Sweepers from the past

Introduction:

Hello, Hi, Hope you’re all doing good. I’m MegasXLR69 bringing to you a decent team that I made for the BW2 metagame. This team is based around my two sweepers being special Landorus and a underated Lucario set which I recently found. This team has done greatly for me on wifi battles so I thought I might share it with you to get your comments and suggestions to improve it.

The team:

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Rock Polish
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power

One of the main offensive cores of this team, This is a good anti metagame set and unstoppable late game after a rock polish boost. Landorous can force a lot switches with its high speed and power finding many opportunities to boost its already high speed to stop threats like scarf genesect or RP genesect. After a single boost it can proceed to take out counters and either sweep or allow Lucario to do so mid-late game. The EV spread allows me to max Speed and Special attack to sweep mid/late game after an RP boost and outspeed the likes of Tornadus T.

248.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 180 SDef
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge

One of the best Tyranitar sets to currently run if you need to win the weather war, Shed Shell to take good advantages of its options. As you can see it is the Stealth Rocker of my team but besides that it allows me to trap threats such as Latios to not be 2 KO'ed by even Specs Latios Surf. Pursuit allows me to trap Latios and Gengar and to guarantee a kill thanks to the Ev's in Special defence and Shed Shell for skillfully evading Dugtrio. Stone Edge allows OHKO's on threats like Tornadus T when locked into hurricane and Volcarona. And Crunch for STAB. Might run superpower > stone edge if you guys think that’s the better option.

080.png

Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Toxic
- Psychic

Slowbro’s rise to fame was its new ability. Slowbro has incredible bulk combined with it's new ability regenerator allows it to wall almost every current physical attacker in the metagame. Psychic and Scald provide Slowbro STABs, With Scald 30% burn chance and Psychic letting me hit fighting types harder. I decide to run Toxic +Slack Off for greater life. Regenerator slowbro has amazing synergy with Amoonguss who as well runs Regenerator forming the Defensive core of my team.

591.png

Amoonguss (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 28 SAtk / 228 SDef
Calm Nature
- Spore
- Stun Spore
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Giga Drain

This is Princess Bri’s Amoonguss set which works as a great crippler. It serves excellent synergy with Slowbro (Regenerator). It has access to the best sleep inducing move Spore(100% accuracy) which technically means something on the opponent team is crippled. It's typing provides nice resistances and allowing me to remove toxic making a sweep a whole lot easier. Stun spore is excellent to surprise offensive switch-ins with paralysis, after I hit spore on them cauding at least 2 pokemons on the opponents team to be crippled. Hidden Power [Ice] allows me hit Dragon and Flying types and especially Gliscor who could otherwise wall Amoonguss. Also Amoonguss runs as a excellent counter to Breloom which is a great asset considering the rise in the Techiloom set usage.

Pokemon-Genesect-250x289.jpeg

Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Download
EVs: 92 Atk / 252 SAtk / 164 Spd
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower

The so called Lead of my team walled only by Heatran.Genesect makes as a excellent scout or can secure a kill early game. His moveset allows maximum coverage to hit almost everything for neutral damage, Genesect also makes as a good late game sweeper. U turn allows me to scout and ice beam + thunderbolt forms the infamous bolt beam combo resisted only by a few pokemons. Flamethrower adds to the coverage.

448.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Crunch
- Agility

A very underated Luke set. Agility grants Lucario a huge boost in Speed, giving it a Speed advantage over Genesect and Scarf Keldeo with ease. Lucario no longer has to worry about losing due to its resisted priority and solid attacking prowess with Life Orb in hand. Lucario makes the best out of its solid movepool with this set. Close Combat is for the powerful STAB move to defeat Genesect and Keldeo along with other threats in its way. Ice Punch gives it the ability to break through Gliscor and Dragons with ease, while also managing to hit Tornadus-T and Thundurus-T, who can comfortably take its other two moves. Crunch is the final move and lets it hit threats like Jellicent, Gengar, and the Lati twins slightly harder.

Conclusion:

So this is probably one of my most successful team I've made. I’m hoping to make it better with your suggestions and expert rates. Thank you for taking a part of your time reading this. I will try out all suggestions and there will be frequent changes in the RMT so you can see the changes made according to your suggestions. Thank You! :)

Hi Megas, nice team you have there.
However Genesect really stands out as being able to do a number to this team. Genesect had the highest usage stats last month aswell so its a threat you need a hard solid counter to.

