Welcome to Break This Team: SV UU Edition! This project follows a simple layout, with the submission and voting stages taking place on a week by week basis. Most metagame-defining teams may seem perfect on the surface, but they all have their undeniable flaws, and this project aims to help point out those weak links. Each week, I'll post a team that was built by someone invested in the metagame, and the participants will then try to break this team with a core made of just two Pokémon.

As stated earlier, the project will have two phases each week: the submission phase and the voting phase. The submission phase will have a duration of five days and participants are allowed to post a core with two Pokémon within that time. Then, the voting phase will last two days and people can vote for 1-2 of their favorite cores (this number is subject to change, depending on the number of submitted cores). Lastly, if you win a week, you will be placed in the Hall of Fame, and if you happen to win three weeks, you'll be able to PM me with your own team and it will be submitted in this thread for other people to try to break it!

RULES:
  • Please attempt to not post one-liners. This includes extremely short descriptions. You don't need to write an elaborate essay, but try to at least provide a satisfactory description of the core. Don't post "these Pokémon work well together and I think that it will break this team ", try to elaborate on a good post with an explanation of how the core performs against the team.
  • This is not a counterteaming competition. This is an attempt to get the community to find viable, functional cores that work generally well in the meta that the team of the week is weak to. So, for example, don’t post a Polteageist+Blissey as your core, because that blatantly doesn’t work well when not against the team you’re breaking.
  • Tera is allowed but it still falls under the jurisdiction of "don't counter team with it".
  • Again, participants are only allowed to post one core with only two Pokémon.
  • Please don't vote on your own core, or I'll ask forum moderators to delete your post.
  • Don't rally people to vote for your own core. This is not fair at all to the other participants, and if you're caught doing this then you won’t be allowed to post or even offer any ideas in this thread.
  • A small explanation would be appreciated when voting.
  • Participants are allowed to do reservations, but if they don't post the sets with the explanation within 48 hours, other participants are allowed to take it.
  • In order to encourage creativity and originality between submissions, the same Pokemon can only be used two times maximum per submissions round.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

Current Week (Week 3):

:sv/kilowattrel: :sv/talonflame: :sv/wo-chien: :sv/gastrodon: :sv/coalossal: :sv/grafaiai:
https://pokepast.es/a88a0fe2ee7ceca8

This team was built around Competitive Kilowattrel with Spike Stack. It works best on a double bird core with Talonflame, since otherwise you'd be losing the defensive utility of Talonflame. Talonflame can still use and abuse spikes, while also being a potential spinblocker with tera ghost. Both of them together give great speed control in the current meta. Gastrodon is an amazing spiker in the current meta with Covert Cloak + Sticky Hold. It can also spinblock with tera ghost while handling certain threats like Grafaiai or Gengar well. Coalossal finishing the hazards core while being an underrated pick currently. It's able to compress rocks+spin in the same slot while being able to beat most removers or spinblockers like Talonflame, Gengar, and Brambleghast. It has the option to tera if it wants to beat tinkaton or spin on the slowtwins as well. Wo-Chien gives a secondary answer to Sandy Shocks while being another great spikes abuser. Lastly is Grafaiai with pivot, another knock off user, and switcheroo + black sludge lets it wear down mons like Gastrodon or Tinkaton to allow Kilowattrel and Wo-Chien to make better progress.

If you want to see the team in action, there will be a replay below!

This team was inspired by another team I used and the core it was build around with Bisharp+Toxic Spikes Gengar. Toxic Spikes Gengar is an interesting but fun choice in the current meta because there isn't too much that likes to switch into t-spikes, and Gengar forcing so many switches allows it to threaten a lot using this set. Bisharp pairs well with it because of its typing and it can take advantage of what may try to get rid of those hazards. The two pair really well into each other to be very scary. Next to be added is Salamence for a bulky mon that can take advantage of toxic spikes and deal well with a lot of physical attackers in the tier right now. Gastrodon is your obligatory rocker that is just your solid special sponge into the tier. Lastly I added Tsareena and Slither Wing for your volt-turn core enjoyed on teams like this, alongside a form of hazard removal that pairs well into the rest of the team.

This submission period will end Saturday, February 11th! Happy postings everyone!

