Team Death Star UU RMT PS not all Magikarps

Team Death Star
I need to get rid of that one spot Luke can hit us

Quick Look

After only two months of competitive battling I have become tired of battling the same teams in OU. Thus I have moved my attention to the UU ladder. Where I hope to see more creativity.

Changes Will be in Bold
Testing Milotic over Uxie

The Core

Hitmontop has been one of my favorite pokemon ever since I saw him in Gold. However one the research I have done, the generation shift has been very good to top giving him a great ability and alot more moves to play with. So I decided to bring him to the party.

Sadly top funtions better at killing weakened foes and also has a large problem with ghosts while having a psychic weakness. Only one pokemon could fill this position and it is Absol. With amazing attack, priority, looking cool and mediocre speed absol could be dangerous to any team if left un-checked.

To complete the offensive trio a specail attacker was needed to add a little more balance to the team. I chose Mismagius as she is faster and has a munch higher specail attack then most UU poke. Furthermore with not being hit by ground, normal, and fighing Mismagius is easy to switch in while protecting the rest of the team from damage. In addition to that she takes care of the ghosts that hitmontop can't.

The Support

Well as the core was pretty offensive some defense was needed for support and protection. The first pokemon that came to my head was steelix. With amazing defense steelix takes hit, simple as that, he also provides scouting and support for the team. He sets up the hazards as they are important to any battle. He can also take t-waves and toxics to protect the team.

The next defensive pokemon was uxie. With amazing tanking abilities only second to the OU Cress, Uxie is amazing at taking hits. She is used to take status that the sweepers would not wanna take. Overall a sold wall. She also covers types well when paired with the core.

The Lead

From the little experience and from what I have found through research of the UU, the lead is possibly the most important part of a team. So for this position I chose Arcanine. Countering almost all of the current UU leads Arcanine is a monster. The leads that he can't counter are usually taken care of by the rest of the team and leaves those leads with a parting gift of intimidate.

Now Bring it All Together for the Real Thing

Time to Break it Down:

Arcanine @ lum berry
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Intimidate
Evs: 192 HP / 252 Atk / 64 Spe
Moveset:
Toxic- Wear down bulky stuff
Extreme Speed- Revenge kill and finish off scarfed poke
Flare Blitz- Power Stab Move
Hidden Power Grass- Really not sure why this is here.

To be honest I hated most of the leads in the UU. With such offensive leads another bulky offensive lead was needed to take the hits and hit back harder. For this position Arcanine was chosen. He does what the set is implied to do ANTI-LEAD. With overall great defenses and intimidate factored in Arcanine can take hits relatively well. He is also a plus because in the late game he can come back and be a physical threat. Lum berry is chosen to take care of sleeper leads as they are quite common in the UU.

mismagius.png

Mismagius @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 48 HP / 208 SpA / 252 Spe
Moveset:
Substitute- Protects from status and helps set-up
Shadow Ball- Stab
Thunder Bolt- coverage
Calm Mind- to set up

As part of the core of a relatively offensive balanced team I wanted a strong reliable specail attacker. Originally I thought of Houndoom. However the double darks on a team wasn't appealing nor did I think it would be successful. So Mismagius was chosen with a solid set and even more appealing was the 3 resistances to attacks that the rest of the team doesn't like. I guess a pretty standard pokemon in the UU. Works great when paired with the other members of the core. I chose thunderbolt over hp fighting because I wanted to be faster then other mismagius.

absol.png

Absol @ Life Orb
Nature:Adamant
Ability: Super Luck
Evs:4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Moveset:
Sword Dance- Only increasing the danger of this set
Sucker Punch- Stab Priority
Psyco Cut- Coverage
SuperPower- Coverage

On my first day of UU battling I was ravaged by absol. And immediately I thought I must have one. As I have seen and I am sure anyone can attest Absol is a monster. Great attack with a stab priority move equals danger. With great coverage absol's potency is only further emphasised. With a useful psychic resistances he is able to get in pretty easily. Adamant was chosen to give more power I am not sure who Jolly is outspeeding. Because of him Mismagius was chosen as they seem to compliment eachother well.

