Sun teams seem pretty popular.

This is an Uber Sun team I came up with. I really like this team, and it seems to all work together. However, I definitely need some advice. The team is very offensive and focuses on setting up the sun and sweeping. However, the sun isn’t completely necessary. I’m very willing to change some of the Pokemon around to help improve my team.

TEAM BUILDING:
Ho-Oh.gif

This team actually started when I wanted to use Ho-oh. I never really liked its Stealth Rock weakness, but I decided to give it a shot.

Ho-Oh.gif

To compliment Ho-oh, I chose Groudon to increase Sacred Fire’s power, and “remove” Ho-oh’s water weakness.

I chose Palkia as a revenge killer, because Palkia is the best killer in my opinion. With a great move, Spacial Rend, and great coverage moves, Palkia hits everything very hard.

The next choice was to pick a Pokemon to sort of surprise open with. I’ve used Giratina-O in the past, and it’s worked great for me. It can reflect back stealth rock, and also act as a spin blocker. It also traps and OHKOs Darkrai leads.

The next choice was sort of on a whim. I really wanted to try out Deoxys-A, and after I saw a physical set on another RMT, I was hooked.

The last choice was Zekrom, solely because I had a huge Kyogre weakness.

This is also my first Uber team without some form of Arceus. o_O

DETAILED ANALYSIS:

image_18376.png

Giratina-O @Griseous Orb
Levitate || Lonely
244 Atk / 252 SpA / 12 Spe
~Magic Coat
~Shadow Sneak
~Draco Meteor
~Hidden Power Fire

Giratina-O plays the role of my usual lead, “setting up” hazards, countering Darkrai leads, and hopefully killing one or two Pokemon before it goes down. Griseous Orb gives Giratina more power with its STAB Ghost and Dragon moves. The EV’s maximize Attack and Special Attack, while the 12 Speed EV’s allow Giratina to outspeed base 90, 4 EV Pokemon. Magic Coat allows Giratina to reflect back hazards from Deoxys-S, and Dark Void from Darkrai leads. Shadow Sneak is a great Priority STAB move, capable of 2HKOing Mewtwo. Draco Meteor hits Dragons and is overall just another great STAB move. HP Fire takes take of Ferrothorn, Forretress and Scizor.

Groudon @Leftovers
Drought || Adamant
116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
~Rock Polish
~Earthquake
~Fire Punch
~Stone Edge

Can’t have a sun team without sun, right? Groudon is fairly standard here. The speed EV’s let Groudon outspeed everything not scarfed after a Rock Polish, as well as beat Scarf Garchomp, Palkia, Zekrom, and Kyogre. The rest maximize Groudon’s bulk and attack. Earthquake is for STAB, Fire Punch gets a pseudo-STAB in the sun, and Stone Edge hits Flying types hard. Leftovers over Life Orb to increase its bulk and keep it alive longer. Not a very complex Pokemon, maybe I could change the set, or maybe even the pokemon?
hooh_display.png

Ho-Oh @Life Orb
Pressure || Adamant
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~Sacred Fire
~Brave Bird
~Roost
~Flame Charge

Ho-oh is the reason I made this team. With the addition of Flame Charge to its arsenal, Ho-oh can now sweep very efficiently. Reaching 418 Speed after one boost, it can outspeed everything bar Scarf users, the Deoxys forms, and Ninjask. Sacred Fire and Brave Bird are its two best STAB moves, and Roost heals off any damage. And due to Ho-oh’s MASSIVE Special Defense, this is very doable. Even with its 50% damage from Stealth Rock, it can easily heal off that damage and sweep. I’m debating whether or not I want a Life Orb or Leftovers.

Palkia @Choice Scarf
Pressure || Timid
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
~Spacial Rend
~Power Gem
~Fire Blast
~Thunder

Palkia is my revenge killer, and is a good one at that. While usually I have Surf in its arsenal, I decided to give it up due to the power loss in the Sun. However, I wasn’t sure what to replace it with. Originally, it was Draco Meteor, but then I figured out I had a somewhat large Ho-oh weakness. Power Gem can 2HKO Ho-oh, so as long as Ho-oh hasn’t gotten two Flame Charges off, it’s taken care of, but with massive damage to Palkia. Any suggestions for this?
mball03_070717a.jpg

Deoxys-A @Life Orb
Pressure || Adamant
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~Zen Headbutt
~ExtremeSpeed
~Ice Punch
~Fire Punch

My wild card, if you will. Not many people expect Deoxys-A to be carrying a Physical set. It reaches 399 Speed without a Nature boost, which is enough to outspeed both Darkrai and Mewtwo, and the extra speed wouldn’t accomplish much, so I chose an Adamant nature. Zen Headbutt for STAB and the possible flinch. Extremespeed takes care of weakened pokemon and finishes off opposing pokemon on the off chance Deoxys-A lives through an attack. Ice Punch hits Dragons hard, and Fire Punch gets the pseudo-STAB in the sun, and is great for Ferrothorn, Scizor, and other Steel Types. However, I’m thinking about changing something here. Maybe using Superpower somewhere? Or even choosing an entirely new Pokemon.
Zekrom_by_arkeis_pokemon.png

Zekrom @Choice Band
Teravolt || Jolly
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~Outrage
~Dragon Claw
~Bolt Strike
~Crunch

Zekrom is another very two dimensional pokemon. It OHKOs Kyogre as long as Kyogre is not scarfed. That’s pretty much it. It can come out during other times too and hit hard with Outrage/Dragon Claw, and Crunch hits Psychic and Ghost types very hard. Other than that, it doesn’t serve much of a purpose. I really need help here as to what I could do to improve/replace Zekrom. Maybe a Scarf?

