Introduction

Hi smogon, I'm Frogbandit and this is my...5th? (i think) post on the RMT forums. Im not so good at introductions, so I'll try to keep this short to save you time :)

Recently, I've been trolling the forums, and looking especially not just the OU tier (which I've played a lot of and know the gist of), but also the UU tier. After making a number of successful OU teams (check my signature) I wanted to make a successful UU team, that was also unique.

I scanned both the UU and NU Tiers, looking through the list to see any completely viable pokemon that I could center my team upon, and one that was very underrated. Preferably, I wanted a good set-up sweeper. Immediately when I saw Entei, I thought to myself: why doesn't anyone use him more often?

I'll admit that Entei's special attack stat is not that great (90), but his HP and Attack are above average. Its speed and defenses also beat out Houndoom and Blaziken, some of the most common fire types used in UU. Entei's Bulk and pretty good special movepool should not be overlooked.

So, with that said, I give you the team:

A Closer Look

Roserade (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spe/-Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder

This suggestion from franky seems to fit into my team a little better than Yanmega. My team does great with Toxic Spikes support, as it helps out both my defensive core and Entei, who preys on weaker pokemon. Sleep powder is used for slower leads, to get more time to use my toxic spikes. And Leaf Storm and Sludge Bomb are dual STAB that can wreck ground/rock leads.

Honchkrow (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Insomnia
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Drill Peck
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower

Physical Honchkrow is a staple I've used on many of my previous UU teams. With Adamant Nature and 252 Atk EVs, all my moves, bar pursuit, are incredibly powerful. Superpower kills of Registeels and rock types, and drill peck or pursuit get the rest. Sucker Punch is very good and makes up for Honchkrow's lackluster speed:

"Sucker Punch is a great, great move, I say it twice because at least you check rain Dance as suppose to Scarf doing nothing to them." - franky

Pursuit makes it fun guessing my opponents next move (except when i predict wrong :() and it usually kills if I predict right. All these attacks provide almost universal coverage and are very powerful. Also a sleep absorber, with insomnia. One of my favorites to use in UU.

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/100 Atk/156 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Shadow Claw
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Iron Head

Part 1 of my key Registeel-Milotic defensive core to support Entei. Registeel absorbs special attacks like a a sponge, sets up my much needed SR, and can fire back at will. I've decided to run Shadow Claw because without it, a Rotom could easily break through my team with Charge Beam. Flinch hax from STAB Iron Head is often very funny (pisses my opponent off). Often, if I'm faced with a walling threat that I cannot KO with one of my other pokes, I use explosion. It is also good for finishing off a game. Registeel, one of the best SR users and tanks in UU.

Milotic (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Haze

Part 2 of my Registeel - Milotic core, Milotic can absorb physical attacks and bounce back with a STAB Surf. Recover is needed to keep her alive, heal off an attack, and makes Milotic very hard to take down. HP Grass helps me take care of other bulky water threats (Milotics). Haze absolutely destroys set-up sweepers, who think I can't kill them (kinda true). This isn't a traditional set, so many people are scared thinking I have Ice beam. I laugh.

Leafeon (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Return
- Quick Attack

To fill in the final spot of my team, I decided on either two things: A Mismagius or other ghost type (Rotom), or a SD Grass Sweeper. I'm still not sure whether I've made the right choice, but SD Leafeon has been working out ok so far. While he is frail to special attacks, he can switch into physical attacks with ease and set up a Swords Dance. With the +2 boost, Leaf Blade and Return are a force to be reckoned with. I chose Quick Attack for my final slot because it just seemed overall more appealing than X-Scizzor, as I was in need of priority. Quick Attack still does good damage though :P

Entei @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 184 Atk/176 Spd/148 SAtk
Timid nature
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Entei is the pokemon I decided to focus this team around. With the other five pokemon, I think I cover most, if not all, of his weaknesses quite well. Entei is actually pretty good in UU, even though he is underrated.

I decided to use a SubCM set, a suggestion from franky, because it helps out better against bulky waters, and coupled well with toxic spikes.

Flamethrower and HP Grass provide good mixed coverage that is needed. I chose Hidden Power Grass over Ground because it helped me deal with bulky water better.

Really unique team there, Entei is definitely something I find underrated as a sweeper because I've seen it a couple of times in UU, I even constructed a team myself before. First thing I noticed is the set your running on Entei, it seems that your not taking advantage of its best set: SubCm. I believe that its the only way that you'll perform best when using cm in conjunction with sub to battle with bulky waters better. I suggest a standard 184 HP / 148 SpA / 176 Spe EVs on Entei, as I'm not entirely entitled for a better evs yet. But I do know it gives you 7 subs, enough to stall out bulky waters. The moveset is sub / cm / flamethrower / hidden power grass.

Now to take full advantage of its sweeping capabilites, roserade fits in like bread and butter right now because it provides good Toxic Spikes for this team and Entei. With Sub + Toxic Spikes, bulky waters die sooner.

Roserade
@ Focus Sash
Timid Nature (Spe+ /Atk-)
252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe

- Sleep Powder
- Toxic Spikes
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb

Roserade over Yanmega benefits the team more, don't get me wrong Yanmega is a beast but unfortunately it contributes something very little to the team and Entei in particular. Sleep Powder sleeps on slower leads, Toxic Spikes is great and 2 layers is enough to cause' bulky waters trouble. Leaf Storm shits on anything that doesn't resist it because apperantly, this tier lacks some Steel-types outside of Registeel. Sludge bomb covers Grass-types, who are pretty popular nowadays.

On with Honchkrow, who doesnt need Scarf. Scarf on Honckrow is practically pointless as Sucker Punch compenstes for its Speed. Sure it provides some surprises, but wall breaker set is much better especially with entei. Entei loves weakened Pokemon, which lets them to switching out and getting a free Sub or CM. In this case, it can set up much easier. Basically, just go for simply Adamant 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe spread with Life orb to wall break. Sucker Punch is a great, great move, I say it twice because at least you check rain Dance as suppose to Scarf doing nothing to them.

As for other options, SD Blaziken with Superpower COULD be another option over Honckrow, just for the sole purpose of luring Milotc as Superpower is a clean OHKo with Life Orb plus a SD boost. This helps Entei sweep. The Milotic / Regi core should handle the attacks dished at them, but this is entirely directed to other options, as suppose to my other suggestions. overall gl.

Hey thanks for the reply, franky.

I've never heard of a SubCM set for Entei, but I'll definetly try it.

As for Roserade, I agree with you that Toxic Spikes would help out my team a lot.

I'll also change Honchkrows set to Physical Attacker, and I'll check out blaziken.

Thanks for the much needed advice :)

P.S. Honchkrow is still Scarfed, did you mean Life Orb?

From my dabbles with UU Sun I discovered that the Fire + Grass Combo cannot batter through Fire Types (Especially Moltres), though I think you've been able to cover it already. However the other threat is Altaria. I would run Ice Beam over HP Grass on Milotic to cover Altaria, anyway you have two Grassers on this team already so I don't think you will miss HP Grass on Milotic.