:sv/quagsire: + :sv/armarouge:

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 200 Def / 60 SpD

Armarouge @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 144 HP / 252 SpA / 112 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Armor Cannon
- Expanding Force
- Energy Ball
- Aura Sphere

Explanation: The week1 team has little resist against boots tera fire armarouge with energy ball. What we need is to give a free position for armarouge to swtich in, that is to attarct tsareena to stay in. So we need quagsire to make hazzard and attarct tsareena, and use her power whip/rapid spin to get speed boost. And quasire toxic could threat gastron, dragon and wing either, not letting them come in freely. For more counterplay style, u can take endure/substitute for armarouge to check first-impression/sucker punch, but in most cases just tera fire is better.

haxorus and lucario... the 2 pokemon on the team that can easily mow through the opponents, the lack of fairy on the team us noticable, because tsareena is easy setup for haxorus and it can force out sp. def gastrodon and eviolite bisharp with its strong hits, it can get a dd off, and with outrage lum it can get huge picks on the opposing team. Protect makes it so slither wing can be used as setup fother if it tries to revenge kill with first impression esp since haxorus can outspeed it at +1 and make sure that its forced to first impression.

Lucario is here for being able to take advantage of bisharp, get to +1 by using its dark stab against it, SD against it and clean the team due to the crap lucario MU esp since after rocks +2 bullet punch nukes gengar

:arboliva: + :pawmot:
https://pokepast.es/88d85b4be2b840c6
Reason: Arboliva can tera fire and then its 3 attacks have super-effective coverage against 5 of the 6 team members, and is overall a solid mon in UU despite its low usage. Pawmot is there to help counter Salamence, and revival blessing can be quite useful at times. I picked Pawmot over Iron Hands due to the speed being useful against Bisharp and Tsareena, and I don't want my answer to rely on a broken pokemon. Slither Wing is very dangerous, but with a well-timed Tera it can be dealt with (Fairly certain it will click First Impression more than Close Combat if both seem like they can KO). Gastrodon cannot do anything against Arboliva without dying instantly unless it burns its Tera, and Gengar dies to earth power most of the time.
252+ SpA Tera Fire Arboliva Tera Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Slither Wing: 270-318 (86.8 - 102.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Slither Wing First Impression vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tera Fire Arboliva: 83-98 (23.1 - 27.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Slither Wing Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tera Fire Arboliva: 220-261 (61.2 - 72.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(yes I calc'd with leftovers, that was the previous set and I'm not bothered to change the calc's)

:sv/Oricorio Pom-Pom: :ss/Tauros-Paldea-Blaze:

Oricorio-Pom-Pom @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Dancer
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 244 HP / 212 Def / 52 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Revelation Dance
- Air Slash
- Roost

Tauros-Paldea-Blaze (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Raging Bull
- Stone Edge
- Will-O-Wisp

Got a nice little offensive core of two very underrated Pokemon to submit. Anyone who has been keeping up with the meta knows that Oricorio Pom-Pom is one of the most dangerous sweepers out there, using its useful typing and bulk investment to set up on, defensively answer, and break past the likes of common Pokemon like Slither Wing, Tsareena, Slowbro, Gastrodon, Sandy Shocks, Hawlucha, the list goes on really. Against this team, Oricorio matches very very well given it sets up on most of the team and can outright sweep past it as well. Tsareena, Slither Wing, Gastrodon, and Salamence are all free setup bait and both Bisharp and Gengar cannot stand up to a +1 Ground-type Revelation Dance (the calc seems to be weird with tera and Revelation Dance so just manually make it a Ground-type, has 25% to OHKO Bisharp without hazards and a single spike seals the deal). However, while a sweep will be clear cut out, it doesn't hurt to seal the deal, for Slither Wing's First Impression will sting when you have to lose your Flying-type to nail Bisharp, not to mention Sucker Punch can also create some mindgames vs a weakened Oricorio. As such, I find Fire Tauros to be a great partner, being a pretty solid Scarf user with Intimidate + Based 100 Speed tier. It walls Bisharp and Slither Wing with ease, can cripple Salamence with a burn, revenge kill Gengar, and just KO Tsareena and Gastrodon. I unironically keep forgetting its neutral to rocks but its a Choice Scarf user I really plan on using more, got some good qualities in the metagame between Scarf and Bulk Up like ruining Iron Hands with Will-o-Wisp.

Hey

- Focus Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
So first thing I noticed was that the team had quite a poor Kilowattrel matchup. With rain gone, the bird now tends to fall back on Tera Blast, especially Grass, to remove threats to its Volt Switch such as Gastrodon right here. With it being able to threaten out Tsareena and Slither Wing and having a rather difficult to contest Volt Switch thanks to its high speed, it's able to lure in and KO or heavily weaken Gastrodon. Thanks to its amazing speed tier, Kilowattrel finds itself outpacing every other pokemon on the team besides Slither Wing which can now hit it super effectively if it took down Gastrodon with Tera Blast. Now, what takes advantage of Gastrodon's absence while keeping a solid matchup against Slither Wing? That's right, Gengar. It gets a lot of potential switch-in opportunities against Tsareena and Slither Wing and, with a Substitute up and Gastrodon gone, the team has next to no way to prevent it from crippling something with a burn or taking a KO. Hex can instantly threaten the opposing Gengar while everything else risks losing the 1v1 to your own Gengar between a combination of burns, Hex and of course, Focus Blast for Bisharp. Using lures and high speed as well as taking advantage of the team's rather thin special walling capabilities, Kilowattrel and Gengar are able to heavily pressure the opponent and get into a winning position. As a bonus, both team members also don't care about the Toxic Spikes the opposing Gengar may try to lay down.

