With Curse boosting Steelix's mediocre Attack stat and raising its Defense stat to unseen levels, this set has the potential to wreak havoc upon your opponents. Gyro Ball is for STAB and is powered up by both the Attack boost and the Speed cut Curse provides. Earthquake is there as a secondary STABed attack and is a must because it hits almost everything for good damage after an Attack boost. Finally, Explosion is a last a resort move to take out just about anything not resisting or immune to it. Stone Edge can replace any of the moves listed above and, when paired with Earthquake, it provides the classic Rock-Ground combo we all love.

The boosts Curse provides allow Steelix to forgo EV investment in Defense. It is recommended to just max HP and Special Defense with a boosting nature in hopes of making Steelix more durable from the Special side. Remaining EVs can be dumped into Attack to add a little punch to Steelix's moves.

The item choice depends on what you prefer, Occa Berry stops Fire attacks from ruining Steelix's sweep, while Leftovers provides a nice steady amount of health recovery during set up. Other options include Chople Berry to take on the numerous heavy hitting Fighting-types that frequent UU and, to a lesser extent, Passho Berry to combat the Water-types who will no doubt switch in to threaten an end to Steelix's sweep.

Steelix with Curse and Chesto Berry is a big threat to any team, which usually takes it out slowly. Curse boosts its Attack and incredible Defense sky-high, whilst lowering its Speed to maximize Gyro Ball's power. Rest in conjunction with Chesto Berry means you effectively get a free HP restoration, as well as ridding yourself of any status. If the opponent slowly decreases Steelix's HP, Steelix can just Curse until it needs to Rest, and then effectively rip through teams with its stat boosts.

The EVs prioritize HP and Special Defense, to maximise any chance of Steelix living through special hits, due to it not boosting Special Defense. A non-boosted Timid Ninetales can only manage a maximum of 90% with its Fire Blast, meaning that whatever happens, it loses - if it decides to Hypnosis you, the Chesto Berry will kick into action so you can Earthquake it. With the particular Fire Blast never OHKOing, if Ninetales does Fire Blast you can just OHKO it. This Steelix works excellently at taking out common answers to it, such as Ninetales and Sandslash.

Thanks have a nice day ^^.

Special thanks to Twash for writing the Curse + Chesto set above.

Roar Goes Pretty good with the curse set. I run Curse,Gyro ball, EQ and Roar works pretty good with spikes support. Pump spdef EVs and Crunch could be an option For Claydols expecting EQs, Gyro Ball even hits them decently after a curse or two minus speed nature of course heres a calculation for plus 1 crunch on max max claydol after one boost max attack on Steelix. Also sorry for my terrible punctuation.

+1 Crunch
Damage: 47.22% - 55.25%

:nerd: maybe expert belt?

Just to let you know I am testing a Curse / Rest / Gyro Ball / Earthquake @ Chesto Berry set too. I always loved using Chesto + Rest. Will edit in what I think once done (taking ages to find UU matches).

Ice Fang and Stone Edge are mediocre options to consider. Otherwise what you've mentioned is what I've used.

I've used:

Steelix @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy nature (+SpD, -Spe)
~Curse
~Rest
~Gyro Ball
~Earthquake

It's been awesome. Heck, it takes 76.27% - 89.83% from non-boosted Ninetales Fire Blast. If your full HP + Chesto, Ninetales comes in and will lose if non-boosted. Chesto keeps you safe from Hypnosis. It's worked great so far! It's really quite useful.

EDIT: Here is a log of it in play for any doubters. I have tried the other sets, but I prefer this one. Don't ask why - I just do. (I always loved ChestoRest anyway :P). Bolded parts = most important.

If you want to do 2 sets perhaps? I'm willing to write up this one :]

Unfortunately, according to Doug's stats for UU, a plurality (45.1%) of Ninetales have Life Orb, which boosts Fire Blast to an 87% OHKO.

I'm liking the ChestoRest combo Twash. You're more than welcome to write it up separately if you want then we can just edit it in the op.

To be honest Umb I'm not too sure about a RestTalk set just because you lose too much coverage if you don't pack EQ. But I'll be sure to give the set a try.

Thanks have a nice day ^^.

In OU I've extensively used Curse, Rest, Gyroball, and Firefang with Chesto 252 HP and 252 SpD with SpD boosting nature.

I just think you should put Fire Fang as an option because it gets rid of Scizor and other steels, especially the levitating ones.

There's no need to bother with Scizor in UU though, which is where Steelix is right now. Fire Fang should only get a mention in Other Options really.

Yeah, Gyro Ball does not have enough PP to pull that kind of a set off...and it's also a Steel-type move.

I do like the Chesto Rest idea. There are so many sets that are equally as viable on Curselix, but none of them really stand out as the best. Making a set for the analysis is going to be kinda tough, so I'll help you out: move1 is Curse. There! thats 25% of the work!! :D

Aqua Tail and Payback would probably hit Claydol harder than Crunch would.

Also, I don't see much use of Rest on a Curser TBH. Usually it's designed to switch in on a resist, Curse when the Opponant switches and fire off something strong. Steelix lacks anything to hit Leafeon and other Roarers with, and it's too slow to Roar them back.

I'd say
~Curse
~Aqua Tail / Payback
~Gyro Ball
~Earthquake

Aqua Tail and Earthquake are hitting Ninetales hard on the swtch if you EV it offencively anyway. I see your biggest threats being Leafeon and Weezing.

Steelix with Curse and Chesto Berry is a bit threat to any team which usually takes it out slowly. Curse boosts its Attack and incredible Defense sky-high, whilst lowering its Speed to maximise Gyro Ball's power. Aqua Tail from what I've used it is better for the Choice Band set. Ice Fang or Stone Edge work best alongside Steel / Ground combo, preffereably Stone Edge.

I personally don't like Curse Steelix at all. I prefer my Curse users to have good special defense (Snorlax, Slowking) but whatever. Servant, for the item, I would suggest that the options be Occa berry / Chople Berry / Leftovers and a mention of Shed Shell in Other Options if you are worried about Probopass since you can't Roar it out on the predicted Magnet Rise like the standard set can. Also, I don't have any stats to back this up, but I've seen a good number of people run the Passho Berry (water resist) on Steelix. Since it seems popular, I think it would be appropriate for the analysis to include a sentence or two on why the Passho Berry is a poor choice for Steelix since it can't do anything to bulky waters after it has taken the Surf. With an Occa is can survive the fire attack from Ninetales / Camerupt and OHKO back with Earthquake. It doesn't work that way on bulky waters. A small note of this would be nice to end the use of the Passho Berry on Curse Steelix because it is terrible.

Suggesting Explosion as a possibility somewhere (maybe not a main option, but it's viable), as with a +Sp. Def nature it can take one of just about anything, and a +1 Explosion will hurt if you're out of options. Or just use it as a last-ditch after you've already killed something.

Thanks everyone anyways updated the OP with the standard 3 moves Curse Steelix set. Thanks again have a nice day ^^.

Just about the only thing Curse Rest Sleep Talk Steelix has going for it is there is no pokemon immune to steel, unlike our common OU single attack boosters like Suicune/Swampert.

I love the Chesto Rest set, what is really disappointing about Steelix is his low attack stat, which is compensated with Curse, but he would be forced out in OU.

I used a crocune-like set,

252 HP / 252 Sp. Def / 4 Def.
Sassy.
0 Speed.
@ Occa Berry.
- Curse.
- Rest.
- Sleep Talk.
- Curse.

Works pretty well :) I used it together with ScarfTrio and Magnezone, to rid of of those Heatrans/Scizors and other things that counter it.
