[OVERVIEW]

Steelix carves a niche in the RU metagame with its ability to check physically offensive threats such as Tyrantrum thanks to its colossal Defense and solid defensive typing that grants it resistances to Normal, Rock, Steel, and Dragon. A 4x resistance to Stealth Rock combined with Leftovers allows Steelix to easily preserve Sturdy and act as an emergency check to threats such as Salazzle. However, a lack of reliable recovery means Steelix is easily worn down when switching into repeated attacks. Unlike other Steel-types such as Bronzong and Registeel, Steelix lacks a resistance to Ice or Grass, requiring teams to find other checks to Ice- and Grass-types. Additionally, Steelix's weakness to common types such as Water, Fighting, and Fire, poor special bulk, and relatively low Attack leave it exploitable by prominent threats such as Mega Blastoise, Shaymin, and Bewear.

[SET]
name: Tank
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Heavy Slam
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Sturdy
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Stealth Rock enables Steelix to pressure opposing Pokemon with residual damage. Heavy Slam is Steelix's primary STAB move and allows it to hit Pokemon such as Florges and Diancie. Earthquake hits opposing Steel-types such as Metagross as well as hitting Fire-types such as Ninetales and Arcanine on the switch. Toxic allows Steelix to cripple bulky Water-types such as Mega Blastoise, Seismitoad, and Mantine, which would otherwise take advantage of it.

Set Details
========

Investment in HP and Defense enhances Steelix's ability to check physical attackers like Tyrantrum. Leftovers provides Steelix with passive recovery and a way to regain Sturdy. Sturdy guarantees Steelix will survive at least one hit, allowing it to reliably set Stealth Rock or attack threats such as Salazzle.

Usage Tips
========

Bring Steelix in against Pokemon it can check such as Tyrantrum in order to set Stealth Rock, but keep in mind that Steelix needs to stay relatively healthy in order to beat them. Preserve Sturdy when possible, as it allows Steelix to guarantee the removal of threatening sweepers such as Salazzle, Houndoom, and Barbaracle. Cripple bulky Water-types such as Mega Blastoise and Mantine with Toxic on the switch.

Team Options
========

Steelix works best on defensive teams thanks to its solid role compression. It appreciates Pokemon that can handle bulky Water-types such as Roserade and Shaymin. Entry hazard removers such as Mantine and Mega Blastoise can clear hazards for Steelix, limiting its tendency to get worn down. Both of these Pokemon also appreciate Steelix's ability to check Electric-types such as Raikou. Clerics such as Florges and Vaporeon have the ability to heal Steelix with Wish. Florges also has the ability to check Fighting-types such as Bewear thanks to its Fairy typing.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Gyro Ball with a Brave nature can be used instead of Heavy Slam to take advantage of Steelix's low Speed but fails to hit opposing slow Pokemon such as Florges for significant damage. Curse can be used to increase Steelix's offensive presence and make it harder to KO, allowing Steelix to better deal with Pokemon such as Metagross.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-types**: Mega Blastoise, Mantine, and Feraligatr can easily switch into Steelix's attacks and force Steelix out. However, they dislike switching into Toxic. Other Water-types such as Refresh Milotic, Seismitoad, and trapper Araquanid do not mind switching into Toxic, though.

**Special Attackers**: Powerful special attackers such as Salazzle, Ninetales, and Houndoom are able to easily KO Steelix once Sturdy is broken. Mega Ampharos is especially notable because it can OHKO Steelix through Sturdy with Mold Breaker Focus Blast. None of these special attackers are able to safely switch into Steelix, however.

**Grass-types: Shaymin and Virizion are able to easily switch into Earthquake and deal massive damage to Steelix. Roserade and Mega Abomasnow can also deal significant damage to Steelix but are unable to switch into Heavy Slam.

