OU Tapu Fini (revamp)

Not open for further replies.
[OVERVIEW]

The main standout to Tapu Fini's niche is the fact that it is a Defog user that beats the two arguably best entry hazard setters in the tier in Heatran and Ash-Greninja. While still having a decent matchup against other Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T, Mega Tyranitar, Gliscor, and Mega Diancie. Aside from the aforementioned, Tapu Fini also acts as a decent check to the likes of Hawlucha and Keldeo. Misty Terrain is also incredibly helpful, keeping teammates safe from status, with some notable examples being keeping Mega Mawile protected from Will-O-Wisp and bulky Volcarona safe from Toxic. Taunt is also a wonderful move to have, enabling Tapu Fini to shut down the likes of Toxapex and Reuniclus. However, the lack of reliable recovery is still very crippling to Tapu Fini, meaning it's prone to getting worn down over the course of a match, especially if it has to check more than one Pokemon on the opposing team. This in turn means Tapu Fini will often need teammates as backup checks to what it's meant to check. By extension, that also means Tapu Fini hates getting its item knocked off, as Leftovers are its sole form of recovery, which means it even goes as far to demand a Knock Off resistance as a teammate. Additionally, the nature of its set means it's forced to pick two out of Moonblast, Scald, and Nature's Madness, which naturally hinders its matchup against some Pokemon it's supposed to check. Lastly, Tapu Fini also faces some competition from other Water-types like Toxapex thanks to the rather narrow niche it fills, and it also dislikes the prevalence of Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and Amoongus, which it can't do much against.

Moonblast gives Tapu Fini an edge against Ash-Greninja and Hawlucha. Scald is instrumental for the Heatran matchup, but it's also very helpful to potentially punish Tapu Bulu with a burn and give Tapu Fini a better matchup against Landorus-T, Stealth Rock Gliscor, and Mega Mawile. Nature's Madness cripples several Pokemon that Tapu Fini wouldn't leave a scratch on otherwise. It's extremely helpful for the Toxapex matchup alongside Taunt, and it's also amazing against Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Assault Vest Magearna that lack reliable recovery; however, missing out on either of Tapu Fini's STAB moves is far from desirable. In case Ash-Greninja and Hawlucha are already covered by other partners, Scald can be run alongside Nature's Madness, forfeiting Moonblast. Taunt enables Tapu Fini to shut down passive Pokemon like Toxapex and Clefable and prevents entry hazard setters from continuously using Stealth Rock or Spikes. Defog plays a big role on Tapu Fini's niche, enabling it to remove hazards from several setters but most notably those of Ash-Greninja, Heatran, and Landorus-T.

Set Details
========

192 Speed EVs is preferred to get the jump on Modest Heatran and anything slower. 12 Special Attack EVs enable Tapu Fini to always 2HKO Heatran with Scald after one round of Stealth Rock, which is unnecessary on variants without Scald. 16 Defense EVs allow Tapu Fini to stomach a +2 Acrobatics from Hawlucha after Stealth Rock and a round of Leftovers, which is not needed on variants lacking Moonblast. Lastly, the remaining EVs are pooled into Special Defense alongside a Calm nature for Tapu Fini to better take on the likes of Ash-Greninja and Heatran.

Usage Tips
========

Tapu Fini's goal is to switch into Pokemon it checks like Ash-Greninja and Heatran and remove their entry hazards. However, try to scout if you're dealing with Ash-Greninja or its Protean counterpart, as Tapu Fini won't appreciate a Gunk Shot. Likewise, be a bit careful with the uncommon Steelium Z Heatran and, if possible, attempt to bait the Corkscrew Crash with a Steel-resistant Pokemon. Tapu Fini lacks reliable recovery, so its health should be preserved to check what it needs. If it checks more than one Pokemon on the opposing team, try to pivot into other teammates occasionally to prevent Tapu Fini from getting so weakened by one Pokemon it would check that it gets KOed by another. Try to position Misty Terrain in your favor. Teammates like Mega Mawile or Mega Medicham could appreciate a temporary immunity to burn, whereas the likes of Volcarona or Mega Charizard X could use a Toxic immunity to get set up opportunities. Be mindful of Misty Terrain weakening Dragon-type moves for the latter if you pack them, though.