Congratulations to Monky25 for winning week 1 unanimously with their Quiver Dance Oricorio + Scarf Tauros-Blaze submission! This will be added to the winners archive shortly.

Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane

This team revolves around combining Mixed Jugulis and 3 attacks Salamence as scary breakers that can take advantage of hazard stacking. Mixed Jugulis is pretty neat with the ability to Knock Off boots from its switch ins and pivot around with a pretty strong U-turn, while denying ups and recovery with Taunt, and it + tsareena's pivoting helps generate lots of openings for the team. Tera Dragon Mence gives it the colossal nuke on its Draco Meteor which can be handy in some matchups for breaking straight through stuff like Gastrodon and Slowking.

DD Rocks TTar provides a strong offensive Rocks setter and its sand support can help cause even more chip alongside hazards, Tera Flying is there as an option to flip defensive profile into stuff like Gastrodon, but without Substitute it doesn't necessarily want to click it as much as it cant beat Quag anymore. Covert Cloak Gastrodon provides a reliable Spikes setter, Grafaiai counter, and special wall + check to threats like mence with ice beam > sludge bomb. Covert Cloak in particular lets it avoid stuff like poisons, spdef drops, dark pulse flinches, hurricane confusions etc to improve a lot of its matchups, while Sticky Hold protects it from every Knock Off user except Tinkaton (important when its intended to check Grafaiai).

Tsareena gives a strong switch in to Gastrodon and Quagsire and Spin support, alongside secondary pivoting to get the breakers their entry points. Protective Pads are used on this team to make sure Tsareena can click moves into Talonflame safely. Tauros-Blaze rounds the team off with a physical wall + check to stuff like Tyranitar and Iron Hands, Blaze is used over Aqua here in order to achieve two goals: Burns on these physical threats and other defensive walls to help spread further chip, and to lure Talonflame with Stone Edge, which can help the breakers get through it more easily, and stops Taunt sets annoying their way through a lot of the team so easily without having to take burns on Tyranitar.

The submission period for this round will end on Friday 17th February!

Hello there

:SV/Sylveon: :SV/Iron Hands:
Sylveon @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pixilate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Calm Mind
- Protect
- Wish

Iron Hands @ Leftovers
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Facade
- Swords Dance
- Thunder Punch
The first Pokemon to showcase is Sylveon! Currently in RU, its natural bulk, access to Wish, and Pixilate ability allow it to act in a variety of roles such as support, or as a good damage dealer with boosted Hyper Voice (Specs or CM). For this week, I decided to go with a CM set that includes Wish. Looking at this week's team, many of these Pokemon take large chunks of damage from Hyper Voice off the bat, and one of the two that don't (Gastrodon) lets Sylveon set up Calm Mind with ease, putting the entire team at risk. The 56 EV's in defense + Bold nature allow Sylveon to avoid any potential 2HKO from Tauros (plus helping lessen the chances of 2HKO's with other mons not on the team), allowing it to 1v1 it if need be. It also allows it to avoid the outright 1HKO from a +1 Tyranitar Stone Edge. Heavy-Duty Boots lets Sylveon avoid any unnecessary damage from the hazards that may be on the field.

Tsareena is able to take a hit from Hyper Voice and deal large damage back with Power Whip. Tyranitar is also a mon Sylveon does not want to be up against on a 1v1, which brings us to...

The second mon on this duo, Iron Hands! Already notable in UU, and currently being suspect-tested, this physical behemoth boasts incredible bulk and power. The set I use maximizes physical bulk, allowing it to laugh off attacks from all of the team's physical attackers. Tera Fairy gives it a solid defensive typing, and does not allow Tyranitar to wear it away with Earthquake. It also makes it immune to Salamence's Draco Meteor, forcing it to use the much less reliable Hurricane in order to try to take it down (and Hurricane does not 2HKO). Drain Punch, Thunder Punch, and Swords Dance are all there as staple moves. I opted for Facade in this case, to lessen the effects of a potential burn from Tauros and still be able to pack a punch to wear it down. Leftovers is there for the passive recovery that is always appreciated on this mon.

These two together provide a very solid backbone in order to dismantle the team above. Sylveon can switch into special attacks very well in situations when Iron Hands would rather avoid the damage, and Iron Hands pays it back by being able to soak up almost any physical attack. CM Sylveon can break a large hole in the team if given the opportunity as all the team's Pokemon are at least 2HKO'd (or run the risk) at +1, and Iron Hands can chip down most of the mons for other teammates to take care of. Sylveon's Wish becomes a morale destroyer, as the Iron Hands the team spent time trying to chip down suddenly comes back to full health, while also being a reliable source of recovery to itself.

