[OVERVIEW]

While generally outclassed by Tapu Fini as a Calm Mind sweeper, Sylveon boasts a unique advantage in Pixilate + Hyper Voice, which gives it better spread damage than Tapu Fini's Muddy Water thanks to the boost from Pixilate, its better neutral coverage, and Sylveon's higher base Special Attack. This combination lets Sylveon hit Pokemon like Urshifu-R, Kyurem-B, and Rillaboom for strong spread damage, which Tapu Fini isn't able to do with Muddy Water. Unlike Tapu Fini though, Sylveon struggles to damage Steel-types such as Heatran and Celesteela, and it requires teammates like Incineroar, Landorus, or Volcanion to remove Steel-types or chip them into range of a boosted Hyper Voice. Sylveon also doesn't automatically set Misty Terrain to naturally block status moves, and a pure-Fairy typing means Sylveon loses the Water Type's defensive profile, which is compounded by a much lower base 65 Defence stat. It also fails to offer any utility outside of Calm Mind offence, unlike Tapu Fini. Sylveon appreciates support from teammates like Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Zeraora, which ease it setting up Calm Mind with Fake Out. Incineroar also provides damage mitigation through Intimidate and Snarl, and Rillaboom gives HP recovery from Grassy Terrain. Sylveon also benefits from speed control in Trick Room from Porygon2 while threatening Fighting-types like Urshifu-R with Hyper Voice.

[SET]
name: Calm Mind Sweeper
move 1: Hyper Voice
move 2: Calm Mind
move 3: Substitute
move 4: Detect
item: Leftovers
ability: Pixilate
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

* Substitute can block Spore from Amoonguss or a stray Toxic, which would limit Sylveon's sweeping potential, while stopping Fake Out flinches and blocking powerful physical hits like Meteor Mash.

* Detect helps stall turns for Leftovers and lets teammates help out Sylveon while it's protected. Detect is preferred over Protect to block Imprison from sealing Protect.

* Leftovers in conjunction with Detect lets Sylveon recover HP rapidly in between turns, recovery that Grassy Terrain support can further boost.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Mystical Fire can help Sylveon damage Steel-types; however, dropping Substitute risks losing the sweep prematurely to status or Clear Smog Amoonguss, and Sylveon is still slower than most Steel-types, so they will beat it anyways. Additionally, Protect has higher PP than Detect, which lets Sylveon stall more turns for Leftovers recovery, but you become weaker to Imprison users.

Overview
  • Name some Steel-types that Sylv struggles against (Steel-types such as...)
  • Say that HV has better neutral coverage too as well having notable SE targets (name some)
  • Name more reasons why Sylveon is shit compared to Tapu Fini (Massively worse Def, no Water-typing for checking stuff, no Misty Terrain).
  • Mention Grassy Terrain when you mentioned the Fake Out guys too.
Set
  • Use the typical Protect spiel on Detect as seen on other analyses, with the Protect vs Detect mentioned later.
  • Unless we mention specific benchmarks, we don't have to mention what the spread or nature does.
OO
  • Paragraph form. Also, put the ======= before the text, not after.

[OVERVIEW]
  • "This lets Sylveon hit Pokemon like Zeraora, Rillaboom, or Kyurem-B for strong neutral, or Super Effective damage that Tapu Fini isn't able to do with Muddy Water." - This line reads kind of weird since Tapu Fini can just hit any of those harder using Moonblast, and Zeraora is neutral to both spread moves so they do a similar amount. The point is meant to be that Pixilate Hyper Voice is better than Muddy Water as a spread option due to type effectiveness, but that isn't super clear. I would change it to be closer to how Memoric originally stated it, something like "Hyper Voice is also more effective as a spread attack due to better neutral coverage, and ability to hit important Pokemon like Kyurem-B and Urshifu-R super effectively."
  • At the end of talking about how Sylveon is worse than Tapu Fini, tie it up by saying that Sylveon lacks the same utility outside of Calm Mind which Tapu Fini offers.
[SET COMMENTS]
  • Remove the mention of Will-O-Wisp for Substitute, Burn is way less impactful than Sleep or Toxic. Mention blocking Fake Out or stomaching a powerful physical hit for Sylveon instead.
[OTHER OPTIONS]
  • Another big disadvantage to Mystical Fire is that most Steel-types will still outspeed and smack you anyways.
Remember to add to the credits, also the spacing between lines is a bit messed up right now if you compare it to the analysis format.

[SET COMMENTS] (spaced out bullet points)

* This set aims to boost its Special Attack and Special Defence through Calm Mind to boost its Hyper Voice to threatening levels of damage. (should already be apparent to readers)
