SYRC DANCE BATTLES!!!

SYRC Challenger vs Champions

So these are videos on Youtube. I know there's a youtube video thread, but this isn't just about the videos, so please don't harass me!

Okay, so to start off we had 10 minutes of unrecorded cypher time to warm up. Then, we had 9 dancers who had qualified in previous tournaments, and one had to be eliminated, so we each had to do a short showcase of our skills, and the lowest scorer gets the boot. This video starts off with my good friend and mentor Mark "Kram", and then me. Sadly, Alric "Flimzee" (another popper) was cut out just after me, and Alain "Anigma" just befor me. :( After everyone did their showcase, Mark was kicked out. I was fucking shocked because A) He's like my only good friend in the tourney and B) he wasn't even close to the worst dancer. Whatever, fuck the judging. Here's the video, though. I'm the white guy... actually, I'm the white guy in all the videos :P :) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQnu539JuKQ

First round is me vs Chippy. I'll let the video speak for itself.

Judgement: Basics wins.

Second round is me vs Dujon. Again, I'll let the video speak for itself.

Judgement: Dujon wins.

I have no complaints. I made it to the semi-finals, and Dujon is a really amazing dancer, and I've known him for like enough time, so I have no beef whatsoever. There are two amazing funk/hip-hop battles between Anigma (popper) and Klassyk/Dujon (both Krumpers), which are only hosted on Facebook atm. After watching myself, I've realized a couple of things I need to work on. Namely: proper incorporation of chest and leg hits, which I use all-too sparingly. I need fuller body waves, but arm waves are alright. I need to work on glides if I really want to use them, and also learn all those songs. I'm at a huge disadvantage if a song comes on and I don't know it. I mean I can obviously still work with it, but just not the same way.

I believe there are some vids of all the funkstylers just cyphering after the tourney, I'll post them when they go up.

Wow, your fucking Flexible. Cool!

Cool I agree, but flexible? I think not.

You've got some nice moves, I think some clearer changes in dynamics and incorperation of moves from other styles would add to your overall performance. Popping can get a little repetitive sometimes :)

Gotta say in that second video I would have kicked the other guy out just for pulling his trousers up, constantly!

He's right. Not about flexibility as much as core stability. The leaning back thing is basically constant abdominal flexion, as well as just general isolation.

Lol, Ben. I incorporate many different funk styles, but I'm a popper. I'm not about to start locking or krumping in the middle of my set, it just wouldn't fit. Sometimes I tut, strobe, tick, hit, scarecrow, wave, liquid, digits, dimestop, robot, etc. Some styles go together, and some don't.

I agree that pure can be good, but when competing against different styles versitility is key. Everyone has seen poppers, you have to add something new to the mix to get anywhere, if you can get this uniqueness in a diffferent way go for it, it was just a suggestion!

The thing is, I'm not win these kind of hip-hop/krump/funkstylez tournaments because 1) they're really not compatible dance styles, and 2) they don't happen very often. Most funk tournaments are funk tournaments. Hell, most of them are even particularabout specific funkstylez (lockin', poppin', funkateer, etc.) I'm not trying to be a hip-hop dancer or krump dancer, I'm a popper :P. That said, my poppin' needs a lot of work, but I'm not about to change course.
