Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Ever though Work Up and Growth were kind of useless? Well, the good news is that as difficult as it is to pull off, you can use both attack types at once in a combination. Here's how to calculate:
Example: Brave Torterra Razor Leaf + Leaf Storm w/ +1 Atk/SpA, in a Double Battle against Starmie and Archeops.
First combine the Base Attack Power of the two attacks, then split it in half. One will calculate using Physical Attack and the other will calculate using Special Attack. Apply STAB before the split. 6 + 14 + 3 = 23, split in half is 11.5. The accuracy if the attack will be 92.5%. In a double battle, Razor Leaf hits all foes, and Leaf Storm lowers Special Attack two stages after use. The Energy cost is (4 + 9 - 1 = 12) * 1.5 = 18.

Hugo makes one last valiant effort with a speedy Ice Shard, but is unable to do much to Ambipom before the simian Pokemon knocks his foe out with a Double Hit.
The score has evened yet again and it is now Galladiator to send out the next competitor in his stable. Will he send out one of his heavy-hitting Fully Evolved champions? Or does he not feel the need to expend such a valuable fighter..?

Ambipom "attacks" with a barrage of insults aimed at Roman and his mother (Martha?). This Taunting of his irritates the Gallade and provokes him into attacking him directly.
This provocation succeeds perhaps a little too well and Roman charges up for a powerful combo utilizing Psycho Cut and Slash. This combo creates a Blade of the Mind's Eye that Gallade manipulates into striking his foe weak spots, hitting him critically, but not knocking him from the ring.
Ambipom decides to Screech at his foe to demoralize him and lower his defenses greatly.
Roman can only cool down after his powerful combo, his foe's attack still ringing in his ears.
Roman brings both his powerful arms down atop the Ambipom in a Brick Break attack. Utilizing his foe's weakness, Gallade makes this attack almost as powerful as his combo...
Unfortunately for the rash Gallade, Dexter has a trick up his sleeve and focuses all the pain he feels from Roman's attack into his own Counter strike. The aura Dexter produces is enough to buffet Gallade terribly an push him back a few feet, but is unable to KO him or knock him out of the arena.

To begin the round, Ambipom... Tickles his foe. This "attack" emotionally disturbs Roman enough to lower his attack and defense values.
Despite the mental trauma, (or perhaps because of it) Roman brutalizes his foe with a powerful Brick Break attack. While there aren't any bricks around, the crunching of Dexter's bones more than satisfies Roman's bloodlust.
Dexter decides to prevent any further damage to itself, so he Fakes Out his opponent. The blow he inflicts on Roman is swift enough to make Roman flinch and become unable to act.
Dexter ends the round by using a Chill to recover his energy, while Roman takes a much more violent approach with a Psycho Cut that deals some good damage to the resting Ambipom.

While Roman begins setting up a Trick Room to distort the reality of the room, he is hit by Ambipom's twin tails. Although they do some good damage, he is able to construct the anomaly.
Now out-speeding Ambipom, the Gallade charges in and KO's his foe with a Brick Break, leaving no hope for his opponent.

Other: Despite beating Dexter, he could really use a Roman Holiday.
Perhaps as a bite to Galladiator's hubris, TheMogRunner sends out Turkey the Karrablast, a Pokemon that is now faster than Roman thanks to Trick Room.
Turkey uses his newfound speed advantage to attack Gallade with a deadly Megahorn. The charging attack ends with Turkey throwing the Gallade to the other side of the ring with his powerful horn.
Roman's rather weak response to this is a Will-O-Wisp that will serve to cripple Turkey for the rest of the battle.
Roman's trickery is followed by a standard Fire Punch that he hits Turkey with. Unfortunately for Gallade this super-effective attack only serves to strengthen his foe's next attack...
By suffering Gallade's attack, Karrablast is able to strike his foe at the perfect time. Turkey's Counterattack consists of him grabbing Roman's attacking arm and flipping over the foolish Gallade, using his own strength against him! Truly this little Pokemon has mastered the art of fighting...
