Sunny Day Team I'm Trying

This is a fairly old team I found on the forums. So far I've been pretty successful other than I don't have a lot to counter fighting types. Also because the team is so old I'd like to make improvements for the new metagame.

(Ninetales) (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 88 SDef / 168 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Toxic
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Ninetales' main purpose is for his drought ability. This is a bulky ninetales meant to last in case of a weather war. The Air balloon is meant to protect against a earthquake. Simply the primary purpose of this Ninetales is to just stay alive. If there's not a another weather then this Ninetales is primarily mean break walls and sweepers with toxic and Will-o-Wisp

(Darmanitan) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Superpower

Darmanitan is a fantastic pokemon. Choice scarf is meant to help Darmanitan outspeed other fire types which will also have access to the advantages of the sun. Darmanitan's purpose, as I see it, is to hit hard and remove as many potential stall wars as possible.

(Forretress) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball

Forretress is a great pokemon. I know Ferrothorn outclasses him in most respects but I don't believe Ferrothorn has access to Sturdy which is quite helpful for setting up stealth rock. The rapid spin ability is especially important since stealth rock hurts a lot of my pokes (especially Volcarona

(Sawsbuck-Winter) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Double-Edge
- Nature Power
- Horn Leech
- Swords Dance

I believe that Sawsbuck is a highly underrated pokemon. Ground types tremble before him! His great natural speed combined with chlorophyll makes this poke a rocket! Access to swords dance makes Sawsbuck in some respects. I highly suggest this pokemon's use.

003.gif

(Venusaur) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Energy Ball
- Growth
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sludge Bomb

My I love this offensive Venusar. He has a natural bulk takes rock slides with ease! Hidden Power Fire takes out any pesky Celebi's hanging around.

637.gif

(Volcarona) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Morning Sun

Volcarona is my sweeper! Perhaps untraditonally this poke is more defensive than the typical Volcarona which is typically a glass cannon. Many opponents are usually surprised by the bulkiness of this Volcarona when he comes in. With Venusuar and Sawsbuck to clear the path of any rock types, Volcarona can come in and sweep handily

Hey ShayMinerva! You're from Georgia like me which is cool ^_^

I actually have "secret" sun team I've been passing out to certain players that has like 3/4 of the same pokemon but then again virtually all sun teams share around 3 pokemon in common.

So let me start by telling you that you should probably read the RMT guidelines and include fuller descriptions of each pokemon's role. Additionally an importable so people can try the team out easily. Listing what you feel is an issue is important also. Last maybe telling us where you peaked to make sure you at least gave it a good test playing.

Now onto some advice. You have alot of offense going on but little to stop any opposing weathers both rain and sand give this team a lot of hassle. for this reason I'm going to suggest you remove Venusuar for a Sunny Day Rotom-W
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sunny Day

This way you'll have the ungodly frustrating volt-turn combo and if you lose Ninetales you can still set up sun again!

As for Sawsbuck I definitely feel you should run frustration as that's plenty powerful and actually gives you a chance to sweep a team before recoil damage eats you alive. I'd also say you should run Jump Kick so you can beat Air Balloon Heatran. But with Darmanitan, Ninetales and hazard damage working away at Heatran with good prediction you can eliminate it before it's time for Volcarona or Sawsbuck to sweep

Finally I'm going to recommend the on-site bulky Volcarona ev-spread 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 Spe

I hope these changes help you out! Good luck on the team.

Overall, I think Donphan outclasses Forretress as in can still set up SR, has Sturdy, a great priority moves, rapid spin, and is not set-up fodder.

I would recommend a 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk Donphan which would fill the role your forretress does, but outclasses him (besides spikes)

That's all I can really say, looks like a great sun team with a lot of potential

Hey there! Nice team you have here! :) However, I have a few suggestions that I think will help you out.

Terrakion looks like a very big threat to your team atm. If Venusaur goes down, it's pretty much gg. That's why I would like to suggest a Gliscor. Gliscor's typing and good defenses allow him to take Terrakion's attacks very well. He can also take advantage of the sunlight, as water attacks won't be doing much damage to him anymore. Sawsbuck looks like the weakest link on your team. Terrakion outspeeds him and kills with Close Combat, so I would suggest replacing him with Gliscor. Here's the set:

Gliscor @Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP/184 Def/72 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
-Swords Dance
-Ice Fang
-Earthquake
-Protect

The set above provides offensive pressure for the team and unlike Sawsbuck, Gliscor can take a few hits to the face and brush it off like it was nothing! Protect helps you scout your opponent's team. Earthquake is the STAB move of choice, while Ice Fang can stop the numerous dragons in the tier, especially after a Swords Dance.

Also, Darmanitan is outclassed by Heatran. Ironically, Heatran also threatens your team badly. It can come in on a predicted Fire attack and make its own fire moves stronger! Nothing on your team can take a Flash Fire boosted Fire Blast very well. For these reasons, I think adding a Heatran of your own would be very helpful. In addition, Heatran can help you stop opposing Sun teams.

Heatran @Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
-Sunny Day
-Fire Blast
-Solarbeam
-Earth Power

With the Air Balloon attached, Heatran doesn't have to worry about taking a Ground move. However, be wary of Ground-type mons after the balloon pops! They will be able to OHKO him with ease once that happens, so be careful! Anyway, Sunny Day helps you win the weather war by bringing back Sun, giving you the advantage again. Fire Blast is for STAB and it will do a ton of damage under the sunlight! Speaking of Sun, as long as it is still up, Heatran won't have to worry about bothersome Water-types, as their moves are weakened greatly! Solarbeam helps to take down these threats. Earth Power helps you take out opposing Heatran, but if dragons are still a problem, you may replace it with Hidden Power (Ice).

I hope this helps! :)

Hi,

This is a nice Sun team you have here, setting up and spinning hazards to support your frail sweepers, making it easier to pull off sweeps with Volcarona and Venusaur. One thing I have noticed is the big weakness to Dragons and heavy hitters such as Terrakion. Your main answer right now is Forretress, which is set up fodder for Dragons who pose a threat to your team. I think a Donphan would be a much better fit over your current Forretress. A set of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def with an Impish Nature and a set of Ice Shard, Stealth Rock, Earthquake and Rapid Spin would help your team out a lot. Donphan helps with your Dragon weakness, as it stops Dragonite and Salamence from setting up with Ice Shard. It also gives you a more reliable check to Terrakion, as you can OHKO back with Earthquake, removing said threat. Donphan also provides you with Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock just like Forretress, however Donphan does not suffer from the big fire weakness emphasized by using a Sun team. Donphan's offensive presence will help a lot against the aforementioned mons.

I would also recommend modifying your Venusaur set a little to help against threats such as Terrakion and Dragonite. Scarf Terrakion outspeeds your Venusaur and a lot of other members of your team. It can be very hard to switch into when your only physical wall is Forretress who lacks reliable recovery and can't continually switch in. I would recommend making your Venusaur slightly bulkier and try running Hidden Power [Ice] > Hidden Power [Fire]. A bulkier Venusaur will mean that you can switch into opposing threats more often and threaten them out, it will also increase Venusaur's suvivability. Given that this is a pretty offensive team with little backbone, you need all the extra bulk you can get. The set below allows you to outspeed Scarf Terrakion, Scarf Landorus, +2 Gyarados and a number of other important threats while optimizing bulk. Hidden Power cleans up the Dragon weakness mentioned previously and losing Hidden Power [Fire] is not notable when you have Ninetales, Darmanitan and Volcarona to deal with Ferrothorn / Scizor.

Cool team, hope I helped!

Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard

Venusaur (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SAtk / 168 Spd
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Sludge Bomb
- Growth
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Giga Drain

Thank you so much Jimbon, those suggestion were very helpful. They were incredibly smart and insightful, and make a lot of sense because I have been struggling with dragons. And Forretress was basically just "death fodder". I think the Donphan suggestion will work out perfectly. As for the Venesaur idea, it was also very smart because I already have a lot of fire moves and this will give me the help I need with dragons.

This is a great hyper offensive sun team, however user Kinglypuff originally created this team; and therefore deserves the credit. In the beginning of the RMT it should state that kinglypuff created the team and possibly leave a link to his RMT of the team: "Sun Means Fun".

now to possibly improve the team a sunny day Ninetales could do the trick. Sunny day Ninetales can use sunny day as a weather inducer switchs in to keep momentum in your favor. to keep your Ninetales around i would stick with your current set. just replace toxic with sunny day.
hope this helps

A minor, but albeit important change, to Venusaur is Giga Drain over Energy Ball, seeing the combo of Chlorophyll and Giga Drain is legal due to BW2 tutors.
Again, small, but will make sweeping with Venusaur generally easier.
