For this week, we've got a Pokemon that through the years has managed to valiantly defy powercreep to whatever extent possible. It's never ended a generation lower than UU since its release in Generation 2, and it's regarded as a fairly decent, if underrated, threat in today's OU landscape. The perennial poster child of priority moves (alongside Extreme Killer Arceus and now Dragonite), we've got the meta(l) bug in Scizor.

:sv/scizor:

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Knock Off

Choice Band Scizor finds itself a home in OU thanks to its devastating power and near-unrivaled ability to close out endgames. It's always been known for its Technician-boosted STAB Bullet Punch, granting it incredible revenge-killing and cleaning capabilities, ever since it received the move in Generation 4, and it's carried that legacy all the way to present-day OU. Its U-turn is also not to be slept on - while Bug is a poor offensive typing, Scizor still manages to hit quite hard with it. Any Steel-type not named Gholdengo or the metal birds deathly fears a Close Combat, while Gholdengo and other Bullet Punch resists like Iron Crown get destroyed by Knock Off. Can you stop this Technician from taking you apart?

Submissions end on Sunday, November 11th.
You may submit up to 1 check and 1 counter.

Iron Moth is a check to Scizor. While Scizor can potentially have a chance to 2hit ko moth if it tera steels, iron moth can always survive one hit and ko back with fiery dance. The special thing with iron moth is that with booster energy, it doesn't take increased damage from it. U-turn does pitiful damage to it, as its quad resisted. Iron Moth can even use morning sun on this set in order to keep itself healthy over the course of a game.

Toxapex is a counter to scizor. Due to regenerator and its typing, Toxapex takes so little damage from scizor. U-turn can't even outdamage regen even if stealth rocks are down. Bullet punch does so little damage that even tera steel doesn't 4hit ko. Close combat is the same, and knock off does the best damage at 36% damage, then it does 24% damage afterwards. Toxapex's surf has a chance to 4hit ko, but if toxapex switches in on cc, then it's a 3hit ko. Toxapex can use this opportunity to either toxic whatever is switching in, use infestation to chip scizor while trapping it or set up a layer of toxic spikes. The reason why toxapex is so good is because it hardly ever is getting closed to ko'd, and the scizor user needs to have max layers down while constantly chipping pex in order to actually deal with it.

Zapdos is a check. It really doesn't like having its Boots knocked off, but Zapdos' typing gives it a resistance to all of Scizor's attacks except Knock Off, which still doesn't 2HKO. Since all of Scizor's attacks make contact, it's also at grave risk of being Paralyzed by Static. Aside from that, in return, Zapdos can threaten an OHKO with Heat Wave, or a 2HKO if Scizor has Terastallized, barring any Sp. Def drops from Close Combat.

Tera Water is chosen here to maintain Zapdos' resistance to Bullet Punch without exposing it to any potential OHKOs from Scizor's other attacks. Close Combat does 2HKO afterwards, but Zapdos is faster and Scizor is locked into it.

Pelipper is a counter. While getting your Damp Rock knocked off is obviously undesirable, that's about the most threatening thing Scizor can accomplish against Pelipper, barring rare tech like Dual Wingbeat, and since Scizor is locked in, it's not like it can just do that at any time. In return, Pelipper can knock off Scizor's Choice Band, further limiting its damage output, 2HKO with Rain-boosted Surf, or U-turn out on a predicted switch.

Does not enjoy Knock Off but can otherwise switch in for free. If you switch in on a U-Turn and end up getting Flame Body that's just cruel. I don’t know why you would need to Tera but I chose Tera Water to maintain Bullet Punch resistance and Tera Electric can also be used to flip matchups against Electric types at the cost of now being Ground weak. You can do anything you want to Scizor, really.
What separates Moltres from Zapdos is that if for some reason you switch out, Scizor can still go first if you don't get a full para turn. But with Scizor burned, Scizor going first doesn't really matter anymore. Moltres is also considerably less passive than other stallmons.

