The newest highly anticipated Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy, sets out to own everyones Wii this holiday season. This game is looking amazing, its graphics are on par with the Xbox 360, the controls are as tight as you would expect them in a Mario game, and the story is shaping up to be very interesting.
This could be the Mario 64 of this generation, every platforming game will look to Mario for inspiration as it will set the standard for 3-D platforming in this generation and on the Wii.
Here is a video of the introduction which I won't spoil for those of you avoiding spoilers. Super Mario Galaxy is shaping up to be the Game of the Year for 2007, even with Bioshock, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, and other noteworthy titles that came out this year. It truly will be epic. IGN has tons of media to get your hands on and might be worth a look.
Many GameStops and EB Games are getting demos sent to their stores to be playable on their Wii kiosks, so if you are near one it might be worth checking out to play your favorite plumber on the Wii.
Actually playing the game can change your perspective of the game as it did for me. I was one of the early doubters of Galaxy, I figured it would turn out to be a huge gimmick with the controls, the Galaxy gimmick would just be terrible to play on, and that I would get motion sickness and not even be able to play the game at all. I played it at E for All and I was surprised, the game turned out to be amazingly well done and its the Mario we all know and love. I changed from huge doubter to one of the biggest fans.
The release dates are as follows:
US: November 12, 2007
Japan: November 1, 2007
