Moves
=====

Brave Bird is one of Talonflame's most powerful attacking moves and it even has priority. Taunt prevents the use of healing, status, boosting, and phazing moves as well as the use of entry hazards. It also allows Talonflame to beat Heatran that lack a Rock-type move. Roost helps Talonflame stay healthy and outlast dangerous Pokemon that lack a coverage move for it such as Mega Charizard Y. Its priority enables Talonflame to usually heal before being attacked, allowing Talonflame to get in a Will-O-Wisp or Taunt before it needs to start healing. Having access to reliable recovery is one of Talonflame's advantages over stallbreaker Victini and Chandelure. Will-O-Wisp pressures many of Talonflame's checks and counters by slowly wearing them down and by restricting their offensive capabilities. The combination of Will-O-Wisp and Taunt gives Talonflame more versatility than running Bulk Up with either Taunt or Will-O-Wisp. Taunt gives it the ability to stallbreak similarly to the Bulk Up + Taunt set while still having the ability lure and cripple like the Bulk Up + Will-O-Wisp set.

Set Details
========

248 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs are essential to bolster Talonflame's special bulk and enables it to switch into Stealth Rock three times from full health. The 8 Speed EVs are to allow Talonflame to outspeed max Speed neutral-natured Kyurem-B so Talonflame can check it with Will-O-Wisp. An alternate spread of 248 HP / 100Def / 152 SpD / 8 Spe can be used to avoid the 2HKO from Mega Mawile's Play Rough while maintaining reasonable special bulk but Talonflame would become a shakier check to the strong special attackers that the given spread can handle with ease. A spread of 104 HP / 180 Atk / 16 Def / 208 Spe with an Impish nature and a Sharp Beak allows Talonflame to more efficiently handle Mega Mawile and guarantees the OHKO against Mega Medicham as well as check Mega Pinsir.

Usage Tips
========

This Talonflame set excels at dismantling stall teams lacking Mega Charizard X and Suicune. Talonflame can freely switch in on passive Pokemon such as Magic Guard Calm Mind Clefable, Amoonguss after a Pokemon has been put to sleep, Chansey lacking a status move, and Skarmory. Do not let Talonflame get inflicted by a status, as it makes stallbreaking far more difficult. Be careful with Roost as its priority can make Talonflame vulnerable to Ground-type moves when used. It can also be used advantageously by removing Talonflame's Electric weakness for a turn. In addition, make sure to conserve PP against stall teams by using Taunt only when needed, while against more offensive teams, bluffing only either Will-O-Wisp or Taunt can assist in luring in Talonflame's checks. Talonflame can check many Pokemon that are powerful against balanced and stall teams such as Mega Heracross and Mega Medicham.

Team Options
=========

Entry hazard removal from Excadrill, Latias, and Latios is greatly appreciated as they can check various threats for Talonflame and have good defensive synergy. Latias's Healing Wish also can give Talonflame a second chance at stallbreaking if a stray Toxic hits it. Keep in mind when teambuilding that if you pick Latias or Latios as your Defogger that either one or Talonflame are all easily checked by Tyranitar. Pokemon that resist Electric- and Water-type attacks such as Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Raikou are good teammates. Even though Talonflame can some stall out some of Heatran's specially defensive sets, it is highly recommended that you run a Heatran check such as, but not limited to, Keldeo, Terrakion, or Garchomp alongside it. Stealth Rock support is extremely helpful due to the amount of switches Talonflame forces, so Pokemon such as Hippowdon make good teammates.

I would appreciate some feedback. Also I am currently undecided about the evs.

Edit: evs are now decided

Edit: There might be a delay on the GP process since my computer is not functioning optimally.

I don't know about the EVs, it would be most efficient to run a Jolly Nature

88 Spe Jolly hit a jump point (2 points instead of 1 extra point) and outspeed Mega Pinsir, the fastest relevant priority. And the rest can be put into bulk.

