[OVERVIEW]
Tangrowth's stellar ability in Regenerator, good defensive typing, and vast movepool let it hold an Assault Vest, turning it into a special wall that can check prominent threats like Keldeo, Aegislash, and Primarina. Its naturally huge Defense also lets it check physical attackers like Zarude and Rhyperior well enough even without investiment. Physically defensive sets can also check threats like Lycanroc-D, Krookodile, and Crawdaunt very well. Access to moves like Knock Off, Sleep Powder, and Sludge Bomb let Tangrowth severely cripple defensive Pokemon such as Chansey, Milotic, and Rotom-H. However, Tangrowth's typing can also hinder it, giving it weaknesses to types like Bug and Fire, forcing it to switch out from metagame staples like Scizor and Moltres. Tangrowth faces competition from Amoonguss as a defensive Grass-type, as the latter's Poison typing lets it check threats like Primarina, Keldeo, and opposing Tangrowth more reliably; it can also put foes to sleep more reliably thanks to Spore. However, Tangrowth's huge Defense, generally lower passivity, and ability to cripple walls like Chansey with Knock Off are invaluable. Tangrowth hates being setup fodder for Pokemon like Rotom-H and especially Scizor, which often force it to switch out against them. Its abysmal Special Defense means its physically defensive set struggles against special attackers like Primarina, Thundurus-T, and mixed Kommo-o; this makes specially defensive walls mandatory teammates. Finally, Assault Vest Tangrowth is prone to Knock Off, which defeats its role as a special wall.

move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sludge Bomb
move 4: Earthquake
item: Assault Vest

[SET COMMENTS]

Knock Off is an extremely useful move, removing items and crippling common Tangrowth answers, like Amoonguss, Chansey, Rotom-H, and Celesteela. Sludge Bomb has a decent chance to poison foes and is also Tangrowth's best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. Earthquake is used to pressure Pokemon such as Galarian Slowbro, Tentacruel, and Nihilego. Assault Vest boosts Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense stat, allowing it to pivot in on Pokemon it normally can't, such as Primarina, Keldeo, and Thundurus-T. Rock Slide lets Tangrowth pressure Pokemon like Moltres, Salamence, and Rotom-H a bit more but is matchup dependent and outclassed by its other move options.

Tangrowth acts as an effective glue on many playstyles. Any team appreciates Tangrowth acting as a reliable defensive pivot that sponges attacks from scary wallbreakers such as Primarina, Thundurus, and Aegislash. However, Tangrowth can still be overwhelmed by Choice Specs Primarina and Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, and it thus can't face them alone. Teammates such as Chansey and Quagsire appreciate Tangrowth's ability to cripple these offensive threats. Tangrowth can't take Fire- and Ice-type attacks from threats such as Moltres and Mamoswine reliably, so teammates like Milotic and Rotom-W are appreciated. Despite the amazing Regenerator, Tangrowth is extremely prone to being weakened by Stealth Rock and Spikes. Pokemon that can remove entry hazards, like Rotom-H and Salamence, therefore prevent it from being too worn down. Rotom-H is an especially good teammate, as it also checks Scizor, one of Tangrowth's best checks. Physically defensive walls such as Buzzwole and Seismitoad appreciate Tangrowth taking on menacing special threats such as Thundurus, Keldeo, and Primarina. Buzzwole is especially valuable as a Krookodile check, since it doesn't mind losing its item, unlike Tangrowth. Keldeo can threaten Pokemon that scare Tangrowth, like Mamoswine, Moltres, and Rotom-H. In return, Tangrowth deals with Pokemon that check Keldeo well, like Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]

Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss. Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu and is its best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. Sludge Bomb's poison chance also helps Tangrowth potentially cripple switch-ins like Rotom-H and opposing Tangrowth. Sleep Powder is extremely useful to prevent Pokemon such as Salamence from setting up in front of Tangrowth and creates opportunities for teammates such as Azumarill and Nidoqueen to wreak havoc. Earthquake can be used to weaken and pressure Pokemon such as Nihilego and Nidoqueen for other teammates, scaring them from switching in directly into Tangrowth. Rocky Helmet allows Tangrowth to punish physical attackers like Buzzwole, Azumarill, and Scizor.

Tangrowth fits very well on archetypes like bulky offense, balance, and stall, which appreciate its defensive capabilities and the utility it provides. Because of Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense, partners that can take on special attackers for it such as Chansey and Celesteela are very appreciated. Chansey can take on Pokemon like Primarina and Starmie and set Stealth Rock; its Toxic wearing down common Tangrowth checks such as Rotom-H is also very appreciated. Water-types such as Rotom-W and Primarina can all take strong Fire- and Ice-type attacks for Tangrowth and check threats such as Chandelure and Mamoswine. Primarina also checks Keldeo for Tangrowth. These Water-types appreciate Tangrowth pivoting directly into Zarude and Tapu Bulu. Rotom-W and Tentacruel in particular also work as entry hazard removers, and Tangrowth needs this help to avoid getting too weakened. Salamence and Rotom-H are other removal options that also check Scizor for Tangrowth very well. Ground-types such as Krookodile and Rhyperior like having Tangrowth as a teammate, as it can take on Water-types such as Azumarill for them. Albeit niche, Incineroar can take on almost any variant of Chandelure, which Tangrowth greatly appreciates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Leech Seed is an option, but it is easily avoided by switching out and by pivoting from Pokemon like Rotom-W and Scizor. Other Pokemon like opposing Tangrowth, Hatterene, and Amoonguss are not affected by Leech Seed, making it hard to justify using over Giga Drain's immediate recovery. Power Whip lets Tangrowth threaten Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina, but getting burned by Scald from it or another Water-type weakens Power Whip, making it less reliable. Stun Spore can be considered to slow down and cripple Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Scizor, and Tentacruel, but its accuracy is shaky and common Pokemon like Rotom-H and Amoonguss are immune to it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: All of the tier's Steel-types can switch directly into Tangrowth. Jirachi can use Tangrowth to set hazards up or heal itself. However, Jirachi and Celesteela fear Knock Off and the former has to scout for Earthquake. Celesteela forces physically defensive Tangrowth out with Flamethrower and Scizor can dent Assault Vest Tangrowth with U-turn. Scizor can also use it as setup fodder, assuming the physically defensive set has already put another team member to sleep.

