Metagame SV Doubles UU - Updated Sample Teams!

Like to ask in whats the viability of cetitan because for is a really strong Mon i dont seen It been with many uses, same things with hydrapple
Hey there's definitely potentially strong pokemon that aren't listed on the VR, they may just be underexplored! Generally speaking though, stuff like Cetitan and Hydrapple are not bad, they're just outclassed by Pokemon on the VR. For instance, Cetitan generally isn't as good as something like Baxcalibur, and Hydrapple has a lot of competition from other grass types like Brute Bonnet, Ogerpon-Cornerstone, and Wo-Chien. But maybe those pokemon do have a niche that just hasn't been proven yet!

I use normally cetitan with baxca in the same teams and the mon that really breaks the enemy mon is usually cetitan. In the hydra case I love using It in trick room and i have same succed with It in a sand team, so i just want to know is what people feel about that two or other poke that dont like for same reason for example i really dislike confey because of the hability giving in a +3 in priority in drainig kiss

Dont ask me how and why i end up in that elo. I dont even know it

Some quick DUU news:

With the conclusion of the DUU Swiss tournament (Congrats to MADARAAAA for winning!) and the July tier shift, DUU is looking to update its resources. We'll have a VR update coming soon, but we're also looking to update our sample teams, so if anyone has any submissions, please reach out to me!

Hey, that's my name up there ! =)

I think an introduction is in order:

Hi, I'm Evan and I've been playing DUU since the Pokemon Home release. If you ever played a Sneasler before it was in DUU, yeah, that was probably me and I do not apologize for the shenanigans I pulled back then. If you ever need some help with team building or testing, always ready and willing to help.

Now then, seems like we need some new Sample teams. HAVE YOU HEARD:

https://pokepast.es/1252027917b8255e

That's it, that's the name of the team I build. But I do think it's pretty solid.

Now for a little explanation (I don't know how to do drop-downs help)

Since we lost Ting to the powers above, I've decided not to go with the objectively correct option in building a psyspam team and bring you a team revolving mainly around Moltres-g and Garchomp

Moltres is really strong and in my opinion underexplored Mon. I bring you what I think is the most potent set: Fiery Wrath and Air Slash are the most consistent and strongest attacks it gets while also making use of their respective STABs. Nasty Plot boosts said moves into making it one of the most threatening things you can have on the field, especially combined with Weakness policy. This bird can get out of control really quickly because of this. Tailwind is a really nice support option, but I can also see Protect being valid. I've EV'D Moltres to always live a Choice Specs Solar Power Heat Wave from a Charizard in the Sun (barring Crits). This soy sauce covered chicken is definitely a strong threat and in my eyes a solid high A-Tier.

Has there ever been a time where Garchomp was bad? Not mid, just bad? I don't think so, so here we have Cynthia's golden boy. Earthquake from a Garchomp is almost iconic in its damage output, plus it works really with the Blackbird discussed above. Side by side and set up these two will shred pretty much everything in front of them. Swords dance boosts EQs power even more , while Scale Shot also adds a greatly appreciated Speed boost. Loaded dice ensures that Gar also gets off some decent damage on top of that. And now for the final trick in its arsenal I introduce: Tera Fairy Tera Blast. Imagine getting hit by the physical equivalent of a Moonblast by a Garchomp. Yeah not the most pleasant experiences methinks. Tera Fairy also fulfills a defensive role here, making the land shark immune to any and all Dragon type attacks while having Fairy types as a neutrality. Steel and poison types that typically would be a problem still get KO'd by Earthquake so it's a net positive investment. Plus you now have the most intimidating fairy I've ever seen. EVs are pretty simple, just max Attack, Max Speed and a bit of special bulk. The usual good stuff, I think Garchomp belongs in A-Tier.

While I am too lazy to google what a Triage is I don't need Google to realize how broken the ability is. A pretty much undisputed Healing move with priority is insane to have in DUU. Add to that the fact that you can also pick off some weakened opponents through Giga Drain and Draining Kiss makes Comfry even more incredible. Well, unfortunately the offenses are stopped by Psychic terrain. But you know what isn't stopped? Floral Healing. You will pretty much always be able to heal your Partner by at least 50%, more if there's a Thwakey or Arboliva on the field. The incredible think about this thing is the fact that you don't need any EV investment to do all this, Triage takes care of everything. Thus, you can focus the EVs on bulk, Maxing out HP and Defense, or, in the case if my little flower veil, invest a bit in special attack and add Calm mind, making Comfey a bulky win condition. Unironically busted, broken and other words starting with "b" conveying a sense of strength. S-Tier, and I will die on this hill.