steelix.png

Steelix @ Leftovers
Nature:Careful
Ability: Rock Head
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Moveset:
Stealth Rock- Much Needed Hazard as lead fails to set up
Roar- To get rid of stat uppers and subs
Explosion-to go out with a boom
Earthquake- Stab

Maxing Specail Defense puts him at a respectable amount and with his already great defense Steelix can take a hit from anyone. Was chosen because of altaria and other physical boosters. Just as in OU steel is a very handy typing. Taking care of dragons and other physical types that would otherwise be annoying to take down. He also walls flying moves like those from swellow that hitmontop fears. While placing up rocks to wear down foes with wings. I usually use him as a suicide to take down as much as I can.

hitmontop.png

Hitmontop @ Muscle Band
Nature:Adamant
Ability: Technician
Evs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe
Moveset:
Fake Out- Priority and Free Hit
Mach Punch- Stab Priority
Sucker Punch- Priority and Coverage
Close Combat- Stab with UMPH

He was the first pokemon I chose for this team. As a big fan for a long time I wanted to see what this guy could do besides spin. And to be honest he truly impressed me. Closest thing to a UU scizor. With a priority moves this thing is a monster. Chose muscle band over life orb to spin a little bit longer. Kills almost any already weakened foe. Which most foes are weakened by the time I bring Top out. Anything he can't handle hopefully the team can take down. The team compliments him well with protection from his most obvious counters. While he can take down what ever else.

uxie.png

Uxie @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Moveset:
Shadow Ball or Thunderbolt-? Not sure what move would best compliment
Calm Mind- to stat up
Rest- To Rest Off status and regain Health
Sleep Talk- Workaholic, to work while sleeping

Uxie with his great bulk makes a best rest sleep talker. Absorbing status while stating up to a decent attack. Covers the team weaknesses well while absorbing status and being a good wall without the boosts. I got the idea from crocune. With relatively the same defenses Uxie has just lower special attack. Which I am willing to do as Uxie can rest off any damage. While being able to stat up to an almost respectable special attack. The only problem I have is with the last move set. Being walled by normal types in the UU is a problem, however shadow ball is useful in many instances such as against slobro's as they can't hurt me and often toxic me as I stat up to rest later. So a suggestions on the last moveset would be appreciated.

Well that is the Team. And the pictures I got from Arkeis.com. The EVs are almost all from Smogon as I lack any knowledge of the UU benchmarks so suggestions on those would be appreciated. IF I missed anything just tell me and I will fix it or add it.

First off go with Life Orb> Macho Brace on Hitmontop.
I don't understand your Uxie, I recommend a Nasty Plot Toxicroak in it's place.

Modest @ Life Orb
252 Sp Atk 252 Speed 6 HP
~Hidden Power
~Vacuum Wave
~Shadow Ball
~Nasty Plot

I feel this is a good replacement first off since Uxie wasnt really fufilling any purpose. However, keeping with your pattern of pokes that set up, a great special sweeper like Toxicroak can really allow you to open up major holes in your opponent's team

Ok, interesting Uxie, sucks that you're walled by the two common special walls in UU, aka Chansey and Clefable. Yeah, if you get where I'm going, Uxie is useless doing what you have it currently doing. Its just set-up bait and death fodder at the moment.

The thing I noticed quickly was your weakness to things like Azumarill and Blaziken. Blaziken you can sort of deal with through Arcanine and Mismagius, but Azumarill will just constantly come in, spam Waterfalls, switch out, and repeat until most of your team is already dead. The quickest fix is to replace Uxie with something like Milotic. Good bulk on both ends allows it to take on both Azumarill with HP Grass and Blaziken with Surf. If you want a status absorber as well, you can run Rest and Sleep Talk, though I advise against it because just like Uxie, Milotic can turn into set-up bait for something like Mismagius. The Marvel Scale boost isn't enough to justify RestTalk to me. I'd just run Surf / HP Grass / Ice Beam / Recover for the best coverage, with an EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Sp.Def. Simple enough.