**Poison-types**: Nidoqueen, Nihilego, Amoonguss, and Tentacruel can hit Tangrowth with their respective STAB moves, and Tentacruel can also damage Tangrowth with Liquid Ooze if ever it uses Giga Drain. Since they force Tangrowth out with offensive pressure, the former two can use it to set Stealth Rock. Amoonguss takes little from Tangrowth's moves and only dislikes Knock Off, forcing Tangrowth to switch out; this gives Amoonguss a free opportunity to put one of Tangrowth's teammate to sleep via Spore.

**Fire-types**: Tangrowth is extremely pressured by Fire-types such as Rotom-H, Moltres, and Chandelure and is almost always forced out. The former two can use Volt Switch or U-turn, respectively, to predict a switch and keep momentum, but Tangrowth can stomach a Fire-type attack from them and remove their item with Knock Off in return if needed. Incineroar threatens Tangrowth with Overheat, can remove its item with Knock Off, and can pivot out with U-turn.

**Special Attackers**: Even with an Assault Vest, Nidoqueen, Salamence, Nihilego, and Chandelure can all get past Tangrowth with their powerful super effective STAB attacks. Other special attackers such as Primarina, Hatterene, and Thundurus-T can all get past Assault Vest Tangrowth by using setup moves.

[OVERVIEW]

- Tangrowth's stellar ability in Regenerator and incredible Defense stat makes it one of UU's premier physical walls. Its pure Grass typing grants it useful resistances to Electric, Water, Ground, and Grass, enabling it to check monsters such as Zeraora, Crawdaunt, Krookodile, and Tapu Bulu. It is also excellent at checking other threats like Bisharp, Terrakion, and Lycanroc-D, despite not resisting their STABs. You don't need a sentence on Pokemon it checks with its typing then Pokemon whose moves it doesn't resist, as it just makes the analysis clunky. Just say in one sentence that it can use its typing and defensive tools to check Pokemon like [insert examples here]. Zeraora, Tapu Bulu, and Terrakion are all some of the more notable mons I think you should include here. For future reference, try working on condensing your information a bit more for general analysis flow.
- Tangrowth's expansive movepool, with moves such as Knock Off, Rock Slide, and Earthquake, and high attacking stats allow it to utilize an Assault Vest extremely well, separating itself from the other defensive Grass-type in the tier, Amoonguss. When invested and with an Assault Vest, its pitiful base 50 Special Defense can be boosted to the point where Tangrowth can face major special threats, like Latias, Alakazam, and Primarina.
- Access to moves like Knock Off, Sleep Powder, and Sludge Bomb let Tangrowth severely cripple defensive Pokemon, such as Chansey, Mantine, and Celesteela. Try including a shorter sentence than what you have above here on its movepool giving it the capacity to run Assault Vest to check stuff like Primarina and Alakazam. I removed your previous line because it can also be condensed and worked into this current one.
- Unfortunately, Tangrowth is extremely slow, often forced to take a hit before hitting the opponent back or putting it to sleep. However, this is somewhat mitigated by its ability, allowing it to regain the HP it lost. I'd remove this because its Speed isn't really too crucial to its niche as a defensive Pokemon that will take hits from fast Pokemon anyway.
- Tangrowth's typing can also hinder it, giving it weaknesses to types like Fire, and Poison, forcing Tangrowth to switch out in the face of metagame staples like Victini and Amoonguss bring Kyurem up as an example here.
- Sleep Powder's terrible accuracy and Tangrowth's lack of resistances to Fairy and Fighting make it so it competes with Amoonguss for the Grass-type slot on teams. Amoonguss's access to a busted sleep move in Spore and ability to take on threats like Primarina and Keldeo more consistently also outshines Tangrowth a bit.
This entire line should be reformatted because right now there's a lot wrong with it. Sleep Powder doesn't have terrible accuracy, 'busted' isn't a word that should be used in the context of analyses, and the sentence structure in general is a bit off. Just say that Amoonguss offers fair competition due to its access to a more reliable Sleep move in Spore and an additional Poison-typing for checking stuff like Primarina and Keldeo, as that would be more concise and make more sense. Be sure to use your own words, though.

- A line on Tangrowth being a bit passive against foes like Rotom-H and Scizor and relying on super effective coverage or the utility of its moves to make progress could be added here.
- Assault Vest's vulnerability to Knock Off should also be added as a drawback here, as that prevents Tangrowth from performing its role as reliably.

[SET]
name: Assault Vest

move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sludge Bomb
move 4: Earthquake

[SET COMMENTS]

- Knock Off is an extremely useful move, removing items like Rocky Helmet from Amoonguss and opposing Tangrowth. It also severely cripples common Tangrowth answers, like Chansey, Rotom-H, and Celesteela, which heavily rely on their items to function properly. I'm not sure why this was broken into two sentences. Try merging them together since it doesn't really make much sense to single Amoonguss out specifically then mention the other examples you have listed. For the sake of being concise, listing specific items isn't necessary.
- Sludge Bomb is used primarily to threaten Tapu Bulu, and lets Tangrowth not become setup fodder for it. It's also Tangrowth's best way to hit Amoonguss the only move it makes significant progress against Amoon with is Knock Off. Either remove this outright or include something like Togekiss as an example, Hatterene, and opposing Tangrowth. Bring up its chance to poison foes
- Earthquake is used to pressure Pokemon such as Zeraora I'd use something that it can't hit with its other moves well instead of Zera since Tang's entire kit can pretty much punish it to some extent. Bisharp works as an example here, Tentacruel, and Nihilego.
- Assault Vest fixes Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense stat, allowing it to take on Pokemon it normally can't, such as Primarina add Magnezone and Alakazam here in order to give more examples.
- Regenerator lets Tangrowth scout moves and switch to the appropriate teammate if needed. This is straightforward info and can be cut
- The given EV spread and a Sassy nature maximize Tangrowth's Special Defense while not lowering any of its offensive stats. In conjuction with its item, this combination makes it an excellent specially defensive tank. Despite the maximum investiment in Special Defense, due to Tangrowth's huge 125 base Defense, it can still check physical attackers like Zeraora and Tapu Bulu. This is also info that can already be gathered and probably isn't necessary to include.

