犬 Viejo (Goodra) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Power Whip
- Iron Tail
- Aqua Tail
- Outrage
I present my old dog. While messing around with this team and trying to find unique ways to use some standardized pokémon, I discovered this gem of a set. With Goodra's monstrous base 100 attack, access to sap sipper and a preconceived role for this mon, I figured I try and teach it some new tricks. This set is very good at catching people by surprise and, with good prediction, can put a heavy dent into some unfortunate "walls." This gist of using this old dog, is to switch into a special attacker or a grass move and absorb whatever they throw at you with natural 150 SpDef plus assault vest or sap sipper, respectively. When opponents see that they can't harm my cute little puppy, they switch into either something that can take a status or their own special wall predicting a draco meteor. That's when I let go of the chain and watch Fido tear stuff to pieces :)
Kitty-chan (Cloyster) (F) @ White Herb
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash
I've seen cloyster/shell smashers used effectively by many trainers, however I could never quite match up to my observations. While still harboring a load of envy, I threw cloyster onto this team and told her "Do your job! You've got one job and you better do it right." (I don't like to be mean to her, but I figure she's got a solid enough shell to be able to handle it). Kitty-chan's job is to emerge unto battle against something that she can set up against. I've learned that if she can shell smash unscathed, then it's pretty much “さよなら!” (sayonara [a.k.a. goodbye]) to the other team. Also, she can emerge at practically any point in the match, beginning, middle or end, given the appropriate conditions for her release are met. I've seen very few things that can withstand my baby's barrages.
Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sticky Web
- Bug Buzz
- Energy Ball
- Thunder
Third on my team, but usually first into battle, is Galvantula. This little critter likes to lead the charge into battle by spraying his sticky essence all over the opponents side of the field. With a focus sash equipped, there is rarely a time when he fails to do his duty. In addition, his quickness allows him to land pretty powerful hit onto anything that is not scarfed typically. It is not detrimental to preserve his life after he's left his mark. His power, speed and death fodder-ability late game are not to be underestimated.
Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
Up next to the battle is the speed demon itself, ScarfChompGon! Despite being a knock off of an OU staple, this classic set does what it does and does it well. For those battles when scarf users are harassing your teammates or you've had your web's removed, Flygon is there to clean up. With powerful dual STABs, an easy yet effective retreat button and a blast of surprise coverage, this pokémon will leave your opponent in tatters as their jaw hangs unhinged while they scramble for their blown off socks. Flygon proves to be an excellent pivot to switch into one of it's many resistances or immunities. Even better is being able to switch into a choice-locked immunity, u-turn on the inevitable switch and run for president with all of the momentum in your favor.
Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Volt Switch
Due to my time being occupied with teaching my old dog some new tricks, I didn't have the ability to raise it's physical defenses in any capacity. As such, it was imperative to the longevity of this team that a reliable wall should be established. Despite Kitty-chan's (cloyster) incredibly thick shell, she is still a bit frail. After having invested all of her efforts into her offense, there was no way to take a hit. Forretress is built like a tank, and can provide supporting fire in the form of stealth rocks. When his team is being threatened by a strong physical attacker, Forretress can rush out and protect his mates. Additionally, should there come to be a build up of entry hazards, he can spin away all the dangers to his team.
Typhlosion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Extrasensory
- Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Last, and sort of least of all, we have typhoon explosion itself. Typhlosion's role is to go into the middle of the field and destroy everything in his path. He melts walls with his powerful STABs and has a good enough coverage to prevent total walling. All his moves are self-explanatory, however HP grass was chosen over solarbeam or focus blast for speed and accuracy respectively. There's not much to say about this guy and I've used up my imagination on the one's above so I'll just leave it at that.
P.S. I've noticed that Crocune is impossibly difficult to deal with. The only way currently for this team to deal with it is to have my old dog (Goodra) use his power whip. It can 3HKO Crocune, however it's very easy for him to get burned from a scald in that time. After that all I can hope to do is send in Flygon and get a critical hit with Outrage and hope to not die to a scald. :(