Team Options
========

Bulky Volcarona is a wonderful teammate, as it mandates Defog support to shine and Tapu Fini provides it. Tapu Fini also handles Toxapex and Heatran pretty well, which is nice for Volcarona. Offensive variants are great teammates as well. In a similar fashion, Mega Charizard X greatly appreciates the Defog support and handles Grass-types for Tapu Fini, but be careful of Misty Terrain weakening its Dragon-type moves. Ferrothorn is a great teammate, as together they act as a strong backbone that the likes of Ash-Greninja, Tapu Lele, and rain teams really struggle to break through. Tapu Fini handles the likes of Heatran, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Heracross for Ferrothorn, whereas Ferrothorn covers the likes of Calm Mind Clefable, Magearna lacking Focus Blast, and Tapu Koko. Likewise, Tangrowth and Celesteela offer a similar synergy and appreciate Tapu Fini's Defog as well. Jirachi is also notable since it can pass Wishes to Tapu Fini and take on Magearna and threatening Psychic-types, whereas Tapu Fini covers Ash-Greninja and Heatran. Pokemon that make good use of Misty Terrain like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham, and the aforementioned Volcarona are also solid choices. Finally, Gliscor is a great teammate, as it acts as a secondary Heatran switch-in, can provide Stealth Rock, and soft checks threats like Mega Mawile while Tapu Fini handles threats like Ash-Greninja.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Surf can be picked over Scald for a higher damage output, especially against specially defensive Heatran, but Scald's chance to burn the likes of Tapu Bulu and Landorus-T is usually too good to pass up. Knock Off is yet another useful option to remove Assault Vest from Magearna and Tangrowth and other miscellaneous items like Toxapex's Black Sludge; however, other choices are regarded as far better.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: The likes of Tapu Bulu, Kartana, and Serperior all demolish Tapu Fini with their respective Grass-type STAB moves. That being said, Tapu Bulu risks a burn when switching into Scald.

**Electric-types and Coverage**: Tapu Koko packs a punch even with Defog sets, and it can support allies like Kyurem-B, Mega Mawile, Magearna, and Mega Medicham with their respective Electric-type coverage and U-turn support. Even without Tapu Koko support, the aforementioned Pokemon still pose a threat. Zapdos, Magnezone, and other Electric-types can also pose a big threat to Tapu Fini.

**Residual Damage**: Having the role of a Defogger means Tapu Fini will often have to switch into entry hazards to remove them, which can weaken it considerably, and it's weak to all four of them. The likes of Magma Storm chip damage and just being forced to switch into the likes of Heatran and Ash-Greninja without reliable recovery can leave Tapu Fini fairly weakened.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Several wallbreakers can overpower Tapu Fini. Choice Specs Tapu Lele hits absurdly hard, Garchomp at +2 knocks Tapu Fini out with Continental Crush, Flyinium Z Tornadus-T can do some massive damage, Mega Alakazam does a lot with Psychic and can use Recover after any of Tapu Fini's attacks, and so on.

Overview
However, the lack of reliable recovery is still very crippling to Tapu Fini, meaning it’s somewhat prone to getting worn down over the course of a match, especially if it has to check more than one Pokémon on the opposing team.
I'd mention here that Tapu Fini hates being knocked off due to leftovers being its only reliable recovery.
Misty Terrain is also a really nice form of support, keeping teammates like Mega Mawile protected from Will-O-Wisp and teammates like fat Volcarona safe from Toxic.
Misty terrain is probably the second best standout to Fini's niche so I'd rephrase as such. Misty terrain also protects teammates from toxic spikes and that's worth a mention considering that's still getting a lot of use.

Aside that, I think you could add something about the competition Tapu Fini has against other bulky Waters of the tier like Toxapex (checks a larger portion of threats than Fini) and Rotom-W, with the latter being also a Defog user.

Moves
Nature’s Madness is in general a very helpful move that cripples several Pokémon that Tapu Fini wouldn’t leave a scratch on otherwise. It’s also extremely helpful for the Toxapex matchup.
Remove "in general" imo and mention Ferrothorn and AV Magearna (or AV Tangrowth) to illustrate what you say. Add "in conjunction with Taunt" or something similar on the second sentence because otherwise Toxapex just clicks recover.
Taunt enables Tapu Fini to shut down passive Pokémon like Toxapex and Clefable.
Taunt also prevents Stealth Rockers like Heatran from spamming it while you're clicking Defog.

Usage Tips
Talk about how Misty Terrain can and should be used (intelligently) to ease a teammate's setup. I mean Fini shouldn't be seen only as a Pokemon that takes hits but also as a Pokemon that supports and allows offensive teammates to shine.

Team Options
Mention M-Charizard X which deals with Grass-Types that threaten Fini.

Other Options
It's not a popular option but I'd mention Knock Off somewhere because that Fini is a great user of this move thanks to its ability to remove Tang's AV, Pex's Black Sludge and Gear's AV.

Good work, QC 1/3

I think you could mention whirlpool in other options with a set of whirlpool/natures madness/moonblast/taunt as it traps things like toxapex and chansey. Just a small suggestion.

I think it's worth mentioning that Tapu Fini is a Dark-type resist that's susceptible to Knock Off, often mandating a secondary resist.

[Set Details]

The rest of the EVs are polled into Special Defense that acheieve a jump point and let Tapu Fini only have a 1 in 256 chance to drop to Flash Cannon into Corkscrew Crash from 212 SpA Modest Heatran.
Don't mention these specific numbers, so just say it has a very little chance to KO.

[Usage Tips]

  • However, try to scout the variant of Greninja beforehand, as Tapu Fini won’t appreciate a Gunk Shot. Likewise, be a bit careful with Steelium Z Heatran and if possible attempt to bait the Z-move with a Steel resistant Pokémon.
Specify whether it's Protean or Battle Bond Greninja.

[Team Options]

Tapu Fini handles Heatran and Fighting-types for Ferrothorn whereas Ferrothorn covers special attackers like Mega Latios and Protean Greninja.
Tapu Fini is a very mediocre check to Mega Medicham, instead of generalizing the mention, I think you should mention the specific Fighting-types that it actually does check.

  • Pokémon that make good use of Misty Terrain like Mega Mawile and Zygarde are also solid choices.
Make sure to add Mega Medicham since you mention it earlier in the analysis, and also specify Choice Band Zygarde.

  • Lastly, Ground-types like Gliscor and Hippowdon are great teammates as they act as a secondary Heatran switch in, can provide Stealth Rock, and soft check threats like Mega Mawile while Tapu Fini handles threats like Ash-Greninja. There’s obviously a weakness to Grass, but a third teammate can remedy that.
Very iffy on mentioning Hippowdon here, because literally all it will ever click is Stealth Rock and Slack Off, which is too passive for a team that's using Tapu Fini. Mega Diancie would be a better mention here I feel.

[Other Options]

I think you could mention whirlpool in other options with a set of whirlpool/natures madness/moonblast/taunt as it traps things like toxapex and chansey. Just a small suggestion.
Just going to use this check to respond to this. I think Whirlpool should not be in Other Options, because teams that do try to use this set, often overly rely on Tapu Fini to lure Toxapex. It also comes with a worse 4MSS than it already has.

couple of nitpicks.

when ur talking about misty u could talk abt how a dragon move could be weakened on zard as smtbing to keep in mind.

in the last oo point about cm fini, ur kind of implying that like cm fini runs cm defog monostab bc u talk about how dual stab is preferred. honestly, i think the only even semiviable cm fini set would be double stab bc otherwise ur walled by 1/2 the tier, tho u have to drop defog. so maybe say cm fini doesn’t give defog support tho and hazard removal + limited set up oppurtunities(this part was kinda weird tbh bc i didn’t find this to be a problem in practice since u can boost on enough shit, since most ppl don’t play aggro around fini initially since it’s kinda passive rlly so u can cm on gren, clef, lando etc, moreso that u need multiple boosts to be threatening, ur still easy to wear down w phys hits, and ofc u can’t sweep most of the time bc ur slow)