- Tangrowth fits on more bulky teams, such as bulky offense, balance, and stall. These kinds of teams appreciate Tangrowth's ability in Regenerator and defensive stats, enabling it to act as a reliable defensive pivot and sponge attacks other team members can't.
- Tangrowth can't take Fire- or Ice-type moves reliably, so teammates like Slowking, Rotom-W, and Suicune can face those enemies for Tangrowth. In return, it can take Electric- and Grass-type moves for them.
- Despite its amazing ability, Tangrowth is extremely prone to being worn down by Stealth Rocks and Toxic Spikes, hazards that make its job at checking the Pokemon its supposed to very hard fluff. Pokemon that can remove hazards, like Tentacruel and Salamence, help Tangrowth by allowing it to switch into the field without having to worry about taking damage.
- This set appreciates teammates that can take on more powerful physical attackers such as Terrakion and Mamoswine, so a team member like Slowking and Rotom-W is a good option. Slowking forms a Regenerator core with Tangrowth, keeps momentum with Teleport, and scares the aforementioned physical attackers with its STAB Scald. Rotom-W is also a capable team member, scaring these threats with Hydro Pump and keeping momentum with Volt Switch.
- Find some examples of Pokemon that appreciate Tangrowth's ability to check the Pokemon it can with this set.
- Bring up pivots like Victini and Thundurus that can lure in Pokemon that Tangrowth can check, like Primarina and Rhyperior, respectively.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss by removing their item.
- Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu, and is its best way to hit Amoonguss already covered why Sludge Bomb really doesn't do much of use to Amoonguss, Hatterene, and opposing Tangrowth. bring up that its poison chance can potentially cripple switch-ins like Latias or Rotom-H.
- Sleep Powder is extremely useful to prevent Pokemon such as Salamence and Bisharp from setting up in front of Tangrowth.
- Earthquake can be used to weaken and pressure Pokemon such as Zeraora, Nihilego, and Tentacruel I'd replace all of these examples. Already covered why I think something other than Zera would work better here but you already previously used Nihilego and Tentacruel for eq targets. for other teammates to deal with, scaring them from switching in directly into Tangrowth.
- Rocky Helmet allows Tangrowth to punish physical attackers like Jirachi, Scizor, Terrakion, Azumarill, and Zeraora. It also punishes pivoting attempts such as U-turn from Scizor and Jirachi and Flip Turn from Keldeo.
- The given EV spread with a Relaxed nature maximizes Tangrowth's capabilities as a physically defensive wall while not lowering its offensive stats, thus making it less passive. this line can be cut

- Because of Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense, partners that can take on special hits for it are a must. Chansey is the tier's best special wall this bit isn't relevant to its ability to check Tangrowth (focus more specifically on what it can do to support it and not why it can support) and can take on Pokemon like Nihilego and Kyurem and can set Stealth Rock. Skarmory deals with Pokemon like Scizor and Mamoswine, which are big threats to Tangrowth, and in return Tangrowth takes on Pokemon that pressure Skarmory, like Zeraora and Crawdaunt. The latter also sets Spikes to help wear down Tangrowth's checks, like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen.
- Teammates such as Rotom-W, Slowking, and Suicune can all take strong Fire- and Ice-type attacks for Tangrowth and act as checks to threats such as Victini and Mamoswine. Rotom-W and Tentacruel in particular also work as hazard removers for Tangrowth, preventing it from being too weakened by hazards.
- Tangrowth can't deal with any of the tier's Poison-types, so a partner like Jirachi, Scizor, Latias, and Krookodile can all help it. The two former can switch in directly into their Poison-type moves, while the two latter scare them out with their super effective STAB moves.
- A line on entry hazard removal would be nice here in order to maximize Tangrowth's capability to switch into attacks.
- Give examples of Pokemon that specifically appreciate its ability to check various threats. A line on Pokemon that benefit from it checking Zeraora in particular would be useful, though also lines about Pokemon that appreciate a switch-ins to Tapu Bulu and Azu/Crawdaunt could be helpful to include because this section really needs more substance.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- Rock Slide lets Tangrowth pressure Pokemon like Gyarados, Salamence, and Rotom-H a bit more, but is really matchup dependent and outclassed by its other move options. Choosing Rock Slide over moves like Knock Off and Sludge Bomb means Tangrowth is useless against Pokemon it would supposedly be able to cripple, like Chansey and Tapu Bulu. fluff
- Leech Seed could be an option, but Tangrowth's most common check in Amoonguss is immune to it, and thus makes the use of this move quite hard to justify. I'd argue that Amonguss's immunity to Leech Seed isn't the main drawback but instead an additional drawback. If you want to still bring that up mention it after saying that Tangrowth's other moves are usually more consistently useful.
- Power Whip is an option that lets Tangrowth more immediately threaten targets such as Rotom-W, Terrakion, and Slowking, but the lack in recovery is not appreciated.
- Stun Spore can be considered as a way to slow down and cripple Pokemon like Terrakion, Lycanroc-D, and Azumarill, but its accuracy is terrible terrible is too strong a word, find something else to use and common Pokemon like Zeraora and Amoonguss are immune to it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: All of the tier's Steel-types can switch directly into Tangrowth's moves and only fear Sleep Powder. Skarmory and Jirachi can use Tangrowth to set hazards up or heal themselves say that Jirachi should be wary of Knock Off or Earthquake. Celesteela forces Tangrowth out with Flamethrower and Scizor can dent Tangrowth with U-turn. Bisharp and Scizor can also use Tangrowth as setup fodder if another team member is already asleep.

**Poison-types**: Nidoqueen and Nihilego hit Tangrowth extremely hard with Sludge Wave, while Tentacruel also hits Tangrowth for big damage and has a nasty 30% chance to poison it with Sludge Bomb instead say that it can punish Giga Drain with Liquid Ooze. By virtue of their abilities offensively pressure Tangrowth and force it out of the field, the former two can use this opportunity to set Stealth Rock while all three can set Toxic Spikes. Nidoqueen can also predict a Steel-type teammate and go for a super effective move, while Tentacruel can Rapid Spin. This is where things get too wordy and specific, so cut this last sentence.

**Amoonguss**: Amoonguss, unlike the other Poison-types in the tier, isn't afraid of Sleep Powder and Earthquake. Because of this, Tangrowth is unable to cause any major damage to Amoonguss or cripple it with any of its moves, as the only meaningful thing it can do against Amoonguss is remove its item with Knock Off. Even when trying to remove Amoonguss's item, Tangrowth has to predict it coming in, as staying in and taking a Sludge Bomb and risking the 30% poison chance is not optimal. Because of its ability to force Tangrowth out, Amoonguss can predict a switch and use Spore to incapacitate one of Tangrowth's teammembers. for one thing, this is far too wordy, though Amoonguss also works just fine as a specific mention in the Poison-type section. Find a way to emphasize how well it checks Tangrowth while also making it a lot more concise of a read than what you have here.

**Fire-types and Fire-type moves**: Tangrowth is extremely pressured by Fire-type moves, even if they aren't STAB and are unboosted unnecessary info. Because of this, Victini and Rotom-H always force Tangrowth out with their strong Fire-type STAB moves and can U-turn or Volt Switch expecting a switch, respectively. Latias and Hatterene, Pokemon Assault Vest Tangrowth is supposedly able to check, carry Fire-type coverage and can get past it by using Calm Mind.

**Special Attackers**: Even with an Assault Vest, Kyurem, Nihilego, and mixed Victini can all get past Tangrowth with their powerful super effective STAB attacks despite its supposedly good Special Defense. Other special attackers such as Primarina, Hatterene, and Latias can all get past Assault Vest by using Calm Mind. Not only this, Hatterene and Substitute Primarina don't care about Sleep Powder and can setup freely as Tangrowth tries to cripple them.

Overall, this analysis needs a lot of work. A few things I really want you to keep in mind for future writing are:
  • Condensing your writing - your info isn't inherently bad or wrong, but you need to find more efficient ways to write it. For instance, a sentence on what Tangrowth checks with its typing, and an additional sentence on what it checks regardless of its typing is not necessary and makes the analysis overwhelmingly wordy. Including an example of Pokemon it can check with the combination of its defensive traits in one sentence presents virtually the same info, but more efficiently. Another example is the Rock Slide line in OO before the changes I've suggested.
  • Removing unnecessary information - One thing to consider when offering information is whether or not it boosts clarity or specifically pertains to Tangrowth. When bringing up that it prefers entry hazards removed, for example, it doesn't teach readers anything new about Tangrowth to further expand on how those entry hazards burden it, as the chip or status they inflict is not something specific to Tangrowth.
  • Improving your choice of information - some things you decide to include aren't really helpful to understanding Tangrowth's use in the metagame, or even reflective of its use. Its low Speed tier is an example, since as a defensive Pokemon this isn't really something that greatly hinders it.
Your writing is solid and the content presents solid meta knowledge for the most part, but these are some tips I think you should consider in order to cut down on the amount of fluff/unnecessary information moving forward. Tag me for a second look once you've implemented my changes in the check.

This looks a lot better! I'd suggest maybe finding a more relevant example than Mantine in your overview, and also would like for you to make physically defensive your first set, but after that give yourself 1/3

Sup i just wanna share some things i think abt this

comments

[OVERVIEW]

  • Tangrowth's stellar ability in Regenerator and incredible Defense stat make it one of UU's premier physical walls. Along with its typing, they allow it to check threats like Terrakion, Tapu Bulu, Zeraora, Lycanroc-D, and Crawdaunt.
  • Access to moves like Knock Off, Sleep Powder, and Sludge Bomb let Tangrowth severely cripple defensive Pokemon, such as Chansey, Amoonguss, and Celesteela. Tangrowth's useful movepool also lets it run an Assault Vest, turning it into a special wall that can check threats like Alakazam and Primarina.
  • However, Tangrowth's typing can also hinder it, giving it weaknesses to types like Fire, Ice, and Poison, forcing Tangrowth to switch out in the face of metagame staples like Victini, Kyurem, and Amoonguss. Nidoqueen might be a little more relevant than Amoonguss here in this context, just bc the other two mons are offensive mons
  • Due to Amoonguss's access to Spore, it can put foes to sleep more reliably than Tangrowth. Its Poison typing also lets it check threats like Primarina and Keldeo more easily. Tangrowth does have some noteworthy advantages over Amoonguss that you should mention imo because it does compete with Amoong a bit and you wanna be able to distinguish what Tangrowth can bring to the table. Better physical bulk + the aforementioned utility with Knock Off you could note.
  • Tangrowth's passivity against Pokemon like Rotom-H and Scizor greatly hinders it, and often times Tangrowth is forced to switch out against them. Thus, it relies on coverage and utility moves to actually deal with these threats.
  • Assault Vest Tangrowth is prone to having its item removed via Knock Off, defeating Tangrowth's role as a special wall.
Specifically mention somewhere in the overview how, due to its horrible special bulk, physically defensive Tangrowth has a poor matchup against very common special attackers which can definitely hurt its team; Latias, Salamence, Nidoqueen, the already mentioned Kyurem, and Mixed Kommo-o are definitely some Pokemon you can mention here

  • Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss by removing their item.
  • Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu, and is its best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. The 30% also helps Tangrowth cripple switch-ins like Rotom-H and Latias.
  • Sleep Powder is extremely useful to prevent Pokemon such as Salamence and Bisharp from setting up in front of Tangrowth. Sleep Powder can also create opportunities for a teammate to pivot in safely
  • Earthquake can be used to weaken and pressure Pokemon such as Victini, Magnezone, and Nidoqueen for other teammates to deal with, scaring them from switching in directly into Tangrowth.
  • Rocky Helmet allows Tangrowth to punish physical attackers like Jirachi, Scizor, Terrakion, Azumarill, and Zeraora. It also punishes pivoting attempts such as U-turn from Scizor and Jirachi and Flip Turn from Keldeo.

  • Because of Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense, partners that can take on special hits for it are a must. Chansey can take on Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Rotom-H for Tangrowth and can set Stealth Rock. Chansey's ability to wear down common Tangrowth checks such as Rotom-H and Latias with Toxic is also very appreciated. Specially defensive Jirachi is another great wall that helps Tangrowth deal with threats like Kyurem and Nihilego, also being able to set Stealth Rock, pivot out with U-turn, and slow down foes with Thunder Wave. Would mention Tangrowth helps Jirachi out in return by being a scarf Krookodile switchin
  • Skarmory deals with Pokemon like Scizor and Mamoswine, which are big threats to Tangrowth, and in return Tangrowth takes on Pokemon that pressure Skarmory, like Zeraora and Crawdaunt. The latter also sets Spikes to help wear down Tangrowth's checks, like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen.
  • Teammates such as Rotom-W, Slowking, and Suicune can all take strong Fire- and Ice-type attacks for Tangrowth and act as checks to threats such as Victini and Mamoswine. Rotom-W and Tentacruel in particular also work as hazard removers for Tangrowth, preventing it from being too weakened by hazards. Mention Slowking overall is a good special tank as well, you could put it in first bullet point if you wanted to. It's a very relevant one imo, particularly because it's one of the two mons (chansey being the second) that can avoid the nidoqueen 2hko
  • Other hazard removers like defensive Scizor and Rotom-H are needed to maximize Tangrowth's potential as a wall, preventing it from being worn down constantly by hazards. Defog Scizor isn't getting a set from the looks of it so I wouldn't put this here.
  • Tangrowth can't deal with any of the tier's Poison-types, so a partner like Jirachi, Scizor, Latias, and Krookodile can all help it. The two former can switch in directly into their Poison-type moves, while the two latter scare them out with their super effective STAB moves.
  • Sweepers like Calm Mind Primarina, Choice Band Azumarill, and Choice Band Crawdaunt just say water-types here imo, the second two are breakers rather than sweepers all appreciate Tangrowth's ability to pivot directly into Zeraora and Tapu Bulu. Ground-types such as Nidoqueen, Krookodile, and Rhyperior also like having Tangrowth as a teammate, as it can take on Water-types such as Azumarill and Crawdaunt. Victini, Nihilego, and Zeraora can't take Ground-type attacks, so Tangrowth helps them by facing Pokemon like Krookodile and Rhyperior.
Imo I would give Latias a bigger mention here. It pretty much has a great matchup against all sorts of Tangrowth checks (Nihilego, Rotom-H, Nidoqueen) and fits well on bulky offense and balance teams too.

Also imo mention incineroar, it's a niche defensive pivot that can check Victini and Chandy for Tangrowth

Pretty much any Keld set can pair with Tangrowth well imo, it offensively checks all sorts of annoying Pokemon for Tangrowth; Nidoqueen Nihilego Kyurem Victini. Tangrowth can check Zera too to help Keld

  • Assault Vest fixes Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense stat, allowing it to take on Pokemon it normally can't, such as Primarina, Magnezone and Alakazam.

  • Tangrowth fits on more bulky teams, such as bulky offense, balance, and stall. These kinds of teams appreciate Tangrowth's ability in Regenerator and defensive stats, enabling it to act as a reliable defensive pivot and sponge attacks other team members can't. imo would be a good idea to mention what kind of attacks from what mons just to help the reader out a bit, you could probably mention again Alakazam and friends
  • Tangrowth can't take Fire- or Ice-type moves reliably mention examples here, could mention volcanion (checked by slowking) and mamoswine (checked by rotom-w), so teammates like Slowking, Rotom-W, and Suicune can face those enemies for Tangrowth. In return, it can take Electric- and Grass-type moves for them mention examples here too like thundy and other tangrowth
  • Despite its amazing ability, Tangrowth is extremely prone to being worn down by Stealth Rocks and Toxic Spikes. Pokemon that can remove hazards, like Tentacruel and Salamence, help Tangrowth by allowing it to switch into the field without having to worry about taking damage.
  • This set appreciates teammates that can take on more powerful physical attackers such as Terrakion and Mamoswine, so a team member like Slowking and Rotom-W is a good option. Slowking forms a Regenerator core with Tangrowth, keeps momentum with Teleport, and scares the aforementioned physical attackers with its Scald. Rotom-W is also a capable team member, scaring these threats with Hydro Pump and keeping momentum with Volt Switch.
  • Physically defensive walls such as Skarmory, Rhyperior, and Kommo-o appreciate Tangrowth's ability to take on menacing special threats such as Thundurus-T, Alakazam, and Primarina.
  • Pivots like Thundurus and Victini lure Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Primarina, and Quagsire, all of which Tangrowth can check very well.
Mention something that can check Scizor because it has a pretty good matchup against this set. You could mention Rotom-H (perhaps mention it in hazard removers) or tie it into the point about Skarmory.

Once again I think Keld would be a decent pick, it offensively checks physical threats that can pressure this set a bit more; Scizor Mamoswine Victini. Tangrowth returns the favor by checking Alakazam and Thundurus

Other Options
=============

  • Rock Slide lets Tangrowth pressure Pokemon like Gyarados, Salamence, and Rotom-H a bit more, but is really matchup dependent and outclassed by its other move options.
  • Leech Seed could be an option, but it is easily avoided by switching out and by pivot Pokemon like Zeraora and Scizor. Other Pokemon like opposing Tangrowth, Hatterene, and Amoonguss are immune to Leech Seed, making it hard to justify using over Giga Drain's immediate recovery.
  • Power Whip is an option that lets Tangrowth more immediately threaten targets such as Rotom-W, Terrakion, and Slowking, but the lack in recovery is not appreciated.
  • Stun Spore can be considered as a way to slow down and cripple Pokemon like Terrakion, Lycanroc-D, and Azumarill, but its accuracy is shaky and common Pokemon like Zeraora and Amoonguss are immune to it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: All of the tier's Steel-types can switch directly into Tangrowth. Skarmory and Jirachi can use Tangrowth to set hazards up or heal themselves. However, Jirachi fears Knock Off and has to scout for Earthquake. Celesteela forces Tangrowth out with Flamethrower and Scizor can dent Tangrowth with U-turn. Bisharp and Scizor can also use Tangrowth as setup fodder if another team member is already asleep.

**Poison-types**: Nidoqueen and Nihilego hit Tangrowth extremely hard with Sludge Wave, while Amoonguss and Tentacruel also hit Tangrowth for big damage with Sludge Bomb and the latter can damage it with Liquid Ooze if it tries to use Giga Drain. By virtue of their abilities to offensively pressure Tangrowth and force it out of the field, the former two can use this opportunity to set Stealth Rock. Amoonguss isn't afraid of Sleep Powder or Earthquake and Tangrowth's only means of crippling Amoonguss is through Knock Off. Amoonguss scares Tangrowth with Sludge Bomb out and can put one of Tangrowth's teammates to sleep in the process.

