Solid bulk, a threatening offensive presence, and good ability in Sticky Hold make Muk a great stallbreaker. Sticky Hold allows Muk to keep its item from Knock Off users like Clefairy and Mienfoo, as well as Trick and Switcheroo from foes like Mr. Mime and Persian. Poison Jab is recommended as Muk’s STAB option due to its perfect accuracy as well as a nasty 30% chance to poison the target, which is important in putting pressure on Solrock that try to answer Muk. Substitute protects Muk from status from Pokemon like Clefairy, Frillish, and Staryu. Muk also has ample opportunities to setup Substitute due to its unique ability and good bulk, and also brushing off common staples such as Mienfoo, Leafeon, and Clefairy. In conjunction with Focus Punch, Muk can threaten Pokemon that would be usually little-to-no damage from its attacks such as Wormadam-T and Clefairy. Shadow Sneak is recommended for having a form of speed control against fast Psychic- and Ghost-types like Mr. Mime and Grumpig, as well as picking off weakened foes, but Payback can be used against walls like Solrock, especially if it tries to set up Stealth Rock, and other Psychic- and Ghost-types. The Substitute can protect Muk from these faster Psychic-types and status spreaders, allowing it to use Payback more efficiently. Maximum HP investment makes Muk as bulky as possible while maximum Attack along with an Adamant Nature allows Muk to deal as much damage.

Muk is a good tank, fitting on bulky offense to semi-stall teams. Eviolite users especially appreciate Muk’s ability to take Knock Off from the likes of Mienfoo and Clefairy. In return, Eviolite users such as Vullaby and Pawniard can take Ground- and Psychic-type attacks from threats such as Grumpig, Wormadam-S, and Solrock. Clefairy is a great partner thanks to its Wish support and ability to deal with status. Special attackers such as Simisear, Mr. Mime, and Glaceon can break through physical walls like Ivysaur, Hippopotas, and Solrock. Although Muk is bulky, if chipped enough, it can be revenge killed by Pokemon like Persian, Mr. Mime, and Emolga. Therefore, dedicated walls such as Solrock, Wormadam-S, and Hippopotas are beneficial. They also help set up entry hazards, which makes it easier for Muk to blow holes in the opposition. Muk is especially good into attackers it resists, like Mienfoo and Leafeon, allowing it to set up Substitute on them, so Pokemon that struggle with the aforementioned foes, like Pawniard, Lairon, Graveler, and Frillish appreciate Muk’s presence and can lure in said foes for Muk to take care of.

Sticky Hold allows Muk to keep its item from Knock Off users like Clefairy and Mienfoo, as well as Trick and Switcheroo from foes like Mr. Mime and Persian. Poison Jab is recommended as Muk's primary STAB option due to its perfect accuracy as well as a nasty 30% chance to poison the target. Substitute protects Muk from status from Pokemon like Clefairy, Frillish, and Staryu. Mention that it cannot be broken by weak attackers Muk also has ample opportunities to setup Substitute due to its unique ability and good bulk. In conjunction with Focus Punch, Muk can threaten Steel-types that would be usually immune take little-to-no damage from its attacks such as Pawniard and Lairon. Shadow Sneak is recommended for having a form of speed control against fast Psychic- and Ghost-types like Mr. Mime and Grumpig, Mention its ability to pick off neutral foes but Payback can be used against walls like Solrock, especially if it tries to set up Stealth Rock. Specify Payback primarily targets Ghost- and Psychic-types, as Muk's other attacking options are generally better Maximum HP is used so that Muk can gain as much HP from Black Sludge as well as make bulky Substitutes. Maximum investment makes Muk as bulky as possible while maximum Attack along with an Adamant Nature allows Muk to deal as much damage.

Muk is a good tank, especially with its access to Sticky Hold. Mention what team styles it fits on here Therefore, Eviolite users especially appreciate Muk’s ability to take Knock Off from the likes of Mienfoo and Clefairy. Although Muk is strong bulky, if chipped enough, it can be revenge killed by Pokemon like Persian, Mr. Mime, and Emolga, preventing it from setting up Substitute. Therefore, dedicated walls such as Solrock, Wormadam-S, and Hippopotas are beneficial. They also help set up entry hazards, which makes it easier for Muk to blow holes in the opposition. Mention Muk's ability to take advantage of weak attackers by setting up Substitute, greatly punishing their use