Threat List:

382000.gif

Kyogre is the bane of this team’s existence. It can easily take out Groudon, and take out a large chunk of my Team. If Zekrom’s Bolt Strike misses, then that’s pretty much gg. Groudon can get a hit off if it’s gotten a Rock Polish off, but it can’t OHKO it. Maybe some entry hazards are required?

dialga__bw__by_yuchikuto-d34fqlk.gif

If Groudon is gone, Dialga takes at best Neutral damage from every other member in my team. It’s just a hassle to get rid of. Maybe changing one of the pokemon’s sets to include Earthquake or a Fighting type move?

Ho-Oh.gif

Surprisingly, Ho-oh isn’t that common. But just like mine, it is a massive threat. Palkia can 2HKO, but that’s only if Ho-oh hasn’t gotten off a 2nd Flame Charge. And Palkia takes massive damage.

palkia.gif

Scarf Palkia doesn’t pose a huge threat, it’s more of an annoyance. It can revenge with Spacial Rend, but usually I can bring in Ho-oh to take some of the special attacks, or bring in my own Palkia and hope I win the speed tie.

9273449852271_arceus.gif

Oh and Extremekiller Arceus is a problem. But isn’t it for most teams? Giratina can hit it hard with Draco Meteor but, it usually kills me by then. Deoxys-A is faster, so my Extremespeed outspeeds its Extremespeed, but that’s only if it’s been weakened down already.

Thanks for reading, rating, and helping me with my team!

You could run Psycho Boost on Deoxys-A instead of Zen headbutt. Seeing that you used physical moves on it, it wouldn't affect any of your other moves.

Instead of using roost for your Ho-oh, run Recover. Roost makes your Ho-oh prone to Earthquake.

Also, Power Gem is Rubbish. Get rid of it, since Zekrom's Bolt Stike will OHKO opposing Ho-Oh's anyway. Oh, its better having Ice Beam on Palkia instead of surf, seeing that your team is a Sun team.

Thanks for the rate!

What EV spread should I use on Deoxys if I'm running Psycho Boost? I'm also thinking of maybe running Low Kick?

However, Roost protects me from Thunder. Maybe just a preference, but I find it more effective than running Recover. -shrug- Although Ho-oh does already have high Sp. Defense. I'll try it out =)

@Bafuron please put some thought and reasoning into a rate, not suggest something just because you use it yourself.

Now, onto the rate. This team's pretty decent, but I have a few suggestions.

First, I'd use Support Groudon so that you have a reliable answer to Extremekiller Arceus. This also lets you use Stealth Rock, which you currently do not have.

Groudon @ Leftovers
Drought
Impish 252/0/252/0/4/0
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock

You may want to consider shifting some Defense EVs into Speed so that you can get the jump on SubRoost Ho-Oh and OHKO it with Stone Edge before it can move.

On that note I suggest Stone Edge over Power Gem on Palkia, which has a decent chance to OHKO Ho-Oh even without Stealth Rock, which Power Gem cannot do. Giving Palkia a Hasty nature guarantees Stone Edge KOs.

And lastly, Deo-A. I suggest switching to this set:

Deoxys-A @ Life Orb
Pressure
Rash 0/4/0/252/0/252
- Psycho Boost
- Low Kick / Superpower
- Fire Punch
- Extremespeed / Shadow Ball / Spikes

This turns Deo-A into more of an offensive threat. Psycho Boost hits like a ton of bricks, of course. Low Kick is all around more solid, but Superpower hits Darkrai harder, and Ferrothorn as well if you drop Fire Punch. You can use Spikes if you want to build up residual damage. Extremespeed for revenging weakened random Scarfers, or Shadow Ball for revenging Mewtwo. Grass Knot is an option for nailing Kyogre too.

Good luck!

Thanks Tobes! I really like the defensive Groudon suggestion! I will definitely try that out =)

I also really like the Stone Edge choice on Palkia. It also gives it something to hit Blissey hard with =)

As for Deoxys-A, putting Grass Knot on it for another Kyogre counter sounds awesome, but I'm not too sure how I like losing the insane physical power. It doesn't seem too terrible, just a little sad I'll be losing a very strong Extremespeed. =) Maybe I could use a Psycho Boost, Grass Knot, Low Kick, Fire Punch?

Thanks so much for the rate! This is definitely going to help my team a lot!

So I also found that Scarf Dialga poses a real problem. It hits most of my team hard, can 2HKO Groudon with Draco Meteor, and I don't really have a safe switch in if SR is up. Any suggestions for that? =)

Hi, your team looks pretty solid but you have too many weaknesses to dragon and lacks a steel type to resist it. Magic coat also won't stop stealth rock forever so I'd recommend Rapid Spin support for Ho-Oh. Forretress can fill this role pretty well and can help you fight back against Extreme Arceus better especially if you run Toxic. Also this provides hazards to sweep easier.

Hi im saying you could have resharim instead of ho oh sense it doesn't have that 50% weakness to stealth rock weaknessand can set up flame charges and also its 2 stabs are not resisted by anything in the game so just saying if ya might want to try it out.

Its a pretty good team though.

Hope i helped.(:
