Project SV OU - Victim of the Week (Week 74: Assault Vest Hoopa-U)

:sv/garganacl:

Garganacl @ Leftovers
Ability: Purifying Salt
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Def / 204 SpD
Tera Type: Fairy
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Salt Cure
- Recover
- Earthquake

Garganacl is a check. It doesn't like switching into Focus Blast unless it has already Terastallized, at which point Hurricane becomes a 2HKO instead, but outside of that, none of Tornadus' attacks do much to it on their own. In return, Garganacl can either set up, heal off the damage, or immediately threaten Salt Cure chip for either Tornadus itself or whatever it inevitably switches to.

Congratulations, your sets will be added to our Hall of Fame! And apologies for the delay as I'm back for another week, hope you're ready to take on another lower-tier Pokemon with a higher-tier niche that has given it a very respectable placement on the OU Viability Rankings - can anything handle this member of the Loyal Trio?

:sv/Okidogi:
Okidogi @ Leftovers
Ability: Guard Dog
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 160 SpD / 96 Spe
Careful Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch / Gunk Shot
- Bulk Up

A solid toolkit, great stats, and a unique combination of defensive typing and ability give Okidogi a niche in OU filled by no other Pokemon. Its strong set of resistances combined with Guard Dog allow it to take on opposing sweepers that would look to phase it out, and Tera Ghost adds some extra insurance against even IronPress users looking to beat it 1v1 while nullifying its few weaknesses. Drain Punch serves the purpose of being a consistent STAB option that also provides it with additional longevity, and Knock Off not only removes opposing items but also targets Ghost- and Psychic-types that would otherwise be able to take it on. Ice Punch easily dispatches some of the tier's defensive staples while also providing valuable coverage against Flying-types, while Gunk Shot is a devastating STAB option that can be used for its massive base power and ability to hit Fairies. With Attack and Defense boosts from Bulk Up along with a specially defensive EV spread, Okidogi proves hard to take down before it snowballs out of control. What can deal with this dangerous dog?

Click Hydro Pump and 2HKO. If Okidogi prioritizes taking away your Choice Specs or tries Drain Punch, it can no longer 2HKO, so you can freely 3HKO.

You dare betray me, retainer?!? Pecharunt wins the 1-vs.-1 against this Okidogi. Only attack Okidogi after Nasty Plotting twice. Okidogi's best shot is pumping Knock Off to 2HKO range. Pecharunt goes for the 4-turn kill while Okidogi has to take 5 turns to kill and has the lower Speed.

Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Tera Type: Water
Bold Nature
- Torch Song
- Slack Off
- Will-O-Wisp

Skeledirge is a counter. With the given EV spread and Unaware, none of Okidogi's moves are able to even 2HKO. In return, Skeledirge can burn it to limit its damage output even further, then proceed to wail away at it with Torch Song and boosted Hex -- if Okidogi is ever forced to Tera, then the latter is a 2HKO on its own.

Tera Water is chosen instead of Tera Fairy to avoid the 2HKO from Gunk Shot post-Tera.

Deoxys Speed is kind of a wild card. If it gets sent out first, you never know if it's going to be a hazard setter, screen support, or a sweeper.
And a surprisingly tanky one too.

Rotom-w uses will-o-wisp, it burns the okidogi which suffers and pain split + hydro wear it down while it does minimal dmg in return. 52 speed allows rotom-w to outrun the okidogi and burn it before it throws off a strong +1 gunk shot. This is a counter as it can pretty much always wall it esp if it lacks gunk shot

Hello, everyone.

After the Gouging Fire ban, we expect the metagame to go through a major shakeup. Therefore, we've decided to go on a short, 1-2 week hiatus while the metagame settles down in the ban's wake. We'll see you in a couple weeks with the next victim. Cheers.

Hello again, everyone. We've decided to reopen this project.

It's said that one of these a day keeps the doctor away. The hot commodity of the OU market today, your victim of the week is flourishing, both in the metagame and in the orchards it comes from. How will you deal with the rotten apple in the bunch, Hydrapple?
:sv/hydrapple:
Hydrapple @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 244 HP / 252 SpA / 12 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fickle Beam
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power

Hydrapple functions as a great balance breaker thanks to its STABs, with Giga Drain letting it sustain itself without having to switch out to proc Regenerator and Fickle Beam having a chance to absolutely destroy anything in its path if it gets the power doubling chance, alongside its great natural bulk and Regenerator allowing it to come in repeatedly throughout the game to find setup opportunities. Tera Fairy gives it an even better defensive typing, shedding its weaknesses to Fairy and Ice while generally being a good defensive typing.

How will you get rid of the rotten apple?
Submissions end on Sunday, October 12th.
