hey so i'm back here

one thing I wanted to say: for reasons reasons, Ttos has been changed post-slate (but no worries it's like actually all flavor)

New Piskel-1.png (94).png

his name is now tynar. say hello to tynar. this is his new sprite.

I got nothing better to do since I am stuck in the largest storm that has hit my country directly in 150+ years, (thank you developed countries, mega corporations and their greenhouse gas contributions to climate change) so I will be having a discussion on the winners and what the metagame looks like right now.

:tyranitar: Ttos Tynar is for all intents and purposes Nat Dex Tyranitar, who trades a few stat points for some very strong tools like Sucker Punch, Spikes and even Pain Split. Expect this to be a public menace now and in the future, as Tynar has introduced real pursuit trapping into the metagame, making the lives of Ghost, Psychic and to a much lesser extent Fire types a living hell.

:Yanmega: I am personally not sure how to feel about this guy. I do appreciate the addition of a brand new metagame, and this isn't anything close to the likes of the "fodder" wins from yesteryear. Yet I can't quite think this is the worst choice for a Bug type addition by a very large margin based on what was present at the time, since I can only assume this was voted for because of "Bug rep". That being said, it's probably rather decent in wallbreaking, it's dual STABs are boosted by Sheer Force and it has Earth Power, but it comes with hella annoying caveats thanks to its x4 SR weakness, meaning you heavily cut into your survivability or your power. Stakeout struggles even more, because that is an ability that relies on punishing switches, but if you run Heavy Duty Boots, and Air Slash and Bug Buzz are your chief damage dealers, you are looking at a rough time, especially for that follow up hit without Stakeout behind it. I see Yanmega but I don't have very high expectations for it.

:corviknight: I subbed it so I will be brief. It adds an interesting offensive / defensive Flying type to the tier, not unlike Zapdos in concept, but each executes that in very different ways. The ever potent Swords Dance user, Pirotte can Punch a few good holes into teams, even if it got a few strong checks added. It's utility sets seem to be fine as well, none of its checks are not switching into a Knock Off comfortably. Very solid gluemon.

:Rotom: This guy is Rotom that trades Levitate and Nasty Plot (HUGE ngl) for everything else it could ever want on this earth. Access to Knock Off, priority, Recover, Encore even Toxic Spikes are all huge gains for something like Felp. It's ability though takes it up a notch, and makes even straight offensive sets tough to handle. Turning Poltergeist into an actual special STAB is terrifying, and can allow it to take huge chunks out a big threats. Pursuit being real sucks for it though, as is it's awkward typing, so that always puts a limit to how good offensive sets can be. But I expect big things here.

:heliolisk: Mr. Monster Hunter here serves as the traditional offensive Electric with a very different offensive profile than Big Crammer and even offensive Zapdos. It has solid unique coverage options, and also has the means of going physical, making it far more powerful and versatile with Bulk Up Extreme Speed. Speed Boost also allows both special and physical sets to be potential late game cleaners, but it's rather decent offensive stats right off that bat rein in its potential. Still, a great addition.

:Krookodile: Not my favourite Aquatic sub this round, as I think better things got subbed, and not my fav Krook from the meta either, but I digress. Cliffside is the second fastest Dark iirc, and checks quite a few Pokémon very well, especially considering it's varied but useful abilities and expansive utility options present. Stealth Rock, Defog, Taunt, Toxic, Parting Shot, Knock Off, are only scratching the service of what it can do as a pivot. It is also notable for being able to get up Rocks through the few Magic Bounce users in the tier via Mold Breaker, and offensive sets can efficiently stallbreak with Merciless. All in all a very solid pick.

:kangaskhan-mega: Nasty Bugger Mega Kanga is, even if it loses the Seismic Toss aspect. It's not an impossible Pokémon to handle but I expect it to be quite the threat off rip for many teams. Pirrote and Zapdos stocks have surely jumped up until this gets paired with Gravity sets and our checks boil down to the goat dhelmise and maybe Praying Visitor (idk how many non Gravity affected Ground resists we have‍‍‍). I'm expecting Fake Out/Return/Earthquake/Power Up Punch to be the norm, with Sucker Punch sneaking in from time to time.

All in all, interesting slate with some cool additions, I think the metagame is in a somewhat healthy space right now. Imo we can afford to get a bit stronger physical attackers and Ghost type mons due to how overwhelmingly strong the meta is against these threats, ESPECIALLY Ghost types, so more emphasis on those is expected. Otherwise the meta is doing well on paper, let's see how well we go on in the next couple of slates.