**Fighting-types**: Bewear and Machamp can OHKO Steelix if Sturdy is broken, and Bewear is able to switch into Heavy Slam thanks to its ability Fluffy.

hello amcheck here, implement what you agree with
[OVERVIEW]
  • Steelix carves a niche in the RU metagame due to its ability to check threats such as Stakataka and Tyrantrum thanks to its solid defensive typing and colossal base 200 Defense stat.
  • However, a lack of reliable recovery means Steelix is easily worn down.
  • Additionally, Steelix's weakness to common types such as Water, Fighting, and Fire as well as its poor Special defensive stats leave it exploitable by prominent threats such as Blastoise-Mega, Shaymin, and Bewear.
this section is a bit barebones. add a bullet on it not resisting ice or grass which makes building w it different than other steels like zong, mention its weak attack making it a lot more exploitable, add onto how easy it is to wear down, and mention sturdy being easy to keep thanks to its x4 resistance to rocks which makes it a good emergency check to stuff like salazzle or dd zyg. expand on its defensive typing too.

[SET]
name: Tank
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Heavy Slam
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Toxic / Curse
item: Leftovers
ability: Sturdy
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 72 Atk / 184 SpD

48 atk evs and an adamant nature secure ohkos on swellow and honch after rocks and a round of lo dmg and 50% chance to ohko rose after sr + lo. id probably replace the set spread, or at least mention this spread on set details

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Heavy Slam is Steelix's primary STAB move and allows it to hit Pokemon such as Florges and Diancie.
  • Earthquake allows Steelix to hit opposing Steel-types such as Stakataka and Metagross, as well as hitting Fire-types such as Ninetales and Arcanine on the switch.
  • Toxic allows Steelix to cripple bulky Water-types such as Blastoise-Mega, Seismitoad and Mantine who would otherwise take advantage of it.
  • Curse can be used to increase Steelix's offensive presence as well as make it harder to KO. mention what pokemon it lets it beat
Set Details
========
  • Investment in HP and Special Defense EVs enhance Steelix's overall bulk.
  • 72 Attack EVs enable Steelix to guarnteed an OHKO on Toxicroak after Stealth Rock damage. update this for the new spread (if the spd helps it in any specific calcs mention it here too)
  • Leftovers provides Steelix with passive recovery and increase its longevity. mention it helps it regain sturdy too
  • Sturdy guarantees Steelix to survive at least one hit, allowing it to reliably set Stealth Rock or attack. add examples of mons it helps check
Usage Tips
========
  • Bring Steelix in against Pokemon it can check in order to set Stealth Rock. pokemon like...? expand on this and mention it needs to stay relatively healthy to beat them
  • Preserve Sturdy when possible as it allows Steelix to guarentee the removal of threatening sweepers such as Salazzle, Houndoom, and Barbaracle.
  • Cripple Bulky Water-types such as Blastoise-Mega and Mantine with Toxicto on the switch.
  • add a point about not playing it too recklessly cause no recovery
  • how are you supposed to use curse? against what does it set up? what does it help it beat? ect

Team Options
========
  • Steelix works best on defensive teams thanks to its solid role compression. this seems a bit vague - expand on this point
  • Steelix appreciates Pokemon who can handle Bulky Water-types such as Roserade, Shaymin, and Rotom-C.
  • Hazard removers such as Mantine and Blastoise-Mega can clear entry hazards for Steelix, limiting its tendency to get worn down. Both of these Pokemon also appreciate Steelix's ability to check Electric-types such as Raikou
  • Clerics such as Florges and Umbreon have the ability to heal Mega Steelix with Wish. The former of which also has the ability to check Fighting-types such as Bewear thanks to its Fairy typing. this is regular steelix. fix this and also mention vaporeon as a wishpasser

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Gyro Ball with a Brave Nature can be used instead of Heavy Slam to take advantage of Steelix's low speed but it fails to hit opposing slow Pokemon for significant damage such as Florges.
  • A spread with maximum HP and Special defense investment can be used to increase Steelix's bulk but this leaves Steelix noticeably more passive. does this help against any mon in particular? either remove this or include them.
  • Protect can be used in the last slot to scout for super effective coverage moves and gain extra Leftovers recovery but Steelix generally appreciates the utility of Curse or Toxic more.
  • mention stone edge hits golisopod, yanmega, mantine, and noivern and also add roar which lets u phaze setup sweepers and rack up hazard dmg.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Blastoise-Mega, Seismitoad, Mantine, and Araquanid can easily switch into Steelix's attacks and force Steelix out. However, they dislike switching into Toxic. make sure to specify trapper araquanid and refresh milo/seismi dont actually mind switching into tox

**Special Attackers**: While Steelix has phenomenal physical defense, its special defense is below average, allowing powerful special attackers such as Salazzle, Ninetales, Ampharos-Mega, and Houndoom are all able to easily KO Steelix once Sturdy is broken and S. None of these special attackers are able to safely switch into Steelix however. mention amphy can ohko through sturdy

**Grass-types: Shaymin, Virizion, and Rotom-C are able to easily switch into Earthquake and deal massive damage to Steelix. Roserade and Abomasnow-Mega can also deal significant damage to Steelix but are unable to switch into Heavy Slam.

