Strategy+Favorites=Fun

Hello veterans and newcomers alike! This is my second RMT, and my first UU RMT. I went wit a typical FWG core, and tried to stick with Pokemon that I actually liked, not just ones with high BST, and have had fun with it ever since. Although I dont like using legendaries, any and all suggestions and criticisms will be greatly appreciated and considered:)
CHANGES IN BOLD

Without further dudes, lets get right down to the team! despite using a FWG core, I started with Umbreon. He's been a favorite of mine since GSC, and I absolutely love using her.

Then I decided to patch up Umbreon's defensive shortfalls with Prankster Sableye. I LOVE prankster sableye, but depite his malevolence, he just didnt quite fit the role. I decided to go with Cofagrigus, who actually complements Umbreon quite well.

Now that I have a pretty solid defense core, lets move on to the actual FWG. I chose roserade for obvious reasons. Shes powerful AND versatile.

Fourth slot goes to Empoleon! I thought about either Kingdra, Slowbro, or Swampert, but empoleon offered me steel typing too.

to finish the FWG triad i went with the devastating Darmanitan. Originally it was arcanine, but darmanitan offers better wallbreaking talents.

The final slot was very hard to fill, and I'm still not 100% decided. I went with Mienshao for revenge killing and momentum. originally I thought about a similar Flygon, or a spinning Hitmotop, but mienshao seemed a better fit, although making me weak to psychic types.

Lets meet the team!

Luna-Umbreon@ Leftovers
ability-synchronize
calm nature
EV:252hp, 252spdef, 4def
-foul play
-wish
-heal bell
-toxic
I usually dont lead with her, as she is my special tank AND cleric, but she can lead fairly effectivley. foul play allows her not to be taunt bait and is a surprising STAB move to unprepared setup sweepers, and toxic... well its toxic. wish and healbell allow her to aide her teammates amazingly. I wanted protect in there somewhere, but couldnt sacrifice a move for it:(

563.gif

Curse-Cofagrigus@ leftovers
ability-mummy
bold nature
EV:248hp, 252def, 8spdef
-will-o-wisp
-shadow ball
-protect
-haze
The physical symbiote for Umbreon, cofagrigus is a solid physical wall, also helping umbreon by crippling would-be physical attackers with a burn. shadow ball is reliable enough, and protect is great for scouting choice sets. I had pain split for healing but it didnt have great synnergy with burn damage, so haze is a surprise factor AND ruins setup sweepers.

407.gif

Fleur-Roserade@ life orb
ability-natural cure
modest nature
EV:252spattk, 252spe, 4 def
-leaf storm
-sludge bomb
-extrasensory
-synthesis
she floats like a butterfree and stings like celebii (god i hate myself for that). a dangerous special threat with good coverage and reliable healing is always a good thing. I opted for HP fire over sleep powder due to its 75% accuracy:/ also she absorbes toxic spikes and is also a full tilt status absorber with natural cure. thanks for the idea of extrasensory, kitten milk:)

395.gif

Elvis-Empoleon@ leftovers
ability-torrent
timid nature
EV:252hp, 252spdef, 4def
-stealth rock
-scald
-ice beam
-roar
A risky set, indeed, and it relies heavily on surprise factor, but can be used incredibly effectively. substitute down into salac range for a boost (also possible torrent range) and proceed to destroy with great coverage moves. I am open to better, less risky sets on this beast. again, thanks to kitten milk for this set. on paper it seems SO much more functional, although the EV spread could be altered i suppose. I cant wait to test with it:)

555.gif

Sledge-Darmanitan@ life orb
ability-sheer force
adamant nature
EV:252attk, 252spe, 4hp
-flare blitz
-rock slide
-superpower
-u turn
not much can stop this physical monster. i considered a scarf on him, but the synnergy with life orb and sheer force was unavoidable. Flare blitz is the Stab move of choice and only has trouble against certain water types and other fires, which his coverage can handle nicely.

620.gif

Mrs. Miagi-Mienshao@ choice scarf
ability-regenerator
jolly nature
EV:252speed, 252attk, 4hp
-hi jump kick
-u turn
-stone edge
-aerial ace
my revenge killing mistress! not much needs to be said other than the only safe check to her is gligar. man i hate gligar. still not 100% on this slot, and could use some help with maybe a better choice.

CHECKS/COUNTERS- certain weather teams tend to be a little touch to deal with, as do some bulky water types in general. I also have a weakness to entry hazards, as i lack a reliable spinner, and I also have no way to lay them down myself. Zapdos is one of my toughest opponents, and Scrafty has had insane success against me somehow.

