Superachi Time! (OU RMT)

After "Lurking in the shadows" for a while on Smogon, I have finally have decided to post my latest team. This team has helped to propel me to a rating of around 1606 on the Team Uber server, which is quite good in my opinion. Anyway, this team is focused around the concept of smogon's "Superachi" set, which few people expect to see, as it is not a very common set.
All right, on to the team:
(All recent changes will be in red)

392.png

Infernape w/ Focus Sash
Blaze Ability
EVs: 252 SpA, 192 Spe, 64 Atk
Naive nature
- Fire Blast
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Stealth Rock

Most of the experienced battlers on Smogon know the power of this Infernape set. This Infernape set can break apart most leads with a combination of fake out and the right stab move, as some common leads carry the focus sash, which is rendered useless by fake out most of the time. Also, it can easily set up stealth rocks, as it out speeds pokemon up to max speed positive natured base 100s, and as it holds the focus sash also. Really, it is invaluable, as it usually sets up stealth rock early in the battle to help my sweepers succeed.

130.png

Gyarados w/ Leftovers
Intimidate ability
EVs: 184 Spe, 156 HP, 96 Def, 72 Atk
Adamant nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt

Well, what is not to love about this bulky Gyarados? It can do many things for this team. It defeats stall most of the time mainly through using taunt and by using its bulk to eventually set up a sweep. It also can switch in on many pokemon safely, such as Scizor, some Metagross, Infernape, and others due to its valuable resistances, than proceed to do a mystical dance to overwhelm the opposition. It also provides a useful teammate for Superachi, as Gyarados resists Superachi's weaknesses. All said and done, this is a very useful pokemon to have.

330.png

Flygon w/ Choice Scarf
Levitate ability
EVs: 252 Spe, 252 Atk, 4 Def
Jolly nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

Flygon performs so many good roles for this team. It is a great revenge killer, out speeding (or speed tying with) once dragon danced Salamence and Gyarados, and even outpacing modest choice scarf Latias. Flygon also resists all of Superachi’s and Gyarados’ weaknesses, making it a viable switch in to those attacks. It can even scout with U-turn, which can be very helpful in some situations. Finally, it has two great stab moves, which make up in a way for its sometimes lackluster power. Flygon is irreplaceable on this team.

121.png

Starmie w/ Choice Scarf
Natural Cure ability
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Modest nature
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Trick

I have found that the bulky rapid spinner Starmie has not helped my team much at all. Also, almost no members of my team really care about toxic spikes being laid out on the field anyway, so why have a spinner. All in all, this team isn't really weak to entry hazards. Anyway, I chose Choice Scarf Starmie to serve as a check to some threats that could sweep this team, such as sub/agility Empoleon, once dragon danced Salamence and Gyarados, etc. Also, having a modest nature is very nice, for it allows me to get to 329 speed, outspeed max speed base 100 pokemon by one point. You might think that having three choiced pokemon is a bad thing, but it really isn't all that bad. I haven't had to use trick yet, so it might come in handy sometime in the future, but I may change it for another attacking move like Psychic or Grass knot. Choice scarf Starmie has been a great addition to this team, and it can even make a sweep itself sometimes, given its high speed.

248.png

Tyranitar w/ Choice Band
Sand Stream ability
EVs: 252 Atk, 164 HP, 92 Spe
Adamant nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Earthquake

Tyranitar’s main role for this team is to be a pursuit trapper and to defeat many of Superachi’s enemies, such as Latias, Heatran, and special walls like Blissey and Snorlax. It can handily defeat all of them, or at least inflict heavy damage on them to not be able to stand in Superachi’s way. It also has some good resistances, resisting Jirachi’s fire weakness, Flygon’s ice weakness, and not being very effected by Gyarados’ weaknesses of electric and rock most of the time because of Tyranitar’s natural bulk and its ability, sand stream, which boosts its special defense to great levels. Indeed, if Tyranitar makes an appearance, it most likely means that your Heatran, Latias, or special wall will be defeated in the next few turns.

And Finally…
385.png

Jirachi w/ Leftovers
Serene Grace ability
EVs: 252 SpA, 180 Spe, 72 HP
Timid nature
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power Fire
- Calm Mind

…the star of this team arrives! Yes, if you don’t believe me, just look at its star-shaped head. Anyway, this Jirachi set is unexpected by some people, as people expect the physical sets or even the Calm Mind Substitute sets. People will often send out their Swamperts and Scizors, only to have them wiped out the next turn. (after I use Calm mind, otherwise that may not happen) Its moves are only resisted by hmmm… Latias and Heatran. Sound Familiar? Jirachi usually can sweep easily, especially when there is a sandstorm brewing and when stealth rocks are floating in the air. Jirachi is truly the “star” of the team.