**Fighting-types**: Bewear and Machamp can OHKO Steelix if Sturdy is broken, the former of which is able to switch into Steelix repeatedly thanks to its great physical bulk. bewear still takes a lot from eq, so just mention it can switch into heavy slam for basically free

Curse down to OO, Steelix is very underwhelming offensively and relies much too heavily on Toxic to cripple hazard removal, so running Curse will very rarely happen

  • Add bullet for Stealth Rock
Set Details
========
  • Investment in HP and Special Defense EVs enhance Steelix's overall bulk.
  • 48 Attack EVs and an Adamant Nature enable Steelix to OHKO Swellow and Honchkrow after Stealth Rock damage and Life Orb recoil. It also gives Steelix a solid chance to OHKO Roselia after Stealth Rock damage and Life Orb recoil. Examples used to justify EV spread are all bad / inaccurate. You'll beat Honchkrow even without the attack investment, as LO is forced to superpower and you beat Dark Z 1v1 anyway. The part about Roserade is a 50/50 roll with rocks up and only works vs rose w LO and no sleep powder. in the end, the only accurate example is obscure pokemon swellow which relies on sturdy being up and will leave your steelix useless after. also keep in mind this is 0 defensive investment, meaning you'll struggle to switch in and beat pokemon like tyrantrum (earthquake) after slight chip. if you don't have any other justification or a new spread just go with a physically defensive based spread
  • Leftovers provides Steelix with passive recovery and increase its longevity as well as allowing Steelix to regain Sturdy.
  • Sturdy guarantees Steelix to survive at least one hit, allowing it to reliably set Stealth Rock or attack threats such as Salazzle.
Usage Tips
========
  • Bring Steelix in against Pokemon it can check such as Tyrantrum in order to set Stealth Rock. However keep in mind Steelix needs to stay relatively healthy in order to beat them.
  • Preserve Sturdy when possible as it allows Steelix to guarentee the removal of threatening sweepers such as Salazzle, Houndoom, and Barbaracle.
  • Furthermore, a lack of recovery means Steelix can not switched in recklessly as it will fail to check Pokemon such as Stakataka once weakened. stakataka is banned, replace the example
  • Cripple Bulky Water-types such as Blastoise-Mega and Mantine with Toxic on the switch.
  • Use Curse against physical attackers that are unable to overcome Steelix such as Stakataka, Tyrantrum, and Aerodactyl. curse is no longer on the main set so this bullet can go
Team Options

  • A spread with maximum HP and Special defense investment with a Careful Nature can be used to increase Steelix's bulk and allow it to avoid a 3HKO from Dragalge's Hidden Power Fire but this leaves Steelix noticeably more passive. running spdef is not very logical when a ton of the most common special attackers will run over it anyway (shaymin stoise ninetales etc) and the example is bad b/c dragalge can fit focus blast or x water move easily
  • Protect can be used in the last slot to scout for super effective coverage moves and gain extra Leftovers recovery but Steelix generally appreciates the utility of Curse or Toxic more.
  • Stone Edge can be used to hit Pokemon such as Mantine and Golisiopod for super effective damage.
  • Roar can be used to phaze out set-up sweepers such as Curse Snorlax and also allows Steelix to rack up entry hazard damage against the opposing team.
Steelix is rarely going to go out of the main 4 moves, which is why most of these aren't going to be in the analysis. also, some of them are flat out bad ex. stone edge does nothing to golisopod and mantine

Checks and Counters

Remove mention of Rotom-C and Umbreon since they both are kinda bad and umbreon doesnt really pair well with steelix, also you missed a period before clerics, the rest looks fine, qc 3