**Fire-types and Fire-type moves**: Tangrowth is extremely pressured by Fire-type moves. Mention Chandelure here for sure it wipes the floor with Tangrowth and puts your team in a shit spot if it comes in for free

**Special Attackers**: Even with an Assault Vest, Kyurem, Nihilego, and special Victini can all get past Tangrowth with their powerful super effective STAB attacks despite its supposedly good Special Defense. Other special attackers such as Primarina, Hatterene, and Latias can all get past Assault Vest by using Calm Mind. Not only this, Hatterene and Substitute Primarina don't care about Sleep Powder and can setup freely as Tangrowth tries to cripple them.

Mention Salamence somewhere here, prob special attackers. Hurricane or Fire Blast from it dispatch tangrowth pretty quickly.

  • However, Tangrowth's typing can also hinder it, giving it weaknesses to types like Fire, Ice, and Poison, forcing Tangrowth to switch out in the face of metagame staples like Victini, Kyurem, and Nidoqueen.
  • Tangrowth faces competition with Amoonguss as a defensive Grass-type. Tangrowth's huge Defense and ability to cripple walls like Chansey due to its access to Knock Off give it an edge over Amoonguss's generally more passive presence. But due to Amoonguss's access to Spore, it can put foes to sleep more reliably than Tangrowth, and its Poison typing also lets it check threats like Primarina and Keldeo more easily.
  • Tangrowth's passivity against Pokemon like Rotom-H and Scizor greatly hinders it, and often times Tangrowth is forced to switch out against them. Thus, it relies on coverage and utility moves to actually deal with these threats.
  • Because its Special Defense is so abismal, physically defensive Tangrowth can't take on special attackers like Primarina, Alakazam, and mixed Kommo-o, mandating the use of a specially defensive walls along with it. Assault Vest Tangrowth is prone to having its item removed via Knock Off, defeating Tangrowth's role as a special wall.

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss by removing their item.
  • Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu, and is its best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. The 30% also helps Tangrowth cripple switch-ins like Rotom-H and opposing Tangrowth.
  • Sleep Powder is extremely useful to prevent Pokemon such as Salamence and Bisharp from setting up in front of Tangrowth and creates opportunities from teammates such as Azumarill and Nidoqueen to wreak havoc.
It also punishes pivoting attempts such as U-turn from Scizor and Jirachi and Flip Turn from Keldeo. cut the list of these examples down to 3

  • Because of Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense, partners that can take on special hits for it are a must. Chansey can take on Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Rotom-H for Tangrowth and can set Stealth Rock. Chansey's ability to wear down common Tangrowth checks such as Rotom-H with Toxic is also very appreciated. Specially defensive Jirachi is another great wall that helps Tangrowth deal with threats like Kyurem and Nihilego, also being able to set Stealth Rock, pivot out with U-turn, and slow down foes with Thunder Wave. In return, Tangrowth takes on Krookodile for Jirachi. Finally, Slowking acts a great switch-in to threats such as Victini, Nidoqueen, and Latias, soaking up their hits and using Teleport to bring in another teammate safely. Together, they form an amazing Regenerator core, with Tangrowth taking on Pokemon like Zeraora and Tapu Bulu for Slowking.
This is ridiculously long. Idm all three getting a mention but keep the explanations to just 1 or 2 of them
  • Skarmory deals with Pokemon like Scizor and Mamoswine, which are big threats to Tangrowth, and in return Tangrowth takes on Pokemon that pressure Skarmory, like Zeraora and Crawdaunt. The latter also sets Spikes to help wear down Tangrowth's checks, like Amoonguss and Nidoqueen.
  • Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune can all take strong Fire- and Ice-type attacks for Tangrowth and act as checks to threats such as Victini and Mamoswine. Rotom-W and Tentacruel in particular also work as hazard removers for Tangrowth, preventing it from being too weakened by hazards.
  • Other hazard removers like Salamence and Rotom-H are needed to maximize Tangrowth's potential as a wall, preventing it from being worn down constantly by hazards.
  • Tangrowth can't deal with any of the tier's Poison-types, so a partner like Jirachi, Scizor, Victini, and Krookodile can all help it. The two former can switch in directly into their Poison-type moves, while the two latter scare them out with their super effective STAB moves. This can basically all be covered in the SpD point.

  • Water-types like Calm Mind Primarina, Choice Band Azumarill, and Choice Band Crawdaunt all appreciate Tangrowth's ability to pivot directly into Zeraora and Tapu Bulu.
You had a point on Water-types before this, which your first line could have been tied into. This point in general just has too many examples listed into one. Again cut it down.

  • Victini and Chandelure are big menaces to Tangrowth, so Incineroar makes for a useful addition as a teammate, albeit niche. It can take on almost any variant of those two and scare them off with Knock Off.
  • Keldeo can also check some threats to Tangrowth, such as Kyurem, Nidoqueen, and Victini, and in return it appreciates Tangrowth taking on Zeraora, Rotom-W, and Tapu Bulu for it.

Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss by removing their item. Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu, and is its best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. Scizor can also scare Alakazam with Bullet Punch. Bullet Punch is also great for removing threats to Tangrowth such as Kyurem, Mamoswine, and Terrakion. (this groups the ideas together instead of going what amoonguss has over tangrowth -> what seperates tangrowth from it -> back to what amoonguss has over tangrowth) Tangrowth's passivity against Pokemon like Rotom-H and Scizor greatly hinders it, and often times Tangrowth is forced to switch out against them, becoming as it otherwise becomes setup fodder, specially especially for Scizor. Thus, it relies on coverage and utility moves to actually deal with cripple (it doesn't deal with them, it cripples them) these threats. Because its Special Defense is so abismal abysmal, physically defensive Tangrowth can't take on special attackers like Primarina, Alakazam, and mixed Kommo-o, mandating the use of a specially defensive walls wall along with it. (this is pretty wordy imo, smth like "tangrowth's abysmal special defense means it struggles against special attackers like primarina, alakazam, and mixed kommo-o when running its physically defensive set; this makes specially defensive walls mandatory teammates" could probably work? a bit wordy still but better i think. physdef also isnt supposed to take on special attackers anyway, so i'd change tht part at the very least) Finally, Assault Vest Tangrowth is prone to having its item removed via Knock Off, defeating its role as a special wall.

