This is like a week old. But I need to make sure aamto and AvatarST see this in case they haven't! And whoever else plays Tales games.

Download the 720p trailer there.

It's kinda crappily compressed, but blame Namco Bandai for that. The final game will look even better I assume.

Xbox 360 confirmed. PS3 probably to get a port down the line. 360 wasn't officially confirmed, but the source code on the home page had "Xbox 360" after the title of the game. Then Sakuraba's (composer) English site had Xbox 360 after the name of the game. It was later removed, but was still in as a comment in the source code. Then that was removed >.>;

This game is being developed by Team Symphonia, the ones who made Phantasia, Symphonia, and Abyss. This is a main entry in the franchise, not outsourced like Legendia or Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk.

If you haven't played a Tales game pick up Tales of Symphonia (GCN), Tales of the Abyss (PS2), or Tales of Eternia (PSP). Hopefully you own at least one of those systems, a Wii, or a PS3.

Um, not to derail the topic, but can you possibly link to the source that says Knights of Ratatosk is being outsourced? The original Symphonia is my favorite video game, so you can imagine why I'd be worried if the sequel isn't being made by the same people.

Um, no source needed? Team Symphonia is working on Vesperia. The fact that it's called Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk and not Tales of Symphonia 2 should also be an indication. Most have assumed it's outsourced ever since it was announced.

The only games Team Symphonia has done are Symphonia, Abyss, and I guess you could say Phantasia. Don't remember who did Rebirth. Dimps or someone did Tempest. Legendia was by "Project Melfes".

God Tales is outsourced so much I'm not even sure on the remakes and ports. Nobody knows who exactly it is who's working on Symphonia: KoR. You just have to hope for the best. As do I because Symphonia is one of my top 5 games of all time.

If you want a game like Symphonia, pick up Abyss and when Vesperia comes out, that. The Team Symphonia games are all amazing.

Edit: Ok here's what they made:

Team Destiny
* Tales of Rebirth
* Tales of Destiny Remake
* Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition
* Tales of Destiny 2 (PSP)

Team Symphonia
* Tales of Symphonia
* Tales of Symphonia PS2
* Tales of the Abyss

Before Symphonia, they weren't split into two teams like this. That's when Phantasia, Eternia, Destiny, and Destiny 2 were made. Alfa System made Innocence.

Dang looks like a 360 for me or I'll have to play this at my friends -_-.

ToS was an awesome game, I hope they make a few more characters that played as awesome as Lloyd.

Every game I played seems to have a character who plays like Lloyd. Cress in Phantasia, Chloe in Legendia, Guy in Abyss. Currently playing Eternia and I think either Reid or Ras plays like Lloyd.

I just stick to controlling the main characters. So far it's given me some variety in how I play.

I could have sworn I posted, so I hope I did not mispost my response to this into another topic. The world for this game looks stunning, but the characters look ridiculously bad. I mean, you have perfect graphics in the world with Wind Waker level character design just ughhhh

The Japanese voice actors are really good from the preview, so that is cool too (not that anyone else but me probably cares!)

I've only played TOS and ToP and when I meant that I meant that all the characters in the game should be a useable as Lloyd was, because not many people want to play the magic user and healer although you always need them, which sucks for people playing four players.

Speaking of magic and healing they should make it more interactive I feel like I'm back to playing Final Fantasy sometimes because I'm just choosing my attack and the monster I hit.

Yeah it's hard to make magic-casters fun to play in these games. Symphonia did have that Ex Skill that let you mash A to do more damage I guess... I'd just not use magic casters if you're doing a 4-player game.

Get Abyss!
Buy Buy Buy!

Looks like this one has a lot of potential. I absolutely love the costume designs!

If the battle system doesn't disappoint me this might be the first tales game I've played since Symphonia.

Yes, I agree with you Epic. This game has a lot of potential and looks very interesting from what I've seen so far. I will definitely get this game seeing how I was a huge fan of Tales of Symphonia. It's probably in top 5 favorite games of all time. When does it come out exactly?

Yeah that and you can't Miss out on RE5

Yeah RE5 is a game I definitely can't pass up. I think this game will be 2x as difficult as RE4, and that game was no pushover. It's going to take some getting you used to the 360 controller though, but I'm up for a challenge. Hopefully it comes out this year. Also sorry for the topic change. :D

"2008" is its Japanese release. I thought we'd get it early 2009 but I'm hearing we may get it by the end of the year.

The English and Japanese versions are being done simultaenously!

Not a worldwide release, but we'll get it earlier than usual!

Why have you guys not played Tales of the Abyss? It launched at a fairly cheap price. Great game. Most consider it better than Symphonia, go out and buy it now! The battle system is an evolution of Symphonia and Abyss'. It's by the main team.

I hope we really do get it by the end of the year. 2008 seems like it's going to be a great year for video games, probably better than 2007, :D.

Also I was actually thinking about getting Tales of the Abyss a while back, but I kept getting side-tracked with school and work. So I guess now that I'm not so busy, I'll look into getting it once again. It does look like a great game.

wow, i can't believe i missed this game's unveiling completely... i have been a fan of a few of the "tales of _____" games and this one looks very promising. i really like the animation and art style of the game.