Well... this team has no mon faster than gengar, this meant to choose pokemon that could best support and lure in tsareena for gengar to setup a NP, with gengar being able to scare out tsareena out it can easily set it up. Even tho tsareena does 50% to gengar with power whip it still does not want to eat a sludge bomb that gengar potentially can have. Pawmot can easily support it by being the fastests pokemon and being able to revival blessing gengar back up to go ham, especially since the team cannot outspeed gengar what so ever. With tera ghost and Life orb, gengar can ohko gastrodon from full, can 50/50 ttar to try to lure it to tera by sub, or it can focus blast assuming its just gonna attack

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Tera Ghost Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 164+ SpD Gastrodon: 406-478 (95.3 - 112.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Salamence: 407-480 (122.9 - 145%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Iron Jugulis: 452-533 (137.3 - 162%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So i think kilowattrel is super good in this meta and electric types in general, kilowattrel is great on spikestack teams for competitive deterring defog so i added a brambleghast which is the best rapid spinner in the tier right now and also role compresses a spinblocker aswell as pawmot check. i added sandy shocks for a sorta electric spam core where kilowattrel can lure alot of ground types with terablast grass for sandy shocks and wattrel to put in work later in the game. i added tink as a steel type which also has kncok off and stealth rock. grafaiai can chip down things with poison touch and is another knock off user that checks gengar, slowking ends off the team as another pivot that makes the sun matchup a little easier with chilly reception, can help break with future sight and is a good catch all check to things in general.

This week will end on Sunday, February 26th! Happy postings everyone!

With zone being able to nuke tinkaton into oblivion, it allows oricorio to come in on bramble or slowking and be able to setup quiver dances, after 2 quiver dances it basically becomes unkillable for the team as without tinkaton they have no way to force progress against it, kilowattrel will just suffer once it tera grounds and at +1 or +2 it doesn't do much in return to it

252 SpA Kilowattrel Volt Switch vs. 244 HP / 0 SpD Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 133-157 (37.7 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Kilowattrel Volt Switch vs. +1 244 HP / 0 SpD Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 88-105 (25 - 29.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252 SpA Sandy Shocks Thunderbolt vs. +1 244 HP / 0 SpD Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 126-148 (35.7 - 42%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Sandy Shocks Thunderbolt vs. +2 244 HP / 0 SpD Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 94-112 (26.7 - 31.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

sandy shocks is the sole member of the team that is able to do valid damage to it but it gets outhealed, and at +2 it doesn't do enough to pressure it, esp if it tera grounds which would give it a free quiver dance unless you predict it somehow.

Grafaiai is able to pressure it sure, but its a tera ground away to being dead and the only thing it can do is get lucky with a gunk shot poison and even then, its only a 24% chance to get the poison anyway, a pretty sad chance if the oricorio doesn't tera. All goes out the window if it tera's and kills you right away

252 Atk Brambleghast Power Whip vs. 244 HP / 212 Def Oricorio-Pom-Pom: 93-109 (26.4 - 30.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Bramble is just setup fother, it doesnt do enough to it and air slash at +1 is able to nuke bramble out of the park

+1 0 SpA Oricorio-Pom-Pom Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Brambleghast: 318-374 (126.6 - 149%) -- guaranteed OHKO

throwback to a (imo) simpler time
anyone whos been around for a few years has seen this
its oven croc

these two have a great time into this team as an offensive core, especially exploiting the double electrics
rotom is able to switch into them freely, tanking hits (though it doesnt block the volt switch) and retaliating with its own volt or overheat for the big dmg. the team rly lacks a way to prevent the volt switching momentum, as the only ground type is sandy shocks, which doesnt exactly tank overheat very well

252 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Sandy Shocks: 210-247 (67.5 - 79.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

krooks double stabs are incredible in general but against this team its just not fair. revenge killing this team is light work with the coverage, everything is ohko with eq crunch and stone edge. slowking is 2hko. i wont post calcs u all know what move kills what

the drawback is this core needs something to switch into grafaiai, it cant rly keep eating gunks or uturned on, although an important calc is krook doesnt get 2hko by low kick at -1 bc chonky croc

-1 252 Atk Grafaiai Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 112-134 (33.8 - 40.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-1 252 Atk Grafaiai U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 100-118 (30.2 - 35.6%) -- 26.7% chance to 3HKO

in short, this core goes well into the entire identity of the team, shutting down almost every mon entirely with its strong offensive capabilities and the pressure it applies to the defensive core, while shrugging off the double electrics

now time to build a full team around this catch me in rmt