[SET COMMENTS]

Knock Off lets Tangrowth cripple switch-ins such as Celesteela, Scizor, and Amoonguss by removing their item. Sludge Bomb helps Tangrowth to not be setup fodder for Tapu Bulu, and is its best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth targets Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, which can otherwise use it as setup fodder, and is its best way to hit Hatterene;(rp)(asc) Sludge Bomb's 30% its poison chance also helps Tangrowth potentially (it doesnt always poison) cripple switch-ins like Rotom-H and opposing Tangrowth. (less repetition like that) Sleep Powder is extremely useful to prevent Pokemon such as Salamence and Bisharp from setting up in front of Tangrowth and creates opportunities from for teammates such as Azumarill and Nidoqueen to wreak havoc. Earthquake can be used to weaken and pressure Pokemon such as Victini, Magnezone, and Nidoqueen for other teammates to deal with, scaring them from switching in directly into Tangrowth. (this is p wordy so i'd change for smth like "earthquake can be used to weaken and pressure pokemon such as x, y, z for teammates. it also discourages them directly switching into tangrowth") Rocky Helmet allows Tangrowth to punish physical attackers like Jirachi, Azumarill, and Zeraora.

Tangrowth fits very well on teams like bulky offense, balance, and stall. These archetypes appreciate Tangrowth's defensive and offensive capabilities and the utility it provides. Because of Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense, partners that can take on special hits attackers (u dont rly take on hits, u take on attackers) for it such as Chansey, specially defensive Jirachi, and Slowking are a must. Chansey can take on Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Rotom-H for Tangrowth and can set Stealth Rock. Its ability to wear down common Tangrowth checks such as Rotom-H with Toxic is also very appreciated. Slowking acts a great switch-in to threats such as Victini and Nidoqueen, (this example works but u've mentioned it quite a few times. obviously up to u but i'd change it to smth else) soaking up their hits and using Teleport to bring in another teammate safely. Skarmory deals with Pokemon like Scizor and Mamoswine, which are big threats to Tangrowth, and in return Tangrowth takes on Pokemon that pressure Skarmory(rc) like Zeraora and Crawdaunt. Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune can all take strong Fire- and Ice-type attacks for Tangrowth and act as checks to threats such as Victini and Mamoswine. These Water-types appreciate Tangrowth pivoting directly into Zeraora and Tapu Bulu. Rotom-W and Tentacruel in particular also work as entry hazard removers for Tangrowth, preventing it from being getting too weakened by hazards them. These Water-types appreciate Tangrowth pivoting directly into Zeraora and Tapu Bulu. Similarly, Other other entry hazard (no need to add similarly, just improved the flow. also this groups the two ideas together and improves the flow a little bit more) removers like Salamence and Rotom-H are needed to maximize Tangrowth's potential as a wall, preventing it from being worn down constantly by hazards. (u're just repeating what u said in the previous sentence p much) Ground-types such as Krookodile and Rhyperior like having Tangrowth as a teammate, as it can take on Water-types such as Azumarill. Victini and Zeraora can't take Ground-type attacks, so Tangrowth helps them by facing Pokemon like Rhyperior. Albeit niche, Incineroar can take on almost any variant of Victini and Chandelure, which Tangrowth greatly appreciates. Victini and Chandelure are big menaces to Tangrowth, so Incineroar makes for a useful addition as a teammate, albeit niche. It can take on almost any variant of those two and scare them off with Knock Off.

[SET COMMENTS]

Knock Off is an extremely useful move, removing items and crippling common Tangrowth answers, like Amoonguss, Chansey, Rotom-H, and Celesteela. Sludge Bomb has a nasty 30% decent chance to poison foes and is used primarily to threaten Tapu Bulu, and lets Tangrowth not become setup fodder for it. (qc stuff? kinda but also this is kinda just what u already mention on the previous set. u could check w qc (and should) but i'd just get rid of this as it adds virtually no new information to the analysis) It's also Tangrowth's best way to hit Hatterene and opposing Tangrowth. Earthquake is used to pressure Pokemon such as Bisharp, Tentacruel, and Nihilego. Assault Vest fixes boosts Tangrowth's miserable Special Defense stat, allowing it to pivot in on Pokemon it normally can't, such as Primarina, Magnezone,(ac) and Alakazam.

Tangrowth fits on more bulky teams, such as bulky offense, balance, and stall. These kinds of teams appreciate Tangrowth's ability and defensive stats, enabling it to act as a reliable defensive pivot and sponge attacks from scary wallbreakers such as Primarina, Alakazam, and Thundurus-T. However, Tangrowth can still be overwhelmed by Choice Specs Primarina and Nasty Plot Alakazam, and thus can't face them alone. Teammates such as Slowking, Chansey, and Quagsire appreciate Tangrowth's ability to cripple these offensive threats with its moves. Tangrowth can't take Fire- and Ice-type attacks from threats such as Volcanion and Mamoswine reliably, so teammates like Slowking, Rotom-W, and Suicune are appreciated; Slowking even forms a Regenerator core with Tangrowth, keeps momentum with Teleport, and can take on Choice Specs Primarina to help it. can face those enemies for Tangrowth. In return, it can take on Electric- and Grass-type moves from the likes of Thundurus-T and Tapu Bulu for them. Despite its amazing ability, Tangrowth is extremely prone to being weakened by Stealth Rocks Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. Pokemon that can remove entry hazards(rc) like Rotom-H and Salamence(rc) help Tangrowth by preventing it from being too worn down. Rotom-H is a specially an especially good teammate, as it also checks Scizor, one of Tangrowth's best checks switch-ins.(ap) This set appreciates teammates that can take on more powerful physical attackers such as Terrakion and Mamoswine, so a team member like Slowking and Rotom-W is a good option. Slowking forms a Regenerator core with Tangrowth, keeps momentum with Teleport, scares the aforementioned physical attackers with its Scald, and can take on Choice Specs Primarina to help Tangrowth. (a lot of useless repetition) Physically defensive walls such as Skarmory and Kommo-o appreciate Tangrowth's ability to take on menacing special threats such as Thundurus-T, Alakazam, and Primarina. Tangrowth's reliance on its item makes Scizor is a good teammate; (asc) as it acts a great mid-ground play to can scout for Knock Off Alakazam and hit it, as well as threats like Kyurem and Mamoswine, with Bullet Punch(rc) as Tangrowth can't risk losing its Assault Vest. Scizor can also scare Alakazam with Bullet Punch. Bullet Punch is also great for removing threats to Tangrowth such as Kyurem, Mamoswine, and Terrakion. Keldeo can threaten Pokemon that scare Tangrowth(rc) like Victini, Mamoswine, and Rotom-H. In return, Tangrowth deals with Pokemon that check Keldeo well (rc) like Slowking and Primarina.