Also 28 EVs in Def (to the already 248 HP) lets you live a burned CB Waterfall from Azumarill and a Stone Edge from max attack jolly/impish Lando-T

Investing 36 EVs in Def means CB Azu cannot OHKO you w/ Aqua Jet.

You can also make it 240 HP / 36 Def, still live CB Aqua Jet from Azu, Burned Waterfall, and Stone Edge from jolly/impish lando-t

mention the advantages of this over bulk up, specifically the ability to run both taunt and wisp, so it can stallbreak like taunt + bu while still having the lure/cripple advantages of wisp + bu.

you said it has trouble beating stall with tran, but it actually beats non-rock move tran (almost all of them) which is one of the big things about taunt talon.

as for spread: i would just go 248 hp / 252 spdef / 8 spe, the def is really arbitrary and minor so you might as well get more insurance vs special threats.

i wouldn't emphasize lando so much. i feel it's a crappy lando answer if they know what they're doing, sure you can burn it, but you barely get a chance to roost because a smart lando will ep your roost, which just causes infinite mindgames.

otherwise at a quick glance, honestly this is good, i'll wait for you to finish wip to approve/whatever.

faster than chandy + victini, priority recovery + attack so no need to invest too heavily in speed, immune to ground, and it can bluff the offensive set much more readily

This is now QC ready.

Jukain I added based on your comments. However, can you check it over once again in case I am missing something?

Also to everyone, feedback on the size of the team options section and usage tips would be appreciated.

For team options, try something that counter more offensive Talonflames. As you know, the normal Talonflame set is Max Speed, adamant, or jolly. Obviously, that would outspeed your talonflame and it would 2hko.

VS lefties Talon
252+ Atk Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 208-246 (57.7 - 68.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

VS Life Orb Talon
252+ Atk Life Orb Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 270-320 (75 - 88.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

VS Band Talon (imo very unlikely)
252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 312-367 (86.6 - 101.9%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

I have this written up and ready for the third QC check.

Also a shout out to Rosenfeldius for the set with the ev spread of 104 HP / 180 Atk / 16 Def / 208 Spe with an impish nature and a Sharp Beak as the item.

Np mang, thanks for the credit

There is an alternative EV spread worth mentioning created by Seth Vilo consisting of 152 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SDef / 88 Spd w/ Jolly Nature. While nowhere near as physically bulky as mine, this is still mitigated somewhat by Will-O-Wisp, the speed still gets the jump on Mega P, but the real purpose of this set is to better handle Mega Gard, as with this spread Brave Burd OHKOs 0 Def Mega Gard, and is quite a bit bulkier on the special side to switch in more easily to Gard

Thank you for the suggestion. I am slightly skeptical about adding that set since the main problem with Mega Garde is that is Psyshock 2hko 152 HP Talonflame so it is harder to switch it too. However, the ability to ohko Mega Garde after sr is important for stall and balance teams in this meta. I will take it into consideration.

Edit: Talk it over with the QC team on IRC. It is too situational to be listed in the set details.

Thanks for the shout out, Rosenfeldius !! ^_^

To be completely clear, it OHKOs either 4 HP or 4 Def Mega Garde after Stealth Rock, and obviously still handles all the other post-Aegis monster megas like Heracross, Medicham, and Close Combat Pinsir. The SpD investment is also not in HP because it's at the highest odd number it can be before the next "divisible by 16" threshold to minimize residual damage, mainly from Sand and Seeds. The leftover EVs are put into SpD specifically to take special Fairy moves better, since WoW handles the other most of the time. Since the Gardevoir analysis runs 24 Def for Psyshock Latios, though, it might be an issue, since that only OHKOs 81.3% of the time... Up to you and QC on if it's worth a mention though. XD

slash bulk up next to taunt or willowisp. i realize it's already mentioned but it should be visible from a glance.

ForgottenOnes I liked some of the things you changed, but seeing as this was a 2/2 I didn't want to implement some and make it messy and just wanted to finish it off. Look over what I changed to see what you missed/what was incorrect, and message me if you got any questions about them.