Misty Terrain is also incredibly helpful, keeping teammates like Mega Mawile protected from Will-O-Wisp, teammates like fat Volcarona safe from Toxic, and protecting teammates from Toxic Spikes. (I would make this more general by wording it like "Misty Terrain protects all grounded teammates from status conditions; some good examples are..." bc it sounds choppy rn & doesn't include paralysis/sleep) However, the lack of reliable recovery is still very crippling to Tapu Fini, meaning it’s somewhat prone to getting worn down over the course of a match, especially if it has to check more than one Pokémon on the opposing team. By extension that also means Tapu Fini hates getting Knocked Off, as Leftovers are its sole form of recovery, which means it even goes as far to demand a Knock Off resistance as a teammate. -You didn't mention Taunt which is actually a really good trait Tapu Fini has to shut down a lot of passive Pokemon which helps vs bulkier teams & stall

- Include where you best see fit here, probably after the extra knock off resistance section, that no reliable recovery means Tapu Fini usually requires another teammate to be a backup check to Pokemon it wants to consistently check like Ash-Gren, Heatran, etc)

- I'd also mention that one of its shortcomings is the popularity of Grass-types like Tangrowth and Bulu atm that fear very little from switching into it

Moonblast gives Tapu Fini an edge against Ash-Greninja, Zygarde, and Hawlucha. Nature’s Madness cripples several Pokémon that Tapu Fini wouldn’t leave a scratch on otherwise. It’s extremely helpful for the Toxapex matchup—alongside Taunt—and it’s also amazing against Pokémon like Ferrothorn and AV Magearna that lack reliable recovery. Scald—on the other hand—helps mostly with the Heatran matchup, but it’s also very helpful to punish Tapu Bulu (rephrase to something like potentially punish or potentially burn since it's not guaranteed) and give Tapu Fini a better matchup against Landorus-T and Stealth Rock Gliscor. (Mawile too) In case Zygarde, Ash-Greninja, and Hawlucha are already covered by other partners, Scald can be run alongside Nature’s Madness, forfeiting Moonblast. (I'd mention this before the previous sentence about Scald) Taunt enables Tapu Fini to shut down passive Pokémon like Toxapex and Clefable and prevents hazard setters from continuously using Stealth Rock or Spikes. Last but by no means least, Defog plays a big role on Tapu Fini’s niche enabling it to remove the treacherous hazards from the likes of Ash-Greninja, Heatran, and Landorus-T. (maybe just make this more general & list these as examples bc rn it sounds like it only removes hazards from these three)

Set Details
========

Timid with full Speed investment is preferred on Moonblast variants to get the jump on Adamant Zygarde and Landorus-T as well as Timid Heatran in the process, to hit it with Nature’s Madness. That being said, Scald variants can opt for a EV spread of 248 HP / 12 SpD / 56 SpD / 192 Spe with a Calm nature. With that EV spread Tapu Fini can outrun Modest Heatran 2HKO it with Scald after one round of Stealth Rock. The rest of the EVs are polled into Special Defense that acheieve a jump point and greatly reduce Tapu Fini’s chance to drop to Flash Cannon into Corkscrew Crash from Modest Heatran.

Usage Tips
========

Tapu Fini’s bread and butter is switching into Pokémon it checks like Ash-Greninja and Heatran and Defog removing their hazards. However, try to scout if you’re dealing with Ash-Greninja or it’s Protean counterpart, as Tapu Fini won’t appreciate a Gunk Shot. Likewise, be a bit careful with Steelium Z Heatran and if possible attempt to bait the Z-move with a Steel resistant Pokémon. Tapu Fini lacks reliable recovery so it’s health should be preserved to check what it needs. If it checks more than one Pokémon on the opposing team, try to mix up your approach occasionally not to let Tapu Fini get too weakened by one Pokémon it would check so it doesn’t get KOed by another. (I have no idea what this sentence is trying to say the way it's currently worded - what does mix up your approach mean?) Try to position Misty Terrain in your favor. Teammates like Mega Mawile or Mega Medicham could appreciate a temporary immunity to Burn whereas the likes of Volcarona or Mega Charizard X could use a Toxic immunity to get set up opportunities, be mindful of Misty Terrain weakening Dragon-type moves for the latter if you pack them, though.

Fat Volcarona is a wonderful teammate as it mandates Defog support to shine and Tapu Fini provides it. Tapu Fini also handles Toxapex and Heatran pretty well, which is nice for Volcarona. Offensive variants are great teammates as well, though they don’t have as much synergy. (Why not?) In a similar fashion Mega Charizard X greatly appreciates the Defog support and handles Grass-types for Tapu Fini, but be careful of it Misty Terrain weakening its Dragon-type moves. Ferrothorn is a great teammate as, together, they act as a strong backbone that the likes of Ash-Greninja and Tapu Lele really struggle to break through. Tapu Fini handles the likes of Heatran, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Heracross for Ferrothorn whereas Ferrothorn covers special attackers like Mega Latios and Protean Greninja. (Tapu Fini beats Mega Latios one-on-one & protean Gren can beat Ferro easily with HP Fire so find some more fitting examples or just remove these) Likewise, Tangrowth and Celesteela offer a similar sinergy and appreciate Tapu Fini’s Defog as well. Jirachi is also notable since it can pass Wishes to Tapu Fini. (to better check Heatran and Ash-Greninja) Pokémon that make good use of Misty Terrain like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham, and Choice Band (? maybe include Zygarde in general here) are also solid choices. Finally, Gliscor is a great teammate as it acts as a secondary Heatran switch in, can provide Stealth Rock, and soft check threats like Mega Mawile while Tapu Fini handles threats like Ash-Greninja.

Knock Off is yet another useful option to remove Assault Vest from Magearna and Tangrowth and other miscellaneous items like Toxapex’s Black Sludge, however Tapu Fini struggles to fit the move. (I wouldn't say that it struggles to fit it per se but rather that its other moves are just so much better for checking what it actually needs to) Lastly, Calm Mind can turn Tapu Fini’s a surprising threat, but Defog one of the main reasons to use Tapu Fini and Calm Mind variants face stiff competition with Suicune. (remove CM)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: The likes of Tapu Bulu, Kartana, and Serperior all demolish Tapu Fini with their respective Grass-type STABs. That being said, Tapu Bulu can’t quite switch into Scald variants. (Tapu Bulu CAN switch into Scald, it just risks a burn, clarify this; include Tangrowth too)

**Electric-types**: Tapu Koko packs a punch even with Defog sets and it can support allies like Kyurem-B and Mega Mawile with their respective Electric-type coverage and U-turn support. Zapdos and other rare Electric-types can also handle Tapu Fini. (Mention Magnezone since I wouldn't consider it that rare; also maybe make a separate sentence for Electric-type coverage so it doesn't sound like it's only Kyu-B & Maw)

**Residual Damage**: Having the role of a Defogger means Tapu Fini will often have to switch into hazards to remove them which can weaken it considerably—and it’s weak to all four of them—too boot, the likes of Magma Storm chip damage and just being forced to switch into the likes of Heatran and Ash-Greninja without reliable recovery can leave Tapu Fini fairly weakened.

- I'd include a section about strong wallbreakers that can potentially tank a hit and overpower Tapu Fini; Garchomp OHKOes at +2 and can eat a Moonblast, Specs Lele lives any hit and still 2HKOes with Psychic under Misty Terrain, Mega Medicham 2HKOes and can sometimes live a Moonblast, so include whichever ones you see fitting)

As an idea, and since Adamant Zygarde is no longer something that Fini needs to worry about, is Max Speed still necessary? With 204 Speed (282 Speed stat), you outrun Adamant Lando-T and Timid Heatran, and with 216 Speed (286 Speed stat because of a jump point) you outrun max speed Hoopa-U and Mamoswine. Most of the other things that could be between the speed tiers of 286 and 295 run spreads that go past those (such as Hydreigon, who is always Timid and therefore greater than 295 speed).

An idea is a spread of 248 HP / 44 SpD / 216 Speed Timid. The 44 SpD is just what's left, and the mention of 12 SpA for the Scald variant is still good too.

i don't really get the point of how koko's terrain helps these Pokemon. When fini comes in the terrain changes.

**Residual Damage**: Having the role of a Defogger means Tapu Fini will often have to switch into hazards to remove them, (AC) which can weaken it considerably—and it’s weak to all four of them. (Remove dash, add period) too To boot, the likes of Magma Storm's chip damage and just being forced to switch into the likes of Heatran and Ash-Greninja without reliable recovery can leave Tapu Fini fairly weakened.

**Strong Wallbreakers**: Several wallbreakers can overpower Tapu Fini, Choice Specs Tapu Lele hits absurdly hard, Continental Crush from +2 Garchomp knocks Tapu Fini out, Flynium Z Tornadus-T can do some massive damage, Mega Alakazam does a lot with Psychic and can Recover any of Tapu Fini's attacks, and so on.

Should the 12 SpA EVs be on the main EV spread if the reason for it (Scald) isn't the primary move option? Or should they just be mentioned in Set Details to run that if you pick Scald?

[OVERVIEW]

The main standout to Tapu Fini’s niche is the fact that it is a Defog user that beats the two arguably best hazard setters in the tier (RC) in Heatran and Ash-Greninja (remove period) while still having a decent matchup with other Stealth Rock users like Landorus-T, Mega Tyranitar, Gliscor, and Mega Diancie. Aside from the aforementioned, Tapu Fini also acts as a decent check to the likes of Hawlucha and Keldeo. Misty Terrain is also incredibly helpful, keeping teammates safe from status, with some notable examples being keeping Mega Mawile protected from Will-O-Wisp and making fat Volcarona safe from Toxic. Taunt is also a wonderful trait to have, enabling it to shut down the likes of Toxapex and Reuniclus. However, the lack of reliable recovery is still very crippling to cripples Tapu Fini, meaning it’s prone to getting worn down over the course of a match, especially if it has to check more than one Pokemon on the opposing team. This in turn means Tapu Fini will often need teammates as backup checks to what it's meant to check. By extension that also means Tapu Fini hates getting taking Knocked Off, as Leftovers are its sole form of recovery, which means it even goes as far to demand a Knock Off resistance as a teammate. (do you mean a resistance to the dark-type move knock off, or something that doesn't mind knock off) Additionally, the nature of its set means it’s forced to pick two out of Moonblast, Scald, and Nature’s Madness, which naturally hinders it’s matchup against some Pokémon it’s supposed to check. Lastly, Tapu Fini also faces some competition from other Water-types like Toxapex thanks due to the rather narrow niche it fills and it also dislikes the prevalence of Grass-types like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and Amoongus, which it can't do much against.

Moonblast gives Tapu Fini an edge against Ash-Greninja and Hawlucha. Nature’s Madness cripples several Pokemon that Tapu Fini wouldn’t leave a scratch on otherwise. It’s extremely helpful for the Toxapex matchup—alongside Taunt—and it’s also amazing against Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Assault Vest Magearna that lack reliable recovery. Scald helps mostly with the Heatran matchup, but it’s also very helpful to potentially punish Tapu Bulu with a burn and give Tapu Fini a better matchup against Landorus-T, Stealth Rock Gliscor (why would it have a better matchup only against rocks glisc? All gliscor run moves that can be stopped by taunt, whether it be Sd, defog, or taunt), and Mega Mawile. In case Ash-Greninja (RC) and Hawlucha are already covered by other partners, Scald can be run alongside Nature’s Madness, forfeiting Moonblast. Taunt enables Tapu Fini to shut down passive Pokemon like Toxapex and Clefable and prevents hazard setters from continuously using Stealth Rock or Spikes. Defog plays a big role on in Tapu Fini’s niche, (AC) enabling it to remove the hazards from several setters, but most notably that of Ash-Greninja, Heatran, and Landorus-T.

Set Details
========

Timid with full 192 Speed EVs is preferred to get the jump on Timid Heatran and anything slower. 12 SpA EVs enable Tapu Fini to always 2HKO Heatran with Scald after one round of Stealth Rock. 16 Def EVs allow Tapu Fini to stomach a +2 Acrobatics from Hawlucha after Stealth Rock and a round of Leftovers. Lastly, the remaining EVs are pooled into Special Defense for Tapu Fini to better take on the likes of Ash-Greninja.

Usage Tips
========

Tapu Fini’s bread and butter is switching into Pokemon it checks like Ash-Greninja and Heatran and removing their hazards. However, try to scout if you’re dealing with Ash-Greninja or its (remove apostrophe) Protean counterpart, as Tapu Fini won’t appreciate a Gunk Shot. Likewise, be a bit careful with Steelium Z Heatran and, (AC) if possible, (AC) attempt to bait the Z-move with a Steel resistant Pokemon. Tapu Fini lacks reliable recovery so its health should be preserved to check what it needs. If it checks more than one Pokemon on the opposing team, try to pivot into other teammates occasionally, (AC) so as to not to let Tapu Fini get too weakened by one Pokemon it would check so it doesn’t get KOed by another. Try to position Misty Terrain in your favor. Teammates like Mega Mawile or Mega Medicham could appreciate a temporary immunity to Burn whereas the likes of Volcarona or Mega Charizard X could use a Toxic immunity to get set up opportunities. (RC, add period) Be mindful of Misty Terrain weakening Dragon-type moves for the latter if you pack them, though.

Team Options
========

Fat Volcarona is a wonderful teammate as it mandates Defog support to shine and Tapu Fini provides it. Tapu Fini also handles Toxapex and Heatran pretty well, which is nice for Volcarona. Offensive variants are great teammates as well. In a similar fashion, (AC) Mega Charizard X greatly appreciates the Defog support and handles Grass-types for Tapu Fini, but be careful of it Misty Terrain weakening its Dragon-type moves. Ferrothorn is a great teammate as, together, they act as a strong backbone that the likes of Ash-Greninja, Tapu Lele, and rain really struggle to break through. Tapu Fini handles the likes of Heatran, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Heracross for Ferrothorn whereas Ferrothorn covers the likes of Calm Mind Clefable, Magearna lacking Focus Blast, and Tapu Koko. Likewise, Tangrowth and Celesteela offer a similar sinergy and appreciate Tapu Fini’s Defog as well. Jirachi is also notable since it can pass Wishes to Tapu Fini and takes on Magearna and threatening Psychic-types whereas Tapu Fini covers Ash-Greninja and Heatran. Pokemon that make good use of Misty Terrain like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham, and the aforementioned Volcarona are also solid choices. Finally, Gliscor is a great teammate as it acts as a secondary Heatran switch in, can provide Stealth Rock, and soft check threats like Mega Mawile while Tapu Fini handles threats like Ash-Greninja.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Surf can be picked over Scald for a higher damage output, especially over against Specially Defensive Heatran, but Scald’s chance to burn the likes of Tapu Bulu and Landorus-T is usually too good to pass up. Knock Off is yet another useful option to remove Assault Vest from Magearna and Tangrowth and other miscellaneous items like Toxapex’s Black Sludge, however other choices are regarded as far better.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: The likes of Tapu Bulu, Kartana, and Serperior all demolish Tapu Fini with their respective Grass-type STABs moves. That being said, Tapu Bulu risks a burn when switching into Scald.

**Electric-types and coverage**: Tapu Koko packs a punch even with Defog sets and it can support allies like Kyurem-B, Mega Mawile, Magearna, and Mega Medicham with their respective Electric-type coverage and U-turn support. (RC, add period) However, the aforementioned Pokemon pose a threat even without Tapu Koko support the aforementioned Pokemon also pose a threat though. Zapdos, Magnezone and other Electric-types can also pose a big threat to Tapu Fini.

Teammates like Mega Mawile and Mega Medicham could appreciate a temporary immunity to burn, whereas the likes of Volcarona and Mega Charizard X could use a Toxic immunity to get setup opportunities. Be mindful of Misty Terrain weakening Dragon-type moves for the latter if you pack them, though.

Team Options
========

Tapu Fini handles Heatran, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Heracross for Ferrothorn, whereas Ferrothorn covers the likes of Calm Mind Clefable, Magearna lacking Focus Blast, and Tapu Koko. Likewise, Tangrowth and Celesteela offer a similar synergy and appreciate Tapu Fini's Defog as well. Jirachi is also notable, since it can pass Wishes to Tapu Fini and take on Magearna and threatening Psychic-types, whereas Tapu Fini covers Ash-Greninja and Heatran. Pokemon that make good use of Misty Terrain like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham, and the aforementioned Volcarona are also solid choices. Finally, Gliscor is a great teammate, as it acts as a secondary Heatran switch-in, can provide Stealth Rock, and soft checks threats like Mega Mawile, while Tapu Fini handles threats like Ash-Greninja.

Other Options
=============

===================

Magma Storm chip damage and just being forced to switch into the likes of Heatran and Ash-Greninja without reliable recovery can leave Tapu Fini fairly weakened.

GP 2/2
Implemented and uploaded.

Regarding Whirlpool, p2, I think we agreed to not include it because teams tend to overly rely on Tapu Fini to trap Toxapex if it is run.