I just couldn't help myself. I just had to include one of my favourite Pokemon of all time: Paya the Sneasler is here to beat the snot out of you while laughing in your face. Through the use of my Patented Normal Gem Fake out™ Gimmick you immediately get fastest Pokemon in the tier(yes, faster than Regieleki) while also supporting the team a bit. Close Combat, Dire Claw and Acrobatics are really strong options to have, especially Acrobatics in combination with Tera Flying. You can drop any of the moves for Swords Dance tho, I used a similar set before. The Tera Type also serves a defensive role, making the weasel immune to Garchomp's Earthquakes. Sneasler is a pretty strong glass cannon, so the EV complete invest in Attack and Speed; investing in bulk seems kinda pointless to me. I may be biased here, but I think Sneasler is low S, high A-Tier.

This is not my dawg. I do not like Smeargle at all, but the Utility it brings is immaculate. First, the ability: While Mood is far more popular, I feel like own tempo is a better choice in hyper offense, since you can ignore Fake out without having to waste your Tera on the dog. Speaking of Fake Out, Barfs' moveset is, as is standard, purely supportive: Fake Out to help with setup, Decorate to boost your sweepers, Spiky Shield for longevity and punishing offensive plays and Spore to annoy the everloving hell out of your opponents. Max HP, max Speed, you know the drill by now. Smeargle has a lot of potential and is really underestimated right now. I'd put it in low A, high B-Tier for now.

Finally, we have one of the GOATs of Gen 6: Mence. This dragon is here for support, inspired by its surge in popularity during VGC Reg D. Intimidate and Breaking Swipe help shut down physical attackers while also dealing solid damage, Rock slide is generally funny, Tailwind as an alternative speed control option to Moltres and Protect/Roar. Protect is, again just generally helpful while Roar can get rid of set-up sweepers. I'll be honest, I don't know what the best EV spread for Salamence would be, but I currently have Max Speed, a good chunk of Attack and bit of bulk. This can definitely be refined. Salamence is B-Tier in my eyes, but it fits well with this team specifically

Now for some honorable mentions for the VR:
Lurantis => C-Tier
Those who know me know that Lurantis is my absolute favourite Pokemon of all time, so I had to include it here. While Ting-Lu was still with us, Lurantis was a real threat, being a potent Trick Room sweeper with contrary. I used a Superpower, Tera Stellar Tera Blast set with a Focus Sash, turning the Pseudo-Bug to a bulky attacker fairly quickly. But, since we lost the elk, the viability plummeted, but I still believe in my little plant and the niche it can fill.

Regieleki => Low A-Tier

Bolt beam 200 base speed. Why don't people use this thing more often? Really good speed control while still dealing solid damage

Porygon2 => S-Tier

Hoooooooooolyyy how is this thing in DUU? Eviolite Porygon2 is so bulky, Trace can be really good, download is insane, regular Tera Blast hits pretty hard, Bolt Beam coverage is, usual, busted and the Trick room support is crazy

Fezandipiti => A-Tier

Surprised I put this femboy on here? This is a really strong and annoying support mon thanks to toxic chain. Tailwind, icy wind, beat up, U-turn, dazzling gleam, I could go on... I'm surprised how this thing is flying under everyone's radar. I used it on a justified Cobalion team and it hard carried

Cobalion => B-Tier

Speaking of which, here we have a solid justified Mon. It's pretty ok, but the lack of attack is noticeable. The upside to using it is solely that it can't get poisoned, making it a good Fezandipiti Partner™. However, if you're in need of a justified Mon, max I interest you in:

Terrakion => A-Tier

Justified Beat up boosted Rock slide by a Terrakion should be studied by mathematicians because this thing is insane. It's decently fast and with Tera Steel you don't have to worry about Toxic Chain from the poison bird. I have several teams with these three that I absolutely adore, these guys are amazing, but not broken.