I have changed:
Gyarados' Bounce to Stone Edge
Tyranitar's Aqua Tail to Earthquake
LO Heatran to Offensive Spinner Starmie
Offensive Spinner Starmie to Defensive Spinner Starmie
Defensive Spinner Starmie to Choice Scarf Starmie

Thank you for looking at this team. I would consider this team to be a “bulky offensive” team. (If I am wrong please tell me) The move sets might not be different than the normal move sets, but I believe that each of these pokemon work well together. I would appreciate any comments and advice, as I want to make this team even better than it is now.

A Final look at the team:

hello!

i like this team in that each of the members do support each other nicely, and really the way that it aims and almost definitely will achieve a superachi sweep each time is very impressive, so congratulations on that. there are, however, some small problems with the team. first off, a life orb starmie can absolutely sweep this team hands down, seeing as nothing on your team can switch in on its hydro pump even remotely safely, barring gyarados (who is ohkoed the next turn by thunderbolt)...really any water-type attacks in general are bad news for this team, as like i said before you only have one resistance. offensive suicune also troubles this team big time, as it can kill of your entire team with relative ease thanks to its amalgam of bulk, power, speed and surf + hidden power electric type coverage. electric type attacks can also be a pretty huge bitch for this team to take, as the only pokemon that can switch into them on your team is flygon, who isnt exactly a bulky pokemon to begin with.

in order to fix these problems, there are a few steps i would take. first off, i really think that you should consider a life orb latias set in flygon's place. while flygon is useful as a scout on your team, it is kinda redundant otherwise, as aside from latias and salamence it will generally be revenging / attacking pokemon that your choice band tyranitar could otherwise handle just as well if not better, such as heatran and zapdos. life orb latias brings some cool things to the table for your team however, namely a monsterous special defense stat, powerful special attacks with great type coverage, and a secondary resistance to water type attacks. use a set of dragon pulse | grass knot | hidden power fire | recover, an ev spread of 4 hp | 252 spa | 252 spe, and a timid nature. this is a more specific kind of life orb latias that i feel could benifit your team most, as it excells at specifically removing pokemon like scizor and tyranitar that are usually considered its counters. dragon pulse is used over draco meteor so that latias isnt a huge piece of pursuit bait, while grass knot hits suicune, as well as hits tyranitar and hippowdon harder than surf. now on gyarados, i would go with stone edge over bounce for a few reasons. bounce is generally used to hit water types as well as celebi, but heatran can take care of celebi marvelously, while latias (should you chose to go with her) takes care of water type pokemon well. stone edge gives gyarados a better weapon against salamence and friends, and rounds out coverage very nicely with waterfall. also im not seeing the need for hidden power electric on heatran...while it would be useful to hit waters, most water types can easily survive a hidden power electric and then ohko with a surf. either that, or they simply outspeed heatran and ohko to begin with. if i were you i would try hidden power grass instead, simply because swampert is really an extremely common switchin to life orb heatran variants.

as far as other options go, earthquake could also work pretty well in place of bounce on gyarados. speaking of earthquake, it would also be a decent choice on tyranitar in place of aqua tail. ive always found aqua tail quite redundant on choice band tyranitar as really it requires immense amounts of prediction to work, and even then tyranitar really has no business staying on on bulky ground type pokemon in the first place. you could always go for a substitute variant of heatran, with substitute as the move in place of hidden power electric / grass. the only problem with that is between life orb and the 25% health required to create a substitute, heatran will be worn down pretty quickly.

anyway, hope i helped, and good luck with your team man! ;)

Hello nice team you got here.

Few suggestions, everything seems to helping out each other, One thing that might be a problem is DDGyara you might want to switch Stone Edge to Thunder punch not missing or not OHKOing. The other thing you might want to do is switch Gyarados Bounce into payback to hit Latias and rotom who probably come out after they see Gyarados.

Also on Gyarados you might want to switch taunt to Earthquake because you wouldn't want to get totally walled by steel types.

And something a bit small you might want to change the Speed evs on Jirachi to 184 to outspeed Gliscor most of the time, because some of them carry extra speed EVS just to outspeed other Gliscor leads.

Good luck.

Sorry if I sound rude here, but don't swap Flygon out for anything. If you do swap him out, do it with another revenge killer. Swapping him for, say, Latias does a couple things. First, it lets a ton of boosting sweepers (Gyarados, Tyranitar, Salamence, things of that nature) just run right through you after they get in on a locked tyranitar or heatran. Also, you lose the oh-so-valuable immunity to thunder wave. Thunder Wave hurts your team pretty badly; losing one of the game's best switch ins to it is bad. I really think you should keep Flygon.

