1. Introduction

Hey! Thanks for checking out this RMT! Been having a ton of fun with the DLC, and this is one of the first teams I've made that I've really liked the concept and applications of, it definitely feels unfinished, which is why I'm seeking some help!

This team is clear of new Pokemon, and uses two particularly unseen Pokemon in the OU tier, Suicune and Cresselia. How does this team fare within the new landscape of DLC2 Gen 9 OU? I've been floating between 1500s and 1700s with it, and seem to really cap out at 1700.

2. Team + Description

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Scald

The main star of the team, Suicune is our main win condition. The main goal of this team is to support it's PP-Stalling shenanigans throught sub/protect spam, and then be in a position to sweep with Calm Mind or spread Scald Burns.

EV's are pretty standard, we opt for max speed to outspeed as many things as possible, as well as speed-tying with Hisuian Samurott, Max HP allows our substitutes to tank a Seismic Toss. Tera Dark is essentially necessary, our team has no other Dark types, and it is essentially vital to absorb Stored Power, Psyshock as well as Future Sight, a bunch of moves that can be extremely problematic for Suicune.

Cresselia @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lunar Dance
- Trick
- Ice Beam
- Moonblast

Cresselia may sound like a surprising pick, but is mainly there for it's signature move, Lunar Dance. Now here's the thing, Suicune can only PP stall so much, eventually it'll either run low on PP itself, or be very low HP, even worse it may potentially get statused, which is very much a death sentence for it. Cresselia is there to remedy this, as it can sacrifice itself to completely heal Suicune's HP, PP as well as it's status condition! This is obviously a very commitful slot, which is why we give it a choice scarf so it can usually hit this maneuver first, also giving it access to Trick to cripple bulky walls on the opposing team. Ice Beam and Moonblast are the coverage picks of choices, to hit things like Gliscor and Lando-T super effectively, while Moonblast also 2hko's most offensive dark types in the tier (bar kingambit). In a pinch, Cresselia can also act as a last ditch check to setup sweepers by tricking them a scarf and locking them into a coverage option, especially if they use Tera to bypass our defensive mons:

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave

Clefable smooths out much of the team quite well, giving us very valuable Wish support, as well as a Knock Absorber, Status Absorber, as well as a great Status Spreader. Thunder Wave is very important here, heavily crippling multiple setup sweepers, like Roaring Moon, Gouging Fire and DD Kyurem, which can rapidly grow out of control if left unchecked. Paralysis is also an incredibly useful status to spread for Suicune, allowing it to outspeed many of the faster Pokemon in the meta, as well as fish for Paralysis procs under Substitute. Moonblast is just the coverage option of choice, to hit stuff like Great Tusk hard.

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Iron Defense
- Defog
- Body Press

Corviknight acts as our main form of speed Control, as well as a general check to most Physical Attackers. Another benefit of Corviknight is that it also acts as a second Pressure Pokemon, allowing us to PP stall even further, incapacitating Pokemon much easier. Rocky Helmet is standard, Corviknight is very likely to get knocked during a game, and Helmet just tends to generate more progress than Leftovers do. Tera Water is to deal with Gouging Fire mainly, but is also an emergency check for stuff like Weavile and Fire types in general.

Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 224 HP / 32 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- U-turn
- Court Change
- Will-O-Wisp

Cinderace is the addition I'm the least certain on, but it solves a few of the main problems of the team. Hazard removal is fairly important for this team, because Suicune is heavily reliant on leftovers recovery for it's main gameplan to work, Gholdengo in particular is a hard pill to swallow for the team, because it can sit on Corviknight. Cinderace acts as both a check to Gholdengo, but also some form of speed Control. It is also an emergency Kyurem check, being able to tank Two Specs Modest Ice Beams from it 99% of the time.

Clodsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Poison Sting

Clodisre is our final pokemon and a fairly important one at that, being our main SpDef wall, as well as our only Unaware Pokemon on the squad. Moveset is fairly standard, with the exception of Poison Sting. This move allows us to stay on the field and sit around, due to it's monstrous 56 pp, while still having a 30% chance to Poison. It's especially helpful for Sub/Glare Serperior, as it truly allows us to sit on it while it cannot kill us. Leftovers is preferred due to it's passive recovery, helping in the aforementioned matchup, while we also have decent ways of removal already.