Talonflame => high-B-Tier

The final Mon I wanted to talk about is this flailing chicken. Gale wings is a really solid ability for setting up Tailwind and using priority Brave birds. The utility of Will-o-Wisp is also not to be underestimated. I used to run a hyper offensive core of Regieleki, Sneasler and Talonflame for leads about a year ago and it served me really well. I think it still has some sauce that people are just dropping for easier to use Mons like Murkrow that aren't as good in the long run.

And there you have it: my takes on the format as of now and a silly little sample. Glad to see the tier evolve and grow in player count and I can't wait for the seasonal.

With that in mind, remember: When in doubt, Rock slide one out
(also sorry for terrible spelling, I suck at that)

Some October updates as Invitationals are around the corner! First, congrats to bagel for winning the DUU Seasonal! The circuit standings have been updated, you can check out where you stand at this link! Remember only the top 8 will qualify for invitationals, but there's quite a few of us within striking distance. We just need to do well in the DUU Last Chance tournament, which signups can be found for here!

Next, the October tier shifts brought two changes to DUU Eligibility:

Basculegion-F moved from DUU to DOU
Regidrago moved from DUU to DOU

Many players have seen this as welcome changes, as Basculegion-F and Regidrago were seen as two of the toughest threats in the builder. We've updated the VR & Sample Teams to reflect these new eligibilities.

Congratulations to the above individuals, and thank you to everyone who participated in the circuit! Now let's see who can take home the prize!

DUU Invitationals & Last Chance Teamdump
Had a lot of fun building & playing this tier over the last several months. Gave me the chance to bring some pretty whacky ideas into a meta where I believe there are a large amount of viable Pokemon. I have 11 teams to pass along all of which I give permission to be samples ( Actuarily ), as well as some VR noms that I believe are a bit underlooked at this minute.

Requesting immediate action or at least a survey on basculegion-F. After spending a few months with the tier without its inclusion (as well as drago) I can safely say that this tier is MUCH better off without this pokemon in it. Rain has been a consistently viable top tier archetype for awhile now even without basc clicking last respects and wave crash on everything in existence and allowing basc back in the tier will only serve to reinforce rain's dominance to an unhealthy degree, let alone the damage basc can cause outside of rain. Losing Volcanion, one of the best stabilizers and metagross checks in the format, is already a huge blow to teambuilding options in the foemat and being forced to insert basc checks onto every team, especially without a top tier water absorb pokemon to sponge rain teams with, is just going to strain teambuilding and make the format extremely volatile.

I must reiterate DUU has been a great format these past few months and allowing this ridiculous fish back in the format will only take away more than it can possibly give.

VIABILITY RANKINGS NOMINATION POST

So I did some thinking and decided that I believe the VR is in need of an update, so decided to draft up my own VR. I will try to make this short and concise; hopefully my opinions on the metagame are helpful. Thank you to Glimmer for putting the idea in my head and your thoughts on this as well.

First of all, this tier has went through a massive metagame shift in my opinion over the past few months. During derby, I feel the meta was dominated by stuff that has either since been banned (Volcanion recently) or has fallen off in terms of viability. Drago and Basculegion Female being banned were great for the development of the tier and allowed new ideas to emerge in the builder. This is one of my favorite things about this tier because I think you can take almost any mon and find a way to make it viable. My tier list only scratches the surface of mons that I have found that work in this tier.

Link to the tiermaker: https://tiermaker.com/create/smogon-sv-doubles-uu-17763523 (Credits to Ev_Evan for the thumbnail image)

I am going to now attempt to break down why I have placed certain mons where they are on this list. This is by no means going to be exhaustive as I don't think I have the mental capacity to do a writeup on 70+ mons.

BAN :basculegion-f: ASAP! This mon is not healthy at all for the meta, as highlighted by Schister above. Last respects has no place in a lower power level format like this, and I think that a suspect or council vote should be conducted before the next major tour.

Tier 1: :metagross: :iron jugulis: :ogerpon-cornerstone:
These guys have been extremely splash able on the builder as of late, and fit onto pretty much any team. Jugulis is the best speed control in the tier and is a key piece in both rain and psyspam builds, as well as balance.