Good luck.

Twist of fate I will definatly try out ur suggestion. However I am wondering how you feel about crocune is he not just theoritcal set up bait just like uxie.

I don't think a status absorber is necessary with Rest Talk Uxie when you have Steelix to take Toxic and Thunder Wave. You can also try out Insomnia Honchkrow over Absol for more initial power and the potential for mixed sets. If you want to try out Honchkrow I think this set will fit very well on your team:

Honchkrow (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Insomnia
EVs: 252 Atk/128 Def/96 Spd/32 SAtk
Naughty nature
- Drill Peck
- Heat Wave
- Superpower
- Sucker Punch

This gives a bit more of an offensive approach to the team using the concept of lures to take down the opponent's walls and allow another sweeper to take advantage of the opposing team. Drill Peck and Sucker Punch are solid STAB moves. The magic of the set come with the EVs and Heat Wave / Superpower. With the given EVs, Honchkrow has the ability to KO Registeel with Heaet Wave followed by a Superpower. Superpower can also KO Chansey. Steelix also likes to switch in on Honchkrow, expecting mostly physical moves. Heat Wave always 2HKOs Steelix, doing an average of 77% to the Steelix you're using (probably the most common one). The reason I suggest this Honchkrow over Absol is Insomnia and the luring in of these walls. With Registeel and Steelix gone, your Mismagius suddenly becomes a lot more dangerous, who is walled hard by both steels. Drill Peck can also help a lot with fighters, especially Hariyama, who can take hits all day from your attackers and Whirlwind out Mismagius. The speed EVs are meant to outspeed Milotic, one of the faster walls, Special Attack to always 2HKO Steelix with Heat Wave (using the spread you use, probably the most common one), max attack, and the rest in defense to take Ice Shards and Iron Heads / Gyro Balls better (the base 100 HP goes a long way).

Life Orb is definitely better over Muscle Band on Top. You'll be amazed at the power it holds. Fake Out + Mach Punch takes out so many frail sweepers.

Seconding the Milotic suggestion. It can also take on DD Feraligatr, Kabutops, and plenty of other physical attackers. You can also bump up the speed to 212 (56 EVs) and take it out of HP. 212 is meant for Rock Polish Torterra, who you can outspeed and Ice Beam before it takes out Milotic or sets up.

Everything else seems fine. Good luck! Keep the pressure on Yanmega to prevent it from ruining your team and you should be fine!

Reverb: I will change Tops item; however i don't think another sweeper is nessacary for the team.
Twist of Fate and Peachfuzz: Thank You I will defnately try out milotic. Although it is useful I can see it as set up bait.
PeachFuzz: I will tryout honchrow or tryout a mixed Absol because although honchrow is better I like absol alot and to me the game has gotta include pokemon you like too. However if honchrow is signifigantly better it will be changed.

Did 20 Battles with the team with all the changes and the original team on Shoddy
Team with suggested changes 15-5
Original team 18-2

Slowbro: if it comes in on Arcanine's Toxic it will be easy enough to handle. Most Slowbro will be taken care of by CM Mismagius. If you're facing a CM Slowbro, Mismagius can CM alongside of it while hitting it back harder with STAB Shadow Balls. With normal defensive ones, Milotic can stall it all day and wear it down with HP Grasses. Or if anything just Explode on it with Steelix (takes like 60%-70% off with Surf in my experience).

If you want to keep Absol it learns Fire Blast just so you know! I've never tried it myself, and I was just using my experience with Honchkrow for the suggestion. Honchkrow seems a bit better due to the slightly better overall defenses, Insomnia, and STAB Flying. Plus Spikes are just as common in UU as Stealth Rock. By all means, go ahead and try out Fire Blast on Absol. No one else uses it. Perhaps you'll start something!