The rock polish varient especially will force out all of your guys in fear of the SE move, and get a free turn of set up, and from there, its game as you dont outspeed and cant kill it with luke unless you are allready at +2. Also your own Genesect isnt running max speed so you cant leave it in knowing he could easily outspeed you and potentially KO if he turns out to be max speed scalf. (Theres no point waisting Genesect to find out)

There is an easy solution to Genesect though. Heatran. Running Heatran over your lucario, offers a solution to Genesect that can leave you wish a flash fire boosted STAB attack. Heatran also could run rocks meaning that your Tyranitar could run a choice band which in my experince helps with winning the weather war, as a politoed (most common inducer) will be taking 50-60% generally from your pursuit.

The Sets
Heatran @ Air Baloon
Timid : 252 SpA | 252 Spe | 4 SpD
Fire Blast | Earth Power | Hidden Power (Ice) | Stealth Rock

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Adamant : 252 Attack | 156 Hp | 100 Spe
Pursuit | Crunch | Stone Edge | SuperPower

Hope this helps

Thanks for the rate EnterRAYZORS.i really appreciate it.
Genesect is a threat to every team isnt it :p

Now to the serious part. Scarf Genesect is manageable and its one of the main reasons i run agility luke over standard luke and im not particularly interested in losing luke just yet because of the surprise factor late game.
RP Genesect is a bitch to this team and ive played against it before and here's how i usually play around it. Mid/Late game (usually late) Sectosaur comes in. I fodder the pokemon(unless its agility luke) who's in and bring out amoonguss at a reasonable health and even at +1 SAtk Sectosaur cant KO(3HKO in case of an Attack Boost if its RP) (i ran the calcs) Amoonguss so he usually either goes to sleep or gets paralysed.

Heatran is a sure as hell counter to Sectosaur and adding a heatran may be in the best benefit of the team even though i kind of loose out on the offensive pressure Luke brings so i will try the suggestion whenever i get the time as exams are here :'( and let you know. If Heatran comes in then CB T-tar is surely going to take over the current set so i will test Heatran and give you the suggestion.

Thanks once again.

I think you should make your genesect hasty nature. Although it doesnt handle priority as well the only move it should be worried about is mach punch and you have breloom walled handily with Amoongus. It's also an emergency answer to Lati@s if Tyranitar isnt at a healthy amount of hp or you want to save tyranitar for something else like Starmie. It also gives gene the atk boost so you can go to amoongus on the RP set and not be worried about it..

For the same reason I would move the def evs on lucario to spdef.

The last suggestion is to change the timid nature on the landorus to modest. although you lose out on a lot of speed, the difference in power is extremely relevant. Agility luke doesnt hit that hard and needs some pokemon weakened to do a lot of work and Landorus is capable of denting those pokemon for him. It's ultimately up to you.

Good luck with your team!

Hi MegasXLR69, cool team. I really like the Amoonguss+Slowbro combo. Thanks for reminding me that I have to build a team with them at some point.

I share EnterRAYZORS`concerns regarding Genesect, and agree with him that Heatran over Lucario would help a lot. I`m not a big fan of using Air Balloon on him though. The infamous Genesect+Dugtrio combo is just way too common for that. Shed shell, or even Choice Scarf, will make Heatran a proper check against that strategy. Oh, and it also helps against Scarf Magnezone, thinking he can revenge kill you.

However, I don`t like Shed Shell on Tyranitar too much. You would probably be better off with something like Lum Berry. The only Pokemon that can both trap and beat Tyranitar is Dugtrio. Duggy wont like switching in on a Crunch, while Lum Berry will save Tyranitar from Will-o-Wisp crippling him and other nonsense. It`s also good to have a half-decent answer against status. Adding Heatran should give you a chance against sun teams, even if Tyranitar dies.

I understand why you are using Shed Shell on Tyranitar, as not leting Dugtrio win the weather war for sun and rain teams is a good thought. Still, good predictions should be enough to save Tyranitar from these situations. Lum Berry can have uses in almost every battle. Shed shell is useless unless your opponent is using Dugtrio. The Choice Band set is also a possibility

Good luck with your team!

@Chimpakt Thanks for the rate. To Keep Sectosaur from sweeping the team with a SAtk boost i made the changes you said for Luke and my Sect since it dosent change much with the team.
I have never really tried modest on Landorus so i'll run some speed calcs and then i'll test it out and see the results but until i do that im sticking with timid. Thanks for the suggestions.

@Andeby thanks for the rate.Like i said previously i am yet to test Heatran due to the time constrain
so when i test it out i'll let you know and i agree that offencive heatran isnt the best in this metagame at the moment so i'll probably run shed shell to decrease DuggySect problems. I'm thinking i can usually play around Dugtrio cause most of his switches into TTar are obvious so i changed Shed Shell to Lum Berry. Thanks for the suggestions.