3. Team Usage Tips:

- Suicune is the team player
The main thing to keep in mind is to keep Suicune alive at all costs. Suicune is pretty much our only wincon, if it dies, we're pretty much fucked. Don't let it get statused, especially keep status Dragapult in mind, as it's moves bypass Subsitute, Lunar Dance Cress can heal this once, but don't count on it. DO NOT LET SUICUNE GET KNOCKED, it's pretty much a death sentence.

- Understand what to do against hazard leads
Many offensive teams will immediately want to vomit hazards, which can be a bit problematic:

:glimmora:
go clod and kill it, maybe get a layer of spikes up if it doesn't seem to have mortal spin.

:deoxys-speed:
Go Clefable and Twave it, it basically becomes a non-issue afterwards, as Suicune easily sits on it.

:samurott-hisui:
Go clefable and decide wether you twave or just 2hko it with moonblast, both are usually fine, but it depends on the MU.

:smeargle:
Cinderace and U-turn, figure out the best sleep sack. Tricking r1 with Cresselia can also sometimes work, at the cost of an asleep Cress.

:Ribombee:
A bit rough, you'll prob have to just go Clod and take the Stun Spore, but usually you can get some spikes layers up, or fish for a poison sting poison proc on an expected switch.

:torkoal:, :pelipper:

One huge advantage of Suicune is that it matches up super well into both Rain and Sun, not only does Suicune sit on both Torkoal and Pelipper and basically get a free substitute up, but you can stall Rain and Sun turns with Protect/Substitute spam, usually allowing you to have a great MU.

- Get Suicune in as much as you can
Suicune makes a ton of progress whenever it's on the field by virtue of it sapping PP, as well as the constant pressure of it threatening a sweep with CM. Bring it in on stuff like a Corv or a Skarm when you expect a heal, this can give you free sub opportunities.

4. Threat List
:hatterene:
This isn't impossible to deal with, but it can be very problematic. CM+Draining Kiss+Psyshock can force our Tera Dark early, while prot/sub spam can heavily drain our HP with proper predictions from it. It can also always have Nuzzle, so keep on guard for it. Know when to bring Suicune on it to start draining PP, and be ready to Lunar Dance it back to full health or pass it a wish.

:roaring_moon:
Incredibly tough setup sweeper, get Clef in on it immediately and Twave it, ID Corviknight should be able to deal with it aftewards. In a pinch, Corviknight is potentially able to 1v1 it, but proto attack +1 Knock Off requires you to roost on the turn they do it, which leads to problems if they just DD a second time, essentially making it a 50/50. Taunt also blows.

:gouging_fire:
Very similarly to Roaring Moon, if you don't already have Suicune in, you kinda have to go Hard Clef to get it Twave'd.

:kyurem:
This mf beats stall in every shape and form, both Specs and DD variations are incredibly scary. Figure out which one it is as soon as possible, specs requires you to Tera Suicune as soon as possible while being healthy, this should allow you to start CMing on it. DD on the other hand has to be dealt with by Corv. If it's tera Fire, get it Twaved.

Water Absorb:
:ogerpon-wellspring:, :clodsire:, :volcanion:, :gastrodon:

The main offender is Ogerpon, absorbing Scald makes it incredibly tough to deal with, as well as the fact it can Encore Suicune. You can potentially be fine if you Twave it with Clef, allowing you to PP stall all of it's Grass Move PP. The rest aren't as big of an issue, as you PP stall them more reliably, they just make Scald a much less spammable option behind a sub.

:gholdengo: + Hazard Stack
This is just incredibly rough for us, while Suicune can usually beat Gholdengo 1v1, it forcing us to take a lot of hazards damage sucks a lot, making Suicune a lot less reliable as a wincon. In this MU we have to play ultra agressive, get our Suicune in before hazards go up, and worst case scenario, we get one chance to court change them away.

5: Replays:

Replay collection was a bit tough, due to over 50% of games won ending up in forfeits, but here are a few :P, will probably update with more

Thanks a lot for reading! This is a pretty unorthodox style of team, so I'm extremely open to suggestions, I'd very much like to see if there's a world where this kind of strategy fares well in the OU metagame :).

You sir, are based

just fix up that cress set and change cune’s evs and you’ll have my attention

edit: 252 HP 40 Def 216 Spe would be better for suicune, since vincune needs some more physical bulkyand calm mi d is cress’s best set however lunar dance could be used if you’re serious about stalling

The 40 extra defense is not impactful enough to not want to outspeed Gholdengo, max speed is the way to go on Suicune.

And yes, I'm serious about stalling if you couldn't tell lol
