VGC Sun / TR team

This team doesn't mess with standard setups much. Torkoal is the staple of the team. Venusaur + Heliolisk forms a team abusing Torkoal's Drought while Dusclops + Rhyperior forms a Trick Room strategy. Slowbro is especially designed to fill both the role of a 2nd Trick Room setter as well as functioning well in the Sunlight team.

Torkoal

Charcoal

Drought

Quiet - 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD

  • Eruption
  • Body Press
  • Protect
  • Heat Wave

Torkoal is the core of this team. It boosts the sweepers in the Sunlight setup and is a powerful attacker on the Trick Room setup. Body Press comes in handy in niche situations. It’s 4x effective against Tyranitar which is a common switch-in against Torkoal. Torkoal's Drought is crucial to the non-TR version of the team. When following this strategy Torkoal is always sent out first, mostly along with one of the sweepers (Venusaur or Heliolisk).

Venusaur

Zoom Lens

Chlorophyll

Modest - 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

  • Sludge Bomb
  • Solar Beam
  • Earth Power
  • Sleep Powder

The speedy sweeper. With Torkoal as it’s ally, hardly anything can outspeed Venusaur. This allows quick executions as well as sleep powder. When going with sunlight strategy rather than TR, leading with Max Vine Lash supported by Torkoal is the ideal first move. This applies future damage on both sides of the opposing team. This also counters Focus Sash or otherwise barely surviving opponents.

Heliolisk

Life Orb

Solar Power

Timid - 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

  • Thunderbolt
  • Hyper Voice
  • Grass Knot
  • Protect

The high damage sweeper. With Torkoal as it’s ally and Life orb equipped Heliolisk can deal some serious damage. I used to have a Charizard in this spot but it had too many type-overlaps with Torkoal and Venusaur. Gross Knot keeps Heliolisk from becoming useless against ground and Rock types. Heliolisk can do exceptionally well against teams that lack Ground and Fighting Moves, as these are it's only weaknessess. Be wary of ground moves though, this team doesn't have any strong defensive options against it.

Slowbro

Quick Claw

Quick Draw

Brave - 252 HP / 76 Atk / 20 Def / 160 SpD

  • Shell Side Arm
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Imprison
  • Trick Room

Slowbro is a flexible pick for this Sun/TR team. In the Sun team it can provide Imprison against TR teams and use Claw and Draw to counter it’s low speed while it makes use of this low speed in the TR team whilst providing a 2nd Trick Room for the team. I decided to Lean into Physical for this to help out the Sun team against high SpD opponents. Slowbro can also be a failsafe if you think your opponent will try to stop your Trick Room. You can lead with both TR users to draw attention to Dusclops while actually using the Trick Room with Slowbro.

Dusclops

Eviolite

Frisk

Relaxed - 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 SpD

  • Trick Room
  • Night Shade
  • Pain Split
  • Ally Switch

Dusclops is the main TR-setter of the team. Night Shade and Pain Split allow for damage not crippled by it’s low offensive stats. Ally Switch messes up the opponent’s gameplan. Besides setting Trick Room Dusclops doesn't do much aside from being very bulky. Be aware of that when deciding your game plan. You might want to lead with Trick Room but the chances you want to switch him out afterwards are very present. Learning when Dusclops needs to come and go is key to making the TR-strategy work.

Rhyperior

Weakness Policy

Solid Rock

Brave - 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD

  • Rock Slide
  • High Horsepower
  • Thunder Punch
  • Protect
Rhyperior is the physical sweeper mostly used with TR. It also provides a strong Rock-type attacker for coverage. Thunder Punch helps out against water types, this also works for coverage as Heliolisk and Rhyperior are unlikely to feature in the same strategy. Opponent's often try to prepare supereffective hits against picks like Rhyperior. Weakness policy helps to gain some advantage out of this.

I'm locking your RMT for the time being as the forum rules require that you provide at least 3 lines of descriptions for each Pokemon to explain their roles. Please read the rules carefully and take a look at Team Showcase to see the level of detail we require. PM me with updated descriptions and I'll be happy to unlock this.
