The newest highly anticipated Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy, sets out to own everyones Wii this holiday season. This game is looking amazing, its graphics are on par with the Xbox 360, the controls are as tight as you would expect them in a Mario game, and the story is shaping up to be very interesting.

This could be the Mario 64 of this generation, every platforming game will look to Mario for inspiration as it will set the standard for 3-D platforming in this generation and on the Wii.

Here is a video of the introduction which I won't spoil for those of you avoiding spoilers. Super Mario Galaxy is shaping up to be the Game of the Year for 2007, even with Bioshock, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, and other noteworthy titles that came out this year. It truly will be epic. IGN has tons of media to get your hands on and might be worth a look.

Many GameStops and EB Games are getting demos sent to their stores to be playable on their Wii kiosks, so if you are near one it might be worth checking out to play your favorite plumber on the Wii.

Actually playing the game can change your perspective of the game as it did for me. I was one of the early doubters of Galaxy, I figured it would turn out to be a huge gimmick with the controls, the Galaxy gimmick would just be terrible to play on, and that I would get motion sickness and not even be able to play the game at all. I played it at E for All and I was surprised, the game turned out to be amazingly well done and its the Mario we all know and love. I changed from huge doubter to one of the biggest fans.

The release dates are as follows:
US: November 12, 2007
Japan: November 1, 2007
Europe: November 16, 2007
Australia: November 29, 2007

And some retailers are offering a bonus collectors coin for pickup when you preorder the game.

And for those of you still needing a reason to buy this, if you purchase Super Mario Galaxy at Toys R Us you will also get a $25 gift card along with it for use at a later date (ie cannot be used on Galaxy). Circuit City will have this on sale for $34.99 on Black Friday.

Wow, for Galaxy to score 2/4 perfect 10s from Famitsu, this must be a very epic game. Course, I'm hoping Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn will overshadow this mario game cause I'm more of the strategy type :-p

I played a demo at a GameStation, and the controls really bug me. I probably won't get it just because of the controls.

i dunno, it looks like a good game but there are aspects of it that make me feel that its gonna fall way short than what everyone is expecting it to be.

I played the demo as well, and it was fun, like a Mario game, the controls were fine with me.

A minor thing bugs me, is nothing important but i was like ....ewww wtf?, and that was the bee costume that Mario wears to fly around, it looks kinda crappy.

Almost as good as Nintendogs, right?

Pretty big spoiler:

After getting all 120 Stars, if you beat Bowser again Luigi then becomes playable. The difficulty is increased because Luigi is faster and jumps higher but lacks control. This is coming from the official guide, and scans can be found with a simple google search. Not yet 100% confirmed but something pretty big if true.

Several more reviews have come out, both very good.

I played the demo and I am fine with the controls. To me it seems like it will be Super Mario 64 except with a lot of renovations. I would say that it is the sequel to 64 but Nintendo has already stated that the real sequel will be Mario 128 (although they are taking there time with the project since they are making a sequel to a game that set the standards for nearly all of the 3d platformers today)

I think I will love Super Mario Galaxy, I mean Mario has rarely ever let me down, especially with a game that had so much planning and time put into it.

Super Mario 128 is not a real game.

Zerowing, for the Toys-R-Us $25 gift card, is this confirmed in an interview or something? Do you have a source for this? (Because if it's seriously a $25 "free" card, I'm totally getting it there).

Its in a leaked version of next weeks Toys R Us ad:

I suggest preordering because many Toys R Us are running out of preorder slips which suggests you won't be able to take advantage of this deal

Launch is delayed here by at least a day, whatever, I am so getting this game tomorrow. Without having played it I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this will be the number 1 must have game for Wii for years to come.

Honestly, when has Mario ever let us down? (besides NSMB which was still dec)

Posting to confirm the Five Star quality rating this game this game seems to get from every other major gaming website out there.

The controls are so flawless it is unbelievable. If you haven't played it yet, basically you move Mario with the Nunchuk accessory, and all of the classic Mario 64 jumps still apply in this game. What's unique though is that there are these little pieces of stars flying everywhere that you point your Wiimote at the screen to collect.

I'm not sure entirely what they are about, but it seems these stars are the equivalent of Fludd (the super soaker) from Super Mario Sunshine, as you can blast them around at will.

And it appears that the levels themselves consist of several planetoids as opposed to having just one big flat level. The planetoid scheme is pretty intense too, you basically are sucked onto every rock by its gravitational pull so you never really fall off the edge (with the exception of a few "black holes" at the centre of a few planets).

This is coming from someone with only an hour of playtime btw.

I just got the game from Toys R Us with the gift card. I was hoping to get COD4 too but I'll have to wait a week when I turn 17 =P.

Oh well, because this game so far is amazing. The control and the camera take getting used to, and you can't skip the "tutorial section", but once you get used the controls, you can just realize how ambitious this is, probably the most epic Mario game to date.

I just got it and played it for a few hours. The amount of variety in the game is mind-blowing. There's never a dull moment. The music is masterful and perfectly complements all the wacky stages and situations. The graphics are bright and really draw you into the game. This very well may be the greatest Mario game ever.

I'm so looking forward to this game:D
But it doesn't come out before friday where I live... This is the longest week ever:(

I want this game so bad, but I don't have $50 extra laying around. damn. :( Maybe I can run to TRU before it opens Black Friday and get it cheap...

looks waste

Halo 3, don't bother you? COD4? Mass Effect? Assassin's Creed? Much better games that dont involve silly controls.