Rock Slide lets Tangrowth pressure Pokemon like Gyarados, Salamence, and Rotom-H a bit more, but is really matchup dependent and outclassed by its other move options. Leech Seed could be is (it already is an option, just a niche one) an option, but it is easily avoided by switching out and by pivot Pokemon like Zeraora and Scizor. Other Pokemon like opposing Tangrowth, Hatterene, (it's not immune, it can just bounce it off with magic bounce) and Amoonguss are immune to Leech Seed, making it hard to justify using over Giga Drain's immediate recovery. Power Whip is an option that lets Tangrowth more immediately threaten targets such as Rotom-W, Terrakion, and Slowking, but the lack in of passive recovery is not appreciated. Stun Spore can be considered as a way to slow down and cripple Pokemon like Terrakion, Lycanroc-D, and Azumarill, (qc stuff but, in these cases, cant u simply giga drain them?) but its accuracy is shaky and common Pokemon like Zeraora and Amoonguss are immune to it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: All of the tier's Steel-types can switch directly into Tangrowth. Skarmory and Jirachi can use Tangrowth to set hazards up or heal themselves, although the latter dislikes taking a Knock Off and has to scout for Earthquake. However, Jirachi and Celesteela fear Knock Off and the former has to scout for Earthquake. Celesteela forces Tangrowth out with Flamethrower and Scizor can dent Tangrowth with U-turn,(ac) however, the former fears Knock Off. Bisharp and Scizor can also use Tangrowth as setup fodder if another team member is already asleep. (nitpick, but u should specify asleep by tangrowth. if they used rest, sleep powder is still gonna work)

**Poison-types**: Nidoqueen,(ac)and Nihilego,(ac) Amoonguss, and Tentacruel can hit Tangrowth extremely hard with their respective STAB moves, and Tentacruel can also damage Tangrowth with Liquid Ooze if ever it uses Giga Drain. Sludge Wave, while Amoonguss and Tentacruel also hit Tangrowth for big damage with Sludge Bomb and the latter can damage it with Liquid Ooze if it tries to use Giga Drain. By virtue of their abilities to offensively pressure Tangrowth and force it out of the field, the former two can use this opportunity to set Stealth Rock. Amoonguss takes little from Tangrowth's moves and only dislikes getting crippled by Knock Off, forcing Tangrowth to switch out; this gives Amoonguss a free opportunity to put one of Tangrowth's teammate to sleep via Spore.

**Fire-types**: Tangrowth is extremely pressured by Fire-type moves from the likes of Victini, Rotom-H, and Chandelure and finds itself forced out. Because of this, Victini, Rotom-H, and Chandelure always force Tangrowth out with their strong Fire-type STAB moves, and The former two can either U-turn or Volt Switch expecting a switch, respectively. Incineroar threatens Tangrowth with Overheat and can remove Tangrowth's its item with Knock Off. It can also pivot out with U-turn alongside threatening it with a Fire-type STAB attack and pivoting out with U-turn.

**Special Attackers**: Even with an Assault Vest, Kyurem, Salamence, Nihilego, and special specially offensive Victini can all get past Tangrowth with their powerful super effective STAB attacks. Other special attackers such as Primarina, Hatterene, and Alakazam can all get past Assault Vest Tangrowth by using setup moves; Hatterene is especially troublesome, as Magic Bounce leaves Tangrowth unable to cripple it with Sleep Powder. Not only this, Hatterene doesn't care about Sleep Powder and can setup freely as Tangrowth tries to cripple it.

[OVERVIEW]
Tangrowth's stellar ability in Regenerator and incredible Defense stat make it one of UU's premier physical walls. Along with its typing, these traits allow it to check threats like Lycanroc-D, Krookodile, and Crawdaunt. Access to moves like Knock Off, Sleep Powder, and Sludge Bomb let Tangrowth severely cripple defensive Pokemon such as Chansey, Milotic, and Rotom-H. Tangrowth's movepool also lets it hold an Assault Vest, turning it into a special wall that can check threats like Keldeo and Primarina. Swap these around to refer to its AV set being better and put more emphasis on this (downplay the Phys Def set a bit more) + what it checks. It's also worth noting that its naturally high Def lets it check a handful of foes like Rhyperior and Zarude well enough without investment. However, Tangrowth's typing can also hinder it, giving it weaknesses to types like Bug and Poison, forcing it to switch out in the face of metagame staples like Scizor and Nidoqueen. Tangrowth faces competition from Amoonguss as a defensive Grass-type, as the latter's Poison typing lets it check threats like Primarina, Keldeo, and opposing Tangrowth more reliably; it can also put foes to sleep more reliably thanks to Spore. However, Tangrowth's huge Defense and ability to cripple walls like Chansey with Knock Off give it an edge over Amoonguss's generally more passive presence. Tangrowth's abysmal Special Defense means it struggles against special attackers like Primarina, Thundurus-T, and mixed Kommo-o when running its physically defensive set; this makes specially defensive walls mandatory teammates. Worth mentioning how Buzzwole is a good Krookodile response as it doesn't mind losing its item as much as Tang. Keldeo can threaten Pokemon that scare Tangrowth, like Mamoswine, Moltres, and Rotom-H. Scizor can also use it as setup fodder, (AC) if another team member has been already put to sleep by Tangrowth. assuming the physically defensive set has already put another team member to sleep.

**Poison-types**: Nidoqueen, Nihilego, Amoonguss, and Tentacruel can hit Tangrowth with their respective STAB moves, and Tentacruel can also damage Tangrowth with Liquid Ooze if ever it uses Giga Drain. By virtue of their abilities to offensively pressure Tangrowth and force it out of the field, the former two can use this opportunity Since they force Tangrowth out with offensive pressure, the former two can use it to set Stealth Rock. Amoonguss takes little from Tangrowth's moves and only dislikes Knock Off, forcing Tangrowth to switch out; this gives Amoonguss a free opportunity to put one of Tangrowth's teammate to sleep via Spore.

**Fire-types**: Tangrowth is extremely pressured by Fire-types such as Rotom-H, Moltres, and Chandelure and is almost (bc "can stomach a fire-type attack...) always forced out.
