Project SV DOU Teambuilding Competition v3: Week 27 (Gouging fire)

Congrats to malaow3 for winning!

This week's Pokemon is in fact not a Pokemon at all but instead a move:

Trick Room is one of the most defining moves in Doubles, with its dimension twisting properties allowing Pokemon that wouldn't see success otherwise due to their slow speed such as Torkoal and Diancie to thrive. You do not need to use any one specific Pokemon on your team. As long as at least one Pokemon has the move Trick Room it will be valid.

Building ends on Thursday 6th

One of my favorite teams I’ve ever built finally gets a home:

:vespiquen::diancie::sinistcha::porygon2::moltres-galar::ursaluna:

https://pokepast.es/fb560bf5ca28e6bd

While this team was originally built as a gimmick, it ended up being much more solid than anticipated, in large part thanks to the strength of the TR archetype. Diancie and Ursaluna are able to throw out powerful spread moves, and are well supported with mons that are able to take care of the pokemon they are unable to break.

The team had a “gimmick” mode where you turn 1 side u turn vespiquen into Tera grass diance, proc WP, switch to sinistcha, heal, set trick room, and then you have a +2 diancie next to redirection under TR, resulting in a very strong position for turn 2 and beyond.

Moltres Galar offers some ability to set up and beat a lot of the pokemon that would give this team trouble, such as incineroar, sinistcha, or rillaboom.

Porygon2’s absurd bulk and great coverage and sinistcha’s utility make them great TR setting partners for the three offensive moms mentioned above.

Lastly, vespiquen is able to safely pivot in teammates with its slow u-turn (slower than the contested base 50 speed!) and can provide utility next to sweepers with pollen puff and helping hand. Sunny day was put there as an archaludon counter (and believe it or not it worked!) but now that the bridge fell that moveslot can probably be replaced. By what? Who knows, this Pokemon doesn’t get many other viable moves.

This team was able to climb up to top 150 on DOU ladder and took an account from 15-0 to 30-0 in some of the funniest games of all time.

Vespiquen ladder session if anyone wants to watch:

Only the finest trick room team I made at 1 in the morning

:Indeedee-F: :Iron Hands: :Hoopa-Unbound: :Diancie: :Sinistcha: :Snorlax:

The objective is to go for Belly Drum or Sword Dance with Lax/Hands set up trick room with another mon then start doing damage or just let Hoopa or Diance attack.

Sinistacha provides support for the physical sweepers with Life Dew and Rage Powder as well as being a trick room setter not immediately afraid of Rillaboom.

I was using Belly Drum+Rockslide Iron Hands earlier but found SD+Ice Punch was more consistent you could use that if you want or replace Sinistacha with Torkoal/Armarouge if you want more fire power.

Here's my take on a Gouging Fire team -- far from perfect, but it does have the ability to enable some of the other physical attackers on the team which can snowball quickly.