Tier 2:
:sneasler: best fake out in the tier, psyseed, assault vest, sash, and even choice sets are all viable.
:mew: :brute bonnet: :heatran: grouping these 3 together, all are key glue pieces on a lot of comps. With Volcanion getting banned heatran usage should rise, could see it being tier one eventually.
:Iron Crown: :indeedee: psyspam broken etc.

Tiers 3-4: All of these mons are valid on certain archetypes, but I don't believe they are as spammable as others. Tier 3 mons, specifically :scrafty: , :porygon2: , :great tusk: , and :moltres galar: are in the same regard as :mew: , :heatran: , and :brute bonnet: as big glue pieces, but they do not fit onto as many teams.

Tier 5: Niche mons, get outclassed by a lot of the mons above them but they work on certain comps and do their roles well.
:Zarude: :Ceruledge: Side note, use these mons more. They are both amazing wincons and are great into a lot of the top tiers.

I accept your opinion as undeniable fact except everything I disagree with

I manage to bypass my previous record here and this was the team, still dont know what i am doing

https://pokepast.es/d292eceb0a33739f

I Will try to commet the ideas of the moves and terras of the team but i am not really got at It

Firts is hippowdon thats is the glue of the team for making sand posibles with his ability and the item for more sand. The moves are a bit strange, body press is a consistant dmg choice, while you have the sand tomb and yawn combo to dmg a enemy a lot each turn and sleep It or force a switch only using yawn, roar/whirlwind IS the most interesting move of the hippo, normally is use to make sure opponents doesnt boost up or to roar away the trick room setter(if that dont work the hippo is the slowest It can be to help aggaints room) but also can be use to gain the upper hand, for example if exca have salt cure and you need the dmg you just attack with exca nad roar It away to saftey before saltcure effect. The guy is terra grass to help survive aggaints rain and protection to spore.

Next is kleavor whit a pretty standar set, terra ghost for fake outs, sash to ensure a move and sharpness as the ability, the movesett IS similar x-scissor and Stone axe for good stab dmg, protect to play arround and tailwind for speed control and helping shiftry with a boost.

Excadrill is just made to kill anything and drop dead 1/2 turns after enter, terra ground for more dmg in high horsepower and earthquake, two ground attacks for different situations, protect for playing around and make It better aggaints fake out, and iron head for the other stab. As i said made to destroy with life orb as the item and sand rush to over speed many Mons or with one of the 2 tail supports

Shiftry is just here for helping me aggaints spyspam, blizzard spam and rain teams whit wind rider, same reason for item, Terra and movesett idea as kleavor, the only change is protect for fake out for a firts turn surprise.

Next is krokodile, the guy is made to counter scarf basculegion with is own scarf, is running moxie has his ability instead of intimidate to run down with same walls and making It more scary in the endgames, with terra poison and gunk shot to kill every fairy(specially comfey) and Cc to kill galarian moltres (2 hits and normally survive fiery wrath, and 1 hit when they terra dark that happens pretty often), also know off for that bascu mach up and eq just to destroy the while zone doent matter if your other mon dies is only fuel for the crocodile

And lastly the dog from hell houndstone, sand rush to use a fast last respects to make sure whatever It hits disapere, protect to help survive and letting opponents sleep from a yawn of the hippo(one of the most commun endgame with the team), shadow sneak to kill low hp mons mostly bascu in rain, and terra dark to make sure It survive spyspam and other last respects, with crunch to hit normal types like indeede and oranguru, the item this time is a lum berry for mostly t wave thundurus and Spore from bonnet

Well i Hope you understant what you ready Up there because i didnt, have a nice day

hey sorry if this is a dumb question but I was wondering if Ganlon berry ghost tera relaxed Greedent running the moves stuff cheeks, rest/protect, body press, and stockpile with the ability cheek pouch could be viable in doubles UU or bellow if ran in a trick room team?

Anything can work, especially with the right teammates. While I do appreciate the ingenuity, I think that set will struggle to be able to pull all of that off. You basically need multiple turns to properly set up, through which your opponent can take a number of counter measures, like taunt/whirlwind/roar/haze/knock off the berry, or just double target the Greedent with powerful attacks. Beyond that, unfortunately that Greedent is unable to hit opposing ghost types, meaning things like Spectrier, Basculegion-F, Dragapult, and others you won’t be able to beat with something your team is built around.

