Tauros has been a bull sitting in the lower tiers for the past few generations due to his shallow physical movepool and a base attack that leaves it behind threats like Terrakion and its weakness to priority and low base health and special defense means you wont be taking hits too kindly, so why use Tauros? He can be a great wallbreaker 2HKO-ing most of the bulkiest threats in the OU tier such as Ferrothron and dealing major damage to a physically defensive Mandibuzz
Tauros (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 204 Atk / 48 SAtk / 252 Spe
Nature: Naïve(+Spe,-SpDef)/Hasty(+Spe,-Def)
- Earthquake
- Return
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge / Rock Slide
Now first of all this set looks awkward straight off the bat. For starters we are using a special move on a Pokémon with a base special attack stat of 40 and only two of his moves make use of the Sheer Force ability. This set has unbelievable wallbreaking power when you look at the most used sets today because of its coverage and sheer force allows it to get in serious damage crippling defensive walls by dealing close to or over 50% damage.
204 Atk Life Orb Tauros Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 161-190 (37.9 - 44.8%) -- 62.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
48 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 260-307 (73.8 - 87.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
48 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Skarmory: 195-231 (58.3 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
48 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 354-416 (102.9 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
204 Atk Life Orb Tauros Return vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Goodra: 231-274 (60.1 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
204 Atk Life Orb Tauros Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 316-372 (44.2 - 52.1%) -- 75% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
Pokémon that appreciate walls being crippled or completely gone really enjoy the support tauros provides to clean up the rest of the opponents team or finish off these massively defensive walls make great team members. Furthermore Volt-Turners like Scizor, Rotom-W, and Landorus-T make great partners being able to bring in Tauros safely as he can not take many hits especially from the special side. Defensive Pokémon on both sides of the spectrum also do great on a team with Tauros to be able to be switched into and take hits that Tauros otherwise cant handle
Overall Tauros has his own place in the metagame as a mixed wallbreaker, nothing more or nothing less. He is not cut out for the sweeping roll as his defenses being low mean he usually has to OHKO which even though hes a wallbreaker doesn't mean he can OHKO every Pokémon in the metagame
