Team Ermmm... IDK

After doing allright in OU i got bored and went to UU. The game had changed so much since i last played so I decided to return to OU with a brand new team. I was interested by Draco Meteor on Jirachi with the event. People in the lobby chat told me I was useless, I beg to differ.

Team Building process:

I wanted to use Jirachi's new little toy, Draco Meteor. I was also hit by the idea of serene grace + charge beam.

My Jirachi set was weak to steels, so here is one of the best steel killers in the OU game.

Two steels leaves me very vulnerable to fire moves and I also needed a Stealth Rocker. Why not use my favourite Pokemon, Swampert!

My two steels still had a ground weakness to cover and I wanted to resist Swampy's 4x grass weakness. In came Gengar.

I like to keep hazards off the field so I decided to bring in a Spinner, Cruel also puts down TS to help stop stallers and checks Infernape.

On previous teams, I had trouble with stat uppers, I decided to bring in a sturdy phazer, skarmory also sets down Spikes.

With a sugestion I have swapped Gengar out for a Scarf Rotom-H.

One by One:

070418jirachi.jpg

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Charge Beam
- Draco Meteor
- HP Ground
- Substitute

I really like SubCharge and I thought "Why not combine with Serene Grace?" HP Ground replaced Psychic and Hurts Steels, the only things resisting Dragon, and Heatran is my most common counter here, and is better than Flash Cannon. Draco Meteor is my most powerful attack and is good for quick KOes and Using before switching if I'm behind a sub when a counter comes in. I decided this works best in the lead position so I can sub while they SR. This has been performing awesomely despite the fact that people told me it would fail.

462.png

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Explosion
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]

My revenge killer and steel killer. Steel give Jirachi alot of trouble and this will kill them. I have used Magnezone before and getting outsped was frustrating so I chucked in a choice scarf. TBolt is good STAB, Flash Cannon is what Smogon recomended but I might switch it. HP Fire is for killing steels. Explosion makes me go out with a bang, helps alot against Snorlax.

swampert.png

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/216 Def/52 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Ahhhhhh, my favourite Pokémon. This thing works wonders. Sets up SR as (usually) Fire types such as Heatran switch out. Veyr useful being able to fire off from both attacking spectrums. Ice beam is less useful now that Salamence is gone but a solid Poke all the same. Roar provides crucial Phazing that stops stat uppers.

Heat%20Rotom.png

Rotom-H (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Trick

A Scarf Rotom-H provides another Ground resist and makes a goo anti-staller and revenge killer. TBolt and Shadow ball provide reliable STAB. Overheat means I can kill troublesome Steels and Grass types. Trick destroys walls and stall teams.

73tentacruel.png

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/120 Def/136 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Surf
- Rapid Spin
- Hidden Power [Electric]

My spinner, TSer and ape counter. I want to swap this out, it doesnt do much other than check ape! If I do replace it it's replacement must check Infernape (all forms). Surf is a good STAB move that can finnish things and score 2/3HKOs. HP Electric kills Gyarados in 2 hits after SR.

skarmory.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP/64 Atk/176 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

An exceptionally useful wall and mainly phazer. Pert can take anything Electric or Fire thrown at it so This thing often holds on until the bitter end. Brave Bird causes a surprisingly large amount of KOs. Roost heals. Spikes and WW sre self explanetory.

Right now I feel i really need a grass move to kill Swamperts and having 3 Steels and 2 Waters might be a bit much. Right now IDK what to change out but help would be appreaciated, I mean, right now I'm at 137 views and 0 posts. BTW when counting wins/losses it was 5 wins 3 losses.

Thanks for reading my RMT and feel free to give advice and if you come up with a name for this team don't be scared to tell me. Thanks.

Alright, let's start here, choose either DM or subcharge on jirachi, the Draco metoeors -2 spatk loss makes a subcharge set stupid with it. Also, psychic is a bad coverage attack, sure it is STAB, but bad coverage. Maybe run HP fire over psychic if you keep DM which may let you switch out magnezone as steels won't be as big of a pain
.