Looks pretty nice (the world in particular). I don't intend to get a Xbox360, though, so I'll have to sit tight for a PS3 release. Hopefully America will get one, IIRC they don't have a habit of releasing the slightly remade versions with all the hi-ougi's in the US.

Namco Bandai released a press release today confirming Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for 2008 NA release =)

Namco Bandai Games CELEBRATES 10th ANNIVERSARY OF TALES SERIES WITH TWO NEW GAMES in 2008

Tales of Vesperia™ for Xbox 360® and Tales of Symphonia®: Dawn of the New World™ for Wii™ Highlight Celebrated Role-Playing Series' First Decade

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (February 27, 2008) – NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced Tales of Vesperia™ for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Tales of Symphonia®: Dawn of the New World™ for Wii™. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Tales franchise in North America, these two new games expand the series' winning combination of real-time combat, captivating storylines and remarkable graphics while introducing original elements that set a new standard for role-playing gameplay and interactive storytelling.

The debut of the Tales series on the Xbox 360, Tales of Vesperia launches the series to new heights of interactive narrative and engrossing gameplay with incredible anime-style graphics, a captivating storyline and characters as well as an upgraded battle system. Set in a world reliant on a mysterious ancient technology known as "blastia,” the game follows former knight Yuri as he delves into a shadowy plot to use these magical devices to control civilization, or destroy it.

A bold new interpretation of the elements that made the Tales series a hit with gamers around the world, Tales of Vesperia delivers a standard-setting RPG experience on the Xbox 360. Using an all-new graphics engine and character designs by the renowned Kosuke Fujishima (Ah! My Goddess, Sakura Taisen), the game delivers high-quality HD character models and environments that are indistinguishable from traditional cel-based anime. The game also makes significant additions to the series' trademark real-time combat system, allowing players to do battle in massive battlefields and learn new special attacks that are tied to individual weapons. New finishing blows allow players to take down enemies in a single hit with correctly timed button combinations, while mission-based battles increase the variety of each encounter as players gain unique items by fulfilling various battle objectives. Players can also use materials collected by successfully executing finishing moves to craft rare and unique equipment for their characters.

Set two years after the events of the award-winning Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo GameCube™, Dawn of the New World follows the journey of two new young heroes, Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi, as they seek to uncover the mystery of why their world has fallen into ruin. In their quest, their paths will cross with the original cast of Tales of Symphonia including Lloyd and Colette, as well as a summon spirit known as Ratatosk who claims to be the lord of all monsters.

Advancing the combination of story, characters and real-time battles that made Tales of Symphonia one of the best-selling and highest-rated role-playing games for the Nintendo GameCube, Dawn of the New World introduces a new monster recruitment feature in which players can capture more than 200 unique enemies and train them to actively participate in battle. Players can then feed these monsters to make them more effective, and even evolve them into several new fearsome forms. The game also features an updated real-time battle system that lets players move freely in all directions around the battlefield, execute powerful unison attacks and take advantage of a new elemental alignment system for even more strategic depth. Dawn of the New World gives players complete control over a full roster of Tales of Symphonia characters and ally monsters, letting them customize their adventure party into hundreds of unique combinations.

"The Tales series is one of our most successful and well-regarded franchises, and we're celebrating its 10th anniversary in a big way with two new games that redefine role-playing on the Xbox 360 and Wii,” said Todd Thorson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "Not only can gamers look forward to playing these two incredible titles later this year, but we'll be supporting special anniversary-themed programs throughout the year to thank all the fans of the series for their dedication and enthusiasm.”

Tales of Vesperia for the Xbox 360 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for Wii will be available in stores later this year. Tales of Vesperia is currently featured in the March issue of Play magazine, and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is featured in the March issue of Nintendo Power magazine, both now on sale nationwide. Holy crap at the 720p screenshots. They are so amazing. I won't hotlink since they're so huge, but click the thumbnails here:

And some info from last week or the week before that's Famitsu:

duckroll said:
- ToV uses the EFR-LMB battle system
- there can be twice as many enemies in a battle as Abyss (7-8 normal enemies)
- there will be huge enemies as well
- there's also some sort of weapon synthesis system, you find materials and power up your weapons
- you won't be able to play co-op over XBL
- and there won't be items that are only distriburted through DLC
- although, for really hard to get items, you could buy them over DLC instead... that's a "possibility"
- there could be rankings for minigames and various Tales stats like max combo, etc
- the opening theme singer is Japanese, but they're keeping the same singer for the overseas version

There better be a PS3 version of Vesperia, I refuse to buy a shitbox that will RROD most likely.

Greatly looking forward to Dawn of the New World, it looks like a very worthy sequel to ToS with all of the returning characters. Here's hoping the voice actors are all the same.

I hated Tales of Symphonia on the GC. Got like 7 hours into the game and sold it. I wasn't keen on the linear battle gameplay. Hopefully this will turn out better.
