pretty much doo doo garbage.

Lastly a team I made:https://pokepast.es/c3aa13644d1c8af1 note that I'm not a good ou builder whatsover

dropping some quick teams I made for this brand new metagame, for each stat I made one team.
1782562436666.png
I made mostly offense teams, so if you want to play some slower placed balances, ur out of luck. I dont expect these teams to be really perfect right now but it looks viable enough.
HP is bound to be Fat purely due to the distribution of mons this is probably one of the more proactive variations ur gonna get out of it with MixKyu as the star of the team.
Attack is gonna be a pretty flexible one, I went with a nice and easy HO where I literally just took an old OU sample team and changed like 2 mons.
Defense also seems to be one of the stats where you can go a lot of routes, I just really wanted to use Iron Crown and went with quick paced offense with a triple fighting offensive core.
For Spatk u really always gonna go Gholdengo, I chose to abuse Webs but you can also go with some nice AV Samu Ghold type of stuff for spatk. Got a lot of fun mons on this one with the surprise lando and battle bond gren.
In SDef we got a pretty normal OU Sun team but we lost Wake, good thing you are gonna have fun clicking fire moves with moth instead. SDef can probably go with a more normal bulky offense approach with Hatt Zama Dnite Heatran and the gang
Speed is definitely gonna be completely all out offense just like you see on this one, I expect this type of screens to be face of most Speed teams.

Even though right now this might look like some boring pre tblast ban OU with a slight twist, I think this meta will evolve as soon as each stat will have known teams and stats will try to counterstyle each others matchups then. It will forever look like a regular OU meta at a glance I think unless there is a decision on trying to change the identity of STATmons. That being said its not really your typical UM since it very closely resembles standard play unlike most other tiers but I think with some time it can turn out to be a fun metagame for the builders among us to really max out the potential of these archetypes.

have fun everyone :D

can we ban terablast, blast kyurem blast dnite blast pult blast drill in formats where you can no longer diversify your walls well feels like a terrible idea. gambit bolt honorable mentions. played a couple of test games with jacob zio and the gang and usually it mirrored ou a ton but the flippiness of tera blast is much more felt when you pick the "wrong defensive stat" to spec into. games are a lot quicker than ou, lot of focus ends up on trading efficiently for whatever your type of preference is. things kinda get a bit stale but its cool otherwise, a lot of archetypes just naturally fit well because of mon stats, feels like a second monocolour tbh.

im out of the tour some of the teams I used minus the webs one I deleted in one of the earlier games. Then a few others I was planning on using.

We should ban Tera Blast for starters, this one is really a no brainer. Can bring Eleki back after that, it's only gonna work as a screen setter and tbh most archetypes got better ones.

Afterwards we should field test /ds Stat>104 as a possible benchmark maybe even Stat>109 but admittedly the second one might be pushing it, needs some labbing and research. For those that aren't totally aware this how I built most of my stuff on PS main and it makes 105 and 110 the benchmarks for teams instead of the blanket 100. Subjectively this meta is kind of boring because it's just way too similar to OU (and I already dont like SV OU so lol...). The theory behind the meta is pretty unique but the problem is that in this gen stuff is so min/maxed already that you have a lot of mons hitting this 100 benchmark quite easily. In a lot of cases they're hitting this on 3 or more stats as well, Gambit for example hits the first 3 stats, Valiant is another that even with an increase threshold would still fit on 3 teams up until 117. I understand if people are not too psyched to upheave the format just a thought so things dont feel so sameish.

Looks like this is going to be a real tier with the option to build and challenge in it, so I thought I'd give my thoughts:

:dragonite:
This mon is absolutely ridiculous. Dnite's set variety is hard enough to answer in svou, but this becomes straight up impossible with the limited team selection and access to tera blast. Flying blast, fairy blast, tera ground eq, and even just regular ekiller are far too strong to be allowed here since :corviknight: is limited to defense teams and :clefable: can't be used at all. Given that Dnite can be put onto ATK, SPA, and SPD teams, this mon just needs to go.

:kyurem:
I initially thought this would be the same as dnite, but it isn't all that difficult to manage. All 6 team archetypes have reasonable answers, and there isn't much of a need to answer it long-term because of the teams it's limited to only HP, ATK, and DEF. Just about anything can be given an AV and act as a short term kyurem answer.

:zamazenta:
Honestly, za is also not as bad as I thought. ATK and SPA teams have access to lando+ghost type to counter it, and the rest aren't really worried about the dog. It's good to have as a glue mon but isn't offensively oppressive, I think this is definitely something that should stay.

:kingambit:
Broken for the same reasons as dnite. While options such as tera dark and fire are good, tera fairy blast definitely pushes it over the edge. Since it fits on HP, ATK, and DEF, there are few limitations placed on it. If tera blast were to be banned, I could see this not being broken, but as it stands, there is no reasonable way to fit a kgb counter onto every team.

The tournament came to an end, here are all the teams I built:
1789994981677.png
The one with an (s) at the end indicates that it's a sample I got from SV OU thread and I replaced Great Tusk with Landorus-T. It was fun playing this tier. On a tiering note, I agree with
Afterwards we should field test /ds Stat>104 as a possible benchmark maybe even Stat>109 but admittedly the second one might be pushing it, needs some labbing and research.
The 100 threshold feels too light and I would argue that 105 would make the tier feels less like OU. In the teams above, Iron Crown (Def), Samurott-Hisui (SpA), Moltres (Atk), Garganacl (Atk), Dragonite (SpA) would need to be replaced. I think it would help the tier and some stats like Def and SpD which are not really crowded compared to Atk and SpA. There are still a lot of options for Stat>=105. Of course, the tier would change a lot with such a change, but considering it is only the start, it seemed like a good patch. Tera would need to be discussed after, as limiting the pool of Pokemon for every stat limits the answers one can have in a team. Moreover, having less mixed offensive Pokemon in SpA and Atk would make Def and SpD more viable, as well as Spe, while not making this tier feels like Rock Paper Scissors.

News time

ecxdee and Maxomega have been added to council. Welcome aboard! a fairy has decided to step down, thank you for all your contributions.

following a unanimous council vote, Tera Blast has been banned from Statmons. Regieleki has been unbanned. Additionally, the threshold number has been changed from ≥100 to simply >100. Meaning, let's say, Tauros can no longer be used on Attack teams because its Attack doesn't exceed 100. We voted on Kingambit too but ultimately decided not to ban it.

Tera Blast has been banned for pretty much the same reasons as svou. It places too much strain on the teambuilder in a format where teams are already restricted to a small pool of mons. It's unrealistic to expect teams to account for every possible Tera Blast user, and if you don't, it's very easy to get blown up on preview. Kingambit, Dragonite, Kyurem etc have all proved to be problematic in this regard.

Raising the threshold is an attempt to make the stat pools slightly more distinct. A large number of mons naturally hit 100 and many people have been finding statmons too similar to standard ou in practice. We discussed 105 as well but felt it might narrow the pool too heavily. >100 makes titans like Dragonite and Kingambit less splashable across multiple stats. We're down to revisit this down the line, but for now I hope this change makes the format more enjoyable than before.