Replace Heatran. LO Heatran is good, but it only adds to the overall tone of your team, slow and bulky. Slow and bulky isn't bad if you have speed on your team to back it up. Relying on Flygon to beat everything over 279 speed, if you don't want to reveal Jirachi, is pretty bad. Not everything on your team has to have fantastic bulk and power. Honestly, I think an offensive spinner Starmie would fit a lot better there. A spread of 216 spe / 40 satk / 252 hp will work well. If you have your rocks down, Starmie lands a 2hko on a lot of common switchins, like Scizor so it won't be pursuit-ed to death, and Rotom so you can successfully spin. Spinning is really underrated, and that 12% is a lot, surprisingly. Your longevity is increased so much if rocks aren't up! She also provides a check to Gengar, Gyarados, Infernape, Heatran, and a host of other threats. She also lets you plow through stall since they won't have rocks up.

Other than that, solid team. Tyranitar + CM Jirachi is such a deadly combo, glad to see someone utilizing it! Good luck with the team, hope I helped

All looks good in this team, but there are just a couple of things that need changing. Having an adamant nature on the flygon would be a better option to do high damage to Zapdos after Stealth Rocks, Gyarados can take on Salamence after 1 DD instead with its Intimidate and bulk. Taunt is not always the best option to be used with Gyarados, a move such as Earthquake can do well. If you want Heatran in your team I suggest you opt for the Substitute set. It provides a better use than LO Heatran and Toxic can be used instead of Hidden Power Electric for some good damage combined with substitute. If you opt for this, change the nature to Timid.

Thank you for your comments.
For Snorlaxe: I will seriously consider having Latias instead of Flygon, but for now I am keeping Flygon. I have now changed Gyarados' bounce to stone edge and Tyranitar's aqua tail to earthquake.

For Abutom: Gyarados' moves stay as they are right now. I will consider changing Jirachi's EVs, though.

For Bad Ass: I appreciate your suggestion about Flygon. I might change it out for another choice scarfer, but for now it stays as it is. I will defnitely consider replacing Heatran for Starmie, as that set sounds great.

For PalaceMavenSpenser: Flygon needs to be jolly to outspeed choice scarf Latias. I already have mentioned responses to your other comments.

Again, thank you for your suggestions. I will cnsider all of them as I try to make this team better.

Hey steel dragons, very solid team! First off Choice Band Tyranitar + Jirachi is indeed a very dangerous combo. The fact that most players tend to use Choice Scarf Tyranitar over Choice Band nowadays can really give you the edge since it is not as expected as it used to be. (I was one of those people who fell for it ^_^ ) And it can force some people to make switches and take huge hits for it.

I don't use Stealth Rock so it allowed easy switches but it could definitely be a problem for your team as I see you switching a lot and U-turning with Flygon for opportunities to set up. So I advise you make Starmie semi bulky to take hits better because once it provides a lot of checks to several threats and can even for opponents into tight situations. Also be careful with letting Gyarados switch into attacks because the damage it takes can rack up and with no recovery moves plus Stealth Rock still on the field it could be problematic. I would also replace Surf with Hydro Pump for Starmie as it can place a dent in several Pokemon. But I prefer power over playing it safer with Surf. But since you placed EV's into its Special Attack I guess it is not much of a problem.

Overall I definitely dont see any gaping weaknesses, I mean a couple Pokemon could be annoying but you handle it quite well and your team works very well together. Be careful however with Flygon being your only serious counter or revenge killer to Salamence because if it is down to a speed tie there is a chance you could lose and get hit first for the KO. Oh and SpecsMence is a problem to this team XD

Haha nice team though!

hey i just skimmed over youre team and saw you were thinking of using the bulky spin starmie, and i say go for it! i use it and it is just amazing. the only thing to watch out for are u-turn scizors and pursuit tyranitars. but really its very effective at its role on my team. heres what mine looks like

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EV's: 252SPE/ 176 DEF/ 80 HP
Timid Nature (+spe - atk)
-Thunderwave
-Surf
-Recover
-Rapid Spin

if you dont think you need the speed then just put those extra ev's into HP, but i have a fear of attacking second so i utilize this thing's speed. anyway this set is great, i usually switch it in early to blow away whatever the foe's roserade or skarmory or smeargle put out. but i found its better to use thunderwave first just to see if they bring out a spin blocker (which is usually a revenge killer in the later game... rotom/gengar/mismagius) in that case you just spoiled their speed and revenging abilities. then theyll most likely switch then you spin. this strategy works more often than not and for when it doesnt work, you have a nasty fast recover.

hope this helped good luck with the team!