I think your best bet if you’re looking to be able to be as viable is possible is to use other body press pokemon, like Kommo-o, Garganacl, Corviknight, etc. But don’t let me stop you using your favorite pokemon or sets if you’re having fun with it!

Wanted to give some updates for DUU happenings:

Firstly, and I apologize for not posting this earlier, congratulations to LogIce for winning the 2024 DUU Circuit Championship! Both them and the 2nd place player were paid their winnings.

The new 2025 DUU Circuit has been posted at the top of this thread. The short of it is that there will again be three tournaments that will conclude with an invitational. This new invitational will include 12 participants. The three circuit tournament winners will receive automatic bids, and then the remaining spots will be filled by the players that accumulate the most circuit points. It will be seeded by circuit points.

We also want to take a minute and thank some DUU councilmembers who are stepping down, n10siT and Nido-Rus. Thank you both for all your work that you've done for the tier and the leadership you've provided. With those vacancies, we want to welcome some new faces to the DUU council: LogIce and xqiht . Both players have been very active in the DUU circuit with great results and have a passion for the tier, so we're very excited to have them on.

Be on the lookout for a new updated VR coming soon!

I am thoroughly obsessed with Psycho boost eject pack speed deoxys, so I tried making a functioning team with him in it.

Captura de pantalla 2025-02-12 175200.png

-Deoxys-Speed:
Of course, it needs to have psycho boost and eject pack. I gave him icy wind for speed control, protect for staying on the field and rock slide to hit flying types and flinch. Mostly support with a 1 time use nuke button (kinda).

-Brute bonnet:
Slow, specially bulky and packs a punch, spore to sleep, sucker punch for priority and seed bomb for damage. Protect allows it to stall while one of the supports lowers their speed.

-Sableye:
A bit of flinch here, a tad of burn there, encore for punishing protect and foul play to not be dead weight.

-Dragapult:
The second nuke button. Choice specs draco meteor to annihilate anything it touches, shadow ball and flamethrower for coverage. U-turn to get out jic.

-Heatran:
Slowish special attacker, needs icy wind to outspeed others, hits both mons like a truck.

-Cryogonal:
The team fixer. I needed a mon that could clear hazards and reset stats, turns out he can do both, is specially bulky, decently fast and also has speed control. I also gave it reflect and light clay, since I wasn't sure what else to give it, but if ya'll have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Some openings can be Sableye and Bonnet, to sleep a mon safely, Cryogonal and Dragapult to spam draco meteor or Heatran and Deoxys to slow down enemies, then eject into any other member that fits the situation.

The viability rankings have been updated! Thanks to everyone who voted.

After some recent discussions about Basculegion-F’s place in the tier, the duu council decided to perform a suspect vote. All members of council and all players that qualified for DUU invitationals were allowed to vote, resulting in 12 voters.

While there are still votes outstanding, the result has been decided. Basculegion-F will remain legal in DUU, with Do Not Ban having received 50% of the vote already:
1740834367064.png

Here are some of the notes included in the vote:
Actuarily: The tier currently has a lot of darks (Brute Bonnett, Iron Jug, Meowscarada, Moltres-G, Scrafty), then there are a few notable normal types as well such as P2 & Indeedee, and even stuff that just outspeeds scarf Basc's like Dragapult, Regieleki, booster speed mons, leaving a lot of counters. Beyond this, it's only really effective in the late game, meaning the opponent has opportunities to set up speed control before it can fire off powerful Last Respects. It was in the meta before, and while quite good, wasn't overpowering.

LogIce: Basculegion with both adaptability and swift swim is an uncompetitive threat within the tier with access to Last Respects. Rain is one of the most oppressive compositions in the metagame, and basculegion takes it over the top. Basculegion is often paired with mons that assist it in breaking dark types, or clicks rain boosted wave crash into the mons that theoretically "check" last respects. The Mon has the ability to snowball and without prevalent sucker punch users like chien pao, can be impossible to remove in endgame scenarios.

RelicanthPrimal: there is quite a few resists in meta but rain is still too strong with this type of ridiculous BP

Thank you to everyone who participated.