I would love some input and am open to just about all changes. This team has proven to be very fun and fairly successful, and feel free to use all or parts of it if you wish:)

Your empoleon set doesn't seem to be very helpful. Empoleon doesn't have the power to make a subsalac set worthwhile, so I'd suggest a similar SubPetaya set with Agility over Ice Beam/Grass Knot depending on what you have trouble with. Although it does take a considerable bit more time to set up, it's a lot more of a threat than SubSalac when it's in torrent behind a sub with +1/+2.

If you're not set on keeping your offensive Empoleon, I'd definitely consider making it a mixed wall with SR. Your team could do with some hazard support, and Empoleon's set is the most easily changeable.

I'd go with Extrasensory > HP Fire on Roserade if you're going to keep it. It nails you the useful hits on things like Crobat and Nidoking/queen as well as being able to hit Nidos, Tops, Shaos, Heracross, etc without having to resort to a momentum-losing Leaf Storm.

If you're willing to break your FWG core, I'd make Empoleon a SpD SR set, Cofag an OTR set, and replace Roserade with a Spiker Froslass. I'll update this post with the sets later, but the general idea is to give your team the hazard support, dedicated lead, and balanced offenses while maintaining momentum at all times and not touching the balance of physical/special.

Also just as a general rule, try and make your descriptions at least three lines long so that they don't violate the RMT rules.

Thanks kitten milk, those are really helpful suggestions. I especially appreciate the help with Empoleon. I was hoping to keep Cofagrigus as a physical wall instead of an OTR set, but I will definitely test it out. Also, i like the idea of a spiker froslass, as i run one with a focus sash on another team of mine. I am willing to break the FWG chain, but i will miss the hell outta roserade. Also, sorry about making mienshao's description only 2 lines, I will keep a closer eye on it for next time:)

Hey great team! Just a few little things I'd like to bring up.

First off, it might be a good idea to try Rest on Roserade. It seems impractical at first, but it compliments Natural Cure very well. You can rest up and switch out and you'll have yourself a good-as-new Roserade. Since you're running Leaf Storm (which will often persuade you to switch) I think this might be the better option for you.

I don't really understand the need for Protect on Cofagrigus. Yeah, you can stall for burn damage, but I think an outright Shadow Ball would be more reliable than that. You have Toxic on Umbreon but... I don't think Umbreon will be using Toxic on anything that Cofag can directly counter anyways. Cofagrigus has some other options that it can do such as Pain Split, Knock Off or even some lesser seen ones like Toxic and Trick. I'd take a second look at Cofag's movepool and see if anything you think you could use pops up.

Also, you could try Protect on Umbreon so you can assure yourself a recovery if your Umbreon needs one.

But other than that, this is pretty solid. Great job!

Thanks, GenXYZ. This is my first use of Cofagrigus, so I am more than happy to tweak his movepool. Trick is a great move and can cripple opposing sweepers if I can catch them off guard, and it seems a little more viable than knock off or pain split since burn damage and pain splint is a little couterintuitive. I hadnt even thought of rest with rose, and Im kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner. it has obvious synnergy with natural cure and leaf storm, and I will most def test it out over synthesis so thank you:). I can honestly say Ive never used an Umbreon without toxic, and while I would absolutely LOVE protect on umbreon, maybe I could ask you to further explain removing toxic? Maybe i just dont understand it, but it seems like it would lose its cleric/stall combo and would be a dedicated cleric. Again, I really appreciate the input, keep it coming:)

If your confident in your ability to stall a special attacker out with Umbreon, then there isn't a lot of need to change the set, I admit. I just figured that doing so might be difficult with Wish as your only form of recovery. I believe that Umbreon is the most effective when it does go full on cleric, but taking a second look at the team I can definitely see the need for toxic.

Well, I havent met a special attacker yet who could tear down umbreon, but that doesnt mean i won't at some point. I would love to have protect on him, so much so that I had contemplated removing heal bell since rose already functions as a status absorber, but heal bell is just too useful.

So Kitten Milk, I really have to tell ya, I am amazed by the suggestions you made. OTR Cofag, SpDef Empol, and Spiker Froslass are exactly what this team needed! I just went 3 for 3 in battle finder (despite bad wifi connection), and was pleasantly surprised. Thanks again:)

You got nothing to switch into Darmanitan or Victini and they won't have particularly much trouble switching in. Cofagrigus cannot switch in because he is slower (even after V-create) and doesn't resist fire. Cofagrigus should have pain split instead of protect for durability and Mienshao should have life orb.

No problem at all :) This was an awesome team before and it just needed a little bit of tweaking :P I'm glad it's working out for you, and I'm always happy to help out. Best of luck with the changes ^.^

To be honest, HUARG, I havent encountered nearly as many Darms and Victinis as I should have. Umbreon can typically OHKO Victini after rocks, and Darms are so fragile that mienshao can usually handle them, but I definitely will look at a better counter for these fire juggernauts. thanks:)