Corviknight is a check. It switches in very well and punishes Scizor with Rocky Helmet chip, especially if it clicks U-turn. It takes every hit except for Close Combat, which 3HKOes. However, with rocks up and a bit of Chip, Scizor can 2HKO on the switch with CC. However, CC lock is incredibly exploitable for a lot of teams since basically every single team has at least one fighting immunity/resist because of Zamazenta. Scizor can also only click CC 4 times into Corv with its 8 PP, and over the course of the game Scizor can be pivoted around to stall out Close Combat. ID variants can use Scizor locked into Bullet Punch as setup fodder, and Defog can remove Rocks for itself and its teammates. Both sets can also use Scizor for free momentum with U-turn.

Congratulations, your sets will be added to our Hall of Fame! This week, we'll be looking at another Pokemon that's been bugging the OU tier recently - the metagame has been kind to this early-route Bug-type and its excellent ability and offensive movepool has let it eclipse every other Bug in the tier. Can you stop Lokix from leaving a lasting impression?

Tinted Lens is an incredible ability, granting Lokix fantastic offensive coverage which even Pokemon that typically fare well against Dark- and Bug-types will struggle to handle. Knock Off is a high-power STAB option that heavily punishes attempts to defensively switch in on Lokix, while Leech Life provides consistent damage that comes with health recovery to offset any Life Orb recoil taken. Sucker Punch is a strong form of priority that takes advantage of Tinted Lens removing resistances, further powered up by Tera Dark to threaten OHKOs on common threats that may try to revenge kill it. With additional multipliers from Swords Dance and an Adamant nature, Lokix can clean up endgames even when a team's defensive pieces are intact and ready to "answer" it. What will you do to take on Lokix?

Yup, you read that right: Clefable is only a check, not a counter. Thanks a lot, Tera Dark Lokix.

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lokix: 318-374 (112.3 - 132.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Tinted Lens Tera Dark Lokix Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 224-265 (56.8 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Thanks to Dondozo's insane natural bulk, it can hard switch in on anything, Curse, Rest, and Lokix becomes setup fodder if it doesn't knock itself out first with LO recoil and Unaware means SD doesn't matter.

252+ Atk Life Orb Tera Dark Lokix Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 169-200 (33.5 - 39.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

While you can't hard switch in if they Tera Dark or are boosted, Lokix cannot do anything to stop itself from just getting obliterated by First Impression as long as Slither Wing gets in safetly.

252+ Atk Life Orb Tinted Lens Tera Dark Lokix Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Slither Wing: 309-367 (99.3 - 118%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance

Dragonite can survive one +2 Tera Dark LO Knock Off from Lokix and can set-up. Then a +1 Tera Normal E-Speed KOs Lokix, the KO being guaranteed thanks to LO chip.
:dragonite: +1 252+ Atk Tera Normal Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Lokix: 270-318 (95.4 - 112.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

"Counter"... you can not include this if you want:
:sv/granbull:

Granbull
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 20 Atk / 240 Def
Impish Nature
- Play Rough
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Close Combat

No item to minimize Knock Off damage, and 20 EVs in attack to guarantee the KO. Granbull can safely come in on Lokix thanks to Intimidate. OHKOs with Play Rough. Very flawed, as Granbull can't even switch in on even a +1 Lokix, even without an item
:granbull: 8+ Atk Granbull Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Dark Lokix: 306-362 (108.1 - 127.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Indeedee is one of very few Pokemon that can consistently beat Lokix without taking any damage. It doesn't care about Sucker Punch thanks to Psychic Surge, and it outspeeds and KOs with Dazzling Gleam.

252 SpA Choice Specs Indeedee Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lokix: 364-430 (128.6 - 151.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Just a question, if Pokemon B knocks out Pokemon A, but faints due to recoil, can it still be considered a check/counter?
Or if Pokemon A faints to recoil whilte knocking out Pokemon B.

Check? Counter? Neither?

Weezing-Galar @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Neutralizing Gas
EVs: 248 HP / 224 Def / 32 SpA
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast

- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp

Weezing's new improved version resists both of Lokix's STAB moves while Neutralizing Gas negates any interactions from Tinted Lens. This isn't the normal spread I would run on this set, but it gets a few nice calcs as shown below:

+6 252+ Atk Life Orb Lokix Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 228+ Def Neutralizing Gas Weezing-Galar: 246-290 (73.8 - 87%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

32 SpA Neutralizing Gas Weezing-Galar Strange Steam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lokix: 284-336 (100.3 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

(or just run max HP / Speed with Bold Nature for Kingambit in real life).