I'm not actually looking to change Jitachi ATM because it is performing excelently. Sub-Charge is great and Draco meteor is mainly used if I have a sub up and are about to switch but dont want to waste my sub. The main problem I have is actually Heatran so I'll try playing with HP Ground because only Bronzong will change anything. (SE charge beam makes skarm set up fodder)
Draco Meteor works great because I often set up about +3 with Charge Beam and then Draco Meteor anything but a Steel before continueing my sweep.

EDITS:
Psychic to HP Ground

Thanks

How do you kill offensive zapdos with HP grass? All your team can be swept by it. I suggest switching gengar with rotom-H. That way you maintain your ground immunity, gain a more reliable spin blocker and can still take care of grass types with overheat. I suggest the choice scarf set with trick to cripple opponent's walls and stat uppers.

That's all I can do for you.

Alright, I don't have time for a full rate but just by looking at your team building part, here is what I noticed. You say you want Gengar as a grass resistance, but Gengar should never be used to "resist" anything, bar -POSSIBLY- the Pain Split set. Its purpose is really as a glass cannon- to hit with mass damage and speed but can only take a hit or two before it shatters. Now, Skarmory resists grass TWICE as well as gengar, and also resists ground- not to mention its amazing defense. I have no problem with you having a Gengar, but your strategy with it is off since you'll probably come in to a grass attack, lose a bunch of your health anyways, and Explode. The next thing I noticed was that your team has 3 ground weakness and 3 Fire weaknesses- make that 4 ground weaknesses if they catch Skarmory after Roost. Basically what this means is get rid of unneccessary steel type...I hate saying to get rid of a pokemon on the team but there is no other option since fire/ground moves are some of the most common ones around. I would say swap Jirachi for this anti-lead Dragonite set:
Dragonite @ Life Orb
Quiet
252 Attk/252 Sp Atk/4 Spe
~ Draco Meteor
~ Fire Blast
~ ExtremeSpeed
~ Earthquake

By doing this, you resist every type twice and you have another 1/4 resistance to grass attacks, and can screw over some of the most common leads in the game. But the biggest question I have for you is this: What is your goal for the team? I think your title answers that question. You have 3 pokemon on your team getting out entry hazards, but you have no pokemon taking real advantage of them. What are the hazards leading up to? Just stuff to consider.

Hi waffles,

On Swampert, try out Roar instead of Surf. Surf is mainly to hit Pokemon that normally wall Swampert, such as Skarmory, but you have Magnezone to take it out anyway. Roar will let you force opponents out and rack up more entry hazard damage, while allowing you to scout their team.

You seem to be using Gengar as your spinblocker. While Gengar is good at maintaining offensive momentum, it's not the best choice to block Rapid Spin because of it's frailty.

Rotom-H could be used in its place:

499.png

Rotom-H (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Trick

Using a Choice Scarf can let you revenge kill threats like Gyarados and Lucario, and Trick is used to force a Choice Scarf onto walls like Blissey.

If you make this change, you could also switch Magnezone to the standard Steel killer set with HP Grass to take care of Swampert, but Skarmory can also set up on it.

Good luck with your team!

Ok, I'll trial changing Gengar to Rotom because Gengar hasn't been easy to switch in and Roar will probably work better than Surf because Swampert doesnt hit that hard, especially with special moves. I will keep Magnezone as it is.
Thanks

In answer to click's rate, Let me try the current changes then I will see how it goes with the anti-lead DNite (I have used him before). Will edit this post when im done. I know it provides synergy and all but maybe rather than switching out Jirachi (who has been doing awesomely) maybe I can change a different team member. Thanks anyway.

Ok, I tried Dragonite and it worked quite well, killing the leads but they still got SR up and Dragonite was not very useful late game where as Jirachi isn't terribly useful lategame either but often kills more than one pokemon because it sets up a sweep on their lead and uses a unique and unexpected set. If you want to change something, Tentacruel hasn't been that good and you made a good point about noone really using TS. Thanks anyway click and feel free to rate again!
