Tangela is one of the best defensive pivots in the RU metagame with its great defensive typing in Grass, decent bulk when coupled with Eviolite, and ability Regenerator to help sustain it throughout the course of the game and enhance its ability to pivot. These traits allows it to check a myriad of physical threats, including Bewear, Golurk, Lycanroc, and Barraskewda, as well as act as a great deterrent to other physical walls like Steelix and Umbreon. Knock Off removes key items like Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers, which helps wear down the opposing team more effectively. Leech Seed is also a good option when used with Toxic, especially against bulkier teams, as it annoys switch-ins while gradually recovering HP at the expense of checking physical attackers less reliably without switching out. It is especially useful when used alongside Knock Off, as it helps inflict gradual chip damage on Steel-types like Bronzong and Copperajah. Sleep Powder allows Tangela to incapacitate a threat on the opposing team, which can be useful against setup sweepers and wallbreakers that its team might struggle against.

Thanks to the great role compression that Tangela provides as a defensive pivot, it thrives on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate having both a pivot and a strong check to the various physical attackers in the tier. Due to Tangela's mediocre Special Defense, specially defensive checks to popular special attackers like Goodra and Salazzle form great cores with it; Umbreon, Gigalith, and Heatproof Bronzong often serve as good checks to them. Entry hazard removal from Mantine, Charizard, and Coalossal helps take pressure off Tangela, giving it more opportunities to recover health and check physical threats more reliably. Tangela's immense Defense stat also allows it to fit on stall teams, pairing with staples like the aforementioned Umbreon and Bronzong that benefit from its support options like Knock Off and its ability to take on hard-hitting physical attackers like Choice Band Golurk and Bewear. Pokemon that can reliably switch into Knock Off such as Bewear and Silvally-Fairy are solid options alongside Tangela, as it relies on Eviolite to keep its physical bulk intact.

(small thing, but normally invest the remaining 4 in the other defense stat for defensive mons)

Tangela is one of the best defensive pivots in the RU metagame with its great defensive typing in Grass, along with its decent defensive bulk when coupled with Eviolite and its ability Regenerator which helps it sustain throughout the course of the game and enhance its ability to pivot. which This allows it to check a myriad of physical threats including Bewear, Golurk, Lycanroc, and Barraskewda. The biggest boon to Tangela’s viability comes from its ability Regenerator which helps it consistently deal with these threats , (AC) as well as act as a great detergent deterrent to other physical walls like Steelix and Umbreon. (rearranged the points to help remove fluff and make it clearer, especially considering the grass typing does not help it check bewear and lycan - which is among the list of mons u mentioned, its mainly the good bulk, eviolite and regen that allows it to do so) Knock Off is Tangela’s more useful utility move, removing removes key items like Heavy Duty Boots and Leftovers, so the rest of the team can wear them which allows the opposing team to be worn down more effectively. Leech Seed is also a good option when used with Toxic, (AC) especially against bulkier teams as it can be used to annoy switch-ins while gradually recovering HP at the expense of checking physical attackers more consistently reliably while staying in. (reliably > consistently, mainly cuz leech seed can still be equally as consistent if ure not playing ur tangela recklessly, however, synth is more reliable than leech seed because ure gaining more recovery per turn). Leech Seed It is especially useful when used alongside Knock Off as it helps inflict gradual chip damage on Steel-types like Bronzong and Copperajah. Sleep Powder allows Tangrowth Tangela to incapacitate a threat on the opposing team, which can be useful against opposing set-up sweepers and wallbreakers that the team might struggle against. (spammed b to cancel evolution :joy:)

Thanks to the great role compression that Tangela provides as a defensive pivot, Tangela thrives under balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate having a strong pivotal check to the various physical attackers in the tier. Due to Tangela’s mediocre Special Defense, specially defensive checks to popular special attackers like Galarian Slowbro, Goodra, and Sigilyph form great cores with each other it. Umbreon, Gigalith, and Bronzong often serve as good checks to them, although Umbreon struggles against Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro, while the latter two get crippled against by Calm Mind Sigilyph. Pokemon like Water-types such as Focus Energy Inteleon and Choice Band Seismitoad are fantastic partners that are capable of checking the Fire- and Poison-types like Ninetales Charizard, Salazzle, and Galarian Slowbro, and Salazzle that take advantage of Tangela’s passivity. (just mentioning seis by itself can be a bit iffy, especially considering that cm gbro can match up quite well vs it due to the fact that eq does not 2hko, "0 Atk Seismitoad Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Galar: 152-182 (38.5 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery". ninetales can beat seis with solarbeam in sun or eball, so change it to zard. moved lazzle up for the gp thingy). In return, Tangela can cover Grass-types like Dhelmise and opposing Tangela with Toxic. Entry hazard removal from Mantine, Charizard, and Coalossal help take pressure off Tangela, giving it more opportunities to recover health and check physical threats more reliably. Tangela's immense Defense stats also allows it to fit on stall archetypes, pairing with staples like the aforementioned Umbreon and Bronzong that benefit from its support options in Knock Off and taking its ability to take on hard-hitting physical attackers like Choice Band Golurk and Bewear. Pokemon that can reliably switch into Knock Off such as Bewear and Silvally-Fairy are solid options alongside Tangela, as it relies on Eviolite to keep its physical bulk intact.
